  Hello

  I just got my Storm this week (my first Blackberry) and managed to configure my emails to my gmail account (the single e-mail account I set up at the moment). I noticed that when I set up my gmail account a new icon appeared on my Menu for my emails gmail next to the normal 'Messages' icon. Whenever I get an email from my gmail times the normal icon to 'Messages' account and gmail email message icon inform me that I have an email. What is the point to this?

  The only thing I can think is that the "Messages" icon shows you all the emails received by all registered email accounts. Is this the case? In this case, I'll just hide the gmail icon and use the standard Messages icon.

  Could someone let me know on this subject? Even if I just answered my own question! P

  Also when I was installing my sound notifications for text messages I saw 'Level 1' on the list of notifications that you can change the settings. What is a 'Level 1' notification?

  I downloaded some ringtones and alerts to my phone and managed to transfer to the PC. My question is how can I get my phone to play different alerts and ringtones for various applications. I wish that my emails have a different my sms alert, etc.

  Click the icon for your profile and scroll down to the tip. Then select the profile you want to edit. You will see then a whole list of things that you can change the alert for. For example, click on "phone". Your first setting is "off the case". This means that you don't have the phone mode "sleep" or in an approved Holster BB. You can change this voice against zero which means no warning at all. Tone would be your choice of ringtone. Vibe and ring would vibrate THEN ring. Vibrate is vibrate. Next option is tune. You can select a preloaded ringtone, or if you want to choose a song that you downloaded browse choose music, and song. Then is volume. Low medium high climbing or none. Then repeat the notification is none or flashing LED. When turned on your status light flashes red for a long time after you have missed a call. This works for other alerts as well. Then there is the number of vibrations before the song starts 1, 2 or 3. But you do not consider that if you do not use vibrate. So you want to change the setting for in case as well.   I'm having a very disappointing time with my new Blackberry 9700 I could really use help with it please.

  Following the installation wizard, I arrived to the e-mail configuration. The ONLY option is to enter an address associated with an Enterprise Server. There is no option to choose my Gmail account.

  After this step, I was hoping to find an alternative to get where I needed to be, but does not (at least none that I could find). Then I tried to upgrade my device software, which I did. So I am now under v5.0.0.405. Still no icon for the configuration of email in the settings window.

  I even tried to install Google Sync, but there is no hanging at "first login".

  I was really hoping it would be a lot easier than what I've heard great things about BB. I come from a Windows Mobile, so eager to get this resolved.

  Go to menu, profiles, do scroll to the tip, normal or that one is active and go to each mail account and change the ringtone.

  To add to the above, you will need to override the methods "automatic" which will use the foregoing. Left alone, the "automatic" methods will offer only you OS packages sanctioned by the carrier for which your BB was built (under the VendorID on the device). But, you are not limited only to those... the easiest is, on a PC (you can not do on MAC):

  1) uninstall all the BB OS packages from your PC,

  (2) make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed

  (3) download and install to your PC, the BB OS package you want:

  • You need to dig through this portal to find carriers that support your model but also to compare their different OS packages that are available.

  (4) If this OS package comes from one carrier other carrier for which your BB was built, then remove, on your PC, all copies of the SELLER. XML... There will be at least one and maybe 2, and they will be located in the same way or to (it changes based on your version of Windows) these files:

  • C:\Program Files (x 86) \Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader

  Your device, that's all that you can do the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2, each should result in a message to your BB to come...) Please wait for this before moving on to the next step):

  (1) registry HRT

  (3) restart to take batt

  • With power ON, remove the hood back and remove the battery. Wait a minute, then replace the battery and cover. Power on and wait patiently through the long reboot - about 5 minutes. See if things return to functioning. Like all computing devices, BB suffers from memory leaks and others... with a hard reboot is the best remedy.

  If this does not it, it's on the door-side (as they have told you), and unless you have a way to fight them, you must wait for them to solve.   I have a BB Bold 9900 and went to use a flashlight app already installed on the phone.  The phone closed and restarted.   When it started back I lost everything?  Don't know why or how.  What I'm concerneced everything becomes everything back.   I was able to recover images lost with a data recovery program.  That being said I'm sure I can do the same for the other missing information, contacts and emails etc...   What I can not find and have looked everywhere on the support forums is what is the name of the contacts folder and where he might be going through windows Explorer.   No, I was not smart enough to make a backup of the phone before it went then restore on a precedent to back up is completely out of the question.   Thanks in advance for any direction or help with my problem.
