Migration of Database 11 g no - ASM to ASM

Hi team,

I have an instance with an expectation of database and the primary instance has been converted to Non - ASM for ASM(File System).

Currently I have online redolog files and logs waiting in my primary instance and I need to recreate the log in ASM files.

I need to convert an instance ensures ASM too?

If not, can I I have my primary log files in the path of the DSO and keep log files from backup server that is?

Please advice.

Thank you

Mauricette.

No, you don't have to. You just need to add a parameter log_file_name_convert.

  • Migration of database 11g (11.2.0.1) to 12 c (12.1.0.2)

    Hello

I have two RAC environment of node on windows 2008 R2 with Oracle 11 g (11.2.0.1) 64. At the same time I built another environment of 12 c (12.1.0.2) software install only on windows 2012 64-bit using ASM. It is once again two-node RAC

I want to migrate the database 11g (size about 400GB) on the 12 c environment.

My preference is to use RMAN. Could you get it someone pls let me know what is the best way to perform this migration.

Note: I don't do this in the Test environment so no issue on time.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Concerning

    Hello

The minimum version required to upgrade to 12 c is 11.2.0.2.0

The version of your database is 11.2.0.1, so first you must upgrade to 11.2.0.2 or later and then update can be performed.

This requirement applies to the backup rman as well.

We do not have this restriction with datapump

You can also check for TTS, Golden gate methods.

  • Migration of database

I am migrating the database MySQL embedded to a standalone database. I understand, it is not supported for migration all in the DB to mySQL, SqlServer, but I'm getting a lot of pressure back to management on why this is the case.  After all, "a database is a database" and "why don't you just suck the datastructure of mySQL and recreate them in SQLServer?

Is the reason for this limitation of migration documented somewhere, or there at - there someone who can explain to a relatively high level, what the limits are here so I can relay this back to people interested here?

    Hi Brian

Yes, in theory it's just tables and data, but unfortunately

    + foreign keys

    + footage

    + stored procedures

all are not automatically processed by any tool (not even not mysql Oracle > migration tool oracle follows after that) and cannot be developed to be handled in a generic way, as you might think since we own our conception of the code table. Foglight is a great product with lots of independent parts using different technologies to use the database, so a migration by the function must be developed which makes it expensive to make and test.

We do not support the migration of a mysql embedded to external mysql, which should be the recommended approach IF the database instance must absolutely be managed externally.

  • Migrate the Database 9i (9.2.0.1.0) 11 GR 2

    Hello world

I want to migrate my database to version 9.2.0.1.0 to version 11 GR 2, using the import/export utility.

I have a diagram owned by the user 'X '. I don't want to influence the system tables, that's why I prefer to perform the import using this syntax.

    IMP System/system_pass@my_db file = d: \dump_file.dmp fromuser = touser = X X

Is there a risk if I complete export/import?

Please help me find if the actions I must perform before and after import (such as statistics, the NLS_LANG settings,...)

    Thanks in advance

If you use traditional export/import, pl see MOS Doc 227332.1

  • Want to migrate the database (4node RAC) size of 4 TB of 10.2.0.5 at 11.2.0.4 on the new servers where the new type servers Primary (4 nodes) and Eve (4 nodes).

Want to migrate the database (4node RAC) 4 TB size of 10.2.0.5(8 rompt = 4 prim/4 veille) to 11.2.0.4 on the new servers where the new type servers Primary (4 nodes) and Eve (4 nodes).  So with minimum downtime I have restore and recover again on 11.2.0.4 server must then clone that to create the day before.   Here, my question is can I take 0 backupp level before hand and restore on target (new) then primary at the time to leave the downtime take backup of level 1 of 10g and then retrieve it on 11g (new server) after successful recovery I'll perform clone to form eve of database on the new server. does this strategy work? If it works, can someone suggest me steps how can I need recover with backup after restoring the backup of level 0 on 11g. Like should I upgrade before you retrieve it with level 1 backup or I can update and then recover with the level 1 backup from the old server to the new server.

Here is former servers of RHEL 5 version and new servers are RHEL 6 release.

    1 backup L0

    2 restore L0

    3. L1 and ArchiveLogs database backup

    4. copy BackupPieces L1 and ArchiveLog BackupPieces on new server

5 CATALOGUE START WITH... to catalog the BackupPieces

    6. TOGETHER until lastavailable SNA / Archivelog + 1

7 RECOVER DATABASE (should automatically identify the L1s and to apply ArchiveLogs)

    8 STOP

    9 START UPGRADE

    10. run catupgrd.sql

You should also take care on the locations of the data file, dump, instance settings destinations, all link database from the database, connectivity application etc.

  • Migration vCenter database of the local instance to a remote server

    Hello

My vCenter database is installed on the local server with the vCenter server.  When installing without DSN was created because the local database.  Now, I need to create a dedicated server to host the database but can't find where, in the current installation, I would like to change to vCenter point to the new location.

