My computer came with XP and then I asked my friend to reformat but it put win 7

I didn't like her and the computer can barely function.  I want XP back but do not have a disk to reboot to XP and don't know which site to trust for a download.  I then figure out how to reformat and re install everything, but this is what youtube is for.

You don't have enough RAM to run Windows 7 x 64.  See http://windows.microsoft.com/is-IS/windows7/products/system-requirements
You may be able to add more RAM (go to http://www.crucial.com/index.aspx and use the Scanner 'system' for more details).

If you want to go back to XP...

Turn off your computer.

Turn it on and watch carefully.  If you see a blue bar with the name of Dell in it, you still have the "hidden partition" and use Dell PC Restore to go back to the "factory fresh condition."

See this thread: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19286741.aspx

The process CTRL + F11 covered by this thread (using PC Restore) is described here: http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?c=us&l=en&s=gen&docid=DSN_181316&isLegacy=true

Note that the thread of community Dell is 2009; the Council is still topical, but I don't know if Dell is always ready to provide restore XP Media.

Note 2: If you use PC Restore, you will end up with your computer as it was when you bought it, including all software pre-installed by Dell test (but none of the updates of Windows or applications, you can subsequently installed).  Any software "free trial" won't work. It will have expired. It is therefore very important to eliminate entirely any Norton or Symantec application security by using the appropriate removal tool obtained from the site Internet Norton or Symantec and then install a modern antivirus application before connecting to the Internet.  In addition, depending on the age of your computer, you may not be able to use Windows Update until you manually install Service Pack 3.  If you decide to use PC Restore, you can post a new thread asking "How to upgrade after restoring XP sp xx" (where xx represents some pack service originally shipped with your computer).

Welcome to the community of Windows Vista answers.

    2. Select "Safe Mode with network" and then press ENTER.

There is no Vista free download legal available.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

Or borrow a good DVD (not Dell, HP, etc.) Vista.
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

I bought a brand new computer, so I can't remember if it came with a Vista installation CD or if this content is available online. As far as I know, the activation key was initially registered under my name.

Also, if I succeed at, go back to what it will do for installed programs. Should I install them again? What about programs that come with a limited number of licenses, as a McAfee antivirus?

    Hello

If you reinstall vista, you must reinstall all THE programs

Here are the different ways to reinstall Vista

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

    ____________________________________________________________

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

    __________________________________________________________

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

  • Tecra A9 came with Vista and XP, the disks - but can not activate XP

    Hello

I have a Tecra A9, it came with Vista Business pre-installed and on a recovery disk. It also came with a XP Recovery disk.

Part of the documentation in the box suggests that I should be able to simply install XP from the recovery disc. I tried this, but I can't activate XP. I called the number of Microsoft on the activation screens and entered all the numbers, but I then told me that there is an error and I should change my product key.

My laptop on a a Vista product key stuck on the bottom. So, I seems to be a little stuck.

The sheet that was in the box says:

"it's additionall equipped with a Windows XP Professional Recovery DVD - ROM that allows you to easily install this operating system on your own. To do this, follow the instructions on the packaging of the DVD of restoration"

Usefully, there is no instructions on the packaging of recovery DVDs, I expected maybe a XP product key or something... But clearly not.

    How should I proceed?
