MXL PS-M4110 DCB questions

Hi all

The installation program:

Configured the MXL according to Configuration guide for the switch blade Force10 MXL 10/40GbE. The MXL have the latest firmware. I configured VLAN DCB in the GUI.

The question:

The MXL shutters port console and this error:

% DIFFSERV-4-DSM_PFC_NUM_NO_DROP_Q_EXCEEDS_LIMIT: configuration of the priorities of the CFP has failed on the interface Te 0/14 due to the limit is greater than Max allowed Lossless 2 system queues. Updated local Params with PFC Defaults(No priorities enabled for PFC) incase admin params failed to update or update with admin params for failure to update remote params, administrator must configure with the priorities of the PFC with loss less the queue limit.

Clues please?

The problem has been resolved be removed the PS-M4110, I guess that makes the port renegotiate DCB. Port beating the issue proved the eth1 interface. I forced the port on the switch to SPEED 1000 and it installs.

I have to configure my Force10 MXL GbE 10/40 for PS-M4110 storage array. I have two PS-M4110 connected to ports 0/13 and 0/15. I have configured the following way.

    FTOS (conf) # enable iscsi

And it seems that you have everything in place. The guide recommends not to use iscsi optimization for large san deployments. You can browse the guide too, just to double check.

  • VLANning questions about blades MXL

    Hello

I have a new M100e with a SAN PS4110xs case, a few servers blade and two switches Force10 MXL (switches and SAN on fabric)

I put it all in place and works fine, but using the default VLAN for all

I want to connect the switches to a Juniper EX3300 via SFP ports + and send the subnet SAN out so that I can connect remotely to the IP address of the EqualLogic for VMM integration management

However, every time I try to put SAN ports in a VLAN separate-, before even that I look into the chutes for the Juniper - I lose all connectivity on the San.

I created a new VLAN (VLAN120), but as soon as I set the ports inside they cannot ping each other.

    int vlan120

Tagged te0/1 (this is the port of SAN)

Tagged te0/12 (it is a single server)

Tagged te0/16 (that's the other server)

as soon as I do that I lose all connectivity to the San and server cannot ping each other via the iSCSI network.

I tried to use 'no label' instead of 'tag' with the same effect.

    The VLAN is active (non-stop)

I am at a loss for what is the question.

    Any help gratefully received.

    Select this option.

I understood the question - I got 2 trunk in the Juniper VLAN120 links - as soon as I disabled the second interface everything arises in life

Now I need to try to find a way to implement a SHIFT between the two MXL in the stack and a Juniper ex3300 - I managed to get the connectivity that I need, but with only a single link - as it is a remote site I want redundancy :-)

  • DCB - Force10 MXL and Equallogic PS6210 - worth it or not?

    Hello all

I have a new 3-blade M620 virtualization environment, 2 x MXL Force10 switches and 2 x Equallogic PS6210 - there is the possibility of using DCB - is it useful to configure DCB, will I get the gains and better stability, or for a small environment should I just use the configuration standard iscsi?

Ideas or alternative options gratefully received.

    Thank you

    Hello

If the switches are dedicated for iSCSI use, then there is no advantage to the use of DCB.  DCB in itself does not have iSCSI faster.  I just made sure non-iSCSI traffic doesn't interfere by providing iSCSI with a higher priority.  All other traffic is going in a "lossy" class of service.

Also, you will need DCB converged network adapters to use BCD on the hosts.  Most of the iSCSI software adapters do not support DCB.

    Kind regards

  • Disable the DCB on PS-M4110

How we disabled DCB interface g 10 for PS-4110?

No, DCB is never required for any version of firmware EQL.   DCB is always optional.   If you run ESXi, then please make sure 6.0.6 members is upgraded to at least 6.0.7 as soon as POSSIBLE.  VMFS datastore corruption risk is possible with any version lower than 6.0.6-H2. FW

  • Force10 MXL config question

My MXL blades have been set up by Dell Technology Services and work fine, but I would like to make a few changes now and not being Setup is not a network engineer, I have a problem with the docs I could find on the config of Force 10.  Specifically, I want to do 3 things:

    (1) change the SSH root password

    (2) remove a port to a LAG (port channel) group

    (3) add a new VLAN to some ports in the switch, including the one I just removed the lag, but abandon the SHIFT since the new VLAN

Can someone point me to a doc that explains how to do this kind of things?

Also, is it possible to access the console somehow by SSH in the CMC?  I swear I've seen Dell Tech Services people who do somehow, but I don't know how they did it.  Maybe I misunderstood what they were doing.  It would be nice to not have the addresses of IP config exposed and control access through the permissions of CMC.

    Thank you.

    Hi amunter,

You can SSH to the CMC racadm commands and use to set it up. You just need to use PuTTY or other terminal program and go to the CMC host name or IP address.

