Migrate Windows XP to Windows 7 with old C: drive with new C: drive

Help is requested for the following migration.

Current configuration:

  • C: drive 34 GB PATA HDD<-- old="" hdd="" (with="" windows="" xp="">
  • D: CD/DVD disk drive
  • E: drive 425 GB (data) (1 of 2) partition on 500 GB SATA HDD
  • F: drive 40 GB (vacuum, bootable) partition (2 of 2) on 500 GB SATA HDD

The target configuration:

  • C: disk 500 GB (bootable) partition (1 on 1) on 500 GB SATA HDD<-- new="" hdd="" (with="" windows="" 7="">
  • D: CD/DVD disk drive
  • E: drive 500 GB (data) (1 of 1) partition on 500 GB SATA HDD

Process of :

  1. Current configuration running on Windows XP, clone Windows XP for drive F:
  2. Remove and uninstall PATA HDD (old drive c :))
  3. Install Windows 7 Upgrade (clean install) on Windows XP on drive F:
  4. Install a new HDD SATA (new drive c :))
  5. (Now have the target hardware running Windows 7.)
  6. Clone Windows 7 drive C: to F: drive
  7. Remove partition 2 (drive F :) to create the partition (drive E :) of 465 GB (data)
  8. (I've already migrated a disk HARD SATA 2 x 500 GB Windows XP system to Windows 7, so I am familiar with the necessary details of process level below).

Issues related to the:

  1. This process works?
  2. Maybe the step 2 of the process should follow step 3?
  3. If this process is going to work, it is recommended to perform all actions of clone?
  4. If this process doesn't work, what is the recommended procedure?

Thanks for the help and support!

Sincerely,

Stripeman

Windows 7 license is a commercial license complete? If this isn't the case, you can transfer it to the new office. OEM licenses have no transfer rights.

If it is not possible, how can I transfer content and data from old office new office with only a single copy of Windows 7?

If it is a retail license. First, install Windows 7 on the new desktop, remain offline, do not enable.

Use Windows Easy Transfer to save your data and restore it:

Now I want to upgrade to Windows 7 and contestually get a new SSD Samsung 840 rather original EVO... What is the correct procedure?

    Thank you

    Hello

Thanks for posting in the Forum from HP Support.

There is no procedure to upgrade from XP to Win 7, it would be clean installation.

    1. place the SSD drive in the machine instead of the HARD disk

    2. start the installation of Win 7 disc to install Win 7 (best x 64 edition)

3 install the drivers of the machine, you can download from >here<

Windows 7 is optimized to work with SSD, there will be no problem.

If you have important data on your old HDD, you can either save it before (on external support, USB key, Cloud solution, etc.)  or after it (via a USB cable plugged into the laptop as external drive). This is also an option to transfer data.

Please, let me know if you have any other questions. Happy holidays!

  • Recovery of Windows 7 with new HARD drive

    Hello Forum

If you guys helped me with the HARD 'bankrupt' drive - and I have a new drive HARD ready to install.
But I need to back up the operating system (Windows 7).

I don't have an external hard drive PC configured.
I have the DVD. I have a memory stick (empty - but unknown to memory capacity).
There is little data to be transferred (and to be honest - if it was over it would not be the end of the world).

So I just need to back up the operating system.
I went in the 'create a back-up' then 'create a system image '.
But (and I may be wrong here) it seems that if she needs a greater memory than the DVD I inserted.

    The indices here folks?

And - waaaay out of my comfort zone. So any help is appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Helpless dad.

    > I went in the 'create a back-up' then 'create a system image '.
This has nothing to do with the picture Toshiba Recovery and recovery disc. There is option of Windows.

If I have the right of you you want to create DVDs that you can use to clean the OS recovery installation of recovery. How it can be done is described in the document s user manuals.

Anyway, recovery media can be created using preinstalled Toshiba Recovery disk creator tool.

    Check it out please
By the way: has your laptop at the moment factory settings?

