  I have a laptop Compaq 8510w (KE186EA; s/n CNU812285Y) with 200 MB of HARD drive installed. It is a Seagate ST9200420AS ('Momentus' family).

  Yesterday, the CHKDSK utility found some bad sectors, so I want to replace the HARD drive. This Seagate model is no longer sold. What other HARD drive models are fully compatible with my laptop? Newer players tend to be more thrifty in energy which means less heat. You should have no problem of compatibility based on the ability for any player < 2 TB.
  
  Personally, I think that the benefits of the hybrid hard disks are largely overrated. If you want real performance boost, GB SSD - well worth the money, the performance difference is day and night from a physical disk more you don't have to worry about damage to the drive drops or movement.

  It is a disc of 7200 RPM of 500 gigabytes for under $ 50. It is almost as fast as any hard drive mechanical regular, you can buy. I suspect it's bigger than the original. You may spend more to get a 750 gig or a 1 to, but it looks like you don't need large capacity. This one is 7 mm (ultraslim) but will always be adapted to your caddy. SATA connectors and mounting holes are in the same place as your original drive. I believe your original drive has a plastic on the SATA connections connector and you must reuse to connect the drive to the motherboard.

  PC will have 40 GB of HDD (any brand).  Make sure that the drive is PATA (parallel).  SATA (serial) will not work.
