'My Documents' filled with thousands of Microsoft system files

Hello
I'm working on Dell Inspiron 537 s wife, Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit.
His "My Documents" folder has 3 115 points. I appears that about 80% to 90% of the articles are tagged as Microsoft System files [MS cache, subprogrammes MSSE, etc etc.] Seems to go on 'miles' and the search for one his real documents is almost impossible. This OS has been installed since about 1 to 1 1/2 years trouble free. This problem is fairly new [last 2-3 months or more]. Is there a place to easily move these where they should be?

Don't know if this is related but to 'disk cleanup', the choice of "system memory dump files" is no longer with the rest.
Also, I remember several months changing his backup size allowed 'system restore' setting to 5%. It has been too big; 15-20% or more. That's all I can give you for now. Please let me know if you need more information.
Thank you very much
Mike

Thought I would better say what it was.  Somehow, the "My Documents" folder got out of its default setting. Just a matter of opening the 'My Documents' folder, right click on 'my documents' in the left pane, click on properties, click on restore default and 3015 these 3115 files get right back where they should be.

Thank you

M.

    Hi DonMay,

You have the installation files to your hard drive? Folder i386?

You need to change the path to the registry click Start-> Run & Type-> regedit-> ok-> navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\-> double click-> SourcePath-> enter the location of the reader.

    Also check-> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion-> SourcePath.

If the I386 directory is at C:\I386, the SourcePath value is C:\

or if the I386 directory is at C:\Win\I386, the SourcePath value is C:\Win.

    I hope this helps.

  • Lost in My Documents after the failure of the system files

I have a (~ 6 years old), Dell Precision Workstation 360 serice XP Pro pack 3. This morning when I got up the screens show vertical bands of color. Given zero has nothing - not even the selection screen or function key boot options to enter the bios Setup. In brief - not even a partial boot - just (double) monitors show the vertical lines of color. Encryption on the motherboard could have found death I took the C: drive and plugged into one another computer (XP) via one box drive external usb. In windows Explorer I can see just about everything that I expect to see on the drive except in the My Documents folder. I don't know what should be there, but the only in My Documents is the music of my pictures of my user name and user name. The only items in these folders are the XP sample music files and images. I did a search on the entire disk for a couple of files that I know should be in My Documents, but nothing was found. Since then, I ran a virus scan using Norton Internet Security, but he found no virus. I've got some critical files on this disc I need today. Stupid me - had not saved them in a few weeks, so a lot of work is missing.

Any assistance to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

It seems that there are file system corruption, after the failure of your hardware. Try some recovery software data (links below) or, if data is critical and expense is not a problem, don't take any chances and send the drive to a professional drive savers data recovery company.

As the title says, my temp folder fills with thousands of files labeled magick-*, ranging in size from 12 MB to nearly 100 MB. Cannot find malware. The files are created regularly, taking about 1 gig every 10 minutes approximately.

Found the problem. The files have been created and published by hcavserver.exe, apparently part of the software used for the Kodak Theatre HD player I use. Uninstalled and the problem disappeared.

System File Checker is not a universal solution, but it can help in certain situations.

You really ned to determine the nature of the error before deciding on solutions.

    Event Viewer reports

    1. normally, when an error occurs on your computer looking in Event Viewer should be your starting point to find a solution. More related system errors are recorded and get an exact copy of the relevant report is important. Unfortunately, is not easy to understand reports and most of the users computer need help with their interpretation. I have to say later interpretation.

2 Event Viewer includes three main newspapers of Windows. Here's the Application, security, and system. For purposes of troubleshooting system is by far the most important.

    3. to access the system log, select Start, Control Panel, administrative tools, Event Viewer, in the list on the left of the window select Windows and the system logs. Place the cursor on the system, right click and select filter current log. Check the front of the error and click OK and see you only reports errors. Click the Date and time column header to sort. You may need to click a second time to see the last report above.

    4. a tip for posting copies of error reports! Run Event Viewer and double-click the error you want to copy. Select the Details tab and check the box in front of the XML view. Click the copy button to place a copy in the Clipboard and close Event Viewer. Now start your message and paste it into the body of the message. Make sure that it is the first dough right out of the event viewer.

    5. He cautioned against three types of reports, information, and reports errors. In most situations, it is the error reports that offer the best information but sometimes WARNING reports provide useful clues.

    6. all reports have stamps date and hour and when troubleshooting, it is important to focus on the latest reports. Reports of studies from the point when the computer is started, and then check if a similar report appeared in the previous session. If errors do not repeat investigation as to why they happen is wasted effort.

    7. in the individual reports the most important information is the event ID and Source such as these help when looking for help on the internet. The description is just as important and copy the exact text to use as search criteria greatly helps achieve better results when using Google. Not paraphrase descriptions when other people asking for help.

    Hello

What is the brand and model of your computer?

