Migration advice

Hello, everyone.

I'm going to migrate from Aperture to Photos and need a little advice to make it as painless as possible.

I currently have a library referenced Aperture of about 190 GBs with the original stored on an external HARD drive files. This library will not fit on the SSD for my MBA. What will be the best course of action to be undertaken to obtain pictures in Photos and then transferred to iCloud.

Based on what I've read that I can say Photos to open the Aperture library, and that's all I really need to do so that he can import and start downloading the originals in iCloud. I'm not sure everything is trying photo copy only 190 GB storage internal, or can she leave the original files where they are on the external HARD drive, and upload them to iCloud there?

Any tips will be appreciated.

TIA,

Michael

NO.

1 - referenced pictures will not download to iCloud photo library - only managed photos

2 - photos supports referenced libraries but very badly and they are strongly deprecated - lack of ability to use with ICPL is a minor reason

3 - there is advice here - opening - and how many Photos handles content and metadata for iPhoto and Aperture - Apple Support

4 - your best bet will probably be to use the library on the EHD as a managed library - you should probably it consolidate before migating

    Hello

I have a 2 host ESX 3.0.2 running to help cluster and MSA1500 CF for storage with 5 VM. I'm planning to upgrade my existing hosts to ESXi 4.1 and migrate to a P2000 FC SAN storage. My current problem is that the MSA1500 does not seem to be compatible with ESXi 4.1 and the P2000 is not comptible with ESX 3.0.2.

How can I get my existing VM for the P2000? To incrementally update?

I am new to the forum and a Tech VM basis, any suggestions or help is appreciated!

I have two concerns: your virtual machines will run on a single host for a while and you want to install 4.1 on probably old material.

To the first point, you simply have to check a second time your backup and State of health of your hosts, just in case.

For the second point, I suggest you buying new servers as your 'old' should certainly reach their end of life soon. What is your hardware is in 4.1 compatibility list? But this decision depends on many factors, and indeed it is possible to keep your old machines.

    Good luck.

  • Need advice: how to migrate VM 5.0 to 5.5

    Existing installation

    Group A: 2 X 4.1 ESXi hosts, 3 X on vmfs datastore 3

    Group b: 4 X 5.0 ESXi hosts, 7 X on vmfs datastore 5

    Targeted Setup

-Set up 1 new vCenter 5.5 U1 (showing a new SQL)

-Added 2 new ESXi hosts for each cluster (total 4 new hosts)

    At the same time:

    1. I'm trying to improve all the hosts of ESXi to ver 5.5 & join in the new vCenter 5.5.

    2. After you have configured a new 5.5 U1 vCenter, we will the old 5.0 vCenter decomm.

    3. in addition, I would like to upgrade all storage data to vmfs 5 institutions.

    Question

As there are a production virtual machines running, is there a way to perform the migration with the least amount of downtime?

(All existing data storage will be presented to new ESXi hosts)

    Thanks in advance!

For step 2, running virtual machines will suffer if disconnect us hosts from the old to the new vCenter vCenter?

N ° as I said, the whole process involves no VM downtime. They are not affected and continue to operate normally.

For step 4, may be that VMS continue to run if vMotion between old esxi 4.1 welcomes new 5.5 Esxi hosts?

Yes, you can vMotion VMs between hosts 4.x and 5.x.

  • Advice on migration / upgrade

I have Windows 2000 with Fusion 2.0 on my mac. (no training camp).

You want to upgrade to fusion 3 to be able to run windows 7.

This could end being quite complex due to the fact that windows 2000

should be deleted. (How do I do that?)

Should I switch to fusion 3 first, (or fresh install merge) then try to

Remove windows 2000? (don't know how to do this).

I am told that I could just do the upgrade from windows 2000 to Windows 7, but that

Windows 7 will ask you the original Windows 2000 disk. (I'm good with it), but I don't know if

Fusion will work with it. Maybe, I have to buy windows 7 full and avoid the prospect of what does not?

You have any advice for me?

