N of Linksys wireless router

I just bought (WRT160N) Linksys Wireless N Router and also ordered a Dell Studio 15 laptop.  The laptop comes with a Dell Wireless 1397 802. 11 g Half Mini Card - how do I know if this is a router "g" or "n"?  I was told that all the g's work with g or n; but n only works with n?

Sorry, but totally new for the whole wireless thing.

  • Linksys wireless router is not my new Motorola modem Internet access

I am relatively new to setting up home networks, so it's maybe a stupid question but I'm stuck! I bought a new modem Motorola (SurfBoard 1621) as my old Motorola modem was not favorable to the increase of the speed offered by Comcast. The modem I bought was a model recommended by their web site. They recorded the new modem last night and I can access the Internet when the PC is connected directly to the modem, but not when the laptop is connected to my Linksys wireless router. (Sorry, I don't know the model because it is at home and I'm at work!) Is there something I should do for the router to recognize the new modem? The router recognizes the wireless laptop, but it can not connect to the Internet.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

Success! Thanks a lot for your answer. My router is a WRT - 54G links.

The instructions were very informative, although I have a suggestion. Just restart the modem and the router did not work. I had to reboot other equipment in my system (a NetGear firewall and a level switch 5 ports) and the router and the modem. I would like to see the reboot of reference tracking "and other devices. I guessed the appropriate power of sequence (modem, firewall, switch, router, computer), and fortunately, it worked.

Again, thank you for your quick response.

  • Cannot renew the IP (WPC54G card/Linksys Wireless Router)

I think that the Wireless 'hardware' (is that correct?) in my laptop came out because I could use my Linksys wireless router until I installed a Wireless Linksys WPC54G card if I used an ethernet cable to connect with.  If the card is installed and I am connected to my network, I have an excellent signal but no Internet connectivity. I did the command "ipconfig" and renewed my IP address, but it appears as 169.xxx.x.x. I can't renew the IP address of 192.xxx.x.x.

Does anyone know how to fix, or what is the problem?  I'm set up to ensure that the configuration of IP address automatically, so it has nothing to do with it.  Thank you.

First check the settings on your Linksys router wireless... Follow this link (this must be done on a computer/laptop wired)...

Once you know the SSID and the network/WEP/WPA key, then uninstall the adapter linksys and re - install...

Uninstall the Linksys software menu programs... Re - install drivers insert the CD of Linksys install in your CD-ROM drive, when the welcome is displayed click on exit, connect your USB adapter now... When the Hardware Update Wizard window appears, click on install the software automatically (recommended) and then click Next.

NOTE: The hardware installation screen may appear indicating that the adapter has failed the Windows Logo test. Ignore the window and click on continue to continue the installation because the adapter has been tested and it works with Windows XP. When Windows has finished installing the driver, click on Finish.Goto Control Panel and double-click on network connections... Right click on wireless network connection, and then select view available wireless networks "-If you see your network wireless in the list, the highlight by clicking 'single' on it now, click on the 'Connect' button below-if your wireless network is secured, it asks you to provide the network key - provide the wireless network key and confirm again in the confirmation box and click 'Connect'." It should work...

  • My Linksys wireless router is not all sites loading...

It's quite frustrating because it took me a day or 2 perfectly set up my wireless network.

I have finally the network set up after tackling various issues under this...

In any case, my PC does not load some Web pages, and I can't really say why. It is sites randomly as WWE.com or IGN.com. And I can't connect to my ebay or AOL accounts either. Worse still is that some sites charge at halfway.

IE, Firefox, and Google Chrome are all that.

When I plug my computer directly into my modem, everything works fine.

    Any suggestions?

Well, we found your problem.  Version 2 of material means that you can only use version 2 on the router.  You try to put the version 8 on a router to version 2.  According to the website 4.21.1 is the correct code for this router.

You must download the latest firmware from version 2.  Try good firmware and let us know the status of the lights on the router when finished.

  • Adding a new wireless router from Linksys at an old Linksys router system

    Hello

I'll install a new standalone DVR to a home video surveillance system.  I would like to be able to access it with my current PC so I would like to add a Linksys wireless router.

I'm currently 1 Linksys Wireless - G Broadband Router with speed Booster model WRT54GS-BP and 2 models WMP54GS from PC that have PCI adapters Wireless-G with speed Boosters (802.11 g).  I had these installed since 2006 and although they are no longer supported I really want to have to upgrade because they work very well.

    My questions are:

If I add a new Linksys router to my new DVR will be able to communicate with my older Linksys router and adapters?   If Yes, what would be the best new router Linksys type should I buy?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

    Hi Dan,.

Please excuse the delay of time here, but I had a hard time to post a reply.  I added Ethernet Wireless-N - WET610N bridge.  When I installed the software, I kept getting error 102 - an error occurred communicating with your device.  I called Linksys for help and the tech had me make a few changes to the router 192.168.1.1.  I was able to install the Web Service to display the camera on both of our PC.  So the addition of the WET610N allowed us to access the DVR wireless!

Thanks a lot for all your help!

  • Need help to connect the old Windows XP to new wireless router, please

    Hello
I have an old desktop running Windows XP Edition family 2002 version, which has been connected to a Netgear WG311 802.11 wireless router g. The problem is probably that the Linksys E1200 is a wireless-N Router and your former Office no doubt has a wireless adapter that is only capable of wireless-G (or perhaps Wireless G and B).

Are adapters wireless in your other computers wireless - n?  If so, it perhaps is the reason why they could not connect to your old G of Netgear wireless router.

You can get a new wireless-N for the office adapter or configure the E1200 wireless g available.

  • Wireless router wired to the router wireless help?

I have a linksys wireless router and have run an ethernet cable to my desktop which is outside my house. I have the ethernet running into a hub for computer cable then switch (hub). I want to add wireless access in the office. Can I add another wireless router to the desktop and plug it into the power switch? How can I do this?

    1. Follow the instructions for 'LAN to LAN' Cascading in the link below:

In waterfall or connect a Linksys router to another router

Thing to keep in mind when cascading a router:

    1. Change the IP address of the secondary router to something like 192.168.1.254 so its on the same network, but is not in conflict with the main router
    2. Make sure that the DHCP service is disabled on the secondary router
    3. Make sure that nothing is ever connected to the internet port of the secondary router
    4. Differentiate the wireless SSID by location (Ex: downstairs) and the channel

  • Maybe wireless router not working only not with the new laptop.

I have a Cisco's Linksys wireless router. I got it for about 2 or 3 years. We bought after we bought our old laptop with Windows 7, but we have a new laptop with Windows 8. Now after about a month or two after that, we had this new laptop, the router started to turn on / turn off. What this has to do with Windows 8? I have to update the drivers of my router?

Fine thank you. You answered a question I had. Now, I'll go find similar questions we have answered about the light that turns orange and stops flashing. Thank you once again.

DSL via a wireless router: slow XP, fast on Vista

Hello, I just moved into a new House that has DSL service. My Vista laptop connects seamlessly to the network, but my XP machine trickles in at 50-150 Kbps and is flaky. I rebooted everything, power all pedaled, verified and updated the drivers. (Maybe I missed something?)  The specs are all lower. Any thoughts on what is happening?
