Move the database to vCenter

Hello

I needed to move the database to SQL vCenter Server 2008 R2 Express install locally on the server vCenter Server SQL 2012 full.  I moved and follow the instructions of this VMware KB: migrating the database from the SQL Express vCenter server to full SQL Server

When I start the vCenter service, I get this error in the log vpxd:

"2014 02-28 T 15: 25:49.928 - 05:00 [info 03588"Default"] is DB 5 ' 50 point registry value" ".

Any who have seen this kind of problem before?

Thank you.

I finally did.

The 1 in \VMware VirtualCenter\DB HKLM\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc. key must have the same name as provided in the DSN settings and not the type of driver used.

I used VMware vCenter under the name of the ODBC connection, so I had to give the same name in the registry and the service started

Thanks for you help Madmax01!

    Hello

I read the document upgrade Oracle for the database Oracle 12 c.

Here in DBUA, step 8 says that

Move database files in the page, select an option:

    • Move database as part of the upgrade files
    • Move the quick recovery as part of the upgrade area

I wonder why we never need to use this feature to move database files?

I understand for FRA, it will define just the parameters DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST and DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE parameters to initialize at the new location and size new startup of the new home of Oracle database. But why never use us animated here database files option?

There is no requirement to move the database as part of the upgrade files. It is simply provided as an option

  • Move the database on its own server Vcenter 4

My current Vcenter Server 4.0 has the Vcenter Server and database SQL 2005 on the same computer. My performance is EXTREMELY slow, as in there more than 15 minutes for the client to connect, Vsphere load inventory and discover plugins until I'm able to use it. Once loaded, clicking on the servers and things within the client is very slow. So I think that by moving the database of its own machine, it will increase the performance of the vcenter server. I was looking in the vcenter admin section, and I can't find a way to 'clear' to tell him to look for the database on a different server.

Does anyone have any documentation on how to move the vcenter database to another server?

    Thank you!

  • Should I really need to move the database on the upgrade to vcenter

I have vcenter on 32-bit, windows 2003 and installing vcenter 4.1 I had to migrate the database to the new windows x 64 environment.
Cool, I installed a new windows 2008 x 64 STD, vcenter 4.1 installation on top is OK. (default installations)
I have 2 ESX server in a cluster running in HA mode.

    Here's my question.

    1. what happens if I have used to migrate the database and disconnect the 2 ESX hosts and reconnect on new vcenter?
2 would be my (NICs, HA confiscation etc.) configurations automatically moved to new vcenter if I'm not going to migrate from the old database?

No, this config resides in each host, not on the vCenter database.

  • Move the database for VirtualCenter of SQL Express to SQL 2008 on another server

    Hi all

First of all, I spent some time trying to figure how to move our current VirtualCenter database to our production (currently the DB is stored on the server using SQL Express real VirtualCenter) SQL server. Before any way suggests the obvious, I searched the VMware knowledge base and tried to follow the steps in the following KB:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 7960893

I have successfully completed the first 2 steps, but when I see the data source in the ODBC Administrator, I don't see anything (I have connected with each account who has already logged on to this server just in case). To work around this problem, I tried everything simply create a new DSN pointing to the new SQL Server. I even modified registry settings in order to force him to watch the new SQL Server. Despite this, I can not start the VirtualCenter service because it does not connect to the new database. When I reinstall the database local, everything is good.

I did much research on similar questions, but not once I saw someone mention that no data source was present. I don't know if this was due to an option selected during initial installation or anything else.

We are currently running version 4.0.0 vCenter. Any help would be amazing!

    Thanks in advance

    Dean

Is your operating system 64 bit or 32 bit - because it affects the DSN, you see:

To work around this problem, use the appropriate version of the ODBC Administrator tool. If you build and then run an application as a 32-bit application on a 64 bit system, you must create the ODBC data source using the ODBC Administrator in % windir%\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe. To indicate the type of DSN, you can add '_32' to the user 32-bit DSN and "_64" to the 64-bit DSN user.

  • Move the database on the DSO from one server to the other in AIX

    Hello

We have a project to move a Database (11.2.0.2) in ASM (stand-alone IM 11.2.0.4) in AIX. I followed the steps, but it failed.

    1. on the source server, I stop the database and removed the data DISKGROUP. I also took the diskgroup backup metadata before going down it.

