Network management issues

Recently, we experienced some rather strange issues with the management network on several of our ESX 3.5i hosts.  We are having a hard time figuring What exactly goes here.  I thought I would ask some ideas here in the community.  Please help if you can.

Symptoms:

Web site host that is normally available to download the infrastructure client unresponsive.  When you go to it that we don't receive any response or we receive a service error is not available.

When attempting to connect to the i.p. of management we receive one of two different errors of the Vmware infrastructure client:

1. the server took long to respond

2. bad user name or password

When we go to the console of the host, we can authenticate as root.  If we test the management interface we will immediately get failure messages when attempting to ping the gateway servers and DNS servers configured.   However, we can ping this host without problem.

Two of them have iScsi connections.  All three servers are using three trunked together physical network adapters to a Cisco switch.  The switches are passing information for three different VLANS.  The other data to an accessible network of production, one in the interface of management for ESX servers and iScsi traffic.   A server does not connect via iScsi, but uses instead a local data store.  The two servers using iScsi connections began to have problems around the same time and we thought it was a configuration question here.  However the third server that has no iScsi connection started with the same problem after that we tried to migrate a virtual machine Vmware using a Windows Vmware server 2.0 VMware converter for this ESX host 3.5i.  After the failure of two attempts the management interface has become unavailable through the infrastructure client as the first two.

Any thoughts?  We really are scratching our heads on this one.  Running virtual machines are seen no problem and we can rdp to them without any problem.  Attempts to stop the console command did not work.  A single server hung and the other screen deleted when restart management network has been selected.  Neither seemed to come back to life, so we close hard two servers connected to the iScsi San and brought backup.  They seem to be ok for now.  But we are very concerened to see a third server with this symptom.

They all run ESX 3.5i day three.  I'm open to update more but can not find any specific fix listed for U3 that sounds even close to this problem.  I have no mass, the upgrade just because.  I'm the guy who likes first data.

Thanks for any thoughts!

I did not read you have before trunking.  If you mean trunking VLAN, how your switch is configured?  If you switch is configured as a trunk or a port marked, or 802. 1 q encapsulated port, then your management network is also configured to do the tagging?  Is your switch has a port VLAN native?  If so, does it match the VLANS on your network?

You still need an AntiVirus tool, but I suggest you stay away from programs McAfee.

Use Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware . Also install all updates and leave only the UAC active and all is fine.

  • Default gateway and network management

    Hello

After installing the initial (via a serial cable), we installed the default gateway on iSCSI network. IP address is defined for the management interface on the network of management as well. Now, we want to access different network management port.

In fact it should really dg on iscsi network as there is not etc to another network for replication. So if I try to change the dg on GUI does not change me. Can I change the dg on cli or add new lines to the management network?

    Thank you

With a dedicated management port, you have now two bridges 'by default'.   An iSCSI, one for network Mangement.  The iSCSI Gateway is strictly for iSCSI traffic.  All of the management features will use defined for management.

  • Cannot Wireless network Management Application

We use Cisco Wireless LAN Controller 4400 for two years. Yesterday, we had a report that the Wireless does not work. We found that the problem is Cisco Wireless network Management Application does not start. If I try to start it, I get the network Wireless Application Management with Error 1067: the process terminated unexpectedly. I tried to clean boot, but that doesn't fix it. We have not changed anything on the server. Any suggestions?.

It seems that the firmware is damaged or the compact flash (CF) is dying.

Have you tried to reboot the device?

Have you tried to update the firmware?

  • Please recommend network management software

    Hello!

I need help to find a network management software that is compatible with our switches. I use a network with Cisco/Linksys managed switches:

    10xSLM2008,

    5xSRW208,

    2xSRW2008MP,

    1xSF 300-08

I was hoping there is management software (not the thing webview/web browser), that could do these things (in order of preference):

-connect to these SNMP (or similar) to show me a little statistics on each port on each switch, as well as the connectivity between these switches.

-I would like to know which port what mac addresses and possibly the IP addresses of these.

-Let me know what mac addresses uses more bandwidth

    -ban a mac address

I'd be happy if someone could give me advice on what software to buy.

  • a restart of the network management will affect virtual on an IBM Blade?

    Hi all

We are running an IBM Blade S with two blades HS22 located on ESX 4

I would like to add a HS23 on ESXi 5 and then upgrade all three blades to the latest version of ESXi 5.

I entered in the console HS23 and put up the name / networking details. When I go out, I get a message saying that the management network will be restarted.

This restart will affect the virtual running on our existing blades? I have to arrest all of them first? If so it's a little bit of pain

    Thank you

    Tracy

Network management only affects this network hosts to talk to other guests or to connect, but should not affect all guests of this host or any other host.

  • Change of IP network management

    Hi all

    ESXi 5.1.0

I put VM network and network management in the same Standard switch.

Now, I want to change the IP address of the management network.

    It will disrupt VM Network?

    Thank you.

I tested it in my environment and would not distrub the vm network. the host will be disconnected and you will need to re - attach return.

  • Configure the network management grayed out in DCUI

Configure the network management grayed out in DCUI and some other options are grayed out and network management IP is 0.0.0.0

Seems that you have not any management VMkernel port or they may have been removed. You may need to check the same.

Run esxcli list of network ip interface to check if there is no VMKernels.

It does not generate re no output if NO vmkernel port is available.

If no. VMkernel ports then follow the below to re-create the management VMkernel port group.

esxcli network ip interface add-i = vmk0 Pei = "network management - M = 'MAC address' ' to create a VMKernel for management." Make sure the right to MAC address of the uplink is mentioned.

And make sure that it is a unique vmk, does not correspond to a vmk existing (vmk0, vmk1, vmk2).

Once the Port is created, you should be able to configure networking on the DCUI

    Hope it will be useful.

  • How do I restart the network management via SSH?

How can I go on the reboot of the management network via SSH? Or can I still do. I don't mean services.sh reboot, I need the network management not the management agents.

    Any help is appreciated.

What version of esxi do you use?

    If you type

    > dcui

You can control the ESXi in the medium dcui@ssh and restart your agents in there

  • Network management using a trunk for the connectivity port

    Hi all

I'm currently developing a couple of hosts with a unique vswitch esx. Ideally, I would like to allocate 4 physical NICS on the host to connect to my physical network via 802. 1 q trunks. These network interface cards will then be used by some groups of ports for example vlan 10,20 and 30. I also want the Group of ports management network the vswitch using one of/all of these ports of junction for its uplink to the physical network. However, I seem to lose connectivity to the host whenever I put the port network management group vmnic to one vmnic that is attached to an uplink of trunk. If I allocate an uplink access and secure it to the management network port group I do not seem to have everything get to the problem of the host.

I have to do something wrong as having to use a physical network adapter, mapped to a vlan access, just for hospitality management seems a bit exaggerated.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    See you soon,.

    CiscoKid

    Hello Ciscokid,

is not a problem to achieve what you want. What VLAN id you use for the management network? You specify this number VLAN on the portgroup of management?

Do you have any "vlan native" on the physical switch port?
