MSE8000 with 2 blades of supervisor?

I was invited to do a check of the new potential customer and preliminary information indicates that they have two blades of supervisor in their MSE8000. I will access the system later this week, but I wonder if this is even supported or how a second supervisor would even work with or be able to manage the other cards in the chassis. The former team of Tandberg seen elsewhere or sold/advocated a solution like this in the past?

THX,

RF

Do not think that his support, although he "might work", but it means that you will have two blades followed management and maintenance of media licenses, backups, etc. through all installed blades that could cause problems.  Blades communicate via backplane under Cisco deliberated to try to confirm my blade was defective, I even installed the supervisor in slot 10 front blade ahead and RMA and it ran very well always extract data from the other blade chassis, so it will take place in any location and connect to the bottom of the chassis basket.  The supported method is that the top blade must be installed on the slot 1 of the MSE 8000, and only 1 is installed for a whole chassis MSE.

I doubt that TANDBERG would have filled two blades of supervisor, you get only one with a MSE 8000.

  • How do I move the UCS with OS blade on the local disks between chassis

    Hello

I have to move the blade between chassis - blade have OS installed on local disks and Associates profile.

    I can simply:

    Shutdown

    Enter the maintenance

    remove the chassis

Exchange with other blades of the second chassis

    power on

Blade are properly recognised and profile will go with it?

I found Advisor here it is best to unassign blade profile and partner back after removal:

    https://supportforums.Cisco.com/discussion/11230671/physically-move-Blad...

but it seems too complex for me - if someone who tired of this exercise can share some experiences?

    See you soon

    Hello

Assuming the frame belong to the same domain (even pair of fabric for interconnection) and you are using ESXi, try the following:

1 - Enter the host in maintenance mode (it can be move virtual machines to another server/power them off / take them into so maintenance mode)

    2. cut the blade

    3. ensure that the Service profile does not have a disc of scrub policy so that data is not deleted when the profile Service (SP) is ungrouped

    4 separate the SP

    5 decommissioning of the blade

6 - Remove the blade and insert the new blade

    7. move the second chassis original blade

8 - though the blade and an associate of the same/original SP

    9 powers on the blade

    10. take the server out of maintenance mode. as well as virtual machines

Note: For the blade inserted in the drive, that we released our blade, you can create a new SP and pair with it or you can actually have any MS (including that attributed to the recently released blade) and assign it to the new blade.

A single SP by sever and that one server per SP.

SPs are independent from the hardware (as long as the material is compatible with the functions set up by the PS)

I have the blade that is a M610. its current 3.30 iDRAC6 Firmware version (Build 17), his version of BIOS is 6.0.7. I am trying to upgrade the firmware to 3.50 iDRAC (Build 4). I am upradging by the MCC on the M1000e chassis. I choose the slot of in that the blade is and then start the IDRAC GUI. I choose firmware update and select the firming.imc file that I used successfully on some other M610 blades. After about 30 seconds, he returned with the following error.

The uploaded image has no verification

    Why?

I came across the same problem (with a refurb M610, iDRAC firmware has been 2.20).

I tried to upgrade the iDRAC6 firmware to 3.60 via the web interface of iDRAC6 and it was a no go.

I tried several browsers (chrome and firefox) and same problem each time.
I tried to go to firmware (as shown in the accompanying note) 2.31 instead of 3.60 and same question every time.

I finally managed to update the firmware of the iDRAC6 by upgrading the web interface M1000e and not in the iDRAC6 web interface.

It worked the first time (using Chrome).

  • Tips on Setup with 2 blades of Sun and San

    Hi all

Can you give me some advice with a new configuration: we lack a POC of VMware view, and we have 2 blades of Sun X 6250. The two are running ESX 3.5U3, but only one is connected to a San.

The first blade runs vCenter and VMware View and virtual machines. The other (connected to the San) runs the virtual desktop (XP)

This configuration is chosen only for budget reasons. We intend to connect to the second blade in the SAN, but it requires a switch of fiber optics and a HBA. But there is no budget for the time ;-(

Each blade has 2 NETWORK interface card and the two are connected. We have created a vSwitch; service console, the computer network, virtual and vmkernel. The two NIC is added to this vSwitch as active to spread the load.

Is it still a requirement for VMotion have a private NETWORK map, or can it be shared?

I thought it was possible to make a VMotion, while a virtual machine is running without shared storage? It is also possible with the vCenter running under VM? It would be nice for the correction.

    Any other tips or advice?

Thanks in advance. We appreciate it.

    Wouter

    Hello

But there is no budget for the time ;-(

We all know that this situation :-D

Each blade has 2 NETWORK interface card and the two are connected. We have created a vSwitch; service console, the computer network, virtual and vmkernel. > Is it still a requirement for VMotion have a private NETWORK card or can it be shared?

It may be shared, but the speed should be 1 GB

I thought it was possible to make a VMotion, while a virtual machine is running without shared storage?

    vMotion requires shared storage

It is also possible with the vCenter running under VM? It would be nice for the correction.

Yes vCenter can function as a virtual machine

    > Other tips or advice?

    • Add network cards if you can

    • You can change the order within the PortGroup when you access EPS

    PGs | COS | VMnet | vKernel + vMotion

HI Anthony - you can check on blade of supervisor itself under Network > DNS is a hostname listed here?  Name of your supervisor here if it is not listed, click Update DNS Configuration and force update TMS.  It appears with a system name in the TMS?  Let me know.  Thanks in advance.

  • UCS Plugin - How will I know if a blade is associated with related?

