  I just got my Storm this week (my first Blackberry) and managed to configure my emails to my gmail account (the single e-mail account I set up at the moment). I noticed that when I set up my gmail account a new icon appeared on my Menu for my emails gmail next to the normal 'Messages' icon. Whenever I get an email from my gmail times the normal icon to 'Messages' account and gmail email message icon inform me that I have an email. What is the point to this?

  The only thing I can think is that the "Messages" icon shows you all the emails received by all registered email accounts. Is this the case? In this case, I'll just hide the gmail icon and use the standard Messages icon.

  Could someone let me know on this subject? Even if I just answered my own question! P

  Also when I was installing my sound notifications for text messages I saw 'Level 1' on the list of notifications that you can change the settings. What is a 'Level 1' notification?

  I have a BB Bold 9900 and went to use a flashlight app already installed on the phone.  The phone closed and restarted.   When it started back I lost everything?  Don't know why or how.  What I'm concerneced everything becomes everything back.   I was able to recover images lost with a data recovery program.  That being said I'm sure I can do the same for the other missing information, contacts and emails etc...   What I can not find and have looked everywhere on the support forums is what is the name of the contacts folder and where he might be going through windows Explorer.   No, I was not smart enough to make a backup of the phone before it went then restore on a precedent to back up is completely out of the question.   Thanks in advance for any direction or help with my problem.

  Click the icon for your profile and scroll down to the tip. Then select the profile you want to edit. You will see then a whole list of things that you can change the alert for. For example, click on "phone". Your first setting is "off the case". This means that you don't have the phone mode "sleep" or in an approved Holster BB.   Email and SMS/MMS all combined in main box mailbox messages until a few weeks ago. Now, when I get an SMS message, I'll still take the little icon showing me I have mail, but when I click on my mail box, there is no new message.  I have to click on the menu, click the display folder, and then click SMS messages to display. My phone IS set on the combine (believe me, I checked and re-checked this hundred times already), and I even did a hard restart more than once to try to get it working again. Any ideas?

  BUT now I can't restore my data to my phone.   When I used the Desktop Manager, I clicked on restore and then came a box that says: "the data in the following databases...". • Problem with email and SMS, after 1.3.5

  Ditto for Messaging. I don't use it very often. But yesterday I receive a text message and tried to answer and got the error message.

  I power the phone off every night because I have a landline phone and use it as the main telephone at home.

  I looked around bulletin boards, trying to find a solution for this.  Has anyone had this problem and it was resolved?

  I found a fix for the problem of e-mail messages on precentral and this Council a few months ago. The info came in a Google search and not the research councils, which is frustrating.  Here is the info and the link.  I wish really that Palm info on this work around on their site, or at least makes it easy for people to find.  The solution is the last post in the thread linked below:

  Had the same problem.  Checked with Earthlink - no help.  Checked with Sprint - without help.  Checked with Palm - no help.  Finally, here's what worked:

  Delete the earthlink account and start again.  When you do - it's the key - set up the account manually.  If you use the default settings of pre and try to change the settings it will not fix the problem. Your settings for outgoing mail must be:

  "smtpauth.earthlink.net.

  Use authentication in position 'on '.

  user name is your email address

  your password by e-mail

  Port "587" value

  encryption 'none '.

  Again, the key is to set it manually.

  Look carefully at the API - there are three distinct objects of the Message:

  javax.wireless.messaging.Message (SMS)

  net.rim.blackberry.api.blackberrymessenger.Message (BB Messenger - 4.2.1 and higher)

  net.rim.blackberry.api.mail.Message (email)

  All three a really different classes completely different methods and properties.
