  If this does not fix it you can rename the pending.xml file and restart.  To do this, boot from the DVD and enter the command line.  Then type:
  CD windows\winsxs - press on enter
  Ren pending.xml pending.old - press on enter

  Then restart the system.

  I have a HP tablet PC laptop vista a little home less than 2 years. I downloaded the updates, I unfortunately don't know what they where. My laptop was asked to restart I did. I backed everything up, so if I could get it just to run the boot disk I would take if I had to. Can anyone think of anything to do for her?

  After you install the updates available for me on December 9, 2009, Windows Update wanted the computer to restart to complete the installation. I made and went on my merry way.
