• How can I move the public folders default location to a new drive?

  I'll put up a brand new machine with Windows 7 pre-installed and a big 500 GB hard drive.  I partitioned the drive into 2 logical drives C: and E:

  Wherever possible I want to store all user data on E: (I know is not possible for all the parameters of the user to move - mores the pity).  I have not yet copied across all the data from my old machine so I just empty folders to play with at the moment.  I moved all the My Documents/pictures/etc files for the e: drive by changing the location in the properties of the folder.

  However, I can't do the same with public folders.  If I right click on the folder, click Properties, then location, it's like I can't change C:\Users\Public\... but it does not change

  No idea why, or how I can get around this?

  This is possible thanks to a Directory junction that can redirect to a new location of the Public folder.

  First create a new folder on E:\ and maybe you want to call it Public.

  Go to Cmd prompt as administrator.

  All copy existing public folders to the new folder created using the command
  Robocopy /MIR %Systemdrive%\Users\Public E:\Public     (or any name that you used for public folders on E :)

  You need robocopy as he takes care of hidden files, etc., especially if you have the recorded TV folder in public folders.

  Once the copy is transferred, you must delete the existing public folder and create a junction in his place. To do this, boot into Safe Mode as an administrator and remove the public content and file inviting again by running Cmd as administrator. To remove the Public folder:

  RmDir /s /q %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Users\Public
  
  After creating the new folder location and remove the existing public folder, now is time to create a Directory junction of audiences with the following folders:

  Mklink /J %Systemdrive%\Users\Public E:\Public                         (or any name you named the folder opublic on E:\)

  for example: mklink /dC:\Users\Public E:\Public   

  Now, all that is intended for the original Public folder gets directed to the new location.

  I have configured my MacBook Pro to display several different offices, based on several types of work that I do. I'm having two problems: (1) get the apps in the dock to show only in the dock on specific and (2) workstations, get the files and folders to broadcast only on one specific office.

  Re: (1), I followed the instructions from Apple I found online, but all applications in the dock show in the dock on each other in all cases.

  Re: (2), I don't see a menu or option to specify desktop computers. They're showing on all my workstations, which isn't what I want.

  The Dock is the same, no matter what you are in office. It cannot be configured to display only the items to come on a computer desktop and other articles on others. It is similarly of the icons. An icon that you put on a desktop will appear in all work positions.

  Now you pouvez specify certain applications appear in specific jobs and this applies to the Finder as well so you can have icons of documents and folders appear on a single desktop computer. Other workstations will all show no icons. If you choose this option, you can then open a window to a folder on the desktop that has the Finder, and then move it to another office.

  Before Apple, desktops implemented, there are several utilities which enabled us to operate more as you want, but unfortunately, they are now gone.

  Make a bunch of audio files, placed in a folder on my desktop. Files initially sent to RealPlayer to burn, but when finished burning CD and went to read a CD, folder got seized by Media Player, 'Indexed' and disappeared from the office. I'm a relatively new computer user, and I need to learn more about file paths, how to view the path FULL of a file on my computer and how to type (create) full path when I need to. I don't like the way search works under Vista.   In vista, I could go to the folder default Favorites (and links, downloads etc.) and under properties, change their location.  This meant that I was able to have all my favorites on my E: drive and not lost somewhere inside c: This makes backups easier etc.

  So to rephrase the question how to win 7 and IE 8 use Favorites in e:\favorites rather than c:\users\xyz\favorites\

• Why can't nest folders or move documents into folders as soon as they are in iCloud?  What is the thing that escapes me?

  Use the Finder on Mac. Drag and drop. Copy and paste. Your choice. The changes will be synchronized to iCloud by car.

  iCloud.com has a limited feature set largely. It of a convenience thing and does all the file management features in iCloud drive.

  Got a new laptop with win 7 home premium pre-installed. Using the language of win 7... I have decreased the volume of HDD to 55 GB.  Made new simple volumes. I want all the data personal on E, so need to move user directories to E. No individually change the location tab on dozens of files, but in the world. If all new users, I create will have their user and docs folder on E from the gitgo.

  Under XP, I could just change the 'My Documents' link on each desktop, go to the e. * instead of c *. *, but with win7?

  As a Windows Home Server and most wise OS facilities, the system drive is isolated and a drive of 2 or 3 for everything else.  Get a problem? Just restore the system drive.

  In another forum, I found the instructions to move folders of users to another drive.
  You can follow the post here. This is attributed to Jimmie R. Houts.

  Article:
  You can move the entire folder C:\Users to another drive quite easily once windows is installed:

  1. Boot from the installation media and access the command prompt (I think you need to click on fix everything first)
  2. Use Robocopy to copy C:\Users to D:\Users: robocopy c:\Users d:\Users /mir /xj
     a. /mir says robocopy to mirror directories, this will copy all files and permissions
     b. /xj is very important, it means robocopy does not follow the points of junction. If you forget this, you will have a lot of trouble.
  3. Make sure that the files copied successfully
  4. Delete c:\Users
  5. Create the junction pointing d:\Users: mklink /d c:\Users d:\Users

  That's all. I used this process for Vista RTM with no problems.

  Here's an article that explains as well. Just use robocopy instead of xcopy as it does in the article in order to avoid possible ntfs permissions problems.

  Update: because I discovered the hard way, I thought I would mention also that if you plan on switching "Program Data", or "Program Files" with this method, you will be disappointed to know that everything works as expected, but the windows updates will install is no longer. I don't know if this problem has been fixed in Win 7.

  With the foregoing, it is not a Microsoft forum or Web site so you will have to use at your own risk. I also recommend to do a system restore point before making any changes in directories that you can then go back to a previous state.

  To resize the size of the column:
  1. you can resize the column by pointing the mouse on the name of the category.
  2. Once you can drag the slider to the right, double click it to get the optimal size.

• Please help to move the folders in PSE7

  I kept my folders and catalogue on my server for years without problems.

  So, I'm in the folder location.

  I select the ABC folder that contains pictures that are in the catalog and drag the ABC folder in folder 123.

  Then I'm left with two folders named ABC: one in its location of origin, but empty of its contents and a record 123 with the files.

  When I look in windows Explorer, ABC folder has been moved successfully to record 123.

  However, I always stayed with two records of ABC in the PSE folder location and one that contains actually

  the photos must be reconnected for the catalog to recognize.

  Please tell me that there is an easier way... I have thousands of pictures, that I need to move.

  Make a backup and restore, then local drive sound like it can solve the problem of the network volumes double in the catalog database.   I had not seen that tried it before, but I hope it works for you.

  Note that the PSE 8 fixed at least some cases of this bug.  Then you can try this:

  1. use the PSE 7 for backup.

  2. use the PSE 7 to restore to a local drive.

  3. use the PSE 7 to make a second backup.  This second backup will only contain if all goes well no references to your original network volumes.

  4. use the PES 9 to restore to your network volume, to a different folder than before.  This will put the folder catalog on the volume of your network (which I do not recommend as a permanent location).

  5 use the PES 9 file > catalog > order to move the folder of catalogue of your disk (highly recommended).

  6. run psedbtool to ensure that there is no volume network duplicate.

  In all this, be careful not to overwrite the existing files!

  Also, if you haven't already done so, I recommend this initial step before step 1:

  0 run "psedbtool - writeMetadata ' to get the metadata catalogue of PSE 7 correctly written in your photo files.   This will ensure that, if you end up not migrate to another program, you're more likely to remember your dates, captions, notes, ratings, keywords, and map/GPS locations.
