My Windows 7 Search is broken.
Hello. On a few weeks ago, my Windows 7 search has stopped working properly. No matter what I type in, it always gives me a list of these system as 'Programs', 'Documents' etc. subfolders, but never the thing I'm looking for. I searched a little bit online and have met countless unsolved and unanswered forum posts, as well as a few "solutions" I've tried, without success. For example, I have finished the search index, which was suggested on a few sites, but that doesn't seem to have changed a thing. If anyone can provide any assistance in this regard, I would be very grateful.
Hello
There was a mess of forum over the weekend and no one could check on
the nets that they are involved in and the number of threads like this,
got lost in the maze.
Please, did you really do all of the methods suggested in this thread?
Since you've done a repair install then the only thing I can think of if you have
something in GroupPolicy (GPedit) If you use professional or ultimate edition or
you have a program (antivirus/security) or others that block
the service. It should definitely be there even if does not not otherwise.
You may need to backup your data and do a clean install. In order to check if
to be sure research works as you add your programs.

Windows Desktop Search 4.0 how to format the column Date in results?
Is it possible to change the date column in the result pane of Windows Desktop Search 4.0?
It runs on a Windows 2003 Enterprise Server.
I have users who need to modify files that arrived today and yesterday, after 17:00. The date column only displays the time on files including today's date. Is there a registry setting that I can shape for this column to always display the Date and time?
Kind regards

Uninstall Windows Desktop Search.
How to uninstall Windows Desktop Search? It was fairly easy to install, I don't even remember how to do it. It does not appear in Add / Remove from the control panel.
Hi Charles,
you have learned what I and many others have also learned the hard way... usually Reg editors damage much more than good. That said, I advise you to do a system restore to before you used it, or you may need to reinstall a victory.

Windows Desktop Search gaps in the entire office vs specific folder search
I am running Windows XP Pro on a laptop, and have installed WDS. If I search for a file from the Windows taskbar, it shows a file in my folder. If I click find on the file menu bar, (which opens from WDS, but specifies to search only in this case), it says that the file is not there. I tripled checked, closed the windows and searched again, with the same results. The 'version' of WDS that appears when looking for a specific folder, do not use the same index using the search bar? Advice on the resolution of this conflict?

Indices from scratch whenever I connect to Windows Desktop Search.
Hello
I was frustrated for a while because my PC seems to work for centuries after the start to the top. Now, I realized that this is because Windows Desktop Search indexes from scratch every time. It takes more than an hour for about 65 000 items in the index and then works fine. But when I switch the computer the next time I log on the number of indexed items is zero and it starts indexing all over again.
I deleted Windows Search and re-installed the latest version, but it's still the case. Surely, it should contain the elements previously indexed.
Any ideas on what I should do?Hi, John Robert E.
· Do you remember recent changes made to your computer before the show?
· What is the service pack installed on the computer?
Rebuild indexing on your computer and check the results:
a. click on start
b. click Control Panel
c. Select indexing options
d. Select the Advanced tab
e. Select rebuild.

How can I stop Windows Vista Search Results including files that have already been deleted?
I use Windows Vista Home Premium Version 6.0. When I use the windows search feature (navigate from the 'new' start icon) search results include files that have been deleted. This is quite annoying because it dilutes the value of the search result.
Does anyone have a solution to this? I have seen similar posts but no real solutions... any help would be much appreciated! THX

Windows 7 search () still does not work.
Although I followed other dialogues forum on the subject and tried all the suggested solutions, Windows 7 Search still does not for me. It will be as stuff in Control Panel etc, but never files and documents.
Here's what I've done so far: -.
- Run the troubleshooter of Search & Indexing, say things that I can't find the files or by e-mail. It detects any problems.
- In Control Panel / programs and features, I checked that Windows Search is turned on. (The Indexing Service is turned off).
- In Control Panel / folder Options, I checked that the default values of the research are defined.
- I tried to rebuild the Index in Control Panel / Indexing Options.
- I looked for the wandering registry key mentioned here: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7files/thread/cc378149-8765-498a-9480-b1b494e1a1a9 my system does not have it.
- I checked that the files (for example, "My Documents") have set of permissions system.
- I tried to switch to a different account username and research, which also do not work.
- I compared all the settings on my desktop PC (that has the problem) with my laptop, which is also running Windows 7 Home Edition, and on which the search works very well. They are all the same.
What can I try?
Hi, Rob.
I worked my way through all the tips, but could not solve the problem. (I do not stop my AV - Avast - as it is also used on my laptop, which has never had a problem.) Finally I, reluctantly, created a new profile and copied all my files across, and search now works as it should.
Best regards
Richard

Windows 7 search returns results from Outlook 2013, but links to the message will not open the e-mail message. Other results such as Excel or Word work. When you click on the result of the e-mail, the small window at the bottom of the page displays only the title of the email but no information such as the type of file or the date that you would see with other types of file returned.
Hi Houston,
Please refer to the article:
