Move the database to the server running Oracle 11 G to the server running Oracle 12 c

I'm trying to find the best way to migrate a database to a server that is running Oracle 11 G on a server that is running Oracle 12 c.

I tried using the RMAN duplicate command of database but have run in many too many problems when you try to configure both servers before running the command duplicate.  If someone could provide some guidelines on configuring two servers of the RMAN Duplicate command clearly then that would be great.  The other thing, I've tried makes a cold backup of all files for the database (data files, control files, etc.).  Copy them to the new server, and then re-create the control file to include the correct location and names for the data files and the redologs.  After you re-create the database control file does not start.  I suspect that it is because of differences in version.

If you can provide me with claire (ie. migration for Dummies) instructions to get one of these methods of work, it would be greatly appreciated.  I am also open to any other method you can think of to achieve what I'm trying to accomplish.

Thank you

Paul,

Please, go to the PDF below he explains the process of upgrading.

You can create all the tablepsaces and then use utility Import/export where the directory paths are different

Thank you

  • The fastest way to move a database to another server even.

    Hello gurus,
Normally, I have worked with exp/imp, but now our database is too large to move this way takes about 24 hours for export and import. We bought new hardware and I need to go the new material on the production database. Operating system is the same Red Hat Enterprise rel 5.6 Linux 64 bit, oracle is the same 10.2.0.40 same block and character size, 64-bit, only difference, is that the new hardware has space more physical and better memory. Is there an easy way to move the data by copying on the control files and data files to a new server? I have not tried, data pump or transportable tablespaces, and I have limited time - so this request. I need to find the solution the faster your advice, so I can learn quickly how to implement your recemendation.
My export .dmp database size is 34GB.
    Any advice would be great!

No need to run a database create new host - already built sound at the source. Make a software 'only' install and get the ORACLE_HOME corrected and updated, you'll clone basically just the database to the new instance.

As long as the source database is in archivelog mode, you can put the database in backup mode, copy the files of data, complete backup to the source mode and make a log switch.

    Here's a detail how at: http://www.dba-oracle.com/oracle_tips_db_copy.htm

Instead of step to RECOVER the DATABASE, we use ' database to RECOVER up to TIME AAAA-MM-JJ HH24:MI:SS to the AID of BACKUP CONTROLFILE; "and the value until the time a second or two beyond the"... save end;' timestamp to the source instance. "

You will need this archivelog, maybe encourage the file generated after the ends of the mode of backup and recovery for ARC files more a couple, depending on the activity of update to the source. If using a spfile, originally executed 'create a spfile pfile=/.../initSID.ora;' scp this file to the new host, adjust as required.

Maybe you'll want to change DB_NAME, then the '... The DATABASE VALUE... "part of the controlfile create is necessary. Updated the SERVICE_NAME and if using LOCAL_LISTENER adjust the host = properly.

If the directory paths are all the same, it is even easier. And if the are not, path names can be corrected in the script of create controlfile.

  • Move the database on the DSO from one server to the other in AIX

    Hello

We have a project to move a Database (11.2.0.2) in ASM (stand-alone IM 11.2.0.4) in AIX. I followed the steps, but it failed.

    1. on the source server, I stop the database and removed the data DISKGROUP. I also took the diskgroup backup metadata before going down it.

2 storage team has removed the mapping of the discs and they remapped to the new server. However, the names of disks have changed
Note: There is no oracleasm and the drive string used is/dev/rhdisk *. The number of disk changed in the new server. However, we have renamed these discs.

3 installed GI in silent mode with the "software only" option and then set up AP using roothas.pl.

    4. install Oracle database on the same level of patch from the source.

5 ASM set up using a small new disc using ASMCA in silent mode.

    6. after the configuration of ASM, I don't see the Diskgroup database, but I see the drives as CANDIDATE disks.

    7. now, I restored the metadata from backup I took in the first step.

8 Diskgroup appears and mounted. However, there is no data. All the data disappeared.

Please can anyone suggest what I missed? Support for Oracle is not clear in its instructions.

