My CD & DVD players disappeared from Vista 32.

My computer has a triple boot of installation; Vista 64, Vista 32 & XP.
Currently, Vista 64 and XP are both able to use CD & DVD players.
Vista 32 is a clean install which, initially, recognized readers
and behaved normally.  After installing the ATI for the XFX HD 4350 driver
card video through the graphical installer, ATI Catalyst, readers have disappeared.
Setup of catalyst has also loaded "distributedables studio 2005" along the
pilot.

Not only does the Device Manager lists them specific readers but it is not yet
the CD/DVD drive category list.

Please notify.

    Hello

    I have a laptop Portege A600-133.
First of all, it is slow at the opening of my computer screen.

Second: after ejecting a disc dvd or cd, Windows still shows the contents of the disc, the system hangs for a while, a USB unplug sound can be heard and the dvd player disappears from Windows (in my computer / Explorer / Device Manager)

    What this may be?

I did already the round of upper/lower filters in the registry, but it does not solve the problem...
I opened the computer laptop and checked the wiring to the dvd drive, cleaned the contacts, supported on the connectors.

But the problem is still there...

    Hello

My first idea was to remove the upper and lower registry key filters, but it seems that you have already done this.

Nevertheless, here is a knowledge of MS on the upper and lower filters article mentioned.

Hmm if the unit is not present in the device manager then this means that the device is not connected or he's dead

You should check if the ODD (optical disc) is recognized in the BIOS.
You should also check if it of possible to boot from the bootable CD.

If this is not possible then it may mean that your WEIRD malfunction

I'm new to this, so please be patient. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium OS on a Dell XPS M1210 laptop. I tried to burn my first DVD. • DVD ROM disappeared from the computer and VISTA Device Manager

    Hello

I know there are a lot of discussions on the same topic, but I read everything and still my problem persists.

I'm pretty sure that the problem occurred after installing iTunes. The DVD ROM is no longer accessible on my laptop. The light flashes and the attempts to start a disk, but then nothing.

I was in the high register looking for filters and bass to remove (such as published in the number of threads). I found only UpperFilters which I deleted but still nothing. I also tried Microsoft FixIt but does not have the ROM either.

What to do next? Can anyone help? He began to depress me now.

Well, I have solved my problem. After trying everything I read and was advised to try.

I simply unplugged the laptop and handed. Then, I reviewed the reader noticing only so slightly, I could see the silver housing of the reader. So I applied a bit of pressure, pushing the player to the laptop so that I could see is no longer the silver case.

I have not for a minute think that might be the problem. Once the laptop is started, Windows immediately installed the driver and open computer it was. DVD ROM restored.

Not sure if this may help someone of you guys, but if I post my "fix" :-)

    Where is he gone please?

    Hi @NorskYorkie,

Glad to see that you are using the HP forums, this is a great question other customers might wonder about too!

Although there are software to the new version of the operating system such as Windows 8 and Windows, CD/DVD, print front 10 has been omitted in the software, I think that this feature has been deprecated. You might be able to find a 3rd party screen software that allows you to print on CD/DVDs that you can download and use. I suggest using Google to see what is available. If you can't find anything, you can consider using this printer with an older operating system.

  • Driver DVD disappear from 'My computer' and 'Device Manager '.

Vista HP Portable DVD player continues to disappear from 'My computer' and 'Device Manager '. Already tried Upper/LowerFilters.

Hi, a few weeks ago, the DVD burner in the laptop suddenly disappearedmy computer (Windows Explorer).  The first thing I did was check theDevice Manager to see if the drive was there.  It was not the case.  Restarting the laptop did nothing.  Repeated several times, active Vista updates.  No change.  By checking the net, I tried to delete the Upper/LowerFilters in the registry, download it tool Microsoft fix , delete iTunes, do a system restore, to change all the parameters of thesleep and hibernation off and a few other things.  It appeared for the first time after that:

    1. Do a restore of the system for the first restore point.
    2. Remove the DVD writer.
    3. Restarting the laptop.
    4. Research of new hardware in Device Manager .
    5. Change all parameters of standby and Hibernate off. (I tried this method without this step first, but the drive disappeared after the computer went to sleep and woke up.)  Tried 3 times with the same results).
    6. Closing.
    7. Reinsert the DVD burner.

On the next reboot, the DVD writer has been recognized and ended up in my computer and Device Manager .  No errors of any kind and no drivers were installed at startup.

What has happened since then, in the last 4 or 5 days, is randomly disappears from thedesktop .  Usually after a few hours or more.  This time, however, it usually appears inDevice Manager after a search of new material.  No reboot required.  It will read from a DVD .avi files each time.  It has not been detected byDevice Manager maybe about 2 or 3 times, and after a simple reboot, it will be present inmy computer and Device Manager automatically after a reboot.  I read that the superior/UpperFilter mark has worked for many people, but for some, the problem returns.  In addition, many of the discussions on this question and proofreading are years.  It happened about 10 days ago.  Within 2 days before the problem appeared first, it was an update of windows, but also an update of iTunes.