Fusion 3 uses a different serial number model then Fusion 2 done and it is not serious from the point of view installation from the .dmg you download if a fully functional full release.  When you go to buy Fusion 3, an upgrade you'll need for your serial number of Fusion 2 to get the discount. (If the upgrade discount is not always available) However to get a free serial number for 30 day trial and test drive before you buy!

  • Migration of data from the old platform to the new primary database, need advice.

I have physical standby facility and everything works now.

Next weekend, we will do the actual migration of the old platform to the new environment.

I have several issues of concern.

Migration will go to the primary database. I'll have to remove patterns and inside expdp dmp.

While I do all those, what data base waiting? should I disable it again apply?

What other concerns and precautions I need to take before I have to remove all data from primary school and do a migration?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello;

My main concern would be the FRA (assuming you use it).

By doing all that generates a ton of archives, you have to worry about the space on both sides.

I would consider increasing my FRA on both sides.

I would not disable the recovery, but I look very close and be willing to adjust my space as needed.

As long as you don't miss space you should be fine. I had once a backup log files more than 250, and it took about 15 minutes to catch up.

Have a little prepared scripts in advance if you can increase the space or delete archive applied and it should be fine.

I also opened at least two terminals on the primary and Standby. Everyone look at space and the other to execute all what you need to adjust the space.

The rest is common sense, first do the smaller drawing if you have an idea what to expect. Decaying etc. as much as possible.

    Best regards

    mseberg

I have a shell script called 'quickcheck.sh' (use a separate but .env file it will send information vital back)

With a little work, you can do this in something that makes it easy to keep an eye on things.

    #!/bin/bash
    ####################################################################
    #

    if [ "$1" ]
    then DBNAME=$1
    else
    echo "basename $0 : Syntax error : use . quickcheck "
    exit 1
    fi

    #
    # Set the Environmental variable for the instance
    #
    . /u01/app/oracle/dba_tool/env/${DBNAME}.env
    #
    #

How to convert pictures from iPhoto?  I need general info and advice.  I saw the help info but I am very nervous to take on this project, as my library is huge (95GB), organized in several events and albums.  My library is saved (Time Machine SimpleSave HD).  I am running OSX El Capitan 10.11.6 on iMac.

Have you seen this document?   Updated Photos for OS X - Apple iPhoto support

    https://support.Apple.com/en-GB/HT204655

Is your iPhoto Library Library on your system drive in the pictures folder? And you have a lot of free space on your system drive? The migration will need additional temporary storage.

Then drag the iPhoto library icon pictures open to create a new library of Photos of her.

Your albums appear unchanged in the Photos.  Events will appear as additional albums, because the pictures has no events.  See this link: How Photos handles content and metadata for iPhoto and Aperture - Apple Support

  • Migration process now broken

    Hello

I'm migrating a server running 10.8.5 to a new Mac running 10.11.6. It was very well - I took a Time Machine backup, it has migrated to the new Mac, download server, ran Monday, and everything has worked just like that.

Thursday, since server was updated to 5.2, after migration and download server and running it, he refuses now to update saying I need to run an earlier version of the server or OS X to do the migration. I have no way to get the version that was available for download on Monday but, not that I can see.

    Any advice?

Solved by Apple support - buy a Mac running 10.11 prior to version 10.11.6 and the App store will download an older version of the server. That can be copied in all and the migration done with this version.

    Phew.

  • Migration Eurdora to Thunderbird 3.61 hic

I downloaded Thunderbird 3.61 and am trying to migrate mail in of Euroda. When I try, I get the following msg:

    "The message sending failed.
Could not open the temporary file C:\Users\Eric\AppData\Local\Temp\nsemail-6.eml. Check your setting of "temporary directory". »

I erased all the attributes of all directors in this way. For some reason any Tbird does not always manage to recover the temp msg they send. Any help would be greatly appreciated

The problem at the moment is gone. I think that someone on this forum (that I use often and find very little claire) commented that Yahoo Mail is something of a burden to society and therefore not given much attention. After some advice that I indeed found a new Yahoo certificate installed in Eudora in the last days - he wasn't reliable natch - so I added it manually to the trust list and Eudora itself works fine now. I'm a happy camper.