  • No DVD in OS Windows 8 with new HP Pav G6

Just taken delivery on my new laptop. There is no Windows 8 DVD with it. What happens if I need to reinstall the OS 3 or 4 years later, for example, in the case of hard disk failure?

    Hello

    You are welcome.

You can create 1 set of recovery disks (it comes to comply with the terms of the Microsoft oem license), it is always possible to order a set of replacement of HP discs if you lose the.

However, my personal suggestion would simply create a copy of the defined recovery disk.

You can use the following method.

Download and install the free software ImgBurn.    ( Note: you can deselect additional software during installation of ImgBurn options).

    Then for each disk:

Create a disc Image of the DVD on your PC - a guide for doing this is here.

Write this disc to a blank DVD disc Image - a guide to it's here.

(You could also save a copy of each file ISO just to be absolutely sure).

    Kind regards

It's probably the issue of the media descriptor byte. Read here:

Format the same number of different disks on your machine and take
them and the 'old' you want to read to a computer running an old
version of Windows. Copy them into your newly formatted diskettes and bring
return to your computer, when they should be readable.

Also on the old machine to copy the disks in various media,

  • Installation of Windows 7 with new HD failure

    Background information:

Just bought a new WD 1 b HD for my laptop Latitude E6510. Has decided to install Windows 7 64 bit version at the same time.

    Problem:

I get about 3/4 the way through the installation and "Complete the Installation" (where system restarts normally several times)... the screen blinks several times, and then restart. Loading Windows comes up and then a mistake with this message, "installation of Windows could not configure Windows to run on a hardware on this computer." I click ok, the system reboots, I get a "Setup is starting Services", then the same error once again!

I try to come back just to recharge my 32-bit version of Windows 7 and I get the same error.

Aid or reflections on this issue, would be greatly appreciated.

Load the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver F6Flpy SATA driver during installation. You can get one from Dell drivers and downloads directly to your model or go directly to Intel:

  • Removal of the windows on an old boot drive folders

    Hello Microsoft forums,.

so I recently got an SSD and installed my copy of Windows on it. My old HDD is now high school and still has my old Windows, such as Program Files, Program Files (x 86) folders, users, Windows, etc. I would like to remove this to clean the drive a little (I'm a little OCD on the Organization of the files), but I still have a lot of data in separate folders, so I can't just do a reformat from there. Whenever I try to delete it, I get the message 'you must. authorized to perform this action You need permission from TrustedInstaller to make changes to this file", I guess, because he had an installation of Windows and, therefore, a user admin separately on this drive. There is no option to give me permission and I can't seem to change the permissions in the properties without worrying. Any ideas? There is not enough room on my SSD to copy on all my data and then reformat or I could do this.
    Thank you
    Azdur

Well, if you insist all is supported, take ownership of files and delete

Or preferably to copy your data, files, outdoors, and then in disk management to delete all partitions on that drive, then partition/format

  • HP Envy 17, Win 7 64 bit - how to re - install windows when the old hard drive failed?

The laptop won't boot and drive fails Diagnostics to market. Restore does not work and take the hard drive on the laptop & connection on my desktop I can not access the recovery partition. The laptop is out of warranty.

I have a replacement drive, but as I have no install disc and cannot access the recovery partition how can I reinstall the Windows OEM 7 new hard disk?

    Any help would be appreciated.

If the full 25-character windows activation key is visible on the Microsoft Windows COA on your laptop, you can download an identical iso file from here and install Windows.

Download the drivers from the HP support for your laptop computer portal. Put them on a flashdisk usb (USB key) for ease of installation.

Use the Microsoft Windows 7 USD\DVD download tool and a 4 GB usb (thumbdrive) flashdisk for the fastest and most reliable Windows installation medium.

The value in this way you can have your laptop in a usable state while you wait for your ordered recovery disk.

