Moving Image plus external hard drive portable hard drive

I am not anything change in my system.  I use windows 7 and will continue.  No change in the elements version (10).  Please give me a step by step instructions on how to move my pictures from my hard drive to an external hard drive (it won't be a return to the top) but the primary locaton for my photos.  I'll keep the program items on my computer and when I want to work on my photos or download more pictures from my camera I'll connect the external hard disk.

My questions are to be read in your writing

When I drag and drop my photos I look at my pictures in the elements Organizer?

No, there are two ways to see your folders PSE11 and PSE12: I have PES 10 it would be the same?

By default, it's point of view "my images". It shows a simple list of all the files containing the images recorded in the catalog; the entire record of the last level, without the Organization of the tree. You may have missed (like many, many users... Yes I guess I certainly missed this cause I can not find even today) the window of 'Images' you get by clicking on the little yellow icon in the title bar of "my pictures". You will see all of your folders and subfolders, all your different disks. It is very close to the Windows Explorer folder view, and you can do most of what you would do in Solution Explorer.  This 'my images' am I looking at?  In windows 7 or when I'm in post-secondary education?  If in windows 7 and I watch 'my pictures' I don't see the yellow icon in the title bar of "my pictures" I don't see such a thing in the element in the Organizer either.

You will understand better if you take the time to play with the 'Photos' mode, where you can reduce or expand subfolders or do a right click to view 'show all files' when they are reduced.

  • Share a lightroom catalog - Does the catalog and images on external hard drive work?

I manage a small part of the flow of images overall of the client by updating their prescence web basis with new works and relabelling/download earlier works. I believe that this requires the catalogue and the library of images that will be hosted on an external hard drive that can travel between us two. We work both on PC with LR 5.3.

The workflow should look like this:

Customer uploads new images on external hard drive and import LR

    'ClientCatalog' is created

Flags of pickaxes and creates a Collection of those Picks

Hard disk is handed to me when I opened "ClientCatalog".

    Make changes suggested in pictures

    Add detailed tags and metadata

Download on various media sites, social and Web sites

return the drive to the customer

Is there a potential problem with this workflow? My assumption is that if everything is housed on the external hard drive, so there is no worries for the catalog with all updates. Can someone find out about potential problems, that I might have forgotten? Are there of "security protocols" you would add in to this workflow (not to mention that everythign on another hard disk mirroring) which would you suggest?

I came across this problem with my own catalog a few weeks ago. I plugged my external hard drive into a different USB port and everything was gone.

Not gone, just addressed. It can be re-addressed as required. I think that's enough on MacOs, to name the drive. Under Windows, the details vary depending on the version of the OS (Google for instructions), but it's for Win7:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/Windows7/HT/change-drive-letters-Windows-7.htm

and it's a good idea to assign a drive letter quite a bit more later in the alphabet, to restrict the possibility of ever finding this already taken letter. For example, it might be X: to HDD external , or P: for Plug in car, or anything that makes sense to you...

After having done this, the re-start of Lightroom and open the catalog, images will be at the first go in offline mode (previously used location not found). To get online, it will be necessary to re - browse the folder parent for all your image files, to reflect its new location under the new reference in car. That done, the location information of catalog for all images and subfolders located under this parent folder, automatically updated. If that parent does not appear in the list of records of LR, you right-click and choose "show Parent". Display LR then reorganizes to reflect this real hierarchy.

  • moving to an external hard drive images

I'm trying to drag my catalogs of ^ C ^ to my external hardrive in lightroom.  When the cursor is placed on the external hard drive, he turns to a circle do not allow me to do. I've done this process in that way before. Nobody knows what is happening. Why I can't drag and drop more?

I don't know, but I recommend that you use Lightroom to move photos from one disk to the other for this reason rare but catastrophic bug: moved the files in Lightroom 2/3 flat disappeared?

  • Problem moving iTunes to external hard drive

Hi my old laptop (works on Windows Vista) think that all my music is located on the way on my c: drive by default, in fact, all my music is on my external hard drive. I know how to change the path via the preferences on my hard drive, but how to import my music without creating a massive amount of duplicates? Thanks in advance for any help.

See make a library of portable split. If your library is in the standard layout and that you moved the folder media manually, then move the main iTunes folder to the root of the drive, put the inside and shift-Start iTunes media folder. This must be equivalent to a simple move of a portable library.

Otherwise, see this post - Re: iPod doesn't sync not all -advice on the reissue of links the library to the media outsourced. Ideally, you would set things in a provision of mobile as part of the same process to make sure that the library on external drive is ready to connect to any computer replacement. You should also backup to a second drive.

  • RAW files missing changes after moving to an external hard drive

Hi, I use lightroom 4 and I cleaned a part of my images on my laptop and then exported in JPEG files. My hard drive has started to fill up, so I moved all my files on raw on an external hard drive but now when I come back to make adjustments to these images it tells me that the file is missing. How the raw return file so that it shows the changes I made?

The changes should have been stored in the catalog file or in an XMP Sidecar file. Also moved the XMP Sidecar files. These XMP files can be marked as system files in OS X, and unless you have show system files (which, with OS X for that option and turn it you may need to use Terminal), and or display all files, Finder can hide on your part.

  • Moved files on external hard drive cannot find my changes in lightroom

    I use Lightroom 4 on a Mac.
I moved recently all my photos on an external hard drive, and nothing I've read yet could help move my images edited in Lightroom.

In lightroom, beside the heading folder I clicked on the + and added my external drive - it shows it's Green and alive.

All the pictures I had initially recorded on my Mac hard drive are now showing on external drive - good.

In lightroom, the subfolders in my Mac hard drive are now show with question marks that files are missing - who they are, because they are now on my external hard drive.

