Microsoft digitally signs its Windows updates

My system was infected by a virus after a Windows Update. I don't think Windows XP or other versions of Windows have a form any protection against viruses or malware that can integrate itself in the updates of the program so that they are downloaded or after what they have been downloaded. My system was infected with a virus as a result of a systematic update in the past. I firmly believe that Microsoft checks their updates on the Windows Update Server, but is it possible that Microsoft and check the integrity of the download of updates once the update has been downloaded completely to the user's system?

I call this look of Microsoft in the above suggestions because it will ensure that downloads are safe during the download process.

In Windows Vista and later, including Windows 7, updated using Windows Update which is what exactly is that you mention. When you update in Windows Vista or Windows 7, browser does not open site but Windows Update is a stand-alone application that runs the update. If you access the Windows Update Web site will be asked to open this application. Because the support is extended to Windows XP, no new functionality will change in update. However, you might consider upgrading to Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Update to will not hurt or damage the system, they have been tested but if your system suffered damage by Windows Update, you might do restore to save things under normal conditions. They infect you with the virus.

In addition, you said about Internet Explorer 6, it is very old and is not very safe. I suggest to download and install Internet Explorer 8, which is safer and more powerful. It is also available in Windows Update.

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows Vista Edition Home Premium 64bits. A trial version of office 2007 has been pre-installed, but I removed it. Because something was wrong with deleting automatically I followed the instructions of a Microsoft Office site to manually remove. Although I followed all the steps, I still think that Windows Update sniffs a bit of the program, cause he mind keeps me with the security patch. Anyone an idea how to get rid of it?

    Thank you!

You can 'hide' any updates, but be aware that doing this cannot 'hide' all the new Office updates.

How to hide updates in Vista: click on view available updates (or Select the updates installed). Right-click on the update you want to hide. Click hide update | Confirm the UAC (User Account Control) prompt, as appropriate.

To restore/show updates for Vista: Start | Control Panel | System maintenance and (if you use Classic view, skip this step) | Windows Update | Restore hidden updates: Find and select the update you want to install | Restoration of. You can now select once again it and install through the normal process.

TIP: to avoid the downloading/installation, updates that you do not want to configure the automatic updates option second or third parameter in the Edit settings window. See picture here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/windowsupdate/learn/windowsvista.mspx

  • Disabled the HTTPS option in Hotmail and problems with the Windows Firewall, Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows updates.

Original title: Windows Live Hotmail only opens a new window links e-mail composition!

I recently put my Windows Live Hotmail account to my default e-mail client in Internet Explorer 8 on my Windows XP SP3 System. Unfortunately, whenever I click on a link to e-mail on a Web page to open a new message, Hotmail tells me, "Sorry, there seems to be a problem with Hotmail right now", and a new/compose message window does not open. I disabled the HTTPS option in Hotmail, which fixed the problem. However, when I went to do a manual update of Windows, I am nailed with a Trojan horse! Apparently, the Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials have been affected by turning off HTTPS in Hotmail! It's 2012, and it's terribly disappointing that Microsoft only has not ironed out all the imperfections in these services now. If anyone can give me a solution (in simple terms), I would appreciate it!

    Thank you

If you have Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, McAfee, Norton, etc. installed, they have a conflict with Windows Defender, or turn it off.

Microsoft Security Essentials has its own integrated version of the defender and should automatically disable the version of Vista in Windows Defender.

    If it's not:

Turn Windows Defender on or off the information on the link above of Microsoft.

  • How to change the appearance of Windows Update

I have a laptop with Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 on it, and Windows Update looks like the "standard" method I also have a friend, his computer running SP1, but its Windows Update seems more "cooler", as in it has tabs allow you to separate important updats of other updates, and there is also a small bar of the preview to the right of the screen when you click on an update. I noticed that when I still had the SP1, it still seemed the same.

The 'cooler' look is due to the Windows Update Agent (WUAgent) v7.4.7600.266 being installed on your friend's computer, but not on your (yet).

