Critical updates KB981715 & KB981433; Error code 80070641 (unknown error)

A few days ago had critical update notification, and an optional update.  Installation failed several times on updates critical, but accepted the optional (chosen by himself).  Tried a manual installation of one of the critical updates of the website was updated with the same result.  Just today, I update my Dell laptop and it took the 981715 (the other was not available).  I use only the laptop from time to time.

Nothing has changed on my system by me for quite a while.  Update history shows correctly updates (98 %+/-) since 10/04/10 & earlier, problems started 4/15.

My specific system config is:

Dell Inspiron 530; 2 CPU 4400 @ 2.00 Ghz

Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2, 32-bit

4.0 GB of memory

AV/Firewall: Norton 360 Version: 3.8.0.41

Browsers: I.e. Version: 8.0.6001.18904IC or Google Chrome 3.0.195.33

Start with these steps troubleshooting and post back with the results of troubleshooting.

Clean boot your PC, and then run Windows Update.

Reset the Windows Update components