  • Using Time Machine or the Migration Assistant to transfer information from and old Mac to a new one

I had to think about upgrading a Macbook Air to a Macbook Pro and have done research on how pretty much everything (files, account icloud, etc.) to move to a new computer so I know how to do it when the time comes. I didn't save my current computer at the time I got it and didn't know whether it was necessary to do it before the transfer. Also, I found two different ways to move information from one mac to another, one way being using the migration wizard, the other via the time machine. The problem is that I've never used time machine (I checked my settings and it is turned off). I was curious to know which option would be the 'best' way and if not never back up my computer would be a problem. (If its possible, could someone also please explain how to back up my computer?)

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward I hope to get a reply soon!

I use Time Machine often (and have used since its introduction).  I also upgraded my Mac hardware quite often (about every 18 months).  Whenever I move to a new machine, I use the Migration Wizard (and not Time Machine).  I've never had a problem.

Then I suggest that you need not Time machine specifically in order to change computers.  However, you really need to keep backups simply because the material is not, and without a backup, you are subject to lose everything you have on your computer.

The OEM of Windows 8.0/8.1 license is related to the motherboard and not the hard drive, so you can reuse the new hard disk provided his will in the same computer.

About the old drive you need not to worry about the formatting as the old disk can never be reused. If you want to be sure, you can physically break the old disk with a hammer before throwing.

  • How to migrate from windows 2003 to windows 2008 with all the work of GPO active directory, DNS, without problem?

    Hello...

I have a problem with windows 2003 to windows 2008 migration. I have try several round of flyway of google and youtube, but he is still fail.
    in the first,.
I have HP Proliant server with windows server 2003. So I restore the backup to a different server HP Proliant wih same hardware specification. I've been back up the System State and the drive C with NTBackup. After I restored on HP Proliant, that I want to migrate, the DNS server is timeout request and the client cannot join domain. I was surprised, because the backup and the material is the same, but it can work as well as the original server.
    in the second case,
I have windows server 2003 in HP Proliant server and it works well. I'm doing a replication on this server to another windows 2003 server in an another HP Proliant and works of good replication (another user can join the domain). After, I have installed windows server 2008 to another PC and make the replication of the duplication of windows 2003. And this success to replicate, but not on the DNS (DNS query time-out).
I have the despair to try migrating Windows 2003 and 2008 because he is still fail in DNS. Another way to migrate to Windows 2003 and 2008 with DNS, AD and GPO work?

  • With the help of Windows Easy Transfer - need to transfer the old HARD drive to new computer - old HDD attached as external drive for the new usb port of the computer - help

New computer installed Windows 7 and gave me an option to use Windows easy transfer to transfer files, data, programs, etc. from my old computer.  All I have from the old computer's hard drive; a lightning strike fried either food or his mother by car.  I have attached the hard as a disk to the new computer using the usb cable provided with the external hard drive case.  It is recognized as drive E: on the new computer.

Trying to follow the instructions given by the Windows Easy Transfer software.  Get the software/folder from the old hard drive (drive E), but trying to run the software that I can't seem to do anything on the old disk.  When asked what is the former or the new computer - I respond to old, but no new file is created for the transfer.  When I answer again, a new file is created on the new computer (rather than the old HDD) and then he transferred again to new.  I can't create a file of whatever it is I want to transfer from the old HDD.

I can't use an easy transfer cable because the old computer does not only the hard drive.  I can't connect to a network for the same reason.  I only have the hard that I can attach to the new computer.  But I can't get the new computer to process the old hard drive separately for transfer purposes.  The only other option I can think of is to attach the old HDD to another computer, and then try to run the software in this way, but I don't want just the stuff on the old hard drive a copy to the other computer.

Can anyone help?  Suggest how to get the old hard drive files, data, transferred etc. to the new computer.  What are the steps?

    Thank you.

Do yourself a favor, with the old drive connected externally, in the browser, simply copy the data files to the location of Documents of the PC win7. You can not copy programs, they need to be reinstalled from media origonal. You can copy all the downloaded files instalation

You may need to take possession of your old documents folders - see win help to find out how
