My Airport Extreme is overheating after having 2 years.

My Airport Extreme (part number ME918LL/A) after two years is more hear a lot with the fan running all the time. I tried to keep it dusted but I'm afraid it's to have pulled up in the router by the fan. Is it possible to clean the dust router, it pulls in? I'm surprised that there no air holes near the top of him to help cool.

I hope you have AppleCare implemented on a Mac or other device... covering AirPort Extreme for up to 3 years from the date of purchase. If so, take the airport an Apple Retail Store or contact Apple's Support to get a replacement AirPort Extreme.

If you have no grip under warranty for a replacement, then your only other option would be to open the AirPort Extreme and try to clean or replace the fan. Apple doesn't offer spare parts, but you may be able to find a suitable fan replacement if a good cleaning does not cure the noise and heat issue.

This article will give some tips on setting inside the AirPort Extreme and poking around.

Error while trying to update the Airport Extreme (model A1521) firmware to version 7.7.7.  After clicking on "Refresh" for the EPA in the utility AirPort app on my MBP, it seemed like it was downloading and then restart, but then the "error during firmware update" message popped up.

Then he disappeared from the AirPort Utility app. check the physical EPA, he got a quick Orange flashing light on.

Perform a reset by mode on "soft" apple support  No change in status in the AirPort or LED utility.

Perform a "hard" reset No change.

Perform a reset "factory".  Solid green LED for 1 second, off for 1 second, then fixed Orange LED for 5 to 10 seconds, then orange flashing LED forever.

Removed all connections to the EPAS, repeated above steps with identical results.

Tried to plug the cable to all ports, a both MBP, then in a port to a different router.  No connection.

Base from the bottom of the EPA to inspect the connection with the ohmmeter removed rubber physical reset button. Button contacts are open when not depressed, short circuit when pressed.

EPA appears at all in the AirPort Utility (not in "Other WiFi devices" or the other).

Pushing the reset button on the EPA has no effect, no matter how much time or when it is pushed.

Interaction ONLY with the device, which had until this point was working perfectly for years, has been through the AirPort Utility software.  Physical interaction occurred after that the update of the firmware he bricked.  Simply, I do not understand how a botched firmware update might brick the MONKEY.  The default firmware must always be able to be loaded with the reset sequence.

    Help, please.

You should not open it... Apple may have been told by replacing.

Firmware updates are always dangerous... the airport less then most of the routers.

However very rarely something can go wrong and the firmware written correctly to the ROM. This will leave the router in a State of broken forever. You need to replace unfortunately.

He got a quick Orange flashing light on.

Restore mode flashing quickly means that it is in...

Perform a reset "factory".  Solid green LED for 1 second, off for 1 second, then fixed Orange LED for 5 to 10 seconds, then orange flashing LED forever.

It flashes quickly or slowly forever?

The ethernet light when you plug the ethernet cable?

As far as I know, there is no firmware emergency repair method at airports... Apple has every confidence their sequence of upgrade to work, even when the firmware is delivered more wireless... always a big risk CF ethernet.

  • Why my airport extreme is overheating?

For the last week my Airport extreme did evidence of a status message saying that it could be overheating. It was behind my iMac so I moved it to the desktop to ensure it becomes quite convenient, and he still has questions. Firmware is up to date, and the airport is barely more than a year. I received it the year last for Christmas. Not sure what is the cause. Is this just a hardware problem?

    I guess two things:

    1. There is plenty of space around the base station itself, and
    2. The room is held where the base station is not excessively hot.

Your AirPort Extreme 802.11ac has an internal fan to the top of the unit and air is drawn in and exhausted by the bottom. It would be possible to have a few "dust bunnies" in the database or that the fan is defective.

To get a better idea on what's inside, please look at the following disassembly of iFixit for this device.

  • Airport extreme connectivity problems

I got in and out of trouble with my Airport Extreme, which is less than two years. I started to lose the connection to the internet for 4 months now. Now, I get different errors that my extreme is overheating and another mistake he lost the DNS information for my Cox internet service. I'm running 7.7.3 and of course impossible to change the firmware. The only way I can solve the problem when it comes to the top is to do a reset on the extreme and wifi Setup. Is there anything else I can do to fix this?

Cox has implemented IPv6 services in its system, which has been designed to be compatible with existing equipment. Unfortunately, Cox has now established that airport routers are not compatible with the changes they put in place.

If you want to be able to use the new IPv6 service that Cox has put in place, you need to replace the routers of the airport with another brand that Cox recommends.

If you want disable iPv6 Cox service, then this can be done on the router from Apple... and can help with your problems of connection. After the back if you want to try this.

  • Airport extreme continues to lose a WiFi for devices

I have an Airport Extreme router and since last week, I have had problems where the devices throughout the House will lose internet connectivity. It's very random when it initially started to happen.  Now, I find myself restarting the router every time to solve almost every day.

