mimeTypes.RDF corruption

I'm always presented with a launching Application dialog box asking me if I want to allow iTunes to open links itms and itmss. I do it: I really, really do. I click on the checkbox to make this choice permanent. The links then normally open in iTunes.

But I ask myself every time.

I see references to the itms and itmss in my mimetypes.rdf are faulty - they lack entered /RDF:Description close (at least - maybe the other stuff is missing, too?):

< RDF RDF: about = "urn: scheme: Manager: itms.

                  NC:useSystemDefault="true"
                  NC:alwaysAsk="false" />

I tried to add the missing entries to see if this would lead to appear in the Options > > list of Applications, but no go.

Not a huge problem, but I prob click through the dialog box launch App 15 to 20 times a week. I hope there is an easy solution? Thank you!

Some tags are self-closing (compatible with the / > ending), so I'm not sure that everything is really missing it. (I don't have iTunes on this system).

You want to try to get Firefox to regenerate the file? Here's how:

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using

Help > troubleshooting information > "view file" button.

Switch back to Firefox and output

Pause while Firefox finishing his cleaning, then rename the mimeTypes.rdf to something like mimeTypes.old

Restart Firefox. I hope that now your preference will be executed.

  • I trashed my mimetypes.rdf file to restore stocks of download, and now Firefox will not open because profile missing, please notify

Until very recently, when I want to download a pdf file, it will open automatically, and recently, for some reason, it stopped automatically opening and just downloaded on my desktop where I wanted. I found the instructions on Mozilla if files uploaded but not display, displaying my profile and then folder to delete. Create a new profile as a test to see if your profile is the source of the problems.

    See "create a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a profile in the new profile, but make sure not to copy corrupted files.

  • Mailto are not

When you try to set the mail client by default Firefox (Menu-> Options-> Applications-> Content Type) "mailto" is not a listed option. I don't know how to set this if it is not listed as an application or how to recreate as a "content type". Any suggestions?

It's strange, I think it should always be included in a new installation. If you use the search above the list box, you have a better chance if you just type my instead of mailto?

If you have been under Firefox for a while, it is possible that the file that stores your Application preferences may become corrupted. Because the file is difficult to change, we generally recommend remove/rename the file and have Firefox generate a new. Here's how:

  • Manage file associations

I started to get the message that an associated help file is not found when I try to open a pdf file. I found instructions that say I should go to tools/options, select the content and then in the section file types, select manage. But there is no file under content types section. Where the new Firefox moved the section types of file - I can't find it anywhere.

    Hello

In your Options dialog go to the Applications tab. You can manage your file associations there.

Note that if you're still having problems with your file associations, you may have a corrupted file mimetypes.rdf . You can go to your profile to rename Centennial mimetypes.rdf or something so that Firefox can rebuild and restore all of your default associations.

To access your profile, go to the topic: support page, or:

    • Help (or

      >

    And click view file.

  • Firefox will not remember to use the reader for PDF downloads

When you use Gmail, I have an email with attachments in PDF. For each PDF attachment, there are 3 possibilities: use the player integrated, download or copy of Google Drive. When I selected download, the popup says "you have chosen to open:...» "and then offers you two selections: 'Open with' and 'Save File '. Previously, the option 'Open with' remember that I wanted to use the drive with the PDF file. It no longer does this. I have to go and find the drive every time, even if I clicked "do this automatically". Whenever I have go to the player, he will use it. It won't be just remembering to use drive next time. Under Application Options, it does not for the PDF files, it must 'Use Adobe Reader'. I reinstalled Firefox, as well as ensuring that records in my application profile data have been deleted, so there is a clean version.

Test with a single message, it seems that Google sends good content-type header (' application/pdf'). The present attached screenshot the "response headers" in the web console.

Sometimes the settings file that stores your preferences for handling download becomes corrupt with duplicated or contradictory information. Its format internal being impenetrable, it is generally easier to remove the file and have Firefox rebuild. You must update your PDF preferences once again, but I hope that it will work again.

Leave this window open, switch back to Firefox and output, either:

    • File menu > exit

Pause while Firefox finishing his cleaning, then rename the mimeTypes.rdf to something like mimeTypes.old

Restart Firefox upward, review the Options/Applications and select PDF preferences, then retest Gmail. Any improvement?

I get a file (pixel.cgi) who wants to download when I use certain sites (Groupon / Thomas Cook). I scanned my mac for the virus, but none can be found.

The page has at least 3 forms invisible that automatically submit to securepaths. com which is probably some sort of tracking site. The site sends answers normally capable of managing internal Firefox, so I don't know why you're getting invited to record in the form of a download.

The standard approach to download actions wrong is to be wary of corruption of the settings file that stores these settings. You can rename the file and Firefox to regenerate to see if that solved the problem. (You will need to review the Applications section of the Preferences dialog box to reselect the default preferences, such as your favorite email client and the PDF Viewer).

    Here's how:

Open the settings folder (AKA Firefox profile) current Firefox help

  • Firefox won't open the shockwave flash files because there are 2 types?