You can wait patiently until the Automatic Updates installs the new WUAgent in silence and in the background, or you can install it manually. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946928

  • I think that Windows Update tries to install an update that I don't need me

Update of Windows on the computer, I'll put in place says that this important update is available:

KB2699988 - a security update Cumulative for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows Vista for x 64 systems.

When I try to install from Windows update I get this error:
«Some updates have not been installed - failed: 1 update.» Error (s) found: Code 8007371 C - Windows Update encountered an unknown error.
It then provides a link to "Get help with this error" which takes you to a page of results from help and Support Windows. No listed results mention a C 8007371 error, but one of them is "Resolve problems with installing updates" I click on that one.

The upper part of advertising Microsoft 'Fix - it' for "automatically diagnose and fix common problems with Windows Update. I have try this. The file runs and I select "detect problems and patch for me (recommended) - with a single click, we detect problems AND apply the patches on this machine" at the end of its run, the program informs me that "Troubleshooting is complete. He listed under 'Problems found', "components Windows Update must be repaired", followed by 'Fix the status - set' and a happy green check mark. For those interested, here are the details of the report:

    Windows Update
    Problems found-
Windows Update components need to be repaired - fixed
Fix the Windows Update components - successful
    Checked - questions
Update Windows by default data locations have changed - verified

    Problems found
Windows Update components need to be repaired - fixed
One or more componetes Windows Update is configured incorrectly

    Verified issues
Update Windows by default data locations have changed - verified
The location where Windows Update stores data has changed and needs to be repaired

I then press 'next' and indicate that I do not know if my problem is solved or not among the options "yes/no./i don't know." The window changes, and informs me that insofar as Windows Update will "no problems need attention" with another icon of happy green check mark. A good time to check if the patch can be installed again!

I try from Windows update - fails with an error C 8007371
Restart and try again - fails with an error C 8007371

So, I decide to try to download the file directly from microsoft and bypass the Windows Update mechanism

    Downloaded KB2699988 from Microsoft.
Tried to install it in the 'normal' windows desktop: come to the last part of the green bar and then I get:
"Some updates were not installed - the following updates don't have not been installed: security for Windows Update (KB2699988).

Tried again to install the SafeMode file. Had this error:
Setup Windows Update Standalone - Setup has encountered an error: 0x8007043c. This service cannot be started in Mode safe.

Went on the forums and then I tried these challenges listed as possible solutions to this problem:

1 ran the System File Checker scan according to the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936212. He returned a value of "Windows Resource Protection has not found any breach of integrity."
    2. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936212 (2nd half of the page) listed by using the System Restore tool to move to another point in time. I have all the old points system, restore, so this isn't an option for me.
    3. clean start up the PC and then ran Windows Update according to the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135: essentially the same as before. However, to stop all services, and then restart the Windows Update service, I tried, once again, to install the stand-alone Installer KB2699988 (file name of this file, for your benefit is .msu Windows6. 0 -KB2699988 - x 64). After the execution of this file, this message will appear: "Setup Windows Update Standalone - the update doesn't not apply to your system" OK is my only option here.

So now the leaves wondering if this necessary update is really necessary at all. Why Windows Update says that I need this file which is not even for my computer?

It is a specific consumer support forum. You will find support for Vista forums in these IT Pro-online http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/category/windowsvistaitpro

  • Lost audio on Satellite Pro A120-PSAC1E after downloading Windows updates

    Hello

I lost all sound on my laptop after downloading updates for Microsoft XP from the Windows Update site. I followed the instructions on solving the problems on my laptop and uninstalled Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio compatibility Driver.

I found afterwards kb 935448 XP update that is supposed to solve the audio problem, but this did not work. Now I want to reinstall the audio compatibility driver to see if it will work now, but I can't find anywhere to download.

Anyone know where I can find this driver?

    Thank you

    Hello

This issue has already been discussed here in the forum:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=21936

As you say that the MS difficulty 935448 helped.

You want to reinstall the audio driver and don t know where to find this driver?

I visited the European Toshiba driver page and found the driver of his right.
Simply choose your laptop download driver form. Satellite Pro-> Pro A120 PSAC1E-> Win XP

  • Windows Update did not find updates more. The progress of the download stays on 0%...