    My configuration:

Carrier Internet (wifi off)-> Apple Extreme router connected directly to the Internet (wifi active) carrier router

At first, I thought it was my internet service provider. After problems with them, everything seems to work fine on their end. I have a travel line that directly connects the router to the internet company (I have 4 dedicated IPs available) and it works very well when my devices stop working.

Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem? I spent a lot of money on this router in the hope of having a better experience of wi fi for all my devices apple, 4 iPads, 2 iPhones, 3 Apple TV and 2 Macbook cradle unfortunately, I'm out of warranty for support. Hopefull

    Hello themaclife,

I understand that you are having problems with the internet using your airport Exterme. Let's see if we can get this sorted out.

Generally, most of the problems can be solved by restarting simply your Airport Extreme. If this is something that is becoming more and more frequent, you may need to configure back again once. Take a look at the article below to guide you in how to restart and reconfigure your Airport Extreme. Don't forget to use the recommended settings and look out for any who might cause problems similar to what you feel.

Now you mentioned that the warranty has expired on your Airport Extreme as well as having 2 Mac and Apple TV 3. If none of these devices have AppleCare and was purchased within 2 years of each other, then one of these devices can extend the warranty to your Airport Extreme.

  • AirPort Extreme and Virgin super hub

    Hello

I have a new hub great vm that I put in place in modem only mode and then using my AirPort Extreme of 2nd generation as the wireless router. Is there a reason why I would see lower broadband speeds like that implemented just vs using the super hub in router mode full. I get very fast BB with just the hub acting as the wireless router but it drops by half or even more with my extreme up to game. The problem is that the hub has the power of the terrible wireless signal? I was wondering if it's because of my extreme 2nd generation? Or perhaps a setting that is incorrect.

    appreciate any advice.

    Thank you

    PHil

A 2nd generation AirPort Extreme is at less than 7 years and that almost 9 depending on where you purchased the product. On average, the useful lifetime of a router designed for domestic use is... average... about 5 years.

You can reset the AirPort Extreme back to default settings and then set ip all over again, but frankly, I doubt that this will result in a significant improvement. Let us know your results if you decide to try it.

If you decide to try a new router, AirPort, Apple offers a 14-day return privilege, so if one new product is not the way you want, you can return it for Exchange or refund.

  • I lost my WiFi signal after having placed a time Capsule in the system. Now the Airport Extreme will not recognize the system. Any ideas?

Any ideas on why my Airport Extreme will not recognize the system after the integration of the time Capsule in my system? Continues to have a flashing yellow light after trying all suggestions of technicians from the Apple Store and Internet provider.

Since we don't know all what has been tried, we will have to start from the beginning if you don't mind.

What exact models are your AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule? What is the brand and model of your modem Internet? I'll assume that Extreme is your "main" router and is directly connected to the modem by Ethernet... correct?

Do you have the Time Capsule (TC) connected to the extreme, by wire or wireless? What is your goal for the TC? In other words, will not be used to extend the reach of the extreme wireless?

  • Airport Extreme (ME918LL/A) must be Factory Reset after power cycling

whenever I power cycle the router (at the suggestion of Cox), I end up having to reset completely by holding the small button in the back (for factory reset).

after power failure cycling or power (it is on a surge protector) he will be a solid clear amber and not actually broadcast all networks.  several fun power do not help, the only thing that works is a clean factory reset.  THEN trying to set up the network using an iphone 6 s (macbook air and mac mini/PC portable airport utility never works) it will take two or three tries, even if I am standing less than 5 feet from the base station, in clear visibility.

its really begins to age, Wastin' 30 minutes each time that the router is the bike power

  • Unable to connect to Airport Extreme after updating iOS 10

    Hey guys.

OK not sure if anyone else has this problem, but I can't connect to my Airport Extreme update IOS 10 my wife is.

We all have two iPhone 6 and 64 gb & update at the same time.

We have an ac 802.11 Airport extreme also an extreme dual band of airport & an express airport which none of us can connect to.

We can connect to the Home Hub 6 provided by our service provider broadband with no problems but it is only in a part of the House that we are unable to connect to my office or at the back of the House.

Tried resetting the network settings on the phone thought I might ask before having to try to reset back to factory settings base stations.

    Thank you

FWIW, I upgraded my iPhone SE 5 and Pro iPad to iOS 10 as well, but knows me not any problems connecting to one of my base station AirPort to Wi - Fi.

Or the other of your iPhones must all problems connecting to other networks in addition to the Home Hub Wi - Fi? In other words, are they only having problems connecting to your AirPort base station? If Yes, do you have someone nearby who also has an AirPort wireless network that you should check your iPhones with?

In the meantime, let's take a look at the current configuration of your network. We know that you, at least, three airport base stations. What is the exact models of non - 802.11ac extreme and Express?

