    Hi valleyml,

-When you say "restore - point program is missing" do you mean to say that the system restore feature is missing or there is no restore point while trying to run the system restore?

If you are referring to the restoration of the system, start the tool to restore the system to the command prompt and check.
Check out this link to do the same thing:

    Hello

    I found this info:

If there is no free disk space on the monitored system drive or on any of the available non-system drives, System Restore purges restore systematically points in all monitored partitions to free disk space. If the free disk space falls below 50 MB on any monitored partition, System Restore will stop watch and suspend.

Someone please help! I am an intermediate user and I can't get windows update to work since December 4. I was on youtube and what you clicked on a link under a video, a Malware Removal window skipped upward and before I could do anything he disappeared since this happened, windows update does not work, (not KB972696) (error 80072efe code). I ran AVG, advanced system care and a multitude of online programs that say they will fix the problem with nothing doesn't. I tried to remove the "winhelp" virus last night by doing the hard and using regedit, but it did not help. I'll do anything to remedy. Can someone help me please. I am at a total loss about what to do next? I get a sign of malware/trojan removal of ad-aware and defender who said "onacokuhupotovun.dll_old" but he says it removed but it comes back. I get a pop-up from windows saying "a service host has stopped working and was closed" but soen can't say that. • Hardware changes not detected using a flash drive, the missing, system restore points tried every fix that MS can offer in Windows 7

All of a sudden, I have several problems with my computer.  I can't not computer to recognize a flash drive.  Printer works in the same usb port.  I used Device Manager, checked the drivers, made every difficulty that MS has to offer, each difficulty that Dell can offer, but the problem remains.  I don't feel uncomfortable so I don't have to play with the registry.  I uninstalled the drivers and rebooted.  The only changes that I did before this happened was to uninstall and reinstall I-tunes.  The flash drive, I use would be defective?  When I went to the system restore, my restore points have disappeared, that was the point where I uninstalled I-tunes.  I also noticed that when I tried to detect problems with the resolution of the problems of hardware and devices, it says "material changes may not have been detected.  In detail, it also shows "there is no configured windows in a way never install driver - edition".  WHAT?  I know that windows IS configured to automatically install.  (Deep breath)

Very well.  So I am at a loss.  Any suggestions?  Thank you very much for your time and your attention...

    1. What is the model of your Dell computer?
    2. that all measures tried on your own to fix this?
3 have you tried to test the flash drive on another computer to see if it is faulty?

This problem arises usually when the flash drive is faulty or the chipset drivers are in conflict with the USB drivers.  I recommend you to consult the following Microsoft article and check.

I have Pavilion p6610 desktop Win 7 Home premium 64 bit I have cleaned my computer, tune, Defrag, ran MS fixit, ran malware removal, called internet provider for bad connection (buffering, etc.) they said it was a software program interfering with my ability to computers to have full access to the output of my modem , (only 2 bars on the taskbar icon) so I gave in and decided to try the AOL System Mechanic. Ran all the tools last night, then stop. I tried to open documents of MS today (15/10/2015) will not open. Hi @TY965

I understand that you are not able to use restore points, and that you are having problems with a certain software factory installed on your HP System. I'm happy to help you with this.

As a first step, you can try using the Recovery Manager and see if the software is among those available from your original image to install instead of a full factory image installation. See the following document that shows how to do this.

Computers HP - using Recovery Manager to restore the software and drivers (Windows 7)

Then, to the question of the restoration of the system, maybe try to use SFC/scannow, as described below. The second page includes more specific details to a problem of system restore.

Use the File Checker system to repair missing or corrupted system files - support.microsoft.com

  • Windows Xp Sp3 System Restore Points in the process of disappearance

Without warning my system restore points are missing.

I checked all the obvious reasons (lack of disk space, etc.)

I can always put a manually restore point, but when I do it disappears the next time and I'm back to a restore point

Anyone in the community saw this behavior before?

    Y at - it a known solution?

I need my system restore to function properly as over the years, I've resorted to using it on more than one occasion

    Any help would be appreciated

    Keith

I just got the 'volume' down on my percentage for RPs to 200 MB space and he killed all of them except the last RP.

Then (although SR was always open) I did a new PR and there were two in the calendar.  Then I did another and there were three...

Then I closed SR and began again and only the last one (number 3) was still there and the other two had been killed.

Did you present your cursor percentage of volume, right?  If this isn't the case, you should at least try.

  • Need help with manual XP restore point files to copy

    Hello

I have a Sony VAIO VGC-RB40 with XP SP3 Desktop installed.  I had a module of RAM go bad and it crashed my system.  I pulled the bad RAM and am able to boot into Windows, but there are some things corrupt as I can not drag and drop, IE does not work, some functions of the system are tangled Windows, etc..   More important still, System Restore does not in my current state, so I can't go back to a previous good restore point.  I backed up my important data, but I'm trying to restore my system back again without wiping everything and start again.  Have followed instructions to manually copy the files to restore to a previous good point point to work around this problem, I'm stuck.  An example of instructions I'm following are here: http://www.aitechsolutions.net/winxpnoboot.html

At this point, I have all of the necessary registry hive files from a copied previous good restore point in a temp directory ready to crush the current (bad) registry files, but ran into several problems:

    (1) no XP Recovery Console - I need to start a prompt to copy the files to restore onto they're blocked if you're on Windows, but I do not have RC installed since my XP Sony came pre-installed.  All I have is a recovery disc I made which does not let me do anything except wipe my drive and re - install or fix some applications only.  So I downloaded an iso file from XP RC online and made a boot disk that works very well.  Problem is that it doesn't let me recognize my SATA Western Digital C drive:-I see only H:\Minint available through RC, which does not help me.  My understanding is that I need to have the SATA driver files available to use F6 to load these at startup RC so that it recognizes the C: drive.

