Airport Extreme (ME918LL/A) must be Factory Reset after power cycling

whenever I power cycle the router (at the suggestion of Cox), I end up having to reset completely by holding the small button in the back (for factory reset).

after power failure cycling or power (it is on a surge protector) he will be a solid clear amber and not actually broadcast all networks.  several fun power do not help, the only thing that works is a clean factory reset.  THEN trying to set up the network using an iphone 6 s (macbook air and mac mini/PC portable airport utility never works) it will take two or three tries, even if I am standing less than 5 feet from the base station, in clear visibility.

its really begins to age, Wastin' 30 minutes each time that the router is the bike power

AirPort Extreme is defective and must be replaced. Please contact the Apple Support for a replacement unit.

Hello Jerry, SX300 series switches have a startup configuration and running configuration. For switch settings, you must save the configuration running at startup otherwise, all settings will be lost.

After a change is made there is a flashing recording icon at the top right. You can click here and follow the windows. In addition, you can go to Admin-> Managemenet file-> copy the file and record there too.

  • Airport Extreme light shows green but have reset to get back online

    Hello everyone,

I searched around for a few days and I found a few solutions I've tried, but none have worked yet.

My Airport Extreme has worked perfectly since we bought it around last summer, to replace our old style airport extreme. A few days ago, we noticed that our internet was not working, but during the inspection, all looked like it should be (modem lights were fine and our AE had a green light). I unplugged the Airport Extreme and left for a few seconds, then plugged it, once she came back until he returned to the Green and the internet worked fine (on 3 iPhones, 1 mini iPad and 1 iMac we use). Unfortunately, he must do it every 2-3 hours now to continue using our wifi.

So far I've made sure to firmware has been updated got rid of all special characters in our wifi name (saw it mentioned somewhere) and disconnected, both the router and the modem, let the modem first and then plugged router inside from there, essentially a complete reset of the system.

Does anyone else have this problem or an idea on how to fix it, or what can go wrong?

    Thanks in advance!

You may not be aware that most Internet Service providers are in various stages of implementation of a new kind of service called IPv6 in their systems, which is done to alleviate a shortage of public IP addresses that occurs now.

Most suppliers of Internet services (ISP) have not really talked to clients changes they make on their systems. Among those who have, have made sure their customers should not notice any change in their service running.

I think you can see where this could go, since the evidence says otherwise. We saw an impressive number of reports of losses, frequent and intermittent internet connections on the forum in recent months in particular.

Coincidentally, the last few months is when most providers have made a number of changes to their systems. An ISP in particular is having problems because of their changes, and they are even gone so far as to inform users that their routers Apple... who worked on their service in the past... now, are not compatible with the new IPv6 service.

Except if your ISP gave you very specific instructions on the configuration of your router to work with his new IPv6 service, you can have better luck by disabling the connection IPv6 on your AirPort base station, using the more traditional IPv4 connection that offers to your ISP.

Important note... There is no guarantee that her temporarily disable the IPv6 connection on your AirPort base station will improve your connection problems, then it will be your decision if you want to try this.  You can call your ISP to ask them how their implementation of IPv6.

After the back if you want more details on how to disable the IPv6 your AirPort base station.

Hey I had deleted my recovery partition because windows limit 4 partitions and I used all the others... I can still do a factory reset now if something is wrong? Or can I create a disk recovery or something?

Just use Windows recovery integrated to do the backup, it is free and works well. The backup is a full system image & recover as mobile in the exact configuration is in at the time of the creation.

A clone of left player would do the same thing & tends to be much more relible HP recovery & free.

  • Factory reset after re-installation of windows with a different key

    Hi all

    I bought a laptop HP dv7-7264ez, with 8 pre-installed windows ENVY.

After installing linux and messed with the boot settings, I need to re - install windows. Because I had not burned an iso of Windows 8 or extracted from my windows product key, I asked a friend to to burn me a DVD with his version of windows (Windows 8.1 pro). I did a reset of the PC of the utility of windows with this new version.

