Microsoft XP on refurbished Lenovo IBM ThinkPad T60p

My pc freezes several times a day.  It often happens when you use Lotus WordPro and also browsing with IE8.  I've owned it just 3 months.  I have a virus last week and called McAfee.  They were able to remove it.  I was not affected by this problem before the virus.   I called McAfee again; They searched my pc and confirm that there are no viruses.  The only new sw before this problem was McAfee antivirus.  Any ideas?

  • How to replace the Ethernet adapter internal of an IBM ThinkPad T60p

Several IBM ThinkPad T60p. unfortunately I have a ThinkPad shows in the BIOS "(internal network) MAC address: 00 00 00 00 00 00' and sometimes ' 02 00 00 00 00 00". The Green LED next to the Ethernet connector is also dark if this laptop is powered (adapter attached) and a network cable is connected. That's why no Wake on LAN is possible. To my surprise, the network card works under Windows and there is also a MAC address. Wake on LAN is also possible in Windows.

Because all the BIOS settings and also the BIOS version are exactly the same on all the other ThinkPads IBM T60p I think there is a problem with my internal Ethernet card.

Anyone know if it is possible to replace this internal Ethernet card? I ask because I also have an IBM ThinkPad T60p, which is broken and that's why I intend to Exchange Ethernet adapters internal if possible.

I think that they are integrated on the MB, so it's not possible

  • Life expectancy of a 'new' refurbished Lenovo W520

    Hi all!

I recently bought a refurbished Lenovo W520, with a brand new SSD and the new ram as well. The model goes back to 2011 and it looks actually pretty new in this is the general appearance.

These are purchased by companies whose users, I guess, probably used less intensely and probably with more care than the average user.

My question is; How long should I wait for this machine to work? He's already got what I assume to be nearly half a decade on his back, and even if some essential (SSD and Ram) parts are brand new, I am always worried about the longevity of the rest of its internal components.

    Thanks in advance!

    -Philip

I only really worry the cooling problems. It always speaks by making a much traveled W520. According to the number of hours of use, the laptop has had and the conditions, it has been preserved in, thermal paste could be replaced on the GPU/CPU and the fans/vents might need suddenly out with compressed air to remove any buildup. It's all a work of $6 to do yourself (materials: thermal paste and compressed air, remove the keyboard and the keyboard setting, remove the pipes on GPU/CPU.)

I guess that you have received a new battery (obviously these age and there is no way the original spec is more) and the LCD shows no problem (Panel light darkens over time but always mine high with only a little pink cast near the corners - although to be fair, mine had a life shaken and fallen several times on hard surfaces of some long-distance).

In the past, on other thinkpads, only other points of failure were the bearings in cooling fan requiring a replacement fan assembly failure and graphics (sometimes of the cable charts overwork through the hinge.) I have one of these problems with the W520 still. The hinge is better designed than many previous thinkpads and the cooling is less active which will span the life of any pads of the fan. It is with the 2000M GPU (1000M models have other issues because both had different designs cooling.)

Currently I have an SSD mSATA Plextor (Win 7 Pro OS - put to test at SATA2 speeds) in slot mSATA near trackpad and a SSD Pro of Samsung 850 in the hard drive Bay (win 10 Pro OS - tested SATA3 sppeds.) The system works well. For awhile, I thought win 10 was never going to work right and I need to replace the W520 immediately but finally Nvidia fixed their optimus drivers and the laptop is really eye-catching win 10. (Technically the W520 is not listed by Lenovo, a sustained Win 10 portable if Microsoft said that he would retire.)

  • IBM Thinkpad Z60t help

Well, I reinstalled windows xp pro sp 2 on my grandfather's old ibm thinkpad models Z60t, because he gave it to me and I didn't need half of the stuff on the hard drive. So I reinstalled xp and I do not have driver disks or backup discs. I went on the Lenovo site and tried to download the drivers on my desktop and transfer them to my laptop. I reinstalled the wireless driver but it is not working properly. It won't let me connect to the internet. In addition, it doesn't let me put the computer on standby.

    Help, please.

Install update of the system from here:

    http://support.Lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-66956

Who should find most if not all of the drivers that you miss.

Then proceed to the dial-up connections to:

    Good luck.

  • IBM Thinkpad T30 RAM Flaw

    IBM Thinkpad T30

    Type: 2366

    Manufactor Date: July 2003

    OS: Windows XP Pro SP3

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 1.9 Ghz

    RAM: 512 MB

    HARD drive: Hitachi DK23FA-60

Graphics card: ATi Mobility 7500 w/16 MB RAM Radeom

I realize it's a very old laptop but it still works to this day and I use it every day.

I've been a bit online and I found that there is a design with the motherboard fault. More precisely the location of the hard drive and RAM above the other causes a lot of heat build-up to this place. IBM (now Lenovo) offered a repair or replacement of the laptop for a few years I know. My question is Lenovo continues to do this or not? I got this laptop a month ago and a half, so I have not long. Unfortunately I have no money to even pay for the repair and even less to ship for repair. Is there something I can look at?

    Welcome to the forum!

It's been years since the replacement program of the Board of Directors on T30 units had ended.

Your best bet is to install a single 1 GB DIMM in the 'healthy' location and use the machine like this if one of the RAM slots failed.

    Good luck.

