My file extensions have all been replaced by "lnk". How to reverse extensions to what they were previouslyn?
I don't know how my file extensions have been changed to "lnk". I don't know what should be the extension of each file. How can I change file extensions to what they should be?
LNK is not a problem in itself. It is simply a shortcut file. For example, you have a lot of shortcuts on your desktop, open your Media Player or web browser.

I don't know how it happened but one night, I unplugged my external hard drive, and I remember vaguely the prompt being opened by accident after I plugged the external drive again the next day. The computer says my drive needed for formatting, that does not make sense because my drive was not related at the time. Well, when I reconnected my drive and restarted the computer, each folder in my external hard drive, I created in recent months, had been changed to shortcuts by the computer. The target location for each folder on my external hard drive and readers flash is (C:\Windows\System32). So whenever I click on a folder for documents, it will open in another screen, but I can't ever see as a folder only content inside, I need to find a way to cancel some setting in my computer that changes every folder I creat in a shortcut that reads-card: cmd (C:\Windows\System32)
Hi Gordon Gekko.
It seems that the data on the hard drive is damaged. I suggest you plug the drive on another computer or another port on the same computer to see if the data is accessible.
If you take a backup of the data in the drive and try to format the drive.
For more information, see the following link:
Formatting disks and drives: frequently asked questions

You can also use your favorite search engine to download third party software to recover the data and then format the drive, so it's is more corrupt.
Note: The use of third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.
Hope this information is useful.

I accidentally deleted files from a flash drive without looking at what they were; is there a way to view a history of the measures taken with regard to the changes to the file? Already I have saved new files on my flash drive so I do not expect to recover the lost files, I just want to know which have been deleted.

You can use File Undelete tools to see which files are recoverable without actually restoring courses.

I had a computer crash and made a new installation of Win7 and restoring all files to Carbonite. I managed to get 5 LR running in LR. However, I don't know that I have all my previous catalogs. How can I find my catalogs to make sure I have a complete inventory of all my catalogs.
If you have downloaded all the files Carbonite, then the question is, are your catalog never included in the Carbonite backup in the first place?
If so, then all you have to do is look for *. LRCAT file.

How can I stop Windows Vista Search Results including files that have already been deleted?
I use Windows Vista Home Premium Version 6.0. When I use the windows search feature (navigate from the 'new' start icon) search results include files that have been deleted. This is quite annoying because it dilutes the value of the search result.
Does anyone have a solution to this? I have seen similar posts but no real solutions... any help would be much appreciated! THX

Impossible to delete files that have already been deleted?
There are about a dozen files on my computer that I can't get rid of. They are all 0 bytes long. I think I tried to remove them and their data has been deleted, but the filenames themselves could not be removed because they contain illegal characters.
Here is the set of characters used for file names.

Here's the message I don't understand why I try to delete them, open them, rename them, edit them, move them or do something with them.
This item was not found.
It is no longer in C:\Users\ShadeSwan\Downloads. Check the location of the item and try again.
Name (text) file type: file size: 0 bytes updated the: 01/01/2014 12:01 AM
Then try to Cancel
I tried to recreate the files by doing a new text file and save under the same name of the files with no data. It seems to work at first (one of the two files will disappear), but when I remove the file or rename it or change it in any way originally undeletable reappears. I can't delete, open them, rename them, edit them or move them by starting a different OS on Virtualbox and access the folder they are in.
I'm about to leave Windows for Linux. I never had no problem doing something as simple as deleting a freaking Linux file.
- Go to start, search cmd, right click and click "Run as Administrator".
- Type "chkdsk /f" and press enter
- Answer 'Y' to the question and press to enter.
- Restart when you have to run the error checking.
Note: you can also check the hard drive for bad sectors, but this may take several hours. You can use chkdsk/r. -
I inserted the memory card from my digital camera in the slot on my HP laptop. I went into my computer and 'file' tab and press "copy". He asked a folder name called 'Photos '. I then went in the 'photos' file and it says it's empty. I then inserted the memory card in my camera and were not the picture about it. I am so upset... There are 665 photos that can never be replaced. What should I do?
Hello
The operating system that you are running on your computer?
You may have set the option "Erase after importing" when importing the photos. At the end of the import process, then pictures should appear in the Windows Photo Viewer.
Open the Windows Photo Viewer and check if you can see these photos.

I'm in desperate need of storage so I need to know before you start deleting all the files.
You copied the files on the TC directly... you don't mean in TM backups?
What files are you talking about because some applications are NOT supposed to work network... for example APA iphoto and photo storage.
You must also remember to backup... TM can back up files to a TC.
You may end up losing your files, so be very careful... It is better to use a fast USB... plugged into your computer and then add it to your TM backups.

Can I remove the old update files that have already been applied?
Good evening! I just a quick may be a dumb question... when I've updated my computer, if I remove the before update... like when a service pack number, as for example I downloaded the number of service pack 2 What do I do with the number of the service pack 1? delete it?
Depends on the operating system - Windows
Please note this is only for Windows XP and is not on Vista or Windows 7
Folders that have uninstall as part of the name (for example $NtUninstallKB282010$ who reside in C:\windows (hidden files) are window Hot difficulty updating folders/files) can be removed safely (providing ever, you wish to uninstall the updates). I recommend you leave these records for a period of at least one month to make sure that the update works correctly.
These updates can be removed individually or together. To learn more about the update/s go on:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/xxxxxx
NB: XXXXXX = the actual number, not to mention the "Q" or "Ko."Once you have removed the uninstall folders/files, then go to control panel, add/remove programs. Select the title of the corresponding Windows fix on the folder/file of the patch you just deleted, and select Delete. You will get a Windows error. This is because you deleted the uninstall folder/files. Simply choose OK and the entry will be removed from the Add/Remove Programs list.
Don't NOT delete the folder $ $hf_mig

XP SP3: Post Installation Cleanup
http://aumha.NET/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=33827For Vista and Windows 7
The update uninstall method in Windows Vista is quite different from that in Windows XP.
Uninstaller for each update folder no longer exists in Vista and the uninstall information is stored by the Volume Shadow Copy service.
After each update, Volume Shadow Copy service backup only the updated files.
So with Vista, it's a differential backup, rather than a full backup files for uninstall
in Windows XP.This safeguard mechanism is used to save disk space.
So basically, you are unable to manually delete the uninstall it from the computer.

I was using just my computer as always this morning. Using Vista on a HP computer I've owned for nearly three years. Never had a problem like this before.
All of a sudden all my folders on the desktop and in the windows file has appeared as black squares. I restarted my computer and the black squares are still there.
I went to tools in the menu bar and tried to change the appearance of the icons file but cannot change.
I clicked on the classic files and tried to apply it to all files without success.
Help, please.

You could start with new photos which gives you a good idea for the application and use of cursors to develop. The change of Lightroom is completely non-destructive. All changes are stored in a database (catalog) so your original is never touched. Perhaps you could bring more old photos already on your computer, a file at a time, when you're ready. Use Import > Add.
To import new photos from a camera or card use Import > copy
