Multiple LAN subnets on a single host

I don't know if I'm in the right group, but I consider this a matter of strategy in order to proceed to the implementation.  We are new to ESX but have completed the training.  We implement a solution in our datacenter networks customers host through SSN.  The question dividing the incoming traffic (for example, RDP and SMTP) for specific cards inside the host.  Keep in mind that there are several virtual machines with each of them with at least a NIC any guidance will be appreciated.

Thank you

German

For maximum flexibility, you must configure a vSwitch with multiple NICs (for load balancing and failover) that are attached to a trunk of VLAN (this PDF file can detail it more http://www.vmware.com/pdf/esx3_vlan_wp.pdf )

This will allow you to use the tagging VLAN that I talked about earlier and isolate the computer based virtual on the VLAN (subnet) that you are willing to reside on.

  • Problem with networking when having multiple virtual machines on a single host

    Since the implementation of ESX 3.5i server on PowerEdge 1850 Server I had network problems. It took a large upstream of the violin - do not do something specific - but finally I could persuate a VM to talk to the outside world.

    Virtual machines have always been able to ping other virtual machines and physical NETWORK card to the host (with a static IP address only), however with a bit of deactivation/activation etc I could possibly get it connected. I have exactly the same symptomsusing the two Windows XP and Redhat, both with VM Tools installed.

    If big, I can get the virtual machines connected, *however * every time I managed to connect a computer to the outside network, she will knock off either a return to the State where I can ping only the other VMs and Teddy.

    I tried them in different port groups as well as in different vSwitches with a separate Teddy, but exactly the same problem.

    I thought it was just my ignorance, however after thorough reading and wasting time trying different combinations, I started to think this is a hardware incompatibility or an ESX installation problem.

    Please please please, if someone can help solve the problem, or diagnose if my suspicions are correct.

    I enclose my last combination of configurations!

    Thanks in advance.

    Run 'show port-security' on the switch and see what you have.  You can also view the current configuration of the port connected to an esx.  A switch will remove any doubt relating to port config differences type.

  • IPSec tunnels between duplicate LAN subnets

    Hi all

    Please help to connect three sites with our Central site has all the resources for users, including internet access.

    The three sites will be the ASA 5505 like their WAN device.

    We need to know is - it possible, allowing to configure an IPsec Tunnel between the three ASA with duplicate LAN subnets.

    Central site two networks 192.168.1.x 24, 192.168.100.x 24

    Distance a 24 192.168.1.x subnet

    Two remote a subnet 192.168.100.x 24

    If it is possible we also do hair distance one ping, above two remote to the Central Site to access internet, what sites need are on the Central Site, including e-mail, network, other resource also records.

    We have no other way to make this network, as all security is on our Central Site, website filtering, Application filtering, filtering of network traffic all.

    We understand that we can change two remote sites to a different subnet from the Central Site, but we have so many host devices, it will take weeks or months, so to change the MS AD domain for all users, servers too.

    We really need your expertise to do this in a laboratory and then in production.

    Thank you

    Hello Stephen,

    You can check the following links for the subnets overlap talk to each other:-

    Important point is local network must connect to the remote network via the translated addresses.

    for example, you won't be ablt to use real IP of the communication.

    1. you need to share the environment if Windows or Linux?

    2. have you read or browsed https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25494/restart.htm#ADMIN12709

    Database instance

    Restart Oracle can accommodate multiple databases on a single host computer.

    3. you must have grid infrastructure in place

    4, you need efficient on the srvctl management policy which

    5. IF you are looking for with grid infra - Autostart on reboot of the operating system can

    / etc/oratab - example

    ORCL:/U01/app/Oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1:Y (this column provides information)

    DBSTART and dbshut provided by oracle, you can use

    Note: you must connect the kernel startup scripts

    Refer to: https://matthiashoys.wordpress.com/2012/04/20/automatically-start-oracle-11g-on-oracle-linux-6-2-after-server-reboot/ (demo)

    You must check the below

    Data management policy.

    • AUTOMATIC(default): the database is automatically restored to its previous state (started or stopped) running when the database host computer is restarted.
    • MANUAL: The database is never automatically restarted when you restart the database host computer. A MANUAL parameter does not prevent the Oracle Clusterware to monitoring of the database so that it is running and restarting if an error occurs.
    • NORESTART: From Oracle Database 11 g Release 2 (11.2.0.3), you can use the NORESTART value. Similar to the MANUAL setting, the database never automatically restarts after a restart of the database host computer. A NORESTART definition, however, never restarts the database even if a failure occurs.

    Note: do not confuse on instances, it would allow to manage with home alone.

