  You can do exactly and without error.

  Here's one way:

  Direct selection and copy a long side of the shpe you want to fill with a gradient.

  Paste in front (Cmd + F on Mac).

  Double-click the tool rotation (R) and type 90 °.

  Make a guide of your path (Cmd + 5). This new guide is the direction of your gradient.

  With the Smart Guides turned on, use the tool degraded (G) to drag the gradient to fit the width of the shape.

  Here's another way:

  Hi Nita.

  I don't know that anyone has definitely found a good limit that you found along the paths can be a problem. I guess that it is 255 characters as this figure appears elsewhere. As a general rule, I try and keep my ways of project as short as possible, even shorten the directory names where possible.

  David, your version worked quite well, I just modified a bit to get the right calculation.

  The wheel now works as expected and the scroller.maxvalue is calculated as ((number of items) * height of the first item).

  Everything works fine until I have started using the automatic layout manager. The option 'fill' at least makes it really hard to understand the final height of the internal objects. So they must be defined accordingly.