    I read these KBs

KB.VMware.com/kb/7960893 - movement of the SQL Server to vCenter database
KB.VMware.com/kb/5850444 - migration vCenter Server on a different host machine
KB.VMware.com/kb/1003928 - troubleshooting the database data source used by the VirtualCenter Server

Problem is that (1) there is no DSN, (2) the registry key is not there either, and (3) I cannot find what to change in the vpxd.conf file

I am able to "migrate the database" and "can create a new dsn to point to the new location.

So, the question is where can I find the current configuration of the database\dsn.

    I hope that's clear

    Hi VMGenie,

The reason why it does not appear THAT DSN u is because your machine VC can be 64-bit and the vCenter uses 32-bit DSN settings.

Open the C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe folder for this exe... it should show u the DSN settings.

  • Migrate the Database 9i to 11 GR 2

    Hi all

I want to migrate our Database 9i to 11 GR 2 by using import/export.
    Is this process supported?

Before export 'someone said' I need to:

Export NLS_LANG to avoid the conversion of database error

    Export NLS_LANG = AMERICAN_AMERICA. UTF8

    Is this true?

    Thank you very much

If my nls_lang database is UTF8 and my GR 11, 2 target database is UTF8, should I still export nls_lang?

There are 3 players on export/import: the database source, the target database and the client where you export. All 3 should be the same to avoid undesirable results.

What is the right time to use export NLS_LANG? I guess if my db of the source is not the same nls_lang as my target DB.

You export NLS_LANG to the client before you run the export.

So I have my db target or export the nls_lang to my db from the source?

The source, but, as said, all 3 should be the same.

  • Migrate the database

    Hi all

Want to migrate and upgrade a database (size = 150G) Oracle 10.2.0.1 on RHEL 5 (32-Bit) for Oracle 11.2.0.3 on RHEL 5.6(64-Bit) on a new server.

The source and target are IBM servers.

Since a production system, downtime has therefore kept to a minimum of 3 hours. The network is slow with a line of 2 Mbps (shared).

    What should be the method?

    Hello

    RMAN converts the database command.

  • Migration of databases on different servers

    Hello

I have a task at hand in which I have to migrate 3 databases of its current server (HP-Unix) on a new server (HP-Unix) B

From now on, databases (Dev/QA and Prod) are running on 92060 and size is 350 GB database. I want to migrate to a new server and upgrade to 11g.

Could if it you please let me know the best way to approach this situation which will result in a minimal downtime.

    1. create a new 11 g OH and B target the database to the server. And to import/export. But given that the data are 350GB, this will be a good approach?
    2. create a new 11 g OH in a server source and upgrade the database. Move it to the server B target by creating a database of pending.
    3. is there another easy easy approach other than mentioned above?

    Please, share your ideas!

    Thank you!

But we have a strict process in which we are not supposed to install the files on the Server binary 9i target B

I would look at it differently. One server be your current production server should not allow new binaries (e.g. 11 g), being installed on this subject.

Server B can run 9i Eve and upgrade test 11g with no impact to production until you are comfortable with the migration steps and make a production migration.
Withdrawal of 9i after migration of the production would be easy - as long as you do not remove the wrong files. Even so come worse worse, you still have your intact production on server A database to fall back.

In addition, with your last proposed strategy, if things go wrong during the 9i - 11 g was updated on the server A, you do not have a backup. To actually do a full restore.

If things go wrong with the upgrade on server B, your rescue is to restart the server.

  • Migration of database restore save changes

    Hi all

We intend to migrate our database of production from one place to the other.
We are still in the planning stage, and I need a suggest to one of the possible scenarios, we have considered: -.

Suppose that on the DAY 1, we copy the database from the old location to the new location. And the old database is closed after the copy process is finished and the new database is in action.
Now the new database is turned on and all new transactions affect the new database.

Now on DAY 10, we find that there is XYZ problem and we want to go back to the old database. In this case, he must move all the "changes" from the most recent to the old database and raise him.
So my question is: is it possible to apply logs the reached for 10 days in the period of the most recent database to plu?

If my question is not clear to you, please ask...

Please suggest in both cases database upgrade and migration for the same version.

    Answer please...
    Thanks in advance...

    Saket BB

    a. Yes, you can use incremental backups. Remember that you should not change the DBID and DB_NAME.

    (b) you'd have to be sure that the application error does not bring harm to the database updates.

  • migration of databases of apex

    Hello members,
We intend to migrate a database of 2.2 and applications forms and reports solaris apex apex 8 to windows 2003. There are about 4-5 schemas in the database. The total size is about 40 GB... My plan is to set up the target with Oracle 10 g machine, install apex, export workspaces, applications, export (flow patterns and patterns of object data) of all source database diagrams, import into the target database, import files to the workspace, bind workspaces to imported schemas and finally import applications using the application builder then analyze tables, check all invalid objects and check the account object. Is - to move forward and go to work? Thanks in advance.