Firefox does not open some swf files when I say that this is the cause. However, http://edmullen.net/test/poopboy.swf works fine.

I looked in my Options-> Applications menu and found this http://i.imgur.com/kPVOHdE.png

So it has got 2 different types of SWFs to meet him. I can't tell the top affliate background is the same way.

I tried to uninstall the plugin. This removed the bottom and meant that the poopboy.swf I also linked didn't work in the same way, however, put it back, I was just back to the drawing board.

I want to add that these particular .swf files that I'm running worked yesterday so file corruption is not the problem, especially since I went and all the redownloaded.

These two SWF entries are on different MIME types that first one appears to be damaged or at least unusual. and probably the second (application/x-shockwave-flash) should be there.

You can rename (or delete) the file mimeTypes.rdf in the profile folder of Firefox to reset all the actions file.

  • I can't open mailto links in external Web sites.

When I click on an e-mail link in some sites, it is said there is no application to open the mailto link. I went in the help menus, where I am asked to find the mailto function and add an application. It has no mailto feature in the list, so I can't link an application. It seems that my firefox has no knowledge of mailto. I don't get one local yahoo like any other. What should I do? I have Firefox 20.0.1and gmail and windows 7.

Then in the dialog box Options, Applications Panel, mailto does not appear or is not any choice? This could indicate that the settings file that stores download actions is corrupt. Because its format is somewhat cryptic, the standard drug in this situation is to rename if Firefox cannot find and then a new one will be automatically generated.

    Here's how:

Open the settings folder (AKA Firefox profile) current Firefox help

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > troubleshooting information
    • Menu help > troubleshooting information

In the first table of the page, click on the view file"" button.

    • "3-bar" menu button > button "power".
    • File menu > exit

Pause while Firefox finishing his cleaning, then rename the mimeTypes.rdf to something like mimeTypes.old

Launch Firefox back up again. Mailto appears in the Options?

The next time go you on Yahoo he expected to trigger Firefox to display an information bar between the lower part of the toolbar and the top of the page to add the latest version of its mailto handler.

I have Windows XP. Using firefox as my browser. All of a sudden, I can't open the PDF files in the browser. I tried all the mentioned patches. Nothing works! Check the configuration of the plugin, checked the settings Adobe Reader.

Is the problem that Firefox opens a blank tab, or that it requires you to download the file?

I guess you tried switching spectators between the internal viewer and the Adobe plugin. If this article does not, steps: How to disable the built-in PDF Viewer and use another Viewer. Sometimes behind switching will allow to correct an error in the settings file.

You can rename or delete the settings file that stores these associations and have Firefox regenerate. If the file is corrupt, this could be the only option that works. Here's how:

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using

Help > troubleshooting information > "view file" button.

Leave this window open, activate any Firefox window and quit the program (for example, the file menu > exit or Firefox menu > Exit)

Pause while Firefox finishing his cleaning, then rename the mimeTypes.rdf to something like mimeTypes.old

Restart Firefox. Your likely PDF preferences will be reset to the internal PDF Viewer, but you can activate the Adobe plugin as described in the above-linked article.

Hi Matt, sometimes the application's preferences end up with multiple entries, some under 'Adobe Acrobat... "and the other under" Portable Document Format (PDF).

If you have fiddled with all those who, without success, the settings file that stores these associations may has been corrupted. You can rename or delete and have Firefox regenerate. Here's how:

  • I can't open PDF documents

When I click on a PDF file, a new tab opens. It gives me the opportunity to open the document directly or save it - that's what I have set preferences to do. When I try one of these options, however, nothing happens. It doesn't open a new empty tab. My specs are lower. I have run all relevant software updates.

    System: OS X 10.8.2

    Adobe Reader: 10.1.5

    Firefox: 18.0.1

I've seen this problem on other posts and I did some research on the web. I tried the solutions that were provided and worked for other people, however I have noticed they were running old versions of some software, etc. Interestingly, I CAN open PDFs that come to me or that I send through Gmail.

I did the following in accordance with the notice that I saw:

    Erased my downloads list

Tried to disable the NPAPI Adobe plug-in

In my Firefox preferences: I put open Adobe PDF documents. I also tried with preview. None of them worked.

I appreciate any help you can offer.

That worked very well for me.
In the case your application preferences file is corrupted, you could try rename or delete.
Help > troubleshooting information > 'display the folder '.
The file is named mimeTypes.rdf and if you rename or delete, there must be regenerated with a default the next time you restart Firefox.

I am running version 7.0.1; but I think that this problem has manifested itself when I upgraded to 6.0. When I click on a hyperlink that is supposed to open a dialog box send nothing happens.

There must be a set of e-mail client in order to see no effect if you select shipping.

Please first make sure that this part is correct and it is the mail program by default as the set of the operating system and setting Mailto in tools > Options > Applications.

Other parameters that can interfere are prefs to mail that you can check on the subject: config page and a possible corruption of the mimeTypes.rdf file in the profile folder.