2 storage team has removed the mapping of the discs and they remapped to the new server. However, the names of disks have changed
Note: There is no oracleasm and the drive string used is/dev/rhdisk *. The number of disk changed in the new server. However, we have renamed these discs.

3 installed GI in silent mode with the "software only" option and then set up AP using roothas.pl.

    4. install Oracle database on the same level of patch from the source.

5 ASM set up using a small new disc using ASMCA in silent mode.

    6. after the configuration of ASM, I don't see the Diskgroup database, but I see the drives as CANDIDATE disks.

    7. now, I restored the metadata from backup I took in the first step.

8 Diskgroup appears and mounted. However, there is no data. All the data disappeared.

Please can anyone suggest what I missed? Support for Oracle is not clear in its instructions.

It's test database, so we could afford to lose the data. We cannot follow duplicate RMAN that our Production database is very large, and all backups are in bands. We also long downtime. Therefore, the only option we have is to physically move the LUNS.

In my opinion, ASM has not read the header information of disk that LUNS are mapped before ASM is configured and consider them as CANDIDATE disks. Please specify.

    Thank you

    Vikas

ASM devices that belong to a disk group contain the header special ASM data, that ASM uses to identify the disks. The path of unity or the name of the device as such is irrelevant. ASM must know the chain drive in order to locate the devices. I do not know what has been mapped or put in correspondence, but if the disks appear as candidate ASM disks, then information should have been erased in the process.

Why not simply create a full database backup using RMAN and then restore and recover the database on the new server? Provided that the new server has the same software and ASM starts, this should be easy.

  • Move the database on new server

I've hava on Solaris 10.5 10.2.0.1.0 Oracle and wants to move to Oracle 11.1.0.1.7 on the same platform, but another server using exp/IMP.

I'm not aware of any other precondiction that I need to meet previously on this exp/emp. If there is a prerequisite, I'd appreciate if you can share it.

    The database must stop
I have to copy all the files from the old database

    Here is my file by:
    UserID = system / *.
    file = /h/share/database/db/backups/CBEXP.dmp
    Journal = /h/share/database/db/backups/CBEXP.log
    Statistics = none
    Full = y

    Albert Zaza wrote:

The new database (11.1.0.0.7) will take the same format as old (10.2.1) and thus exp and experienced will do the job.

No, in fact old exp/imp in 11g is not supported.

So I have to create a 10.2.0 of databases, import the dump files. When all is done, I can only upgrade to 11g

I do not understand you now, you actually have the database in 10.2.0 so take logical backup using expdp and create the new database 11 g then import it.

  • Move the database to the server running Oracle 11 G to the server running Oracle 12 c

I'm trying to find the best way to migrate a database to a server that is running Oracle 11 G on a server that is running Oracle 12 c.

I tried using the RMAN duplicate command of database but have run in many too many problems when you try to configure both servers before running the command duplicate.  If someone could provide some guidelines on configuring two servers of the RMAN Duplicate command clearly then that would be great.  The other thing, I've tried makes a cold backup of all files for the database (data files, control files, etc.).  Copy them to the new server, and then re-create the control file to include the correct location and names for the data files and the redologs.  After you re-create the database control file does not start.  I suspect that it is because of differences in version.

If you can provide me with claire (ie. migration for Dummies) instructions to get one of these methods of work, it would be greatly appreciated.  I am also open to any other method you can think of to achieve what I'm trying to accomplish.

    Thank you

    Paul,

Please, go to the PDF below he explains the process of upgrading.

You can create all the tablepsaces and then use utility Import/export where the directory paths are different

  • move the database

    Hello
The partition "H:\. "that hosts the Oracle database and data files is almost complete now. The administrator is planing to close the database,
Rename H:\ to I:\ partition and add the disk and create the new larger partition and name H:. Then copy all data files to this new partition
    with the same paths.
Will this work? any questions that he might face?

    Thank you

We use the unix-based system. We have taken the backup of $ORACLE_HOME and after the activity just restore the location again. Restore data files, redo log files and files of control for the desired mount point. Start the database and worked.

Related Oracle files won't be a problem.

We do not re - install the database.

Yes, your copy / paste will work. In your case just take a cold backup of your database.

  • Move the database ViewComposer and ViewEvents

    Hello

I would like to move databases viewcomposer and viewevents from one database server to another database server.

Is there a best practice that.

    Thanks for the reply.

