• is this setting for VMs cpu limitation cause performance hit for ESX server?

  We had recently come vmware consultant do a health check.  One of the things he mentioned briefly that we should change is that we should remove the limitations of cpu that we fixed for VMS.  His reasoning is that it causes needless overhead on the ESX servers.

  I was wondering what were the thoughts of everyone on this, I thought that the limitation of the cpu was a good thing because he stopped to a virtual machine in addition to cpu utilization... All opinions are appreciated.

  I agree with shishir08 here, the limits should be carefully thoughtover and only be implemented for specific vm:s.

  Why limit a machine if there are resources available for this purpose to consume?

  However, I think that the actions and reservations always should be applied.

• DR for a VM vCenter

  I have two ESXi 4.0 hosts, one for internal virtual machines and other for VMS (live) client.

  I just installed vCenter as a virtual machine on my host internal and plugged on both hosts. I can connect to vCenter very well and I can see everything.

  Now that vCenter manages the two hosts:

  1. can I manage my guests directly with vSphere Client as I did previously?

  2. How can I stop vCenter to manage a crowd?

  3. If my VM vCenter get lost, do I have to rebuild a box vCenter to manage my guests or can I go back to the host management directly again?

  4. How can I remove/disable the vCenter agent that has been installed on a host?

  Go to the Start menu button, right-click on it, select Properties, click the task bar .

  Click the drop-down list buttons Taskbar & select never combine.

  We have 7 domain UCS. But only a vCenter. Now, we want to enable VM - FEX on each UCS area and sign up for the same vCenter. Is - it work? I have found no description limit configuration on this relationship.

  Hi Moua!

  I open a TAC case on that, and after that many discussions with Cisco, connecting several areas a single vCenter UCS is supported.  However, it turns out that Cisco failed to document this and how to make it work.  You will find that the procedures were written in old documentation for VN-LINK and others for VM - FEX.  This documentation shows that it is necessary to create new certificates, and it must match the key to expansion.  This is NOT true nor with the new versions of UCSM and vCenter.  Cisco, said they will update their documentation.

  Here are the steps that we took to connect two UCS areas for the same vCenter using default self-signed certificates.  I hope this helps...  Please mark this message as the right answer when you get a chance.  Thank you!!

  1. On the VM in UCS Manager tab, click VMware.
  2. Set up a key of the unique extension for every area of UCS.
  3. Click on "Configure VMware integration" on each area of UCS and export expansion of local storage.
  4. Install each UCS domain extensions in vCenter.
  5. After you install the extensions, back to UCSM and click Next where you left off in configure integration with VMware
  6. Run the wizard and after that it's over, areas of the UCS should now be connected to the vCenter.

  I was wondering - is vCOPs a product that can alert and monitoring, in addition to being a tool of use/capacity analysis?

  Since then, we have 8 or so vCenters, we would use vCOPs to generate action alert for most standard vcenter alerts. Is this a proper thing to ask vCOPs to do? It seems much better to have a monitoring/alert tool to do this and then try to make sure all vcenters have commonly (and correctly) snmp Configuration and alert thresholds and actions.

  Yes. We found in vcOps alert management configuration is cumbersome. The virtual appliance provided by PSO the process a bit easier with a front-end user interface, but really, it should be as easy as configuring alerts in the user interface of vSphere

  The question mark has nothing to do with your subscription at the end. The question mark on your records indicates that Lightroom cannot find the photos, because they have been moved or renamed, or delete outside of Lightroom.   By Payal integration, you mean paypal html button? or etc payment gateway configuration? If this is a configuration of the gateway to your site domain name then a single page with any structure will work, but if you use the button code for all associated formats then you will need to create separate pages for all.

  The view that creates the oversized VM report is called "Machine virtual Rightsizing CPU, memory and disk.

  Change that view and go to 'Time settings', you will see that it is probably set to 1 minute. Change to the length you want for your report. In my environment, I use "45 days" as an example. After registration, rerun the report, and you should be good.

  When I change a strategy and look at the page "bulky or VMs undersized", I am surprised about the 1%, value for "is more than 1% for the whole range."

  How to read this? The way I read it now is: when you use the default settings, this means that when a virtual computer uses less than 30% CPU for a period of 1% of the time (= 1% 30 days = 7.2hrs), he has too many resources. Me 7.2hrs is very low, in fact I would be rather calm the resources of virtual machines when it is less than 30% to 90% of the time.

  Hi g, I tried to get an answer to why the default value for most models of policy is 1% - but really you need to assign that everything that makes sense for your environment.

  For example, you may not care as much about the production system being oversized jack so that up to 90% (or even 100% if you want to just ignore oversized all together).  For non-produits you can be more careful, so maybe 30% or less, using your ranges.

  I always recommend to check the recommendations oversized against a metric graph of 30 days to use CPU or memory validate the pic and the duration before changing assignment of VMs.

• Assignment of IP addresses for VMs provisioined

  During the network setup of LCM registration, I've specified to not use "DHCP". Instead I created the range of IP addresses. I also configured the domain. When the workflow of placement is performed during VM placement, I choose to join the domain and also choose the same network that mentioned/configured above. But the created virtual machine is not joined to the domain, or it gets the IP address of the range that I set up. (It gets the IP as 169...).

  My goal is that VM should be specified in the domain and that he should get one of the IP addresses configured on LCM.

  Am I missing something here? Do I need to configure the DHCP server for this purpose.

  Extra description on installation-

  I have ad server in my configuration that is used to register the user and also provides the domain name.

  DHCP should be configured to run on the network you have the virtual computers connected to when they try to join a domain. It is a requirement of tempororay during the commissioning of the virtual machine. After that the virtual machine has finished its customization according to your LCM configuration, it will end with a configuration... but that the DHCP static IP must be available when you first start the virtual machine.