  • IBM ThinkPad T42 would not connect to my home network secure wireless

Configuration IP of Windows __An internal error has occurred: a device attached to the system is not functioning. __Please contact support services technical microsoft for more help.

Others have had a similar problem, but I tried the solutions that have worked for them, without success.

All of a sudden, my IBM ThinkPad T42 wouldn't connect to my home network (WPA2-PSK) secure wireless.  It would be either (1) stay in a constant state of "acquiring network address" or (2) do not recognize networks wireless in the range.  Sometimes, it would connect to a nearby unsecured network, but the network would still not appear in the list of available wireless networks.  So I tried to connect directly to the ethernet, which also did not work.  I then ran the ipconfig/all command at the command prompt and got the message:

    Windows IP configuration
An internal error has occurred: a device attached to the system is not functioning.
Contact support services technical microsoft for more help.
Additional information: unknown media status code.

So, I went to Microsoft Product Support Services, which does not seem to offer all the solutions.  I searched this error online and found several similar problems - some users had problems with viruses.  Some users had winsock2 corruption, and some recommended to reinstall the drivers for my network cards.  I'm computer literate, but not a computer Wizard, so I was able to follow their instructions for checking the winsock2 corruption (I think), and I think it's very good.  I did a complete scan of symantec, but who came with nothing.  I downloaded the drivers for my network cards which are: Wireless - 11 a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter, ethernet - connection of a Mobile Intel (r) PRO/1000 MT and was able to update my wireless driver, but not the driver ethernet.  The latter Assistant said we "could not find a better match for your hardware than the software currently installed".  I had wireless internet to work for a few hours last night, even if I still have the same error message when I run ipconfig/all.  I started my computer this morning, and the same problem again - constantly says "address of network acquisition" even if no wireless networks are appearing on the list.  Also, I tried the system restore to see if I could go back before the problem started, but after that I tried several dates, System Restore has still not successful - it wouldn't work again.

So now, I have my computer in safe mode, and it is connected to the wireless internet, even if the ipconfig/all command still gives the same message, and I am running symantec again to see if I can find something!

Please help me!  If you think that I may have missed something with the winsock2 or installing drivers, or if there is something I could not find on the internet, please let me know!  I'll try anything.

Note: I have Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3.
Network card drivers, I'm running are:
    Wireless: Date - 02/05/2007, Version 4.1.2.156, provider - Atheros
    Ethernet: Date - 24/10/2006, Version 8.7.9.0, provider - Intel

    Thank you!

Update: when I disable the Intel PRO/1000 MT driver, I can run ipconfig/all with success.  Then imagine it's something to do with this adapter or the driver.  Any ideas?

OK, so here is what I did to solve this problem.

I've updated to the latest version of the IBM BIOS

Then get the WLAN driver from the manufacturer, NOT IBM, NOT Windows Update. Depending on your card, it will be Cisco or Intel.

I can not stress enough that updates to IBM and Windows update does not work and I lost a lot of time. However, once downloaded directly from the manufacturer (new version) worked flawlessly!

  • Why the recent updates to Windows are close my IBM ThinkPad without warning? Help, please!

Since I installed the latest Windows updates on my IBM ThinkPad (belongs to the office, one for me), the computers have decided to stop randomly without warning and without closing programs.  It happened first in the portable desktop computer and I tried a system restore, but it wouldn't.  Today, I installed on my computer but after I did a system restore.  I'll try that, but I guess that this will not help.  What can I do to get this to stop happening?   Is anyway to switch to Microsoft and tell them what is happening and have them repaired?

OK, removing the updates does not solve my problem, so reinstalled. I solved the breaks down by turning the bottom of my screen Hardware Acceleration 1 notch. Always try to understand the underlying cause.

    spike88,
If it's a brand mouse, you may need to consult the manufacturer for all drivers that may be required.  If it's a USB mouse then try another port.  You can also update Windows, and then test the mouse.  Mike - Engineer Support Microsoft Answers

  • IBM ThinkPad T43: Rescue and Recovery question

    Hello

I have an IBM ThinkPad T43. The Rescue and Recovery program opens whenever I turn on my laptop after a failed attempt to restore my laptop to factory settings. I cannot even connect on Windows, because the Rescue and Recovery program opens upwards immediately after I turned on the power. I tried to restore my system to factory settings using the program and the product recovery disc I bought at Lenovo, in the hope of resolving the issue, but every time I'm prompt "IBM could not restore your system.

How can I stop Rescue and Recovery of the opening and resume with normal startup in Windows? What should I do so that I am able to restore my laptop to factory settings?

Please help if you have any suggestions. I appreciate it greatly! Thank you!

  • Optical drive for IBM Thinkpad R50e, type 1834.

Have been looking for a DVD RW for an IBM Thinkpad R50e drive, type 1834. This has proved to be not easy.

The support page from Lenovo for DVD options for "hard disk, CD-ROM and the options of DVD - ThinkPad R50, R50e, R50p, R51, R51e", located at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-53136, States 'Note: not supported with the ThinkPad R50e systems.» And my model, 1834, is indeed not listed as supported in the "optical drive options.

Why, when I specify the model and the type I have, so a lot of readers not supported those listed and not supported? I'm not interested in optical drives that does not fit. I would like to know who does.

I do not have the old original disk so I can't check the number of parties on the matter. So, what number of coins is the DVD RW drive has that fits the IBM Thinkpad R50e, type 1834?