Now, I try to get my old version of Windows (normal, not pro) for reasons morals and because I can't "activate Windows" with the version of my friend.

To create a Windows DVD, I downloaded the Microsoft tool and extract from my current product key with this tool. The problem is that the extracted key is the version of my friend and it is not valid to create a .iso for Windows 8.

In other words, I need to get my original Windows product key!

Is it possible to do a factory reset 'real '?

Or y at - it a database with all affected Windows keys?

    Thanks for your help!

    You are the very welcome.

You may need to install the driver sata for your model.

    Try this...

Download the drivers from this link below (first or second file listed - 32 or 64 bit depending on the case).

    https://Downloadcenter.Intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?AGR=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=23060&keyword=Intel+RAPI...

Extract the files on a usb flash drive.

With the flash drive and the installation of W8 media plugged into the machine, boot from the installation of W8 media.

After selecting the install now option, select the training - Advanced menu, Options and select the option load a driver.

You should now see the storage driver files listed.

If you check the box, it only includes the compatible driver.

Follow the prompts and if this is the problem, install W8.

There is no way I know of to recover the product key.

It works with an OEM W8 as XP installation disc used for in ancient times.

You had to match the installation media with the type of product key (OEM, sale retail or upgrade).

What to do if will not work the Reset button on Airport Extreme a1408? The password is lost (bought used). At this point, your only hope is to open the AirPort Extreme to try to repair the reset button... If possible. This link provides some tips on the process to open the unit.

Honestly, it isn't easy, unless you're a guy real DIY, you can buy an A1408 used on Amazon for about $35-40.

  • Airport Extreme - poor score from Consumer Reports

In the notes of June 2016 of routers by Consumer Reports, the Apple Airport Extreme was ranked 7th of 14 rated routers.

Linksys (EA8500) AC260 ranked 1st with an overall Score of 89

The Apple Airport Extreme ME918LL/A 7th place with an overall score of only 67 & wasn't 1 of 4 routers "recommended" by Consumer Reports.

I have currently 2 5th generation Apple Airport extreme with the 2nd 1 put in place as an 'extension' of the 1st (hard wired).

Am currently in the market for an Apple Airport Extreme 3rd - also to be used as an 'extension' of the 1st (also to be wired).

I had years of service with my current 2 extremes without any major problems.

But, I must say, this weak side causes me to rethink the purchase of one 3rd extreme.

In addition to an Apple 6 more belonging to both myself and my wife and one old iPad 3 belonging to my wife, I don't have any other products Apple.  I use Dell computers & have never owned a Mac.

    The qUESTIONs ARE:

Should I worry about buying the new Apple Airport Extreme Base Station?

The Appreciation of Linksys #1 is $60 more ($240) that extreme already expensive ($180).

    Is - it's worth the extra $$$?

Different brands of routers can be 'mixed' and used as in "extensions" of a 5th generation Apple Airport Extreme Base Station?

Should I worry about buying the new Apple Airport Extreme Base Station?

Perhaps.  The current product was introduced more than 3 years ago, and Apple did not of any material changes since that time. Because it usually takes about a year to develop a new product, the technology in the "current" AirPort Extreme is probably 4 years old.

Your next question might be... Apple plans to introduce new models soon?  The answer is that we do not know.

The Appreciation of Linksys #1 is $60 more ($240) that extreme already expensive ($180).

I have not used this model, but another user might have a few comments.

Different brands of routers can be 'mixed' and used as in "extensions" of a 5th generation Apple Airport Extreme Base Station?

    Yes and no.

Yes, if the routers are only connected together using a connection wired Ethernet cable.

Not in general, if you ask to have different brands "extend" the signal of wireless connection to other brands

  • set up a branch to the main ethernet using Airport Extreme network

Could someone help me with this network configuration please?

I rent an office and we have an ethernet cable coming into our building to the main network (a fiber broadband building next door). The ethernet line give you IP addresses and internet link.