I noticed that I received this error when opening iTunes:

"The registry settings used by the iTunes for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can occur as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes. ''

I have not reinstalled, no DVD player.  Uninstalled itunes again.  Since I finally got the drive to appear (using the method I described above), I did bother to reinstall iTunes because I particularly need it on this computer, worried that it may be the cause of the original problem and I wanted to see if the disc disappears again.  I did do it, however, let QuickTime installed.  Don't know if this could be a problem?

I stumbled upon this suggestion, but I also had the same question as the next post, and I have not seen a response.  I don't know if or how I should try:

    Nikki,

You can not go back if the restore points aren't there. Try to reinstall the IDE driver.

    To do:
-Click on the round to start and right click on computer
-Left click on properties, this will open the system window
-Click on device high Managerin left
-Click on continue if prompted by UAC
-Goto the 'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers' you should right click on uninstall and restart

BTW that dog rox in this avitar

See you soon! MCP. MCDST. LVL 80

Hi, thanks for the comment on my puppy. She is now 5 MB and her name is Nikki, lol.

Well, I tried what you said, but the IDE ATA/ATAP controllers has a (+), so when I select it does give me not an option to uninstall. It is for me (analysis of the physical changes (or) properties).       and if I click on the (+) sign I have 4 different options. 2 channels IDE, Intel (R) 82801 HEM / HBM SATA AHCI controller and Intel(r) ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage controllers - 2850.

    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistahardware/thread/e3701d75-9dbe-4ae9-9d70-83f14129247c?Prof=required

What I see in "Device Manager", under IDE ATA/ATAP controllers is:

    IDE channel (x 4)

    Ricoh Memory Stick Controller

    Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller

    Ricoh xD-Picture Card Controller

Controller of PCI standard IDE dual channel (x 2)

The laptop is about 2 years and never had problems.  The DVD burner is hardly used to burn, maybe a total of 5 disks in this time.  It has been used occasionally to read or copy from, but not much.  I'm not convinced that he is dead, as I had 2 die on me in desktop computers, after burning hundreds of CDs in them and read much.

in any case, I was not able to find any bugs or suggestions (with the exception of 'replace' the reader), so I just wanted to describe my specific situation and see if anyone could help out.  Forgive me for information, I have left out, but I am an amateur when it comes to the problems with the computer and still don't know what mean things or where I can get information on my OS, software or hardware.  All anyone can do would be greatly appreciated.

This is the information I have:

    Hello

    1. do you have the software installed on the computer of CD/DVD burning?

Check if the CD/DVD drive is recognized in the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System).
Step 1: We also recommend to uninstall the CD/DVD burning software, if you have everything installed, restart the computer and check the result.
Scan for the device in Device Manager. To do this, try the following steps.
    1. click on start, type devmgmt.msc and press to enter.
    2. click on one of the items in the list, click the Action menu and click Scan for hardware changes.
    3. check if the CD/DVD is displayed.

For more assistance on this, contact the manufacturer of the laptop.

    Hello

For a new disk that should really be fixed/replaced under warranty.

You have disk problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD burning and)

  • My DVD device has "disappeared" from the COMPUTER screen page and is unusable/unrecognisable. Just gone.

I am running Vista.  My DVD drive is an Optiarc DVD +-RW AD - 5560 a ATA DEVICE.  This has happened in the past, I think that as a direct result of the execution of "update".  I am not very computer but I think it has something to do with the filters.  Dell has fixed this for me several times, but he continues to to and I would like to know the procedure to fix myself (off warranty and Dell charges a lot$ $$).  Yet once, when I click on COMPUTER, this device is simply not there.

    Hello

Please make all below even if you have done some before as it is often the set of operations which solves
    the question.

    Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or
slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

  • DVD RW drive disappears from the computer and the Device Manager on Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit

After upgrading Vista to Windows 7, my DVD RW drive will disappear from official view and computing device and a scan for changes on the material or use of the player will not solve. Resolves a reboot of the PC (HP - Sony DVD RW desktop computer).
It appears in the BIOS and when the first install Windows 7 found and the device manager reported everything is ok. It seems that after a power management feature has occurred and the PC wake up the disc is missing and the only way to return it is a restart.
    Help, please

Thanks for the info, I had seen it work elsewhere on the net for similar problems with Vista, but not of joy as the either the upper or lower part reg entries appear under this subkey. They do it for the disk subkey but no CDROM

Hibernation is disabled and I use power management to High Performance with only a screen sleep as a default 20 mintes and the hard drive after an hour of sleep. I upped since the two of them to see if that helps.
