DVD drive no longer works and disappears from MS explore

New "TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223C ATA Device" Samsung dvd player is visible in Windows Explorer after starting the machine.  He can see an audio CD.  However, when a DVD is inserted it reads very slowly, then stops and the drive is no longer visible in Windows Explorer.

I updated the firmware with a utility Samsung called Firmware Samsung ODD liveupdate, but this made no difference.

Hello

For a new disk that should really be fixed/replaced under warranty.

You have disk problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD burning and)
Playback of CD and DVD). So it is not unusual for parts from 1 or 2 to not work so that others do
correctly.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can try these but it seems that the drive has a hardware problem.

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

  • Portege R500 - CD/DVD drive no longer works

Does anyone found a resolution to this?

Like David, my DVD Multidrive on my R500 abruptly arrested recently - I can open/close the player, but he does not appear in Windows Explorer as a disk is valid. Do not think that I have nothing installed on the machine.

Interestingly, I never really use the DVD player. Indeed, because of all the * heat * questions, I used to "Power Off" of the device, via the DVD icon in the system tray (i.e. option enabled me to Power on / off the unit). So while the power was OFF, it's cold the machine, and so the fan was rarely on.

Now that my computer no longer recognizes the drive, this icon it simply shows that disabled, no possibility to the power on/off switch, and this noisy fan is almost always on. In addition, because it seems that the machine tries to recognize the drive subject time at startup, all re-start, reboot the machine now takes a few minutes to start...

For the optical drive firmware update help? Or is there some other fix?

Having too many CD/DVD programs can cause strange problems, especially if they're loading of parts of them.

  • The Satellite A series CD/DVD drive no longer works

I bought my computer Toshiba Satellite A of the series with Windows Vista installed. I removed Vista and installed windows XP on the computer.
Now, the dvd player does not work properly. When burning the DVD it burns only 6 percent and then gives the following message is displayed: "unspecified error".

I searched the internet for a solution, but the given solution does not work because the upper and lower filters must not be located in the file regedt32.exe.
Is there anyone who can tell me what to do and how this problem can be solved?

    Regarding, Jens Oolders

    Hello

I found the same information as the upper and lower values filter would have a bad influence on the use of CD/DVD drive.
    Many people have reported an improvement in performance after deleting the upper and lower filter of this registry key values;
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

To start the registration type please; RUN REGEDIT in the window.

After this procedure, you must restart the laptop again.

May I ask what burning program you use?
I would recommend Nero. It supports several different additional functions such as 'Test Drive' or ' control the speed in the car.
It all works to get performance better combustion.

Perhaps, you use switch to Nero and test different DVD from different vendors!

    Hello

Although my laptop X 200-191 is just 3 weeks, this afternoon the DVD player suddenly stopped working. When I insert a dvd, the drive makes sounds like it will play the DVD, then stops and nothing more happens. When I click on the DVD drive in 'my computer' section, the Player opens and asks you a DVD... It will not play music cd's.

I just installed a new (HD) driver for the DVD drive on the toshiba site, which should be compatible. I also tried to reinstall the previous driver, but the problem persists. I can't use the CD recovery either, for the reader DVD does not have to start the recovery cd...

  • DVD drive no longer works after the installation of PowerISO

I recently installed PowerISO and he took my physical DVD drive so I can't use it. The drive does not appear in Windows Explorer. The drive appears in the parameters of the material, but with the note that the driver has been disabled, and another driver provides functionality. There are questions on the net on this WRT to PowerISO (wish I had seen these before that I loaded it) but no real and tangible solutions. I tried to uninstall the device, reload the drivers and even bought a new DVD player and installed it but it happens with the same question. None of em fixed work. I did a complete refresh of BIOS and CMOS, nothing helps. Readers do not appear in the BIOS settings but show (with numbers) to the setting of the material. I also removed PowerISO, which did nothing. Then I re-installed and changed the setting Virtual Drive 'None' in thinking that this was taking on my physical drives. Nothing. So I still once uninstalled.

In addition, if the problem persists, can you check the following registry key? :

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

To the registry for this key, in the right window, in the world is here, under 'Name', a LowerFilters and UpperFilters value?

If so, for UpperFilters and LowerFilters, value which is listed under "data"?

There is most likely a bad entry in one of these values that would have made the installation or uninstallation of software.

I have a HP Pavilion computer to office model a6109n, product number GG038AA, S/N CNH7250K0M. I've been running Windows 7 for 2 years. My CD player recently stopped working. I can't attribute this failure to any specific event that would have led to it.  When a CD is inserted, the green light comes on for about 6 seconds then turns off. The CD player is not long represented on the 'My Computer' to readers list. The CD drive appears in Device Manager. I tried to roload the driver for CD drive, Windows gave a message stating that the best driver is already installed. I have no error message and ran three programs different viruses with no problems. I've also updated Windows available current configuration that has not solved the problem. Thinking it was a hardware problem, I checked the CD drive cable connections and that did not help.  I replaced the CD drive with a new drive for HP and had the same symptoms. I returned the new CD player and he traded for an external CD drive and had the same symptoms in all USB ports. I tried every USB port with a flash player and the flash player saved on my computer in all USB ports. If my CD drive is being recognized by the Device Manager but not in my computer. It's okay if it's an internal or external drive. Everything else on the computer works fine. More troubleshooting ideas?  Thank you.

By the way; on the Toshiba driver page, you will find the update of the firmware.

But as far as I know that you can not do one reveres firmware. After the new installation of the firmware, you will not be able to install an older version.

So in my opinion you shouldn't do any upgrade now. If you drive works so don t change anything ;)

    Hope these helps.
