  Have a big problem with vSphere client

  It depends on whether the drives are hot pluggable. Where they are - which should be the case for the company's servers - it is actually better to replace the drives online. In this way the controller knows which disk has been replaced and that one is healthy, that must be synchronized to the new. Check again with the documentation of the service provider to a controller. Another tip, if you replace a disk online, make sure that you wait at least a minute or two after removing the failed drive and before inserting the new disc, to allow the controller to properly recognize the replacement!

  Resolution

  To work around this problem, FDM (HA) must be entirely and manually removed from the host, so Update Manager stop trying to download during the remediation process.

  To manually remove the FDM:

  1. The vsphere client connected to the server vCenter, put the host in maintenance mode.

  2. Disconnect and remove your host of your active HA cluster.
  3. Your host, run this command:

     # software esxcli vib remove vmware-fdm - n

  4. Reconnect the host to vCenter Server.
  5. New attempt of scene/restore your host.
  6. Add your host on the HA-enabled cluster, performing a new installation of the FDM agent.

  We have just updated since the free version of ESXi 5 by ordering the Kit of Essentials. In the process, of course, we were able to deploy vCenter Update Manager (which has been the main motivation, like patching manually the free version seemed to be quite a pain). We have a Windows host that has installed the Update Manager, and we have a VCSA running on the single instance of ESXi, we deployed to date. We were able to install the plugin on the viClient and scan the ESXi host for patches with success (a need a good number). But, we're stuck trying to install the patches... us when trying to restore the host, we get: "the operation is not supported on the selected inventory items. Check events for the objects selected for the operation.

  Looking at this logic, for the host switch to maintenance mode, the VCSA should have been suspended (apparently, actually moved), which would avoid in turn patches / updates to the deployment. Am I correct in thinking, that we have a second host and networked storage? Made a Kit Essentials / license provide for the possibility of vMotion from one host to another? It wasn't really clear... Yes, the web site says "vMotion" is included in most Essentials, but find it me hard to imagine any point to a facility in ESXi stream without the ability to vMotion between one system and another guest...

  And since you have only an ESXi host and your vCSA is running on this host, you cannot patch this host with Update Manager for reason that already know you: the host should be the maintenance mode.

  Add about another host, with Kit Essentials without vMotion functionality, you can try using a data store of shared storage between two hosts, stop the vCSA on first host and switch the vCSA on the second host... and finally the first host patch.

• Screens nested Purple ESXi 5.1

  I tried to set up a lab in my work with a 5.1 ESXi embedded on a Dell R710. When I try to power on a Windows 2008 R2 vm in the nested ESXi, I get a purple screen with a 14 #PF exception error. I looked online and saw that this has to do with a problem of paging. I already implemented vhv.allow = true in my hosts virtual and physical requirements and also implemented monitor.virtual_exec = material in my virtual ESXi host. I also implemented the vSwitches and groups of ports the "Promiscuous" mode in my physical ESXi host. The virtual host has ESXi of 14 GB of RAM and vm Win2k8R2 has 8 GB of RAM. It's the only vm in virtual host and this problem also happens on other machines of nested ESXi. The hardware version of the nested ESXi is 9.

  Is there anything I can do to stop the purple screen? I will attach the papers soon.

  If you use vmxnet3 for the NIC on the external virtual computer, try to set it to e1000.

  I had to reload of the two ESX 3.0.2 Server I have here.

  Now the I get a HA error "an error has occurred while setting up the HA Agent on the host" when try to reconfigure HA.

  I note also that the same host if console type 'hostname - a' I get "Failed to find host name"

  I still seem to migrate virtual machines, but clearly something is wrong somewhere, there DNS config file I can check, I already check ed the hosts file and I can ping everything using long DNS name and short host name.

  Or maybe there is dns service can I restart?

  I've updated my plugin for integration of OM to 1.7 2.0. I have three hosts 5.5 ESXi and vCenter 5.5 device.

  The analysis of the inventory on one of these three hosts fails. I did the changes on the hosts and the inventory, used to work for guests when I used the plugin version 1.7. During testing of connection profile I get not all errors and information iDRAC identification and credentials to the host with green checkmarks on all hosts, including the one who gets the failure of the inventory scanning.

  When you look at the newspapers I see a lot of security-messages and then "cannot get an IP iDRAC for host {0}" and "failure of the inventory for host 1 of 3".

  Any suggestions?

  Because we support 5.5 with 1.7 install it must have been new for the hosts and vCenter.    OMSA can sometimes get messed up during upgrades. Please verify that this host is consistent in the compliance Wizard in the full desktop client. In addition, you can verify that you are a build 61? If you are on build 59 try to switch to the current 2.0 version. Change the path of update to linux.dell.com/.../latest