  • Unable to transfer files of OutlookExp in Mac TB - WinXP OutExp to WinXP TB24.4 good migration; but Mac TB24.4 has no import options or profile replacemen

Moving to Thunderbird - I am trying to eliminate my use of WinXP and migrate fully to Mac OSX. I have successfully transferred my many files of dbx (total 3.65 GB of messages) from Outlook Express in TB24.4.0 (such as files with null, msf and sbd) when Outlook and XP TB reside on the same virtual XP (Parallels) from my Mac machine. When I try to fill TB in the side Mac OS10.8.5 with the files, I can't. Tools > import there is no option for Outlook files, just Apple & Eudora mail. Of in Mac TB, I am able to locate the location of the profile (Tools > Configuration Acct > local folders), but in the Finder, it seems not - is hidden. Therefore, neither of these approaches allow import of my emails or the replacement of the current records with my emails. In my first step, I was able to transfer the .wab file Mac address using import to tuberculosis. No luck since. Advice is appreciated.

I'm glad that you guessed it, to work, but just to clarify, to transfer the entire Thunderbird folder, rather than just the profile subfolder, is suggested because it makes useless edit profiles.ini.

Move from one OS to another way some preferences in the profile will not properly transfer as an attachment for the opening of applications, but the repair for this is to remove mimeTypes.rdf in the profile folder and let the TB to create a new empty version. The correct preferences will be set the first time you open attachments.

  • Migration assistant will consolidate iPhoto and photo libraries

I just bought an iMac "towards the end of 2015" to replace my iMac 2011. I'm a Mac (MacBook Pro and iMac) user since 2005 and I am aware of the installation of the Migration Wizard when you first install a new Mac. However, for some reason, I have an iphotos library and a library of photos. Can anyone tell if migration assistant will consolidate in a single library or I have to do (manually?) before migration?

Two follow-up questions (if you're still reading this...)

iMovie is now only opens on my iMac 2011 (part of the reason why I bought a new iMac). There are projects that must still be finalized that it contains. Speculation as to whether the data migration is likely to result in my getting access to these existing projects? Worst case scenario would be that everything that is corrupt iMovie on my current iMac is transferred to the new machine. My guess is that what stop imovie to open 2011 on the iMac is not related to the data that make up the project, so that when I migrate to the new machine, I go back to my projects. Can anyone confirm this?

Last question (base); What are the recommendations for what should be my time machine drive? I currently have 1 Tb internal, more an external of 2 to 3 TB of disk. With the new machine equipped with connectivity Thunderbolt that I will be in the market for a new external hard drive. because the new machine has 2 TB drive internal pot and am looking to get a disc hard thunderbolt of 3 - 4Tb, should I still 5-6 to time machine as backup (assuming I get nearby using all available space my on my internal and external drive)?

    Much appreciated for your advice.

    No, it won't merge.

Using both programs such as libraries have different content that needs merging? When Photos import iPhoto library, it creates hard links to files, not copy, so they do not all the disk space.

    I can't respond to the #2.

Your our backup drive should be two to three times the amount of data to back up.

  • The problem of migration of Time Machine. Help!

    Dear Group,

I have a situation that requires advice.

Try to restore my iPhoto library (119GB) backup Time Machine from an old macbook that crashed.

But my new macbook is only 150 GB, has no space and too costly to extend storage.

I tried to copy the library directly from the backup files, but that doesn't seem to work with some 50% missing/illegible photos.

I bought an external hard drive (1 TB) and I was wondering if anyone knows how can I move the iPhoto (119GB) library in the external hard drive?

Apple migration assistant only allows me to migrate on the new macbook that is too small to contain pictures.

I hope to migrate in the external hard drive and access my library of this player in the future.

All tips are very much appreciated!