You should be able to change the password in this way

    (Force10) > activate

    (Force10) #config

    (Force10) (Config) #username admin passwd un_mot_de_passe

    _Config_07_29_2014.PDF https://www.force10networks.com/CSPortal20/Knowledgebase/documentation/CLIConfig/FTOS/MXL_9.5 (0.1)

You can remove a port of a port channel in the channel of the port and using the command config no channel-member interface

    Page 395

You can assign a VLAN to a port with the command interface vlan id - vlan

  • Then a Force10 MXL blade handle no FCoE traffic?

Hello.  I inherit a M1000e with few blades of the Force10 MXL switch installed.  The chassis has no other 10GBASE-T switches.  Since I have no plans on using FCoE, a Force10 MXL can be used for standard Ethernet (non-FCoE) traffic?  Or do I have to buy another switch?

    Thank you.

Absolutely, to see the second page of the data sheet. It contains additional information about the available modules, how internal traffic is manipulated and external.

    Help, please!

Yes the packets can be lost during covering the election of the tree. If the status of the auxiliary port is bouncing between two ports, packages to send can be lost. If you want to try to leave it this way and still have 1 port throw, you can try to change the port on the ports 1 priority so that it is more likely to be the port to be scrapped.

The following example configures a port to be less likely to be selected for transfer to the root bridge, even if the host starts sending of BPDUS.

    Console (config-if-article gi1/0/17) #spanning tree port-priority 240

    Console (config-if-article gi1/0/17) #spanning tree vlan 15 port-priority 240

  • Config port / VLAN on switch MXL

I'm not a network engineer, but I try to set a port to my MXL switch to a VLAN that will route traffic on virtual machines on a local network of calculation.

This is the port Te 0/52 on the back of the MXL and I am running ESXi on servers in my m1000e.  In fact, I have two MXLs in the tissue A of the m1000e configured with VLT via the interfaces of the FourtyGig.  This part has been implemented by people of Dell Tech Services, making the installation.

Here's what looked like the config to start:

    dsa1 #show vlan

    Codes: *-Default VLAN - VLAN, GVRP, R - G remote control Port Mirroring VLAN, P - primary, C - community, I - isolated
    O Openflow
    Q: U - no identified, the T - tag
    x - unidentified Dot1x, X - Dot1x tag
    o - unidentified OpenFlow, O - OpenFlow tag
    G - GVRP tag, M - Vlan-stack, H - VSN tagged
    i unidentified intern, I - labeled internal, untagged, V v - VLT - VLT tag

    Ports Status Description Q NUM
    * 1 U active Po33 (0/33.37 Fo)
    U Po41 (Te 0/41-44)
    Te U 0/1-32
    115 active Mgmt T Po41(Te 0/41-44)
    V Po33 (0/33.37 Fo)
    Te T 0/1-32
    486 active VMGuest T Po41(Te 0/41-44)
    V Po33 (0/33.37 Fo)
    Te T 0/1-32
    Te U 0/49-50

And I wanted to add VLAN 1000 to calculate, so I did the following:

    dsa1 #conf

    dsa1 (conf) #interface Te 0/52
    dsa1 (conf-if-you-0/52) #show config
    !
    interface TenGigabitEthernet 0/52
    no ip address
    MTU 12000
    hybrid portmode
    switchport
    FlowControl rx tx off
spanning tree rstp edge port bpduguard stop-on-violation
    no downtime

    dsa1 vlan (conf) #interface 1000
    dsa1 (conf-if-vl-1000) #show config
    !
    interface Vlan 1000
    Description information
    name computer
    no ip address
    Tagged TenGigabitEthernet 0/1-32
    Unmarked TenGigabitEthernet 0/52
    no downtime

    VLAN now looks like:

    dsa1 #show vlan

    Codes: *-Default VLAN - VLAN, GVRP, R - G remote control Port Mirroring VLAN, P - primary, C - community, I - isolated
    O Openflow
    Q: U - no identified, the T - tag
    x - unidentified Dot1x, X - Dot1x tag
    o - unidentified OpenFlow, O - OpenFlow tag
    G - GVRP tag, M - Vlan-stack, H - VSN tagged
    i unidentified intern, I - labeled internal, untagged, V v - VLT - VLT tag

    Ports Status Description Q NUM
    * 1 U active Po33 (0/33.37 Fo)
    U Po41 (Te 0/41-44)
    Te U 0/1-32
    115 active Mgmt T Po41(Te 0/41-44)
    V Po33 (0/33.37 Fo)
    Te T 0/1-32
    486 active VMGuest T Po41(Te 0/41-44)
    V Po33 (0/33.37 Fo)
    Te T 0/1-32
    Te U 0/49-50
    1000 active Compute T Te 0/1-32
    Te U 0/52

But I wanted to add THAT VLT Po33 tag to the new VLAN because there is in others, not because I really understand what it does.  In my view, it is used for load balancing?  If I label it with the command 'tag Po33' in the config of vlan, out with the status "T" instead of "V".