  • Multiple Crypto cards on a single Interface of ASA

    Hello

    I work with a TAC support engineer, and while troubleshooting it suggests to assign two different cryptographic cards on a single interface.

    It is technically possible to have multiple Crypto maps on a single Interface ASA?

    PS: I know have several sequences in a single encryption card would work, but it is a case that I must address multiple Crypto maps on a single ASA.

    Hi Ali,

    The rule is by interface, a single card encryption is supported. You cannot assign more than one encryption on a single interface card.

    Documentation: -.
    "You can only assign a single encryption card defined on an interface. If multiple crypto map entries with the same name of card but a sequence number different, they are part of the same series and are applied to the interface. ASA first assesses the entry card crypto with sequence number low. »

  • All disks in a single host went from vSAN

    Hello

    I recently had a power cut at home. My 3 node cluster came back OK, but I noticed that the vSAN was missing lots of storage.

    After investigation, it seems that all the disks in a single host have been abandoned (all 4 were operating before the incident).

    I tried to reboot the host, but this has not solved the problems I encounter.

    My file server is unable to turn on because of that, I think it was resynchronize components during the power failure happened.

    Because I have data on these discs (my file server), I hesitate to re - install ESXi on the host or do something with the disks

    I am due to upgrade my version of 3 disc format, but that he was reluctant to do this either at the present time because of my data!

    Environment:

    - vCenter Server Appliance 6.0 U2 (build 3634794)

    -ESXi 6.0 Update 2 (build 3620759) on all hosts

    Please can someone advise on the measures I should then carry out?

    See below for information and some screenshots.

    Thank you

  • install vCSA single host and manage this host of "inside".

    Hello

    This is probably a stupid question, but I have found no reference or information about it:

    is it possible to install vCSA on a single host, which will be then handled by the same vCSA?

    background: there is only a single physical server available.

    are there disadvantages with such a configuration, and if there is, which could be problematic? same starting the server cannot, because it does not find the vCSA server to validate its license?

    I know that an update manager will not be usable, as the upgrade of the host, all virtual machines must be turned off and the host is in maintenance mode. This isn't a problem, as a manual upgrade of a single server is really easy.

    Best regards

    Mayr Oskar

    I agree with Gortee about the DVS, because that would be a factor limiting.  Since it is a single host it is useless to DVS anyway (unless you need the ability to scrutinize traffic in native mode).  I use the full vCenters blown on my main data centers, but I have a bunch runs exactly as you mentioned (about 60 sites with single host + VCSA + vStandard Switch).  No problems.  Good thing is that you can define the order of auto start since you do not HA.

  • Fault tolerance is possible within a single host?

    Fault tolerance is possible within a single host?

    My requirement is to create two virtual machines within a single host and high availability between these two VMs.

    You will not be able to fulfill this requirement through VMware FT, this feature requires a minimum of 2 host.  you'd have to consider third-party solutions to meet your specific needs

  • Can you have a cluster with a single host?

    Hello

    I'll put up a new VMware infrastructure, which includes a cluster with 2 guests in a place and a single ESX host in a second location.  They will all be managed by server unique vSphere.

    It is possible that the second site can earn an additional ESX host at some point in the future.  So, my question is if I have to create a cluster for the second site and have just the single host in it for now, so its ready if we add a second host?  Is it possible to have a cluster with a host, and what are the consequences of this?

    Thank you

    Joe

    Technically, Yes, you can have a Cluster to a single node and if you plan to add another node in the cluster later it makes sense to set up the first node.

    And, both from a technical point of view, but especially from a point of view BAU.  Mulitnode cluster promotion will be less intrusuve there is no additional software to add on the pre-existing main node, therefore you Board change will be less nervous about the piece of work, because it won't change the node pre - that does not exist.

    From a personal point of view my current client runs a number of single-node clusters, in their environment.

  • Upgrade of a single host with Shared Storage

    Getting ready to upgrade my ESX 3.5 hosts to vSphere.  I've already upgraded to vCenter.  I have two hosts managed by vSphere, and both hosts have a storage area of channel shared fiber that guests are on.  Each server can see all shared data stores.  I want to upgrade a single host first, then later upgrade the other host.  I've migrated the guests running to 2nd host whose I am not upgraded at the moment.

    My question is can I upgrade the first host using Update Manager?  What happens to guests in data warehouses that run on 2nd hosts?  Will they be affected?

    > My question is can I upgrade the first host using Update Manager?

    Yes.

    > What will happen to customers in data stores that run on 2nd hosts? Will they be affected?

    They will not be affected.