I use the Plugin UCS to associate a Service profile with a blade. When I do, the function call returns immediately. But I want to wait that the blade be associated before proceeding. How to figure out when the blade is made combining? The UcsmBlade.status parameter is not good, it returns without return Null.

A detailed example of a use case is described on the blog of vCO:

    http://blogs.VMware.com/Orchestrator/2011/04/sample-scenario-for-the-Cisco-UCS-Manager-plug-in.html

Step 3, 4 and 5 of this use case are:

3 assign the Service profile to a blade

    4. wait for the association must be true (the blade is going to be started)

5 do something else after that depending on the result (for example, send a notification to someone)

This should provide you with the information required to complete your use case.

    Thank you

    Igor.

  • High availability & Cluster size with blades

I am currently considering a VMWare infrastructure, which has been underway, thanks in large part to the members of this community. I came to design the AP and want to make sure that I understand the limitations that simultaneous failures host is concerned.

Imagine that I've implemented the following:

    • Two blade chassis each with 8 blades in them for a total of 16 guests

    • 16 guests are in a cluster with nodes primary two nodes that reside in a frame and three in the other

    • The requirements for HA are respected on each Blade (they have access to the same, shared storage virtual network configuration and DNS is correctly configured)

    • Lack of resources prevents all virtual machines running on 8 guests

Now, imagine a chassis and 8 guests fail at the same time. I have reason to think that only the virtual machines of four of these hosts failed successfully restarted with HA on the 8 remaining hosts in the second chassis? I based this assumption on the fact that since he cannot be there five main nodes in a cluster, no more than 4 may fail. Or it will be actually even less than that, because I maybe only two nodes of work on the chassis of the second?

If I change my set up consists of two groups of 8 guests each (4 in each chassis) am I right in thinking that I can now face the loss of a full chassis as each cluster will have only lost 4 hosts? Or will I still have problems because again, I can have only two nodes on the chassis of the work?

If the 8 host cluster is not elastic then it would seem that the majority of guests who may have a two-bladed chassis resilient, put in place is 4, which is rather limited.

I will of course test failure of a chassis together before putting anything in production on the environment some design I go for. If I disable a blade chassis, all 5 main nodes remain on the chassis of the second after the return of one? If yes then I would need obviously manually move them back after any loss of chassis (test or other).

Go, you're all good. As long as there is a single primary node alive somewhere it restarts everything. So until all 5 primaries are not in the same chassis, you're cool.

  • Licensing of Port on a MSE8000 can be converted to a virtual server of TP?

    I have a client with a MSE8000 with 80 port licenses and 2 x 8420 blades.

They would like to go virtual; is there a provision for transforming these port licenses screen for a telepresence virtual server licenses?

    Thank you

    David

The only way that you can convert the MCU licenses Telepresence license server is if you have a 5300 MCU series or MCU MSE 8510 blade, and it is through the process of installing the server TP on the MCU software, because the hardware can support.

  • cluster with telepresence Server 8710

    Hello

Currently, I want to deploy the client conference and here is the list that I bought for my client:

    -telepresence Server 8710 with 24 licenses x 2

    -MSE 8000

    -License CUCM

    -VCS license

    My questions are:

    1. from the Cisco documentation, I know that 2 of my server of telepresence could be clustered. 1 my server Teleprsence will be the master blade and the other will be the blade of the slave. By doing this, my server of telepresence is already grouped?

    2. I don't have a driver's license, but I know that this driver could manage 1 telepresence Server wethere that she is not allowed. I tried to manage my my server in cluster of telepresence, but he said that driver had 2 telepresence managed server. I thought that my number of clustered server of telepresence in 1 for conductor. Can someone explain this?

    3. what happened to the deployment guide if I want to use all my 24 licenses? From my understanding, 1 Telepresence Server Blade can only manage 12 licensing screen and cascade could not been since I couldn't do it as remotely managed. Help, please.

    Thank you.

Telepresence Server MSE 8710 installing blades are autonomous, it is not until you configure using the blade of supervisor MSE 8050 they will become a cluster.  See clustering on pg 90 of the Supervisor MSE 8050 Help Guide.  I don't know how a cluster server Telepresence would manage a conference which exceeded a unique ability of blades that was within the cluster, but according to the help guide of supervisor, it is said that the master blade could allocate licenses video port to the participants in the Conference that could be a big conference or several small conferences.  I would say, just create a conference and start adding in the participants and see what happens.

Looking at the conductor data sheet it is said that the Essentials (or the free version) can support '1' (independent), since a cluster behaves as a single server, but in reality it is more than 1 server it probably not supported.  The conductor Admin Guide on pg 17, it is confirmed that the free version of conductor does not support cluster conference bridges.  It seems that if you want to use with driver cluster conference bridges, you must at least move to select conductor (middle version), because the free version does not support.

If you use driver for some reason, you should be able to configure the 8710 blades runs remotely managed mode, I have several configured this way, but they are all autonomous blades, none is in a cluster.  Help server TelePresence MSE 8710 Mode guide managed remotely on the basis

Is there a particular reason that you must use a driver, why not use the blades of telepresence Server 8710 MSE mode managed locally in a cluster?  Help server TelePresence MSE 8710 Mode guide managed locally based

Hello.  I inherit a M1000e with few blades of the Force10 MXL switch installed.  The chassis has no other 10GBASE-T switches.  Since I have no plans on using FCoE, a Force10 MXL can be used for standard Ethernet (non-FCoE) traffic?  Or do I have to buy another switch?

Absolutely, to see the second page of the data sheet. It contains additional information about the available modules, how internal traffic is manipulated and external.