I would like to set up our own network in our building-

1 / would put an Airport Extreme there is the ethernet cable and then plug the cable into the WAN port

2 / I would implement the EA to distribute IP addresses, but using a different pool - so if the main building uses 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.256, I would be created my AE to use 10.1.1.1 to 10.1.1.256

3 / I would then run an ethernet cable between the port LAN on EI to my Netgear 24 port switch.

4 / I would connect all our other airport extreme and express again our Ethernet switch and put them all to 'bridge mode '. The switch ethernet cables may be connected to the WAN ports on these airports.

Anyone see any problem here? We would just to have control over our own IP addresses and be able to restart our Airport Extreme, if we must, do not rely on the building next door to the distribution of intellectual property. I know still need to answer on them for the internet connection, but that's fine.

    Thank you!

It should work. It would be the basis of a network of mobile type.

A word of caution. With the exception of the "main" AirPort Extreme that performs as a router, connect the other base stations using their respective ports of LAN. We found some inconsistencies when a base station is in bridge mode and the connection is their WAN port.

  • The Airport Extreme 2 to died (light orange) 5 years

A few days ago my MacBook pro let me know he could ' t locate the time capsule and hand't stored in more than a week.  I checked the other computers in the House, I discovered that they were all not finding time capsule not more.  When I checked the device the light was green, and all machines were connected to the wifi signal that he died.  I unplugged the Airport Extreme and gave him a minute or two and it reconnected.  I never heard the spin drive up so I guess the hard drive should have failed a few weeks ago.  After power cycling the light remains orange solid, and wifi no longer works.  Airport utility will not find the device.

    My questions are:

Why if the wifi work until it's the power to bike after the hard drive failed?  The fact that the wifi does not work now shows that I should just trash and get a new one?

Should I just install a new hard drive, if so where can I get the disk image format?

    Thank you for reading this!

Why if the wifi work until it's the power to bike after the hard drive failed?  The fact that the wifi does not work now shows that I should just trash and get a new one?

It worked because the TC was functional, even if the hard drive was not... If you open airport utility you should have seen a hard drive error, but he might have ignored, so... in fact the main light must have been orange flashing not green.

The TC is designed to test the hard drive when starting... If it fails the TC does not start.

You will have an indicators of solid orange color which is hard drive failure.

If you open the TC you can replace the drive. See https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Apple_Time_Capsule

Should I just install a new hard drive, if so where can I get the disk image format?

Once you install the disk simply go to the tab of disc airport utility and erase the drive... which will set it up properly.

One thing to consider is the economy... a TC 5 years really may not be worth a repair... power supplies can also go wrong.

If it's a Gen3 and when you open it is brand Delta power, then it might be interesting to replace the drive... a Gen4 usually also would be worthwhile. Disk 4 Gen is WD green... and he might have lost format rather that died... you could so be able to simply delete it.

Tell me the A1xxx of the base model and I can help you understand what to do... I've fixed hundreds of them.

  • Airport Extreme Double NAT / AT & T NVG510

My Internet connection has worked very well for several years, until recently, when the simple DSL modem (a Motorola 2210-02 - 1ATT) provided by AT & T began to experience intermittent outages. Initially, the DSL modem would lose the line for a minute or two at a time. But within 48 hours, the line started to drop during the hours in a row (synchronization failed line DSL). Whenever the modem has lost the line, my Airport Extreme (the router on my home network), shows a "Double NAT" alert. But whenever the modem 2210-02 DSL connection has been restored, alert the Airport Extreme's "Double NAT" disappeared.

After a day and a half problems, the line is down for so many hours that I finally called AT & T to check the status of our range. So, AT & T sent a technician who concluded fairly quickly the 2210-02-1ATT was the problem and replaced it with a modem/router combo (manufacturing date 11/2014) NVG510 (with router function disabled in the settings).

The speed that results and the quality of the connection via the NVG510 were good, so the tech packed 2210-02 in his bag and left. But now I get that alert "Double NAT" once again on my Airport Extreme, even if the home network is apparently working as well as it ever did.

The only setting I changed was on the NVG510 - as soon as the technology has left, I turned off the WiFi on the NVG510 function because I want the Airport Extreme to my router, same as always.