  • Multiple SOA clusters in a single domain

    Hi all

    We are looking at a scenario where there would be multiple SOA clusters in a single domain. Would it be possible to do? I mean I can create several cluster SOA, but it seems that applications deployed to one of the 2 clusters SOA seem to get into an inconsistent state. Please notify. Thank you.

    It's just because all SOA servers in a domain will refer to the SOAINFRA one (same) scheme for the info of SOA deployments and therefore belong to the same group (cluster) and this is the reason why you can't even two separate SOA managed without a cluster servers.

  • Several subnets on a single NETWORK adapter

    I have two subnets, I want to be able to use with my virtual machines on a server with 5.5 ESXi.  I have only a single NETWORK adapter that is available on the host.

    The VMkernel default Port, vmk0 is assigned the IP 10.208.82.34/29.  The default gateway is 10.208.82.33.  Can I add virtual network adapters to virtual machines and the ping without problem to a host outside the subnet 10.208.82.32/29.

    I created a second Port VMkernel, vmk1 and assigned the IP 10.108.65.38.  Then, I set up a second virtual NETWORK adapter inside a virtual machine with an IP address of 10.108.65.33.  I can't ping this new IP address, 10.108.65.33, to another host.   However, I can ping 10.108.65.38 without any problem.  If adding a second card virtual NETWORK to a different virtual machine and assign it 10.108.65.34, I thing ping 10.108.65.33 without any problem.  I cannot ping this address, 10.108.65.34, another host either.

    I know that the issue is not routing as doing a traceroute from a host shows the correct path is taken.  determination of route of 10.108.65.38 complete normally.  I don't have access to the network infrastructure, because it is a server in a data center.

    The VMkernel, vmk1, using the 10.108.65.38, is accessible from the default gateway and the other hosts in the data center.  However when I attribute 10.108.65.33 to a virtual machine, I can't reach that what anyone outside the 10.108.65.32/29 network, which is my problem right now.  If I assign an address in the subnet of 10.108.65.32/29 as the single IP address to a virtual computer, it still does not work is not a problem of routing within the virtual machine.

    I feel as if I had something simple here as it seems to work almost disappeared.

    Here is the configuration of the network:

    Network.png

    This is the routing table:

    ~ # esxcfg - road - l

    VMkernel itineraries:

    Interface of network gateway subnet mask

    10.108.65.32 255.255.255.248 subnet local vmk1

    10.208.82.32 255.255.255.248 subnet local vmk0

    by default 0.0.0.0 10.208.82.33 vmk0

    I ended up having the point of provider the subnet 10.108.65.32/29 to their router or switch to 10.208.82.38, I have basic and then install a Linux router with iptables to route traffic to myself.

  • How to connect a LAN Segment to the network host Workstation 7

    Hi all.

    This can be a really newbie question, but I'm quite a novice on vmware

    I have set up a team in VMWare Workstation 7 with a few machines virtual all assigned to a single LAN Segment. Everything works fine, but now I need to have internet access in my virtual machines. How to configure the local network segment to see my host network, so I can internet ping?

    Thank you very much!

    OK - see here - I have matched to your vmx file so that all the entries of ethernet0 appear in a row.

    That's what you have now:

    ethernet0. AddressType = 'generated '.

    ethernet0. ConnectionType = "Charlotte".

    ethernet0.generatedAddress = "00: 0C: 29:c3:36:10.

    ethernet0.generatedAddressOffset = '0 '.

    ethernet0.pciSlotNumber = "33".

    ethernet0. Present = 'TRUE '.

    ethernet0.pvnID = ' 52 4 c 5th 98 70 6 82 a-1 b - 0f 97 5 m 76 2 8 a 85 eb ".

    ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000".

    ethernet0.wakeOnPcktRcv = "FALSE".

    Then, I list all the settings that you should NOT touch:

    ethernet0. AddressType

    ethernet0.generatedAddress

    ethernet0.generatedAddressOffset

    ethernet0.pciSlotNumber

    ethernet0. Now

    ethernet0.startConnected

    ethernet0.virtualDev

    ethernet0.wakeOnPcktRcv

    Regardless of the settings of they - leave it alone - don't change to it for this task. After that only these two lines are left:

    ethernet0. ConnectionType = "Charlotte".

    ethernet0.pvnID = ' 52 4 c 5th 98 70 6 82 a-1 b - 0f 97 5 m 76 2 8 a 85 eb ".

    These two are those who configure the local network segment.

    Remove them and replace them with this single line

    ethernet0. ConnectionType = "nat".

    In case you want to break up the team to remove this line

    inVMTeam = 'TRUE '.

    and delete the *.vmxf file in the same directory.

    For more information on configuring network in the vmx file read my site