  • I've migrated the FF settings to a new PC and no external link now opens

A few days I received my new PC and migrate all important data of the former using a special tool to W8. I also installed Thunderbird and FF anew and migrated their setting using the tools recommended here (FF + MozBackup Sync). And all of a sudden I lost the ability to open any external link in FF now regardless of the source (Thunderbird or any other piece of software). Now, I have to copy and paste the URL manually. It is not the best solution. Old PC OS: Vista Business, new PC operating system: W8.1. Thanks in advance.

Hi people, I got tired of manually entering the URL addresses and decided to go back a few steps. So I uninstalled about half of the programs installed (including FF and Thunderbird) and reinstalled them again. And now everything works as expected. It's a kind of magic for me. In any case thank you for your advice, even copy - paste.

  • Migration Assistant tips - model 2009 to 2016 New

I would like to use the Migration Wizard to move date of old new iMac, but was one could move "crud".  Any advice?

Old machine is 2009 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running 10.8.5.  It may be shocking slow (more than a minute to answer a click sometimes).  Concern that the hard drive may be out.  I used Migration Assistant to least an older eMac it before and quite possible an original iMac before that.  So there are many old things lurking there in.

I've already implemented the new machine slot a new name (some say bad idea).  However, new machine has been used for web and e-mail Web since he was pulled up.  So maybe I can go and rename?

I don't have a ton of time to move much more than the docs if I don't use MY that I don't have time to learn all the intricacies of what lies where.

Great dangers if I use MY or just hover over the docs and start over?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

You must use the Migration Wizard the first time you start your new Mac, after that it will create another user admin and that can cause you problems. Wipe the drive and start again are the simplest solution. Most of the "crud" is small files that not harm. To determine if one of your crud is harmful, please download and run EtreCheck. It is a diagnostic tool that is very useful for us to find problems. It will also give us additional specifications on your Mac. After his execution after the logfile here. It will never contain any personal information.

This screwy configuration is in response to my external LaCie recently dying (it's what I wa using machines - (this player been gave me, even though I know better than to buy whatever it is named lacie) I have everything backed up on bluray but I am aware of the precariousness of my set-up.) I have a bootable mavericks and a yosemite bootable on flash drives, but I'm very nervous about my situation as a whole.

    3. so I have a lot of options, not a lot of money and a lot of confusion about the best thing to do now... I need a sustained speed - once is not only fast open - more that I need disk space.

    I am considering:

purchasing some enterprise hdd on sale (5 x 500GB to 1Tb HDD) and putting them in externally in a safe raid for Time Machine connected to a                firewire 800 port, or I could purchase 2 large 3GBs ssd's and put them in raid1 in my spare optical bay for time machine and then transfer offsite at                regular intervals for storage ( I would transfer the other Time Machine option offsite as well).
that I will make a fusion with the 120GB and a new HDD for system and put it on the other external esata to take advantage of the 6 GBs. I am                wondering if the size of the HDD would make a significant difference in performance speed. I am also wondering if doing a clean install of yosemite                on a this new fusion drive and then migrating some info from the current system disk would be a good idea, or if a new download of El Capitan                would be best.
i also need to buy a USB3.0 PCIe card for a couple of peripherals - with each port  powered. - so that also opens up some speed possibilities.

This graphics card is quite recent and was meant to be compatible with my system - but I do not understand why it is distributed as is and it seems that there is no driver installed on one of the splits. I have not found much info and will contact the customer, but I wonder if anyone has seen this issue.

I think that the size of your existing disks is actually one of your bottlenecks, so I kinda disagree with your idea that you need speed, more space. Adobe apps like chunks of free space for the use of work records and caches. Your installation seems also too complicated.

Fast large capacity disks are pretty cheap these days. You can get a TB 6 for $200 Toshiba and put it in a good external enclosure. Also, you should be able to install a HDD 4 TB within a Mac Pro 2008, preferably WD Black or HGST. A good pen for a 4 biggest external to cost in the neighborhood of $75, OWC.

I don't would not invest in a bunch of young readers, whether they are readers "business" or not.