I guess that it is a result of http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=947821.

I will go back to a system save point and will try to exclude the update above.

So far I have no idea on the reason of detail.

Encluded are some of the last line of the windowsupdate.log.

I hope this helps to find a solution for this error.

    Thank you.

    Maritin.

    Hi MartinSanger,

You can download and install KB947821 system preparation tool and let us know the result.

If the previous step fails then that run the Windows update Troubleshooting If you use Windows 7

Open the Windows Update troubleshooting tool

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-Windows-Update-Troubleshooter

If you use Windows vista, and then run the Microsoft fixit tool that is available in the following Microsoft article to reset Windows Update components.

How to reset the Windows Update components?

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058

    I hope this helps!

  • My Windows Update does not run

Remember - this is a public forum so never post private information such as numbers of mail or telephone!

    Ideas:

whenever I click on Windows Update, it will not work. the icon appears in the lower right corner at run time, but when I click also which, it will not work. nothing happens and I need to install updates.

Do you get any error messages?  How long it has past?  An easy solution to try is the Microsoft FixIt for the Windows Update components.  This tool automatically attempts to solve the problems of Windows Update, which is available here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en-us.  Under the difficulty for me article, there is a button that you click called Microsoft Fix it.  Run this cmdlet and follow the instructions.  It will ask you if you want to run in aggressive mode.  I run first without the aggressive mode, and if this does not resolve your problem, run again by using aggressive mode.

Let us know how it goes for you.

Help! I get the error message 0 x 80190194 when I try to enable Windows Update in Windows XP Professional

Current solution: download IE8 for XP, run who, follow the Setup Wizard, wait for his failure. Download manually upgrade restart, recommended.

Restart the installation of IE8, wait that he remove previous IE. Reset.

Installation of IE8 restart to restart. Let it run. May need to restart.

Try to run windows update again. IF it works, woot, otherwise download the SP3 of XP service pack from Microsoft. As the Windows update fails, you must not download an installer, but an ISO standard. Burn the ISO to a CD and install (way to go...) or download a free tool like 7Zip and unpack iso and install a go from there.

From there on, the installation of SP3 and hope this works...

Windows Update died I tried many Solutions still dead

After the October update of microsoft updates no longer works, so I ran the ms fixit (who died) told me to run a tool that can help with this, and then he proceeded to offer me a useless CAB file: /.

I have tried unloading services, remove said files and restore the massive list of DLL files, add the URL of update to the zone of confidence, registering the dll has been authorized so says 2 dll is missing, another guide show was how to restore the registry settings to my BITS missing in services service , who ran and imported, but on reboot, there is no service their slot this intelligence service background (sound still missing)

After trying the windows fix - it microsoft update and fix - it, they are likely to fail by saying files are missing, ive done a SFC of my pro SP3 cd and it restored files, since then when I use my Start menu shortcut to access the "microsoft update", it is trying to load then takes me to a help page from microsoft on cannot open windows update here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2497281

It also proposes installing SP3 and offer another solve this problem, which also fails

Ive tried just about everything here is on blogs, forums, tech sites, and im quite versatile in use & repair windows but it left me speechless.

Ive tried a number of scanners of many independent removal tools online, had a nose with autoruns and everything seems ok, I however these 2 missing files, I don't remember their names but the 2 that are not I have similar named files, I think that one is c:\windows\system32\dllcache\wucltui.dll, ive read somewere in the past that someone took this file and it is for vista not xp (it is a clean install of xp on a freshly repartitiond drive)

MSE updates, says network error and when I click on help need me right on a useless page to download MSE (manually download the model of vir installs without any problem), but until microsoft provides a direct download app I think im not completely protected here

MSE will not be updated, the network failure or lack of the component or invalid registry settings (that is, it has no idea)

Windows update takes me to a MS help page

Service of missing bits in the services and the key file reg won't come back

even to force the windowsUpdateAgent to install only me got into windows update & then updates developed fails when I try to download, I need help with this and if possible a link to get the latest ESM before anything else goes wrong with my system, it own seams and could just be currupt settings now , but for how long im not sure...