    (2) so I tried to find the drivers to copy on a diskette to use F6 to install the necessary files, I need to recognize the drive within the RC, but I had no chance.  My Sony has the driver chipset Intel 915 G/P/GV v. 6.0.0.0.1014 and I went on the Sony website but the download is for an installer automatically installs the original drivers that I don't want to do.  I want just the files so I can copy them to a floppy disk.  I also looked on my hard drive and found a directory of the Intel driver then I copied all the files on a diskette in the hope that he would.  But when I tried F6, it says to a file "txtsetup.oem" that isn't there.  He may miss some INF files as well, I'm not sure.  So basically, I still can't boot from the drive RC and recognize my C: to copy the restore point files.

    (3) I also watched my BIOS to see if I can change a setting to enable the SATA drive being recognized as IDE, by some suggestions, I found online.  Problem is my BIOS settings do not seem to have any compatibility option, at least, I don't see one.  When I choose my WD200JD-98HBC0 drive in the BIOS, the 5 options are: LBA/large Mode, block Mode and PIO Mode, Mode DMA S.M.A.R.T.  The first 2 have only choices Auto / disabled.  PIO mode is Auto/0/1/2/3/4 options that I don't understand.  DMA mode has a lot of options, I do not understand.  So unless there is a setting here allows me to have my C: recognized on startup through the RC disk, I don't know?

    (4) my last idea unless someone can help me understand how to recognize my C: is if I remove the disc from my office and put in a USB enclosure and connect it to my laptop.  Then from there, peux I just manually copy these files over to the windows/system32 folder?  Which is equivalent to boot the system through RC and to do or is there something I'm missing here?  It seems the same to me, as long as I can access those bad registry files and overwrite them with 'good', isn't that do the same thing?

Suggestions of other ways that I can restore my system would be appreciated!  If I can just do an XP repair which would also work, but still I am not sure that my Sony recovery disk allows me to do this?

    Thank you
    Shawn

As I read, what you're asking for basically is a way to start your machine so that you can move the files on it to try to repair.  Instead of using a Recovery Console, try to create a free "Hirens Boot CD"
    Hirens Boot CD: <> http://www.hirensbootcd.org/ >
You can start your machine of this and should be able to move the files.  I am not absolutely certain that it handles the SATA drives, but I could not find a machine yet it wouldn't start and access hard drive.  Choose "Mini Windows XP" on the first screen.  It focuses on the windows in order to run a Chkdsk on your hard disk (recommended) in addition to move the files.

Another alternative is to boot your machine from a free Linux Live CD like Knoppix or Ubuntu.
    Knoppix <> http://www.knoppix.net/ >
    Ubuntu <> http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download >
If you choose Ubuntu, don't forget that it is an installation disc and you * not * to install.  Choose the option "Try Me" instead.  One of these you will start to Linux and to recognize certainly your SATA drive.  This will allow to move the files, but will not perform a repair disk.  Be careful about editing text files as Linux uses an end of line character different than Windows.

  • How to restore a significant update to Windows 7 I lost after a restart for an earlier version of the system restore point?

I am running Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 on a desktop HP Pavilion Elite HPE-350 t. Recently, a malfunction of Windows at startup caused my father reboot the system to a previous system restore point. (He says it was one of several options at startup.) Everything seems to work fine now except that I seem to have lost a critical update Windows downloaded after the restore point, Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.256. Still, there are in my Windows update history and is listed as "installed successfully", but when I check my updates installed, it is absent. Also, when I try to search for updates installed, I get a message indicating that Windows is up-to-date. I can't uninstall the update and re - install because it is missing from my list of installed updates. So I guess that the re-start to a previous system restore point has put this important WIndows update in limbo. How can ensure me that this update is installed correctly and working properly?

    Hello hakimbenzakis,

Absolutely, because based on that you are running the latest version of the Windows Update Agent and have the last update to it.

    ·         What other question you face other than audio?

    ·         What is the Volume icon missing from the system tray?

  • System Restore create not automatic restore points

I recently posted a related problem, which has been repaired/fixed, see http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Operating-systems-and-software/System-Restore-does-not-retain-restore-p...

My HP Pavilion DV6 is not creating Automatic restore points.  Laptop is ~ 3 months and is using Windows 7.   In my previous post, I had trouble with the restore points disappear.  This problem has been fixed when I corrected a number of bad sectors on my hard drive. Now, I can manually create restore points and they remain intact.  Manual of several points have been in place for a few weeks.  However, I don't get the automatic restore points.  I checked the Task Scheduler, it has listed the restoration of the system, the Task Scheduler Service is started and set to automatic.  I put triggers restore to create a restore point 02:00 every day and start the system.  Whenever I have check the properties of SR within the Task Scheduler window, it lists today and said that "the operation completed successfully (0x0).  However, no restore point is created.  I can't find any errors listed in the event where the viewer associated with the restoration of the system, kind of most prospects, it seems that the Restore Points should be created, but there is no list but the manual I did myself. I've set the conditions of restoration as follows: 1) start the task only if the computer is idle for 10 minutes. (2) wait for idle for 10 minutes. (3) wake the computer to run the task.  System Restore has 15% of disk space for storing points, so there is plenty of room.  Interestingly, on the properties of SR tab listed 'History', says ' story (disabled), so there is nothing listed there.»

I must be missing something - any ideas?

Last updated: the scenario and the procedure of johngalt I linked above works like a charm.  I'm daily Restore Points just like I want.  In the cases where I decide I want to only a couple of a week, I can easily change the new task at the request I created, so I don't plan to post further.   Question is resolved :-)  Thanks for the help!