These base stations are all linked back to the Home Hub with Ethernet they are all configured for a mobile network?

How to work with this pinhole?

Usually a paperclip or toothpick or ball pen.

Stick it in the hole and reset for about 10 seconds until the front led flashes quickly.

How to reset AirPort Extreme 10.11.6 OS?

The software method... Unlike the above material method... is to open airport utility and select restore default settings.

  • The airPort Extreme is not working after Firmware update

    Hello

At our office, we have several AirPort Extreme or TimeCapsules and one of them (AirPort Extreme) stop working properly after the update 7.7.7

The update itself is supposed to be ok and we have updated all our stations but it only seems to not work. I have hard and factory reset and somehow until last month worked more less, but from this week completely stop working and even reset does not work.

I already ran out of ideas and it seems that Apple wants to charge me $ 30 for a phone call.

Someone at - it a similar case? Should I take on the Apple Store?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You can get it replaced if it is less than one year... That is to say in the warranty or if you have any computer or ipad or apple TV which is covered by the applecare will also cover the airport up to 3 years old if EI is less than 2 years, you can still buy applecare on a product calling... or you can buy say an apple TV and buy applecare for it.

If Apple do not repair them. only, they will be replaced.

  • Why Airport Extreme disappeared from Airport utility, after adding to the mac feature?

10.11 OS, with the version of the airport, 6.3.6.  I can see is no longer my Airport Extreme Airport utility after I activated to Mac. I have Airport Extreme base ME91899/A and two Airport Express units model A1392 bolt torque.  I set up the Airport Extreme unit and the network first.  I was able to see the Airport utility. I then added each airport express unit. They were also visible. Then I added back the ability of Mac to the Airport extreme unit, and now it is no longer visible in the Airport utility.  Why is this?

Apple has problems much time with iCloud. Turn off Back to My Mac across your airport routers and then shut down and restart the entire network.

We will have to wait for a fix from Apple.

  • Presario 2175US not able to connect to the radio after installing Apple Airport Extreme router

Hi all.  I have a Presario 2175US portable computer that is running Windows XP SP2.  The wireless adapter is a Broadcom 802. 11b / g WLAN adapter.  We have recently installed a router Apple AirPort Extreme in our House, with a network WPA2 key, and while the wireless network is visible on my laptop, when I try to connect, it tries to connect for about 90 seconds, but fails.  Unlike other laptops that we have, it does not ask me to enter the network key before trying to connect.  If anyone has a solution to this problem, I would be very grateful.  Thank you.

Thanks for the comments, Paul.  I am pleased to say that the problem was solved after I installed the Windows XP SP3.

  • Unable to connect to the network after having extended to a second Airport via ethernet router

    Hello

I have a 5th gen airport extreme that did a wonderful job providing the wifi to the majority of our House. Unfortunately, in our room on the floor, we have a (good) connection causing a constant depreciation with netflix that my wife was not fond of.

Today, I ran a line of 100 feet of ethernet in my attic and connected my previous dual band gen 3 airport extreme. I have reset the router and configured from scratch. When it has completed the Installation Wizard to "expand my current network." as soon as the router is online, our network goes off. I can unplug the second router and starts all over again. but when it is connected. my devices ask for network password and fail to connect.

how our network is set up:

    Modem - Airport Extreme (5thgen) - ethernet 8port switch - Airport Extreme (3rdgen)

All are wired using the cat6 cable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please perform a hard reset on the 3rd Gen AirPort Extreme as follows:

Turn on the airport for a few minutes

Pressed the reset button on the back of the AirPort Extreme for 5 to 6 seconds

Release the reset button and allow a minute for the airport restart to a slow, flashing amber light status

Temporarily, move the 3rd Gen airport close to the airport of Gen 5 th and connect short, spare Ethernet cable... no matter what length will make... among the <-->LAN ports on the 5 th Gen to the "O" WAN port on the 3rd Gen airport

Turn on the 3rd Gen airport for a minute or two

Rerun the installer... who will suggest that the 3rd generation will extend the signal of the 5th generation, enter a name for the 3rd generation device and click Next. Your screen will be similar to the example below, but will show your devices and the network name.

Monitor the following very closely to ensure that the 3rd generation is currently set to spread with Ethernet.  This indicates that the installation wizard recovers the Ethernet connection, so the 3rd generation will be configured correctly.

Wait another minute until the 3rd generation is configured and working properly... and check that it causes NO problems on the network as if it was before, when it was not properly configured.

Now move back the 3rd generation to the remote location and connect the Ethernet cable to the WAN port on the 3rd generation.  If your cables Ethernet works correctly, the 3rd generation will work properly.

If the 3rd generation does not work properly, then you will need troubleshoot the Ethernet connection and, eventually, the Ethernet switch... Since you know that the 3rd generation has been put in place properly and it works well with the other short Ethernet cable.