From my experience, this has been really simply.  Just stop services on View compose, backup of data, restore to different SQL server and finally change your ODBC on the view composer server to point to the new SQL Server.   Events DB is really the same thing and you just have to show up in the new SQL Server in the configuration page located in the administration of the view portal.

  • Choice of the database for vCenter Server 5 install on Windows Server 2003

    Hi all.

We have an environment of health care small assisted living with a dozen sites/servers.

A server has 3 VMw4 vms on it.

We received two new servers each with ESXi installed 5. They will host several virtual machines of Windows Server for most of the migration of the current VMw4.

I want to install vCenter Server 5 to manage.

My book of VMware by Lowe, he mentions that the provided SqlExp08 is fine for 5 guests and 50 virtual machines.

Us will never get more than that, probably.

However, the server I want to install vCSrv5 on already has installed some Sql05 and Sql08 in use by other applications.

These applications will be migrated to our new virtual machines later with their respective db.

    My questions are:

    (1) should I install vCSrv5 and use the provided SqlExp08 and just let it go at that? Should the PB is on another drive or should she be on a different server?

    (2) can I install using an instance of Sql05 or Sql08 that is already installed?

I'm not sure about the impacts later when I migrate the few applications that currently use Sql05/Sql08.

I'm not a DBA, but a dedicated database would seem to be the best.

Do not forget that once our virtual machines installed vCSrv5 probably make much since most of the features are for large environments with multiple virtual machines.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance.

The VM 5 host 50 thing is not applied hard.

If you use the DB delivered, it will be on the same machine as the CV.

Also a database dedicated to VC is the preferred option.

  • The upgrade to vCenter Server to vCenter Server 5.1 5.1 update 1 when the SQL database is remote and vCenter Server Heartbeat is installed

    Hi guys,.

I'm in the middle of an upgrade to vSphere 5.1 5.1 vSphere update 1. I have vCenter protected by HB and SQL on a separate computer (also protected by HB) I also run Syslog, Update Manager and Proxy authentication on vCenter.

I've successfully upgraded HB on all 4 nodes (2 x vCenter & 2 x SQL) and started the upgrade components on the secondary according to the •vCenter Server Heartbeat 6.5 server and vCenter Update 1 Installation on Windows Server 2008 when the secondary server is virtual (PDF) http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vcenter-server-heartbeat-65-u1-installation-windows-2008-virtual-guide.pdf

    I got to step 3.c

    3. change the primary/active server role:

a launch of the vCenter Server Heartbeat wizard configure server and click the tab of the Machine to change the server role for the current server (primary) to the active State and click Finish.

b using the Service Control Manager, start the Server Heartbeat of VMware vCenter service.

c using the vCenter Server Heartbeat Console, check that all the status icons on the server: summary page are green indicating that the boot process is completed and protected from all the services are started.

d using the Service Control Manager, stop the service Server Heartbeat of VMware vCenter.

As the vCenter service does not start, I'm stuck at this point. As far as I'm concerned, the error is quite logical. I've updated vCenter using the secondary server, and then I'm trying to connect (according to the guide) with another version that breaks down.

If I continue with the services stop and launch the installer SSO, it is trying to perform an uninstall!

Did I miss something in this upgrade?

Hi guys, VMware have finally updated the documentation to reflect the right way forward: https://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/heartbeat_pubs.html U1 6.5 Select from the menu drop-down and you'll see the last date of update for each of the documentation is now 10/10/2013. The guide States now specifically to restore the vCenter database before proceeding with any other measure, this is copied below for convenience: "the upgrade of the main server of the upgrade process further guess upgrading the secondary server completed successfully. Procedure 1 before continuing the upgrade process, perform a restore of the database of vCenter Server, Single Sign-On database, VMware Update Manager database and SSL certificates that were backed up in step 4 on the secondary server. regards Ciaran

  • Running PowerCLI scripting against vCenter occupies space of database in vCenter?

    Hi all

Someone can confirm, running or collecting data using PowerCLI against vCenter occupy or use vCenter database space?

Some commands (generally the things which create, modify (including the power on/off/suspend/move/run, etc.). or remove) will create event entries will be stored in the database of vCenter. Others who may are Connect-VIServer can also register an event. The "Get" cmdlets will not create entered events

You can identify those who have the VI Client open and see if the script causes all events appear in the lower pane or by running Get-VIEvent on the vCenter server after your script is run (search for events based on the username)