It's test database, so we could afford to lose the data. We cannot follow duplicate RMAN that our Production database is very large, and all backups are in bands. We also long downtime. Therefore, the only option we have is to physically move the LUNS.

In my opinion, ASM has not read the header information of disk that LUNS are mapped before ASM is configured and consider them as CANDIDATE disks. Please specify.

    Thank you

    Vikas

ASM devices that belong to a disk group contain the header special ASM data, that ASM uses to identify the disks. The path of unity or the name of the device as such is irrelevant. ASM must know the chain drive in order to locate the devices. I do not know what has been mapped or put in correspondence, but if the disks appear as candidate ASM disks, then information should have been erased in the process.

Why not simply create a full database backup using RMAN and then restore and recover the database on the new server? Provided that the new server has the same software and ASM starts, this should be easy.

  • Move the database as part of the Oracle 12 c upgrade files

    Hello

I read the document upgrade Oracle for the database Oracle 12 c.

    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E16655_01/server.121/e17642/upgrade.htm#CHDJJJEE

Here in DBUA, step 8 says that

Move database files in the page, select an option:

    • Move database as part of the upgrade files
    • Move the quick recovery as part of the upgrade area

I wonder why we never need to use this feature to move database files?

I understand for FRA, it will define just the parameters DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST and DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE parameters to initialize at the new location and size new startup of the new home of Oracle database. But why never use us animated here database files option?

    Thank you

    Delphine

There is no requirement to move the database as part of the upgrade files. It is simply provided as an option

  • Move the database on its own server Vcenter 4

My current Vcenter Server 4.0 has the Vcenter Server and database SQL 2005 on the same computer. My performance is EXTREMELY slow, as in there more than 15 minutes for the client to connect, Vsphere load inventory and discover plugins until I'm able to use it. Once loaded, clicking on the servers and things within the client is very slow. So I think that by moving the database of its own machine, it will increase the performance of the vcenter server. I was looking in the vcenter admin section, and I can't find a way to 'clear' to tell him to look for the database on a different server.

Does anyone have any documentation on how to move the vcenter database to another server?

    Thank you!

  • What is the best way to move the data from the app and Server data structures?

    Hi guys,.

I developed my application locally with Apex 4.2 and Oracle 11 g XE on Windows 7. Not far away, it is time to move the application to a server Oracle Apex. I guess that Exim is the way to go app. But what about the APA tables and data (tables/as 'customer' and 'account' created specially for the application)? I've been using a modeling tool, so I can run a DDL script to create the database server data structures. What is the best way to move the application data on the server? Is it possible to move the structures and data in a single process?

    Thank you
    Kim

There is probably another way to get here, but in Developer SQL, on the navigation tree, expand objects until your table, right-click, and then click EXPORT... you will see all the options. It is a tedious process and it sucks IMO, but yes, it works. This is zero especially because 1) it's a table at a time, 2) If your data model is robust and has constraints and sequences and triggers, then you will need to disable all for the insert and we hope you can re-enable constraints, etc. without hitch (good luck, unless you have only a handful of tables)

I prefer to use the oracle EXP command-line to export an entire schema, then the server target, I use IMP to import the schema. In this way, it is almost true. This makes the dirty life if you develop multiple applications in a single schema, and I felt pain - however - it is much easier to drop the tables and other objects is to create them! (thus, even if the process of EXP/IMP moved more than you wanted to "move".. blow everything you don't want on the target after the fact...)

You can use method datapump oracle too.

If not, what can be done, IF you have access to both servers of your instance of SQL developer (or if you can tnsping both already from the command line, you can use SQL * MORE), is to run a script that will identify the objects of your applications apex (usually by the prefix for the names of objects, such as % EBA_PROJ_ etc.) and do all the manual work for you. I've created a script that does just that so that I can pass data from dev to prod servers on a dblink. It is difficult because of the order that must be executed to disable constraints and then turn it back on and of course, more complicated if don't always precede you ALL your "objects demand '... (tables, views, triggers, sequences, functions, procs, indexes, etc.)

