MS office on an older iMAc

I have an older iMac (late 2009) when I upgraded my MS office at El Capitan is no longer supported. I have to buy the new version of Office

You need to upgrade to Office 2008 or newer, or switch to a software as LibreOffice.

  • Problems with the compatibility of Lightroom 6CC and ElCapitan on older iMacs

When I upgraded to ElCapitan, Lightroom CC seems to continue to work without problem.  Then I did the first update and since then, I have not been able to use development module in the program.  I posted these problems on the Lightroom forums (see link below), but it is clearly an Apple problem, is not a problem of Lightroom. Lightroom people think it's the graphics processor in the older iMac which poses problem, but as I said above, it happened on the first update, not on the initial installation.  There is now another update on hold, and I fear that other programs will no longer work.  Apple made contact with Lightroom on those very real inconsistencies and what is their consensus?  This is a serious problem for a person using an older iMac and photo editing using Adoble products.  For a fuller discussion, please see the link below for the Lightroom Forum (information was also posted on the Forum from Adobe).

Information on my version of Lightroom and my computer are in posts on the forum.

Should I worry about several incompatibilities with the new pending upgrade to El Capitan?

FWIW, iMac 24 "early 2009 may have at least 512 KB of VRAM (typical models

only had 256 K).  The specification of Lightroom CC, minimum is 1 GB of VRAM.

Operation on this machine was borderline at best and probably just lucky it worked at all.

In addition, a huge impact on the works of Lightroom is the amount of RAM installed.  With

El Capitan installed, try to run Lightroom CC with anything less than 8 GB will be

issue (despite what can say Adobe).

  • New Office 2011 & Webroot Desktop iMac and MacBook Pro

OK, we have a macbook pro that we run MicrosoftOffice 2011.

We have now bought an iMac of office.  We cannot add our 2011 buy microsoft office version for the iMac (only good for a laptop or personal computer).  I need something like office 2011 for the new office.

I know there was a lot of changes there on the software on what we can and can't do...

What are the best options for going forward so I can get microsoft office 2011 or something like that, for the new office.

Also the store 'gave us"webroot and said we really, really need to have that on our desk.  I am not of this opinion.  Does anyone else have an opinion?

Whatever your question has to do with Boot Camp?

If you have Office for Mac questions you can ask your question in the Office for Mac forums where the Office of the Mac gurus hang out.

If you have an iMac problem you could try asking the community of iMac located here: iMac

If you are looking for just an Office program, you can try LibreOffice.

You don't need or want all third-party antivirus or programs of 'cleaning up' on your Apple computer.

  • El Capitan on older iMac

I have an older iMac (mid-2009), who is currently running Yosemite and using Bootcamp to allow the operation of Windows 7.  Apparently, my iMac will not run Windows 8 or 10 under Bootcamp.  I want to upgrade my iMac to El Capitan, but I must also have Bootcamp.  I read somewhere that my iMac does not support this feature for me.  Anyone have experience or recommendations as to whether or not I should go to El Capitan?

    Thanks in advance... Dick

I have an iMac 2009 end running El Cap very well. BUT I have 16 GB of ram, people of the greatest error, especially people with the old Mac, make tries to run a modern operating system without enough ram. To run smoothly, you need at least 8 GB of ram, but I think you should have this Yosemite running too. Regarding which version of windows is supported I don't know, I use Parallels and Win 7.

  • Optimization for older iMac tips

I have a 2007 24 "iMac running Panther, because I need to keep some operational software.

I am familiar with my system optimization to help it run more efficiently, but wonder if anyone has some advice that I may have missed.

    ~ Kort

Hi Kort, my i - Mac (mid-2010, 21.5 inch model) is the latest of a few years and is able to run the current OS X. I understand your problem, but who need access to the older software. About 6 months ago I added 8 GB of RAM on my i - Mac for about US $100 per OWC. The price on the same cylinder is now less than half that much. I think it was a good improvement and noticed the improved performance on repetitive operations. My machine has brandi well otherwise, but expect the upgrade to a new machine in the next two years, because it has the features that this material will support (like AirPlay), and I hope that this trend will continue. Finally, I expect to be locked in one operating system that I won't be able to upgrade.

  • Cannot install Windows 10 from USB on older iMac

10.11.2 here on an end Quad Core iMac 2009 (11.1) running. Newly added THAT SSD has a GUID partition scheme. My Superdrive is problems, so I changed the file Info.plist of the Bootcamp Assistant to support my iMac by adding my model # for the readers of preusbsupported, removed the pre and added to my version of boot rom. He then began to create the Windows 10 ISO on the USB without problem. I then start the installation of Windows 7 Bootcamp and more. Once finished, I stop the iMac to be able to do a cold start system and use the startup key Option. I then started on the newly formed Stick Pen labeled EFI. I proceed with the beginning of the installation of Windows 10. However, when I get to the part where fault window to format the Bootcamp partition always reports back that 'Windows cannot be installed to this disk. Windows cannot be installed to GPT disks on EFI systems,'. So that's where I'm stuck. Can anyone shed light on this issue and if there is a solution for this? I appreciate it because I spent hours trying to fix without result! Thanks for your help!

Update: I have done experiments about the above issue and found that if I just let free unallocated space on the SSD for Windows 10 10 Windows install it reformatted and installation takes place. I wonder if the above question has something to do with firmware the in the 2009 end iMac? Anyway, the good news is that I finally got the USB Installer Windows 10 working on an older unsupported late 2009 27 "iMac. 10 Windows installed fine internal DVD drive for the iMac, but who went south so now I have an alternative!

  • where can I get a version of Lightroom 4 to install on an older iMac?

Of course, Adobe updates and is quick to date as possible.  All what I really need is a version of Lightroom (Lr 4?) which runs on a self-supporting iMac with OS 10.6 (snow leopard).  Is it possible to buy a download or obtain a disc or something that Adobe was kicking around on shelf in the Home Office.  (I wonder if there are such things as shelves in the office more?!)  It seems there are a few clouds).

    Download Photoshop Lightroom refer

    Hope this will help you.

  • Metal in an older iMac

This hard metal technology is related to later models of iMac (etc.)? My mid-2011 is not metal, but I wonder if it's something that can be installed. I want to play Obduction without having to buy a new computer. With our thanks.

No, the metal is not something that can be installed, and even if it could, it would still not load on an incompatible Mac.
