Migration of the existing groups of port DVS vSwitch

Hey guys,.

I am looking for a good article, but so far I don't have if existing port a groups with std vSwitch ESXi can I migrate to a newly created DVS.
I saw VMs, Assistant network management, but it seems that I have to create all the groups before port.

Is this really the case? as I have 70 groups of ports and I don't want to do the job manually.

Any suggestion?

Thanks in advance

Evening,

This process can be script but yes destination port groups must be created first.   I suggest to use the Onyx project to get the commands in powershell to create groups of ports.  Personally, I have 700 groups of ports and I understand your pain.   Onyx will allow you the creation of a port group unique in powershell then all you need to change is the name and vlan id.   If you have the standard naming, you should be ok...

Let me know if you have any additional questions or I missed your question.

Thank you

    Hello world

Is it possible to add a PS6110 with the existing volumes and connections to an existing uninterrupted group iSCSI?

    Thank you!

    Sven

    Hello Sven,

No sorry.  There is no possibility of group "fusion".  In addition, discovery addresses are different for servers must be updated.

If you have enough space, you can migrate the data to a group.  I.e. through Storage vMotion from VMware, then reset the released members and add it to the group.

Any solution you are looking for will be based on the host.

  • Service Division of Hyperion - assign the existing group to the new group

    Hi all

In my planning application, I tried to create the new group "G3" through the sharing service and assigned existing groups ("G1", "G2") to the new group "G3". So that all existing group access will be transferred to the new group.

But when I logged with the user of the G3, I found has insufficient access forms data giving the message.
"You try to open the data form, but can not because all the required dimensions are not present." Possible causes may be that you do have at least one member of a required dimension, or the selection of members resulted in no Member present. Contact your administrator. "

I can able to connect and see the dataform with user group G1 and G2.

What that should I need to change in the settings to avoid this problem?

    Thanks in advance

When you add a G1, G2 to G3 provisioning of g1 and g2 doesn't apply to the g3. Instead, it's the other way around. G1 and G2 will have some G3 has commissioned.

  • Migration of the existing NTFS files in a virtual drive with ESX4i

I have an existing Windows Vista system with a SATA 1.5 TB filled with large files on an Intel quad-core box.

I would like to migrate this to an ESXi server on which I can run multiple virtual machines.

I bought a new 2 TB drive and a plan to install ESX4i on it.  I disconnects the 1.5 TB of disk during installation so I do not lose my existing files.

Question: What is the best way to transfer the contents of my NTFS partitions in a sufficiently large VMDK into a new virtual machine running?

A really slow method would be to use a SATA/USB adapter and copy the files on the USB bus virtualized virtual machine.

Is there a way I can build a 'temporary' virtual machine by editing the vmx virtual machine file so that I can map a virtual drive at/dev/disks/xxxxx of the hypervisor?  As soon as I knew I could map it, its trivial to have a virtual machine linux, mount the ntfs volume, and then transfer the files to a virtual machine second.

(I did play a little bit, and it seems that the biggest disk virtualized I could create in a virtual machine under ESX4i 250 GB.  No problem, since I can create a handful of small discs and then link them together using LVM, but it seemed weird and maybe a problem with my system.  Not sure if this has no effect on my question, but better ask guess.)

    Thank you very much

    Maximum virtual disk size:

Default ESXi sets the size of the block of VMFS 1 MB data store, which translates into a maximum. Size of 256 GB VMDK.

(see block a VMFS data store size limits for more details)

If you need larger virtual disks you just remove the data store created during installation and create a new one with the size of the desired block (Configuration-> storage). In your case it would be the block size of 8MB.

All the data on the data store will be lost. So make sure you do this right after the installation or you back up a VM already created!

  • Migration of the existing database of victory ACS 3.3 to device ACS 4.2.15

    Hi all

Can anyone suggest me how to migrate the db for windows 3.3 acs acs 4.2.15 device.

We replace the 3.3 victory device 4.2.15 as part of end of life. So we have the eap-tls/peap authentication.

It has huge files. So suggest me the steps to migrate the db to win 3.3 appl 4.2.15.

We need to upgrade to win 3.3 to win 4.0 for win 4.2 & then migrate to appl 4.2?

Or any other way to do it?

    Hello

You can take a backup copy of the database of the ACS unit. You can install ACS 3.3 in windows. Restore the backup.

Then you can proceed to 3.3.4 on Windows ACS. make a backup and save it to a different location.

Upgrade the windows of the CSA at 4.1.1.24. take a backup. Save it to a different location.

Then the windows of the CSA 4.2.0.124. resume a backup and save it to a different location.

Now re-images of the device of the ACS for ACS 4.2.0.124. Restore the backup of Windows ACS ACS ACS 4.2.0.124 unit now running.

Now you can upgrade the ACS unit to 4.2.1.15.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards

  • Add the new disk group to the existing group

    Hello world

I have a Dell T310 server with a PERC 6 controller. My current setup is:

    Disk 0-1 TB

    1-1 TB drive

Players above are mirrored and partitioned the drive C and D.

