My Windows Vista computer displays a black screen with only a white arrow to the mouse cursor.

I have a black screen with only a white arrow to the mouse cursor.  I tried to start in safe mode, safe mode with networking, and safe mode in the command prompt. Each time, I just get a black screen with a white arrow cursor.  How can I get my screen back?

    Hi Miguel C.

    a. What is the brand of your computer?

    b. do you remember of any changes to your machine before the question?

I don't know what motherboard you have, but some is shipped with the 'Clear CMOS' jumper in the position unequivocally. Check the manual of your motherboard for this rider and make sure that it is in the normal position.

J7B1 computer configuration jumper block requires a single rider set the configuration of the BIOS Setup utility. This allows the configuration in the configuration utility BIOS, including the frequency of bus and the processor motherboard speed.

Note: Do not move this jumper with the computer turned on.

    Warning of the BIOS:
BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

I think, you'd be best to contact the manufacturer of the motherboard as this seems to be a motherboard problem.

When I turn on my system (Windows Vista) I get a black screen full of f zeros.

    Hi Lyndiatxaz,

    1. you receive the error codes?

2 are you able to boot into normal mode after getting the black screen?

    3. have you made a recent software or hardware changes to the system?

You can check with the following and see if it helps.

    Method 1:

If you are unable to boot in normal mode, you can start your computer in last known good configuration.

We can refer to the following article and try to use the last known good configuration and the control.

Using the last good known Configuration

    Method 2:

    Step 1:

Start your computer in safe mode and check if you can start.

    Step 2:

If you are not faced with the question in safe mode, and then perform a clean boot and check.

A clean boot to check if startup item or services to third-party application is causing this issue.

You can read the following article to complete the clean boot.

    You already have disk cleanup?

    Please use this tutorial:
    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/76073-disk-cleanup.html

The Atlantic tutorial has 2 parts:
Step 1 to 11 is for the classic disk cleanup which will give you back some disc FEPs.
Step 12 until the end (more), is to delete all except the most recent restore points. This will give bring you a ton of disk space.
ATTENTION: Make sure that your computer works OK because you delete restore points.
You have no past point to fall up to restore more new restore points are created.

Hi there, Windows 7 system recently froze on me when I tried to move a large file on a USB hard drive. I didn't was not able to close the file so I decided to stop my PC with the regular start-> Shut Down.

I tried to start in safe mode, safe mode with network, they do the same thing after the "Starting Windows" screen. Tried to boot with my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit installation disk so and entered commissioning repair - no problem. Tried system restore and it went successfully, however after clicking restart is again the same thing!

  • Boots system to black screen with only the mouse pointer, ChkDsk finds the same mistakes every time, but does not drive.

My system has the latest updates installed, but it has not restarted when a power failure occurred.  System ran file check at startup and started to only black screen with the mouse.  Sticky Keys dialog box and file sharing is just what works.  System Restore find restore points, but fails with errors.  System repair find anything wrong.  ChkDsk /f and / r always produce the same result with about 30 files deleted from the index, and then these same files recovered orphans.

I cloned the drive to another and get the same results.

All modes of security also start to black screen.  CTRL-ALT-DELETE, CTRL-SHIFT-ESC, WIN-E, etc.  do not work.  Only 5xSHIFT brings a dialog of the keys sticky.

Via a command prompt I can read and write files & folders on the boot partition as if nothing is wrong.  Same thing with shared files on the network.

I asked about this on the forum to update and have no solutions.  Could someone please help?

    Thanks in advance.

    BestPartyBand,
I'm sorry to hear that none of the solutions that we offered was able to solve your problem.  I know how very it can be frustrating to have to start all over again with a clean system, especially with the amount of work you have put in get your network configuration.  I have not found anything that could solve your problem without reformatting, unfortunately.  I didn't want to point to one of the articles I sent you a link to (when you start a Windows Vista-based computer, the system may stop responding (hang) at a black screen.)
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/946532 this article talks about the corruption of system files in the $Txf directory. This corruption causes a situation of deadlock between the Transactional NTFS (TxF) and the automatic verification process.  I think that is what has happened on your drive hard when the crash occurred.  Here is a good article about this in detail that you might find interesting technically: transactional Ntfs and loss of data

Since there seems to be a fairly new computer, you should check with the seller and the support from Toshiba

Another method to try to get to the desktop (try in normal Windows Mode without failure)

  • Windows Vista does not boot, black screen after "windows loading files...". »

I have a laptop HP Pavilion dv2000, it came with windows vista, so I don't have a boot disk. When I try to start it, it will say "windows loading files...". "with a bar, once the bar is loaded it will say microsoft Corp. (with the copyright symbol) and another bar with a bar made up of three small bars of loading through it, once that is done, it will show a black screen. I have installed recent updates and I can't access the restore mode or security system.

    Hello

The possible fix is the same that you can not boot the system currently.

You need to make a computer repair/restore on another disc, borrow a friends Windows disk.
or buy one from the manufacturer of the system. See the methods in BOLD above which also shows how
a repair/recovery disk which is bootable.

It may not be repairable by a user and the help of a real store of the computer (no leeks and peaks at)
a BestBuy or other BigBox stores) or Support from HP is required.

  • Windows Vista won't load - black screen each laptop time starts

I have a Dell Insipron 1525, which does not load Windows Vista.

I can't go past the Recovery Manager screen every time you start, and although I tried all the options available, it does not open in safe mode or normally.

I tried the system restore (even if it says that it cannot find valid 'points'), as well as the repair of the system, and I have also run the Diagnostics, who said there is no error (although I could not see the final report). • TAP, '&,' top-right, and then type, "text".
    • Tap the text input field in the lower left corner.
    • Tap anywhere once fact. You might find yourself with a screen that I have above.

I know that you don't know a lot of shortcuts for your Mac, but everything you would need to press East of command-control-button / stop. These same keys together will close the application and restart your Mac. Once you have restarted your Mac, you should see that the cursor is returned to normal.

Maybe something messed up to the top of your Windows installation and if the computer may start t more or your HARD drive becomes faulty...

You can access the BIOS? If so, check if your HARD drive is recognized. If so I think that it of necessary to reinstall Windows. Therefore, take the Toshiba recovery disc.