What is my problem, all the editing I did on these photos in lightroom before is now gone. How do the editing work I had done on these photos to appear on the external hard disk images? If I look at my pictures on the hard drive of the Mac, they show they have faded and disappeared, but it shows all my changes again on the photos. External hard disk, it shows the original version of the image with no changes made.

Note: I backed up my computer before moved me all my photos, so if I need to put them on hard drive on my mac, I am able to do.

    Update

I have solved my problem. If someone comes across the question I was trying hard, I suggest to try move the files from WITHIN lightroom.

Initially, I had used my OS to move my files to image on an external hard drive, by simply drag and drop. Lightroom was not able to keep the editing I did on these pictures after that that they were moved. I restored a backup on my Mac and place the files in their original location. Then within the lightroom program, I was able to move the folders from photo (with modifications) on my external hard drive.

  • How can I move my images on external hard drive?

I need to create a space on my portable hard drive. How can I move my images on an external hard drive? Terrified, I'll losse them or get the dreaded...? Help!

There is no need to be terriefied. The "dreaded"? "isn't so bad.

The best way to go about this is:

    (1) in Lr / Grid View / files Panel (left side) put all your image files under folder of one of their parents. If this is already the case, you can skip this step. To do this, just create a new folder and name it descriptive. Then drag-and - drop your image in addition to this newly created folder files. This will make all the image files subfolders in the folder of one of their parents.

    (2) close Lr. In the Finder of Mac / Win Explorer to move the newly created parent folder (wil together all its subfolders) on external hard drive you. This is important: Do not rename the files or change the structure of folder at this point.

    (3) Lr re - open. In the files Panel, you will see the | "dreaded" "? -don't panic! Right click (i.e. click the right - as opposed to left - button you rmouse) parent folder he that you created earlier and now shows the question mark and select . Navigate to the location of the folder on your external drive parent and select it. LR will find all subfolders on its own.

That's all there is to it.

PS: in fact the text is not . But the procedure is the same.

  • models of 5 and moving animation on external hard drive

I have a video project created at the FCC. I used a movement 5 for a text within the FCP model. I need to move on an external hard drive for a customer. I consolidated and moved the PCF files to the external drive, but the model came not during. Just the red screen with exclamation point. I guess it's a problem of linking somehow, but have been pulling my hair out trying to figure how to recover the text. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Animation models are separated from the material FCPX, effects and patterns. Look in your user/films/Motion models folder. You can copy it to the external hard drive, but it will need added to the model Motion record the new hosts. You will also need the fonts used.

  • Visualization of images on external hard drive via Photos app

Is it possible to view photos stored on an external hard drive through Photos app?  I want to use the slide show feature but don't want to import them on my mac every time I want to see photos of old (and consequently taken disk space).

I just saw that when I import a picture in the Photos app, each image takes place twice the amount of space on my drive hard because it "copy of the original file.  Rather than using a reference library, which, according to other threads, is ill advised, I had to use an external hard drive for storing images instead.

Photos is not a photo viewer - is a Photo Manager and deals only with photos that have been imported into its library - you can have your library on an external hard drive or a second library on an EHD or you can use a third party Slideshow software

  • Windows 7 and 8 image on external hard drive?

Hello, I currently have a laptop running Windows 7. I also have pictures of the system on an external hard drive. My question is though, do a backup of the laptop image a family members running windows 8 will be a problem?

I ask because I have seen recoveries to be very picky with the stuff, and I don't mean the image of Windows 8 for corrupt/crash one of my previous images of Windows 7.

Hard disk external, I have three images of Windows 7 already, work around the fact that my recovery like replace the old image with the new by simply adding something the image of the old file name. It's the drive that I would like to ask the new image of Windows 8.

    Thank you in advance.

I have Images of XP 2 machines and a Windows 7 machine. Did not an Image of my Windows 8 machine yet, but other work.

The Images of XP was done with Pascale since XP has no builtin imaging application. One belongs to my daughter, the other to a friend. I just recently restored one of the XP images.

  • Can I restore my laptop hard drive files that have been moved to my external hard drive (who subsequentally has stopped working)?

I cut and pasted and then a few important files from my laptop on an external hard drive. Since the external hard drive stopped working. Is it possible to find the files that have been moved?

    Thank you!

(More info: I tried to recover the files from external hard disk but it requires a physical recovery and would cost over $ 1000, which I did not; also unfortunately I don't think I created backup via the "backup and Restore Center" files in the control panel).

It depends on how long you have moved the files, and how the computer has been used since.

If you have Vista Business, Ultimate or enterprise, you can use the previous versions.

  • How can I transfer images from external hard drive with the gateway settings to new computer?

I used to use Adobe Bridge on a computer that no longer works. My computer tech then made the hard drive of this computer on an external hard drive. Now I want to transfer all those images with all the settings, I applied them to my new computer. My new computer is a PC with Windows 7 and I run Adobe Creative Cloud on it.

Thanks for your reply. Where the xmp file?

It depends on your preferences settings. By default, Bridge is set to store metadata in an XMP file. This is the file that has the same name as the original, but it only use the extension ".xmp" instead of Raw file extension.

Bridge stores this file in the same folder as the original. If you use Bridge to move the files to another location it selects automatically the xmp files to travel with her.

If you use the view menu / show hidden files, you will see what Curt meant by XMP are hidden files, all have a document icon.

If you converted to DNG RAW format this data is written to the file itself, as is the case with other types of files such as jpeg and tiff, that can be managed by the cab.

You should be able to copy the whole folder to your new system or bridge to the old disk, select the file in the content panel and the use of the Control Panel folder to navigate to the new location and use drag and drop