The first problem I have is the drive C: is 40GB (from the factory) and is running out of disk space.

I bought 2 2 TB drives and was hoping to install readers, their mirror and more 1 TB disks and use the disks of 2 TB as the new D: - I would image current data on D for new readers.

I have installed 2 new readers (2.0 TB), but when I go into the settings of the raid controller I am only able to assign spare readers?

Can someone please let me know what I am doing wrong?

I already have a full backup of the server.

    Thank you.

  • Group of port and the naming convention for vLAN

What is the naming convention better for groups of ports on vSwitches?  This naming convention should match how we name them VLAN on the physical switches and how important is that?

    Hi VMinator,

To answer your question, he has not agreed to 'standard' for names of portgroup.  That's all what you're comfortable with the support and what works for you and your organization.  A bit like server names; Some companies are going hardcore with the naming conventions and others their name after the characters in science fiction or world of warcraft bosses

Forensic science more you pack in a naming of the control standard more you have (i.e. for scripts, health check, etc. see below).  Also, if the name itself answers questions on his own and allows you to save a phone call that is priceless.  For example - the guys says unix... "Uh which network to choose for my new virtual machine.  My IP is blah blah blah. "Well, with right portgroup name, this question would have answered itself... and maybe even recorded some interruptions of service in other cases by the simple fact of being clear and effective in the communication of how this virtual device should work: purely expressed through an appropriate naming convention.

Here's another one.  My last concert, we had thousands of virtual machines that had to move data centers and when they landed, they needed to change the IPs and start using 3 vNIC (instead of 1) on each virtual machine.  Each vNIC with a different subnet mask.  All support should be conducted by a team of outsourced with minimum experience of VMware.  The only way to support something like this and be effective is PowerCLI.  With just invited the naming convention only, you can perform various tasks such as query the virtual computer and check its settings of portgroup compared to its actual IP information in the operating system, initiate a ping from .NET to the virtual machine, if there is any questions Act automatically.  Some actions that will have to be performed include, for example, change the portgroup or mask on a set of clients;  Or questioning guests and glean information network (CDP, vSwitch, portgroup of information etc.) and compare observed network vs network expected enumerated in the PG naming convention. etc etc.  The list of actions that you can take are limited only by your creativity.  The naming standards give you effective power both in manual and automatic efforts.

Still, notice of one man, but every site I care and feeding generally ends with a PG standard similar to what I first described above in my previous post.  Don't forget my example naming convention is Basic.  There are many other attributes that you can add (i.e. in vCloud deployments, in addition to the info network, you can choose to identify various features specific to vCloud org-networks, etc.).

TBH just most of the companies have appointed VM-network exchanges (ok not bad) or some random shortname which doesn't help troubleshooting.  They are fairly easy to fix and also change over time, if necessary.  You can easily drag and drop a set of virtual machines (although I don't personally do this way) in the new port group (via the page of networking to CTRL + SHIFT + N) or PowerCLI it (Yes!  way to go).  Of course, always the ping tests before and after the change.  There are a lot of scripts out there (or ask master lucd post in PowerCLI VMTN forums).  If this is net-news, then you are ahead of the game and will have a standard to follow, whatever it is.

Best of luck and have fun!

  • Adding table to an existing group

I am trying to remote installation wizard allows you to add a PS6210x to an existing PS6000 with a PS6210xs group. I have successfully added tables the same group with RSW in the past, but I get an error this time on a bad group password. I logged in with this password manager, so I know that it is correct.

The new table has firmware 8.1 and tables in the existing group always run 7.1.x. Is it possible that in fact is the problem and I just need to update the old firmware to table first?

    Thank you.

    1. you use the user 'grpadmin' to connect to the GroupMgr, but this password may be another. Especially over a long period a customer may change the password for grpadmin but forget to change the GroupPW.

Within GrpMgmr klick on group-> Member-> Set Password to set a new GroupPW. You don't need to know the old man!

    2. Yes, at the end of the day all members must be at the same level of FW, but this should not be your problem right now.

We upgade existing members first of all for the course prior to FW, adding new members. We are also new members in a 'maintenance' pool to be sure that no data migration starts automatically.

  • D2k migration to the latest platform

    Dear friends

    Nice day

We have a challenge, I need your expert advice on the following points:

    1. So far, we are using Oracle 9i + D2k on Windows Server 2003 32-bit.
    2. Our database, forms, and States have been for the past 15 years and its been created with many controls according to the requirement of the company and works very well.
    3. Now we want to upgrade our server to windows 8 and all users have started using Windows 7 and 64-bit Windows 8.
    4. This application will not support for the 64-bit platform.

    1. I want to know what will be the migration of the existing process later. (Database, forms, and reports)
    2. What type of license is needed and about what will be the cost per user.

