My HP Photosmart C4680 was possessed by the devil

My touch screen is displayed that it is scanning, even if it's not and I didn't ask to. When I try to restart, it lights up at the main menu for about 45 seconds and then it goes to the menu scanning, then it asks to insert a memory card, and finally he goes to this indicator of scanning.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software. It shows online on my Windows XP Control Panel, but unless I catch him until she started it, it won't print. The only way to stop him is to pull on the power cord and wait and reconnect it. But he does just over and over again.

Has anyone ever heard talk about this?

Regarding the response of CamelJockey on May 20, 2011, regarding the capacitor bad, I just sat and created this user account in the express purpose to check everything that was in response to this post.

In short, I had exactly the same problem.

Bad cap.

Followed the instructions, opens the C4680 and he sat the the small 330μF 6.3V capacitor TEAPO, with a high domed grimly in the flat view. All other capacitors (small things can - research) had on beautiful dishes with zero curve or bulge in them and there was no problem whatsoever in the identification of the odd man out.

Broken the capacitor incriminated, led up to my local MOM and the supply store electronic pop that has been there for the last four decades and got a replacement that differ only by the voltage (10v).

Went to Sears and bought a good craftsman 150/230 watt iron to be welded (which came with a few nice welding Tin/Silver, tips and a levy which has proved to be indispensable (the sons of the new CAP were a bit larger than the original, and the holes left of the removal of the badly needed CAP weenciest of bore little on)) , came home and made replacement in the near future, shot to the top of the printer and it worked PERFECTLY!

Hallelujah!

My hat is out of CamelJockey of the piece seamless from boards.

And for everyone out there who may be scared to pick up the torx screwdriver and open their printer, don't be afraid. Work slowly, carefully, the son who must be separated from the spirit (those with little plastic plugs is fairly simple and the dish simply pull and push) and in no time you will have the small circuit board by hand, with the faulty capacitor on your mercy, ready to be removed and replaced.

If you have never soldered before, no worries, it is not difficult. The spirit of the hot tool, be aware that you want to place the tip of the soldering gun heat ONLY IN THE WIRE going to the condenser down with its roots where it plunges into the circuit board and be patient for a minute or three to rest the hot tip of the soldering iron on this thread, giving the heat time to work its way into things enough to melt the solder and exit and then reconnect the two sons, one at a time. Work with pliers to nozzles. Be gentle. Be patient. Maybe the practice on dead equipment taken you aside get everything first, just for a little bit the hang of things. Google some YouTube tutorials if you're still not quite sure or confident and in no time, you'll be ready to go.

The full cost of the work, new brand solder included, is way less than the cost of a new printer, so what are you waiting for?

Go there!

Once again, a thousand thanks to CamelJockey and brazing all happy!

  • Photosmart C4680: Photosmart C4680 on homegroup printer-considered, but not scanner

My home network includes a Dell XPS-18 running Windows 8.1 Pro and a Toshiba Satellite running Windows 7 Home.  Our Photosmart C4680 is connected to the Toshiba by USB.  It is shared and is available on the network.  It is used by the XPS for printing and never a problem as long as the Toshiba's online.

However, I can't find a scanner.  I used it for printing without having to install any software.  When I couldn't find as a scanner, I have installed on the XPS, the HP software suite which is available for download from the HP site, in the hope, there was a special driver for scanning, which would be added.  But that does not change.

The Toshiba can scan from the C4680.  And I can connect to the XPS via USB and also find a scanner by, for example, opening Paint.net and go to "file |" Acquire | From a scanner or camera.  But when the printer is shared via network it is not considered a scanner on the XPS, although I can print to it.

How can I use it as a scanner on the network?

    Hello

MS Windows alow God a printer or files and folders, there are not any sharing scanner capabilities.

Scanning can only be done from the PC that have plugged USB cable, to scan multiple computers, you will need a network connected device, it can be done with a USB device.

My old computer has a program called HP solution center this permit scan me to PDF.  The new configuration of hp can only scan to the size of the photo. How can I fix it, so can scan documents to pdf format?

Hi, you probably need "Full Feature software and Derivers" at the following link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4062&lc=en&cc=au&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3739150#N193 if still does not work. Please try to download and install for free a product called PDF24. You can open this program and import from a scanner, you can also use this program to edit the scanned or as pdf documents. Here is the link to download: http://en.pdf24.org/pdf-editor.jsp best regards.

    Hi Colin,

    Thanks for the information.

It seems that this problem is hardware related. Misaligned cartridges can do that.

Please refer to the procedure described in the following link to resolve this problem.

  • The connection failure Photosmart c4680 to PC via USB on Vista

I just bought a new Photosmart c4680, applied the drivers from the cd and when I tried to install the USB and start using the printer.  I entered 'Add a device - Photosmart C4600 series' and follow the two steps - 1. Make sure that the device is powered on and 2. Connect the USB cable. When I plugged the cable I got the following message 'USB device not recognized '. Then I reinstalled all the drivers for the printer and received the same message. I thought that the problem is the USB cable, because I use one of my old HP printer.  I went to the store to buy a new cable, but when I explained the problem to the Adviser he assured me that I have to find another solution, because if the cable works with the printer older there is no reason to not work with the new.

So I need help, definition of the connection.

I bought a USB cable and everything is ok now.

    It works!

And you were right, I had to uninstall and reinstall the PhotoSmart software before you install the OCR software.  I had updated to version 13 of PhotoSmart 12 version that was on the CD supplied with the printer.  I got the message "OCR application is not required" when I tried to install on version 13.   Uninstall and revert to the version 12 allowed me to then install the OCR.  I'll go with version 12, it has everything I need.

I think it is strange that HP it so hard.  After successful installation, I changed from a customer who felt he was ripped off (after being sold nonexistent OCR) to a satisfied customer!  HP should at least have a link of his C4680 software page to the OCR software and indicates the software OCR is working on the C4600 series.

Anyway, thanks a lot rhanman for your help and for the time and effort in replying to my query.  I greatly appreciate it.

  • HP Photosmart C4680 problem

In recent days, I noticed that my Photosmart C4680 is blower bike itself on and off.  Anyone else have this same problem?

Does anyone know why its doing?  Y at - it a solution?

Just do the repair. It was a bad capacitor on the logic board (TEAPO brand). There's that one to replace on this printer and it will probably look like curved on top (which indicates which are blown).  It is 330uF 6.3V, but I got in a little bigger (16V, whatever they had in 330uF) and it works perfectly now. It's an easy fix, if you aren't afraid of soldering a component. It will cost about 60 c with a value of components. (and a kit of solder so you do not have a)

Open the scanner cover and the door of replacement ink. Reach behind the control panel and gently push a clip for the exit sign. He will reveal a hidden torx screw. There are four total screws to remove the top, and you can use a torx bit, or if no practice, the right to an allen key size.

Once you get the top up the rest of the printer, you must pull carefully on some connectors that attach to the logical map of its orbits. Some are simply Ribbon connectors and some wire connectors. Set the top aside.

Identify the bad capacitor on the Board by checking the upper surface. It is a green, a thin color that says TEAPO on it and if it is indeed the defective component it must feel to be curved on top.

Remove all the other connectors on the Board and unscrew 3 torx screws to remove the Board of Directors of the printer.

To unsolder the bad capacitor, it can be easier at first it break so you can extract each lead with pliers, one at a time when the application of heat on the side welding.

Respect the polarity, the negative side (identified by the sign on the new capacitor less) on the shady side to the Board of Directors.

Solder the new capacitor, clip wide leads, any excess back together. Your ' e did!   Good luck!

  • Missing cartridges on Photosmart C4680 printer... It work?

I have a HP Photosmart C4680 printer that appears in great shape.  It was given to me by a third party.  The two print cartridges and power cord are missing.  I have no idea if this printer will actually print.

    1. Assuming I can start her, is it possible to determine if it will print before you run out and spend the money on 2 new cartridges?
    2. Can I use a power cord to similar research?  I have one who comes from a different model of printer but seems similar.

    Thank you!

There is no way to determine if the printer print without cartridges from the printer. If the cord will work for the printer you use.

Let me know how it goes.

  • HP Photosmart C4680 duplexer

I have a HP photosmart C4680 pinter and I tried to understand what duplexer is compatible with it. I was going to buy this one: http://www.amazon.com/HP-Duplexer/dp/B0018WRNN6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1294256308&sr=8-2 because it seems to be the only one who would possibly fit (based on the form) but I contacted the seller to be sure and I was told that it was not compatible. Does anyone know what duplexer will correspond to this printer?

    Hello Hopperms,

I was a bit confused by your response, so I checked with a few collages to be sure. And really, the C4680 does not support a duplexer. The body of the printer can have the possibility to connect a duplexer, but this is probably due to the standard body used for different models of printers. This means that you can put a duplexer, but the unit will not know what to do with it. Sorry to disappoint you.

  • Cannot figure out how to connect HP Photosmart C4680 to my network without Setup CD

Currently, I moved to a new apartment and I am now trying to set up my HP Photosmart C4680 printer. I have problems connecting my printer to my network wireless with my MacBook Pro computer. The current version is 10.6. I downloaded and installed all necessary drivers and software from the Web site: HP's Web Site. When I go into the installation process he never asked if I want to connect the printer to a wireless network. I just blazes through the installation and said: "Congratulations!" You have successfully installed Photosmart C4600 series." I called HP and they said they can help but its going to cost money because my printer is no longer under warranty. I hope someone could shed some light on my situation.

So I thought to it. My girlfriend and I just moved into an apartment together and I both are "identical" printers in my office. After a full day of trying to get the first printer to work, I looked at mine and saw a sticker on the front of it wireless. I watched his and realized that his is not the sticker wireless. Then I looked at the model numbers and realized his is a HP Photosmart C4680 and mine is a HP Photosmart C4780. So what I did, I used his MacBook Pro (Version 10.6.8) to download the software for the HP Photosmart C4780 from the HP Web site. I have connected feel to the Mac via USB and begin the installation. During installation, it asked if I wanted to set up the printer to a wireless network. I said "Sure!" He asked for the network I want to use and then set up the printer to the network. Then I had to go to "Print & Fax" in "System Preferences" to add the printer. After that, I was ready.

  • Drivers and software for Photosmart C4680 not compatible

I have upgraded to Windows Pro 8.1 (32 bit) and I was told that I had to update my drivers and software for my HP Photosmart C4680 printer to work with Pro 8.1. So I uninstalled all the drivers and software and even made a record of cleaning for you ensure that it has been uninstalled. I went to the HP support as suggested Pro 8.1 and proceed to download the software "compatible" and he went out and reached 99%, then disappear. I waited 15 minutes to see if he would have done to install and nothing happened. I did the Compatibility Test for it on 8.1 Pro and he says it's not compatible with 8.1. What gives and how I get this to install and works so I can use my printer?

    3. type hpoins*.dat in the search bar at top, if there is that no result rename the extention in old instead of dat. (e.g. hpoins1.old)
    4. type hpwins*.dat in the search bar at top, if there is that no result rename the extention in old instead of dat. (e.g. hpwins1.old)
    5. start the Run dialog box by clicking the Windows key and the R key on your keyboard. Type MSIEXEC /Unregister. in the Run dialog box and click OK.
