my HL-DT-ST DVD + - RW - GSA - H31 SCSI CD-ROM drive doesn't read/burn discs...

... It is installed in an Inspiron 531 s (OEM 2007) I think I've tried almost everything - the drivers are up to date, I have uninstalled & reinstalled it, physically, too. Everything seems OK, but nothing works, except that I can open the tray put a disc in and it closes and disc, CD, CD, CD - R, DVD, it is there and nothing really happens, except a window comes up with 'Please insert a disc '. I used it very heavy and burned about 1000 to 1100 drives, until I started having problems with blank CD - Rs. I tried to use different brands of blank discs, but it is eventually died. In addition, an icon 'Remove hardware safely' is in my toolbar in the right hand with my time and network icons. I am running Vista Home Premium OS.

If the laser in the burner burned?

What can or should I replace it with?

You have confirmed the player is bad and must be replaced.

  • Satellite U400-112 CD/DVD optical drive doesn't read CD disks

Same problem, my CD/DVD drive doesn't read any cd, but it works with the DVD. Same problem if I try to burn CDs (it does not work, clear yellow on the drive and the drive gets hard blue light on the laptop (U305) permanently on) but it's ok to burn DVDs, even if it takes long to start reading a new dvd. How to solve it? I tried to find a new firmware for the drive, but apparently does not exist (my drive is HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-U10N ATA device). Can anyone help? .

    HI Arkadiusz Kulesza,

You should try to clean the lens using a microfibre cloth. Maybe dust is on the lens it takes long to start to read the disc.

I had a similar issue that he wasn t possible to burn a DVD and the reason was the CD/DVD drive itself. I replaced it with a new one and everything worked then! :)

  • DVD / CD-Rom drive will not read disks.

    I don't know if it's a hardware problem or a software problem.

When I put a disc in, it runs for 1-2 seconds, stops, turns for 1-2 seconds, stops, turns for like 1-2 seconds, stops (model repeats 3 times at once) and then silence.

After trying several times to put in and taking the disc, it runs at full speed and I knew that it is a success that it's reading the disc to replay the video. But why it fails then back working again constantly. Solution?

Also, when my computer is in "sleep" and I wake up, disk she could read his way 'sleep' cannot be detected anymore. Solution?

The drive model is HP DVD Ram UJ8A2.

I tried all the solutions software. None of them worked. I have actually used a piece of tissue paper to gently clean the DVD / CD lens a few times and now it works fine. I think the lens must attend a gentle cleaning. Resolved issues.

  • DVD drive can not read some discs

So I have scowered the Internet trying to find an answer to my problem, but everyone always seems to have the same problem except theirs is slightly different so their solutions don't work for me.

My problem is that my DVD drive (f) works perfectly fine except when I put the CD - RW that I used to save files to my old Toshiba laptop, my laptop (also a Toshiba) seems to ignore my CD drive (d), but which has never really bothered before.

So my DVD player works perfectly fine for other CD or DVD that I put in, it's only the CD that I used on my old laptop. When I put one in, I can hear it trying to read the CD, then it's just a few stops, when I double click to open the drive, it just comes up with a message saying "Please insert a disc into drive F:."

The CD works perfectly well on my dads, which is also a Vista laptop so I do not understand why mine doesn't seem to like their reading.

Any help would be greatly appreciated I need the contents of the CD to my university work.

    Thank you.

    Hello

CD have a tolerance + - and your must read on the edge out of the tolerance of these discs. They can be given
However, it is generally more economical to replace the disk that can or mentioned read those.

  • Matshita DVD RAM UJ850s ATA optical drive will not read burned media, running Vista

    * original title - CD/DVD unit read not "burned" cd *.

Hi, there are about 6 weeks, I had to do a recovery because a virus in my PC, the problem is that now the optical unit reads no CD, it reads 'original' CD, DVD (original and burned) but not burned CD specially those who have programs on them, could be a driver problem, but so far I have not been able to solve the problem , and I m not sure the original driver are in Sony's site, or any other Web site.

PS the thing Burns CD and they can be read after that that they were "closed".

I have a VAIO VGN-N330FH, running Vista Home Basic 32 bit (Spanish), the model is a Matshita DVD RAM UJ850s ATA Device.

    Hello

You have disk problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD burning and)
Playback of CD and DVD). So it is not unusual for parts from 1 or 2 to not work so that others do
    correctly.

Burning at low speed, or by using the master could help. A CD/DVD cleaner might help.

Brand of the CD or DVD drive can also be the problem. Low quality (cheap brands) are always problematic.

CD/DVDs have a tolerance + - and your can read/write on the edge outside these discs
tolerances. They may be delivered, but it is generally more economical to replace the disk.

  • My dvd drive doesn't read disks?

I'm on Windows XP Edition family with Media Center and endowed of all three service packs and updates.  The drive is a Sony DVD + RW DW Q58A.

I tried a disc of data of a show, I was in, but the disc won't admit there is data on the disc in the drive.  I tried the all new factory install disks (who worked three weeks when I installed new hardware, they came with), CDs from multiple manufacturers that I myself, had burned the original factory delivers Bo to my favorite show on CD and even the recorded data files drive my friend saved for me.  None of them would play; I continue to see the DVD - ROM icon go to a disk, but it shows 0 bytes free and total 0 bytes, IF it bothers recognize the drive at all.  I can't open the disk in Windows Explorer; There is nothing except an empty window.

~ I did the thing to uninstall/reinstall device; no luck

~ I tried to update/restore to the driver; the one I have is the only integer

~ I tried the Mr FixIt option, but still HE always tells me that my disks are not readable, although I know full well they should be.  The only thing I can think of that may have messed with things is that I accidentally deleted my CD burning software pre-installed.  However, I did go back and redownload/install, so that shouldn't be a problem.

    * Update: I managed to somehow get a frying play-off-the Bo TV disc once out of maybe 15 times, I tried to play it.  The spinning drive and it will read the disk enough to tell me the name of the song and its duration, but Mr FixIT don't like this drive if I try and run the automated thing.

I think it's time for a new drive, but I hope I can kickstart it to life.  Any suggestions would be helpful.