So far so good. After 24 hours with the NVG510 in place, the network worked well with no major hiccups, the only exception being the status of "Double NAT" alert displayed in Airport utility. In fact, had I have not bothered to watch Airport utility, I don't know that there was a "Double NAT" alert

Everything on the side of the NVG510 LAN is identical to what was in place with the 2210-02...

Airport Extreme 802.11ac works as "router" with the WiFi signal on another floor via an Airport Extreme 802.11n wireless (5th generation).

The WiFi signal provides web access to some desktop Mac, AppleTV, devices, mobile phones, tablet computers and a laptop (laptop is the only device that uses a VPN).

The network on the Airport Express 802.11ac, who serves as router, is "DHCP and NAT." and the "5th Gen," which extends the wireless network, set mode "bridge."

After hours of searching online, I understand that this problem is surely the result of the NVG510, and that this problem exists for at least five years. I've read at least a few tens of different ways to try a fix via adjustments to settings, but none reached the level of a real solution.

Although my network is no problem at the moment, I'm afraid that "Double NAT" alert is a sword of Damocles that will eventually crash my network, a situation I like to avoid. I dared not yet connect the laptop with a VPN to the router, but out of fear that will bring down the whole network.

I'd rather solve the "Double NAT" proactively.

Is there a a way to eliminate the Double "Nat" by adjusting the parameters of the NVG510 and/or the Airport Extreme?  Or, my fears of future problems and a VPN disaster are unfounded?

    Thank you

According to your comments, the NVG510 has not been reconfigured as a bridge and is providing routing functions (NAT & DHCP).

To resolve the Double NAT is the new Motorola NVG510 or AirPort Extreme needs to be reconfigured under a bridge. The simplest solution would be to reconfigure the extreme. In this way, the NVG510 can handle NAT & DHCP services required by clients of network connected to the extreme to access the Internet.

To reconfigure the extreme as a gateway, use the AirPort Utility, as follows:

    • Run the AirPort Utility and then select the extreme.
    • Click on Extreme and then, select Edit.
    • Click the network tab to select it.
    • Change the router Mode to: Off (bridge Mode)
    • Click on update and allow extreme restart.
  • Do a factory reset on my AirPort Extreme 802.11n resets my country code?

Do a factory reset on my AirPort Extreme 802.11n resets my country code?

Wireless Diagnostics warns on codes of countries in conflict.

I ve got an AirPort Express 802.11n and an AirPort Extreme 802.11n

The country code of the Airport Express is ok, but Airport Extreme shows me different options.

    Any suggestions?

    Please

A factory default reset will set the area code of the AirPort Extreme back to the initial setting that it was when it was new, but this should not be necessary because you can change the country setting without having to perform a factory default reset.

You can see the options available for your AirPort Extreme by opening AirPort Utility, by clicking on the image of the AirPort Extreme, and then click Edit in the window that appears.

Click on the Wireless tab at the top of the window, and then click Wireless Options near the bottom of the window. Click on the country selection box to see the options available for your AirPort Extreme country.

Apple is doing to "regionalize" airport routers, so, for example, that if you bought the AirPort Extreme in the AirPort Express to the United States and Europe, the country on the extreme options will only show of European countries, so that the country on the version options American Express shows countries in the Western hemisphere.

  • How to reset the airport extreme to factory default

My Airport & time capsule are not connected to the modem, saying no dns server is available, however the modem works when connected to the computer. (Macbook) After hours of troubleshooting, I would just restore default settings and see if I can get it going again. Can anyone provide info on restoring the default settings?

    Thank you!

    • Turning off AirPort Extreme for a minute or two
    • In the reset button on the back of the AirPort Extreme first... and keep taking them for 7 to 8 seconds... while simultaneously you reconnect the power on the AirPort Extreme.  (This step is a bit complicated for most users, because it takes almost 3 hands to do it properly)
    • Release the reset button to zero after the period of detention and allow a minute for the AirPort Extreme back on the way to a slow, flashing amber light status

AirPort Extreme is now back to the State it was when you took it first out of the box.