I suggest you to please run DISM as suggested by ZigZag3143 (MS - MVP) on May 5, 2014. The DISM command will take some time to complete. I ask you to please be patient.

    a. press the Windows key + X.

    b. click prompt (run as administrator).

    c. the administrator: command prompt window, type the following commands. Press the enter key after each command:

    DISM.exe / Online/Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

    DISM.exe / Online/Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

    d. to close the administrator: command prompt window, type Exitand press enter.

I also suggest you to run Microsoft Safety Scanner to check for any infection by virus. Check out the following link to do the same thing.

Microsoft Safety Scanner - free online tool for PC health and safety

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

  • Windows 7 continues to write thousands of jpg files on c:\windows\serviceprofiles\networkservice\appdata\local\microsoft\media player\art cache\localmls subdirectory in the form of system files.

Let me describe what is happening. I used the 'get info' in iTunes to add various jpg work at the individual level of CD (i.e. selecting song at the same time) multiple.  ITunes displays the work very well and works very well. Over a period of time, I noticed deterioration in system performance and when I tried to create a disc using CMS Bounceback Ultimate image has noticed that the number of files on my hard drive had increased from 250,000 to about 1 000 000. After much research and a bit of luck, I determined that Windows 7 has written these JPGs repeatedly in the subdirectory cache\localmls of c:\windows\serviceprofiles\networkservice\appdata\local\microsoft\media player\art. These are the same files jpg, I added in iTunes. When I discovered, there are about 700,000 of these small files in this subdirectory in the form of system files which are hidden files. I was able to remove these files first reset file attributes (attrib s h - r *.jpg) and using the del command. Unfortunately, the system continues to write the same files in the same sub and a few hours, I have thousands of these files written again. I checked the system for virus/malware using the latest versions of sophos, malwarebytes, and spy hunter. There is no malware reported by one of these programs.  I also stopped Sophos and tried again but the problem persists. I have also rebuilt iTunes library by following the steps described by Apple, but this does not solve the problem. Any suggestions I can try next?

If not, perhaps, you create a batch file to run at startup or schedule tasks to remove *.jpg files that appear in this folder?

An approximate example of a batch file would be in this sense. It would be created in Notepad but recorded in a .bat file.

    C:
    CD "windows\serviceprofiles\networkservice\appdata\local\microsoft\media player\art cache\localmls".
    DEL *.jpg

    pause

This is only a rough guide and may need a lot of amendments by you that I'm not familiar with batch files, but it shouldn't be too hard to do.  The batch by operating manually or in scheduled tasks file would need administrative privileges or the localmls access permissions set properly for the user.

    Hello

    Thanks for the reply.

If you are able to get to the screen, then you can perform

You can check the disk for errors and repair problems related to bad sectors, lost clusters, reticulate files and directory errors.

Check a drive for errors: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Check-a-drive-for-errors

Important: while performing the check disk on the hard disk, if bad sectors can be found, then check disk will try to repair this sector. All the data available in this area may be lost.

In addition, you can also scan the computer using Windows Defender in offline mode.

Windows Defender offline because it can help eliminate hard to find malicious and potentially unwanted programs using definitions that recognize the threats. The virus scan done offline using Windows Defender is different because the scan is done outside of the Windows environment.

Definitions are files that provide an encyclopedia of potential software threats. Armed with definition files, Windows Defender in offline mode can detect malicious and potentially unwanted software and then inform you of the risks.

What is Windows Defender Offline?: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/what-is-windows-defender-offline

Note: There could be a loss of data while performing a mode offline scan using Windows Defender to remove viruses as appropriate.

    Hello

    1. which version of the operating system is installed on your computer?

2 did you change on your computer before the show?

This could be caused because the computer might be infected by the virus.

Download Microsoft Safety Scanner, then scan your computer for viruses and malware then check how it works.

You can download Microsoft Safety Scanner from the link "scan to Microsoft Security.

Note:  The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again. try to run the sfc/scannow command. to repair the corrupted system files

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally madeprograms, Accessories, right-click guest, and then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or clickallow.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

  • "Windows services Centre" call by saying that I have a problem with my internal security system

    Hello

I received a phone call from 'Windows Service Centre', James Henderson, employee of 406-235-1159, phone number #7098 (Yes, that's an indication 406 and 416 - which is one of the reasons why I'm suspicious), but gave a speech in Mississauga (Ontario), saying that I have a problem with my internal security system and even if www.ammyy.com I need to talk to the technician to solve this problem. I do not trust him and hang up, but called the number, responded to the same person (as he had an Indian accent with a lisp in addition to this) and he said that Joseph and not James!
    Scam or what? Thank you

It is a scam! Who is becoming extremely common and was even on the news in some places. As long as you don't give them any personal information, you should be fine. Should they call once again, simply hang up.