  • Move the data files in a server

    Hello

I am faced with the situation that a customer needs to move their 10 g-server instance, i.e. to a different disk subsystem, and then a similar movement will be on the 11g on the same server instance. The problem is that the downtime on the instances should be minimized.

My plan is (for a tablespace at a time):
    * make the tablespace read only
    * Copy data files to the new location
    * offline tablespace
    * alter tablespace rename datafile 'original file name' to 'new file name ";
on the line the tablespace read write
and when it is, I will continue with the journal, tablespace and control files temporary.

Now to the twist and my question: the customer has separate tablespaces for tables and indexes.
My concern is what is happening to the index if the tablespace containing these are read-only, and storage with the tables are read/write? The transaction fails, because the index cannot be updated, or the index will become damaged?

Am I better off marking the tables and index tablespaces read only at the same time, ensure the integrity of the database? Or is there a completely different and way better to travel?

The system is running on a Redhat server.

That said, if I have understood correctly, you want to move the database and the 'clone' on the new server. Is this right? If so why not make the backup of the 10g database and use it to create a clone/copy of the database on the new server?

  • How to move the tablespace SYSAUX ASM file system when the database is opened?

    OS: RHEL 5.9 with UEK

Database version: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64 bit Production

On a stand-alone server network infrastructure.

According to me, that if I put the database in montage mode or disconnect SYSAUX, I can move the ASM filesystem SYSAUX tablespace by issuing the following instructions:

    • format of backup as copy tablespace SYSAUX "+ SYSTEM";
    • tablespace SYSAUX switch copy;

But I want to know how I can move the ASM filesystem SYSAUX tablespace when the database is opened.

Yes it is possible and all you need to do is the following (you need not move node 1):

-Install the operating system on the new server + pre - req packages and OS software

    -Preclone run on node 2

-Termination of the application on node 2 and copy the files to the new node

-Postclone run on the new node

  • move the primary database files to another location

    Hi all

I move the files of my primary database to another location on the same server, but on a different drive (from f: to G :) with rename comand but file name will be the same, after you have moved the files what step I need to perfom on standby DB will have on my database pending?)

This doc is everything after you rename the primary file, I'm not rename all the files I need to just move file from one place to another without changing the file name.

I hope you know how to move files from one place to the other on the primary database. It's not just copying the files from one disk to another and then to go to the top of your database.

You rename your data files or copy it to another location, how the controlfile to know you have copied/renamed to a different location?

I guess you 1 to ask the question of how to move files to a different location in primary education and then move on standby.

    Steps to follow:
1 Hope you brought your primary database.
2 copy the datafiels to one disk to another.
    3. attach the primary database.
4 rename all data files that you moved to this control file would know the changes.
    SQL > alter rename file 'G:\oracle\user01.dbf' to 'F:\oracle\user01.dbf ';
    5. subsequently open the database.
Refer this to move data files from one place to another http://www.orafaq.com/wiki/Move_datafile_to_different_location, http://www.adp-gmbh.ch/ora/admin/move_datafiles.html

    on autonomy in standby:
    1 cancel the MRP
    2. change the db_file_name_convert to point to «F:\»... »
    3. Mount the backup database
    4. start the MRP

Hope that these steps are clear.

Depends on what version of EM... Control of grid or dbcontrol.

If each db will have its own dbcontrol dbcontrol, and these will be each must be configured to run on their own ports. This isn't a listener question but target a web page. Learn more about using emctl to delete and re-create the repositories and configurations. When you create the dbcontrol, he will choose a port open in a defined range, then you should not take specific steps to keep them separate. When the configuration is created, it will signal you the url (including port) to use for that specific control.

    Can someone help me please?

The target and duplicate database cannot have the same ID duplicate so is not what you need. If you have FOO database on a server and want to copy to FOO on server B, with a different file structure, then simply copy the RMAN backupsets to Server B, and restore the database by renaming the data files. There are many examples on the web.