I will be grateful if I can get a clear suggestion that will help me to discuss with management and to plan accordingly.

    best regards

    Sandy

I'm a bit confused of your real environment. You have Forms 6i and Oracle 9i database?

If so, there is a change architecture of 6i to the current version of 11G. Cleint server-based forms 6i and you had a client installation of runtime-forms and actual execution of the forms was on the client. With 11G you need to a Weblogic Server where forms are executed on the client only the GUI runs as a java applet.

There are several built-in the forms 6i who no longer work (for example RUN_PRODUCT) and the other is no longer runs on the client, but on the application server (for example, HOST or OLE2).

Migration effort depends heavily on what features you are using in your application.

I suggest you take a look at the documentation here form of Oracle

  • groups of ports (number of network cards)

I understand that a virtual machine vMotion between esx hosts network configurations must match (port groups/virtual switches).

I would like to know as long as port groups and virtual switches correspond between the guests, whatever the number of network cards is assigned to a virtual switch for vMotion work?

    Example:

    ESX host: Host1 - vSwitch2 with groups A, B - a vmnic2, vmnic3

    ESX host: Host2 - vSwitch2 with Group A, B - a vmnic2, vmnic3, vmnic5

VMotion will still work in this scenario. I think that the game groups and port vSwitches, he cares about the number of network interface cards.

    Thanks in advance!

You are right.  It does not matter if you don't have the same number of physical adapter assigned to a vSwitch for vMotion to work.

  • Add the new PS4100 to an existing group

    Hello

anyone would be able to explain the process of adding a new table to an existing group, please?

We have a new PS4100 which was delivered with the 7.0.15 Firmware but the Group has a range of PS4000 on Firmware 8.0.5.

How can I upgrade the firmware on the new PS4100 before running the Setup utility?

    Thank you very much

    Tom

Let the new Member to join an EMPTY pool as the "default" (its still a void in our environments) or create an and name the program installation or maintenance.

If the table has joined this pool complete the configuration as Ports IP/network, RAID level and so on. I prefer a complete reconstruction and not a fast initialization, but it's your choice. Updated the FW and also check the FW drive.

Try to ping the new IP addresses of existing hosts and if everything is OK, move member in your production area.

    Kind regards

  • Two groups of ports with same VLAN on the same Vswitch?

I'm doing a consolidation.  We had two different people put up two closed different of Vsphere and different network labels were used.   Of course the network labels must exactly match vmotion without losing connectivity.    So I was hoping that I could just create groups in double port on my vswitch for VLAN do not match them.  I know I could just migrate them and move quickly from the network label, but some of them are essential and may not fall.

For example, on a cluster, I might have a port for Vlan ID 88 group that says 'Web DMZ'.  But the other cluster has "WWW" VLan ID 88.    Can I just create a second group of ports on the first group which also used Vlan ID 88 with the name 'WWW' and I started?    Which will cause problems with switching (loops, etc.)?

Hope it makes sense.  Guess the short answer is can I I have two groups of different ports on a vswitch using the same VLAN ID tag without causing problems?

Creation of several groups of ports with the same VLAN ID should not cause any problem. This is only marking/close the traffic to and from the virtual machine, is nothing like that of loops,... to be afraid of.

  • Change the VM group vCenter watch NIC port is connected to the old and the new portgroup

    OK, I have built/upgraded to vSphere 5.

Everything is fine, and now we migrate the virtual machine to the new VDS switches.

I'm migrating each VM frm the old VSS to their port group concerned on the VDS.

EVERYTHING is going very well unless I have a few VM, is that when I change VSS port 'The Virtual Machine Network' group the new service VDS 'Network of the Virtual Machine' vCenter shows the VM as being connected to vSwitches/Exchange.

If you look at the network/host the virtual computer configuration is shown as attached to the VSS and VDS.

If you use the CLI PowerShell the VM shows that connected to only the VDS, great she is successful, but how can I remove the old switch if he thinks that it is connected to a virtual computer?

The VM keep in network connectivity.

I also tried to change the portgroup interface CLI PS and it returns the same result in vSphere.

    Any thoughts?

Was it virtual machines running snapshot in assets when they have been migrated from VSS for VDS?

If so, both can be listed in the properties of the VM... In case you need to return the nod on those virtual machines, they will be then be reconnected to the old vs...

  • NX7K VDC: port of groups in the module Ethernet 48 ports 1 G / 10G F2?

Have two or three questions about the allocation of ports on the Ethernet 1 module G / 10G F2 to VCC. Thanks for any help.

    (1) the most recent is F2 1 G / 10 G 48-port Ethernet module has groups of ports such as 10 G 32 ports older Ethernet module? If Yes, where can I get information on the mapping between the ports and port groups?

    (2) the module of 10 G of 32 has old ports of ports dedicated or shared because of its bandwidth of 80 G to the fabrid of switching mode. Is each port of the latest F2 10G module at the rate of 10G line or the same as the older 32 ports module? I want to make sure that the ports of 10G for link peer vPC are online.