Here are the details of the VLT:

    dsa1 #show vlt detail
Local LAG Id counterpart LAG Id status Local Peer status Active VLAN
    ------------  -----------  ------------  -----------  -------------
    41 41 UP UP 1, 115, 486
    dsa1 #show brief vlt
    VLT area in brief
    ------------------
    Domain ID: 100
    Role: secondary
    Primary role: 4096
ICL Link Status: to the top
    Status of heart rate: upward
VLT Peer status: to the top
    The local unit ID: 0
    Version: 6 (4)
    Local system MAC address: f8:b1:56:09:70:b1
MAC address of the remote system: f8:b1:56:09:70:fd
Configured the system MAC address: 00:01:00:01:00:01
Version of the remote system: 6 (4)
    Restore delay timer: 90 seconds
    Delay-restore Abort threshold: 60 seconds
    Routing peer: disabled
By the peer-routing-Timeout timer: 0 seconds
    Multicast peer-routing timeout: 150 seconds

So my questions are, I'm on the right track?  It will do what I want it to do is send traffic on port 0/52 Te which is labeled in ESXi with 1000 VLAN?  Should I worry the VLT marking stuff and if yes, how should I do the VLT marking rather than normal marking?

The connection only 1 port of MXL 1 to a device, this device is considered a switch/host an orphan. A VLT connection will have 1 port each MXL placed in a port channel and connected to a device.

Here is a good article that covers the VLT in use with different Topologies.

And the User Guide is a good source to have as well.

  • Config DCB

    Hello

I have install a pair of MXLs and hoped that someone could check on the attached config. Specifically the DCB article where I have not done this before.

I have attached the config of one of the MXLs.

    • A PS4110x is connected to Te0/41 on the two MXLs and has been configured to use DCB on vlan 3000. There is no error on the EQL DCB
    • VLT connects to the MXLs (po100, fo0/33, fo0/37)
    • A hyperV blade is configured on Te0/20 (am still to set up other HyperV blades)

One issue I've had is that vlan 3000 (vlan DCB/iSCSI) must be applied to all ports? The paper I read here suggests it should, but I don't really understand why.

    Thanks for the tips!

    Huw-

    That is right.

  • impact of connectivity of disabling DCB on N4064f

Hello. We use N4064f as ToR switches. We have connected additional without EQL to the network and the new EQLs are complaining of DCB misconfiguration on the switches. We don't use of DCB, as well as literature, I read, you must disable DCB on switches.

I found the commands to do this in the configuration of switch guide (why can't do you it from the GUI?), my question is if this will have an impact on connectivity.

Both N4064f switches are not stacked, but connected using the QSFP ports ISL (static gal). RSTP is also configured.

Our network guys said there could be up to 2 minute break, which is not true, I hope.

    Someone who can confirm?

If we do not disable DCB on switches, there should be no effect on the functionality of EQLs, right? (with the exception of the warning in the Group Manager)

We did a quick laboratory test and doesn't see any loss of network DCB to disable. If you do not see it yet, this is a good document.

  • MXL (a definitive guide)

    Hello everyone.

I would firstly like to say that I am quite new to the world of MXL, so possible that going to some of these questions may seem kinda stupid.

Currently we have 4 MXL switches configured in a topology ring in our company, unfortunately the original installation documentation is incomplete and I were tasked to redefine this documentation and planning an update of the firmware in the near future.

    My question is:

Is it possible in the CLI to identify which switch is in what physical location in the chassis of the M1000 PE?

These switches are in a pile, can I find out what is the IP address of each individual switch management? and access to turn these units?

Ive checked a lot of the configuration of the guide, but can not find answers to these two questions.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm not aware of an order of the switch that will show you which slot it is installed in. However, if you look through the CMC M1000e, you should be able to look at the State of health of module. Health status should show some information about each slot on the chassis and what is installed in it.

While stacked switches behave as a single unit. So there will be an IP address that is assigned to the main unit. Other switches will not have assigned IP addresses.

Here are some good resources on the M1000e chassis.

  • File MXL

    Hi gurus,
I have a MAXL (extension script1.mxl) file I need to run. In order to run it, that's what I did: I got ESSMSH on the COMMAND LINE to enter MAXL, then I open the script1.mxl file in Notepad, copied all the content and pasted on the COMMAND PROMPT and it ran. He ran, however, he gave the syntax error because when I pasted from Notepad, he missed both first letter of each line (for example, IMPORT became the PORT, that's why he did the syntax error)
Another thing I tried was: entered "ESSMSH script1.mxl" on the command line, and it did not work as well. If I have questions for gurus about what would be the right way of running .mxl files? If there is a way to run it from the command prompt I'd love to know the right steps. OR is there a way to do this via the SEND TO folder.
OR how to use the ESSMSH. EXE file to run the command.
I use 11.1.2 so all suggestions/help would be appreciated.
    Thank you

You use startMaxl.cmd or startMaxl.bat and not essmsh

    for example path\startMaxl.cmd maxlscript.mxl

  • TabDelimit in the script of mxl

    Hello

I have a script with the following command {TabDelimit} mxl.
I would like to know if there is another command that allows you to use a different separator, like: ',' or ';'

    Thank you.

The command you mention isn't reports MaxL scripts (even if you could have a script of report of MaxL. But to answer your question, no there is no other option to change the delimiter. There was a recent thread where it was suggested to do after the fact with a Perl or other script.
