  I just did a clean install of Snow Leopard on my Mac. Here's what I did.

  (1) installed Snow Leopard 10.6

  (2) installed all the updates of OS X (including 10.6.1)

  (3) installed Quark Xpress-8.12

  (4) installed Adobe CS4 Design Standard

  (5) installed all updates of Adobe (no updates associated with Illustrator)

  (6) installed Extensis Suitcase Fusion 2 (v13.2.1)

  Photoshop starts very well.

  When I launch Illustrator it crashes just after the start screen is displayed.

  Any ideas please?

  Couldn't find anything on the Internet really - if cannot get a response soon, so I have to go back to the leopard .

  I would suspect suitcase and maybe a corrupt police could be the cause of this problem and the database is corrupt.

  However before any attempt of software really point the finger this removes all the unnecessary fonts then

  to do this

  first Illustrator altogether and then;

  I go to the users/username/Library/preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings folder and trash this settings folder.
  then see if Illustrator works well. If this is not the case, try a new user account if it works very well under a new user so I think it's the police database.

  Running HAVE CS5.5. All of a sudden, when I "save under" in pdf format, the pdf content is not saved. On the contrary, when the file is opened, the document said: «this is an Adobe Illustrator file that has been saved without content PDF.» To place or open the file in other applications, it should be re-recorded to HAVE with the 'Create PDF Compatible file' option turned on. This option is in the Format Options native Illustrator dialogue bos, which appers when you save an Adobe Illustrator file by using the Save as command. »

  I understand that say these directions and I can do it like that, but it is impossible to open the file by a person without I.

  It's used to work so easily! Save slot, choose pdf in the drop down menu, it adds .pdf for the file name, in fact!

  Can someone tell me what does this change? Two days ago it worked fine, and I would not change anything (knowingly).

  I read a couple of them where the problem has been resolved with a reboot. Have you tried? Also, did you get the same results when using save a copy?

  I am a very new Designer self-taught Illustrator, using the forums and articles online. I find that sometimes I can not apply 'Effects' for my fonts. In this case, I use the police Charlegmane, and when I highlight the text I want to apply an effect to, the options are that all out - shaded each of them. This happens with every text box on the project. Symbols, on the other hand, to apply effects. Any help would be much appreciated.

  As already mentioned, the effects are applied by object, not by character. You must select the text object in its entirety with the move / select the tool. If you need to apply different effects to different characters / lines of text, the text must be split or converted to outlines, giving you separate objects to work with.

• 7'x 18' mural Design, Illustrator CS4 will not produce as small printiable PDF to show the customer

  I design a mural of a 7' x 18' Photo/graphic design for a client.  The output provider said to work in full screen.  However, I need a pdf file, or any type of file that allows to print the image on paper 8.5 x 11 for the customer's review.  I tried to open the file in InDesign and Photoshop, and re-registration, but he still wants to be 7 x 18 feet no matter what format I take.  Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

• In design issue - CC will not save PDF & TIFF images are missing

  My indesign file, I've worked on over the past two months suddenly will not save the pdf out. Before this problem with the economy that happened... The last page of the circular page 8.5 x 11 20, is gray/50% the whole page in gray? And the background image that has been placed in the document and left behind an empty "images box" disappeared (or so I thought). I'm going to place the background image in once again, assuming that I deleted it. I am also having the same problem with the other images on other pages where the images have disappeared leaving behind empty boxes that may not have the images replaced them as NDS. They will not be displayed.

  I went to check the display in inDesign aka he changed the overprint preview and the "greying" box covered now all layers on this page only. How design is very organized, so everything is on layers (of exodus's images, shapes, text, background, guides). Guides have disappeared, and this gray effect (almost like when you're in illustrator and isolate a form any other work turned a shade darker) is there with once again the empty boxes without the content that I placed in them.

  I therefore decided to close the file and reopen. nothing has changed. I tried to save out as a PDF, so I can make sure that the file is safe... it out will now save all and tasks from bottom says "Impossible to export the PDF file." That's all. No other explanation.

  Does all this sound familiar to anyone? Or did happen? Help.

  UPDATE:

  I deleted a page that was giving me trouble and copy and paste new content... which seems a sort of solve the problem for now. I have to register again the whole document into a new document, I hope that works... I wish that this form could let me post a screenshot of the issue, I'm sure it would give someone a understanding of what's going on.

• Project will not save

  Someone had experience with projects not wanting to save?  I said the other day that I have installed Windows 7 64 bit on a second partition, so now I can dual-boot with XP 32 bit or Windows 7.  7 has worked very well so far with the exception of this one project we have (that I had worked on XP in the last three months) will not save in Windows 7.

  When I click on save or press Ctrl + s, save it dialog box appears, but the bar fills never at all and the program stops responding.  I don't know if it is a Windows 7 problem, or just project acting funny for some reason any.  If I have to finish this project under XP, so be it, but I noticed improvements in the time of rendering, etc. with Windows 7 and it uses actually our 8 GB of RAM, so I would stay with her as much as I can.  As I said, the other projects seem to be good.

  If anyone has any suggestions of something to try, let me know.

  Project sheet:

  CS4, 720 x 480, 24 fps, progressive, 48 k audio.  All clips are decompressed notice leave After effects.  The audio is mostly mono WAVs 48 k, with a few mp3s mixed in.

  I'd be surprised if this will help, but it's a small effort and you do not hit anything if you don't shoot.

  In Explorer to go to the directory that contains your project and source of the material, do a right-click on this directory, select Properties, go to the Security tab and make sure you have full control. If this is not the case, change the settings that you have total control.

  I had once a screwup that caused may rights of access to be contaminated. This helped me to solve it.

  Unrelated to the question: you have multiple Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in is installed - some navigation problems may be experienced with several versions of the same plugin. Uninstall older versions.

  The Web site may use autocomplete = off to prevent Firefox to record the name and the password.

  You can remove autocomplete = off with a bookmarklet to register the name and the password of Firefox.
