MS = drive C Critical Updates: help!

My C drive fills up with MS. updates I installed a new hard drive (2nd) to cope, but the default value of updates from MS C. technician told me that if I did a clean reinstall I could reformat my drives and change the letters, but he didn't tell me how to get around the master/slave settings , so I'm stuck on the old C drive at the moment, but several times I do a re-install.

The support technician then disappeared and changed his email for all other calls for assistance has rebounded.

Help.

I have so far spent a whole day to reinstall XP and am back to square 1 with an overloaded C drive and an empty D drive :(

Advice appreciated.

Thank you

Yes thank you Mike and all,

This is excellent news! -J' I always use this pc a lot and am very proud of the fact that I kept going for a dozen years now: there is nothing wrong with it and the addition of a modern with 10 x the storage HDD gave a new breath of life. I don't think I'm even complete turn on RAM yet! :-o

Thank you once again ;)

  • Win 7 64 bit USB ports is no longer conscious of external drives after "Critical update"

Just after that a windows update "Critical update" earlier this week, my PC stopped recognizing all drives connected to a USB port.  It no longer recognizes the external USB HARD disk and also it does not recognize the USB SD card reader.  This applies to both built-in PCI bus USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports ports.

The USB ports still acknowledge the keyboards, mice, cameras and other things, not storage.  If the same SD card is charged inside the camera, this card is visible when the USB cable is connected to the camera, but if I remove the SD card and load it with a USB card reader, it fails.

There are other symptoms such as slow boot times of VERY and VERY slowly closing times.    Any help appreciated.

    Windows 7 Pro 64 bit Intel X 33 chipset,

Update: this could have turned out to be that something damaged on the external hard drive that has affected only Windows 7.  This drive has been plugged in, not only was unreadable, it made the other disks unreadable USB on the Windows 7 machine. I plugged the drive in question on a XP machine and it worked fine.

Some time later, I plugged it Pluggable software component back to the Win7 machine and it pops up a message (the first time I saw it) that said, the drive was corrupt and had to be scanned to find errors. I clicked on OK and let it scan.  After the scan it reported "no problem not found on the device or disc. It is ready for use. "And as a result of this analysis, mysteriously, it started working again!

So now, the problem disappeared. I hope he doesn't, because I'm not really sure what fixed it.

  • HP CP1525n no longer work after "critical update" the driver.

My CP1525n worked very well, but I received an email from HP advising me of a necessary 'critical Upgrade'.  I installed it, and now my PC (Windows 7 32-bit) is not communicating with the printer.  I also have an error message whenever I log on saying that ToolboxFX is not working properly.  My printer is one week out of warranty, if HP won't talk to me.  Can anyone help?

    Hello

Thanks to all who offered suggestions for this problem.  I decided to go back to a restore point before installing the critical update of HPs, and now everything works fine again.  I agree with Bob, probably the best thing to do would be to uninstall and start over - but I hesitate to try providence - the printer now works fine and if it is not broke, why fix it?

I didn't understand quite what the critical update was all about, as I'm not on a public network (was someone will hack in and stuff print on my printer when I wasn't looking?), but usually I like to keep drivers updated etc, so is tied.

In any case, thanks to all

  • Dell Inspiron 1750, Windows 7: HL-DT-ST DVD +-RW GT10N not working after critical updates from MS

    I'm having a problem with my Player DVD - HL - DT - ST DVD +-RW GT10N.  I have a Dell Inspiron 1750, Windows 7.

It was working fine, then after 3 critical updates from MS, it stopped reading/writing on the DVD player.  The only way I can access the DVD (read or write) is to restart.  A subsequent loading of different or even the same DVD finished with the issue of not being able to recognize the DVD.

When I click on the properties of the DVD drive in Device Manager, it clocks.  However, after a reboot, the properties has worked well and said that the driver does not work properly.

I got to the period before 1st update was installed and the DVD player worked as before.  However, Ms. downloaded the same (I assume) updated critical shortly after.  Low and behold, the DVD player does not work yet.

The MS CD/DVD patch could not fix.

I also tried UpperFilters/LowerFilters regedit deletions, but it is impossible to find these entries (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116 > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}).  Thank you Osprey4 for your help continues.

I hope someone can help me.

    Thank you

    Duane.

  • HP Pavilion s3242xPC-unable to download critical updates

This Board is my last attempt to get assistance.  Frustrated and angry that I had NO productive help with Tech Tech online or by phone.  Seems "no" can help.  12: 00, the phone yesterday, only to be told that their volume is extremely high due to existing problems with this PC.  I was offered the possibility of a specialized Tech 1 x support service for $154.

I came to realize that even though I used centers HP Total Care Advisor, Heath & help PC, information is useless for me as I am unable to download/install the critical updates.  I have a huge list of all the glitches, updates, patches, etc.  This unit is a little over 1 year old.  Yesterday I discovered that the warranty has been extended until February 2011, because HP recognizes the serious problems.  But "what to do" when 'tools' do not work?

Although I made the backup/recovery discs... they did not work.  I lost, documents, photos and news accounts.  For the love of Christmas (tis the season), please, someone direct me as to what my options are.

Thank you & merry Christmas, happy holidays to all!

OK now I know that you have this motherboard specific hematite which, in case of a problem with a HP-lack of start-up or non-video, can replace the motherboard for you.

I have seen it happen before.

But if there is no problem it's good.

    One last thing.

This update of the NVIDIA graphics driver can sometimes cause a blue screen to turn off the pc unexpectedly and after a few tries, it passes through. This happpens, sometimes even in a normal pc.

Make sure that you install this update separately by itself to avoid problems.

Altrnatively you can directly download the update manually from hp.com. It's the same exact update.

    It's here.

    Step 2:

Put the computer in a clean boot state, and check if that helps.

How to solve the problem by running the clean boot in Windows Vista and Windows 7:

Note: Once you have completed troubleshooting, perform the steps in the step 7: to reset the computer as usual.

    Method 3:

Check the installation update and try to remove the updates that you installed recently and then try to remove it and check if it helps.

    Remove an update:

Well, you can try to manually install the KB2936068 and KB2964358 but the chances are that neither allows to install since KB2925418 is not listed in Add/Remove programs.

    Hi GeraldRichter,

You can try the following steps and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

You can try to reset the Windows update components and check if you can install the updates.

How to reset the Windows Update components?

    Method 2:

If the problem persists, then put the computer in a clean boot state and check if you can install

A clean boot to check if startup item or services to third-party application is causing this issue.

You can check the article to put the computer in a clean boot:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows XP:

Note: Make sure that you put the computer to a Normal startup once you have completed troubleshooting.

Method 3: Try manually install updates from Microsoft Download Center in the clean boot state.

    a. visit the Microsoft Download Web site.

    b. enter the number in the search field and press enter.

    c. double-click on the downloaded file.

    d. you can either click run to start the installation, or you can click on Save and save it on the desktop and start the installation after the update is completely downloaded.
