networking of base UCS

Hi guys

IM new UCS and I need help lift network connectivity and running of my servers blade of UCS.

I have a Nexus 5 K connected to a 6248FI.

Nexus Port config is:

interface Ethernet1/8
Description Portchannel interconnect fiber has
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk vlan native 2025
Dashboard for the port spanning tree type trunk

I set up a unified on FI uplink port so I FC and Ethernet via the same port.

FI port config:

interface Ethernet1/32
Description UF: UnifiedUplink
PIN border
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk vlan native 2025
switchport trunk allowed vlan 1, 2025-2026, 2276, 4048
Uni-directional disable
no downtime

The Vnic on my server looks like this:

interface Vethernet833
Description 1/4 server, 1-fabric-A VNIC
switchport mode trunk
No server pinning sticky
pinning of pinning-down server drop down link
No cdp enable
switchport trunk allowed vlan 2276
bind the interface port-channel1290 833 road
queues of default entry - type service-policy policy
no downtime

Now, the thing is, I put an IP address on the server and it can not ping the default gateway.
I followed guides online on how to configure things but can't for the life of me understand why it does not work!
pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

AK

It's simple. Just reset the router and set up as if it were the first time. Then, you can simply choose a new password and security settings.

However, if you prefer to have a manual everything you need to do is google the manufacturer and model number. You will have at least 10 links directly to the online, as a PDF owner's manual. Then Adobe Acrobat can view the information for you.

  • DMZ virtualization and network design. UCS + VMWARE

Until now, we had a network physically segmented with internal and external vtp different areas/zones. Keys "inner area" hear a VLAN and keys "outer zone" along a VLAN different. VLANs are not propagated between different areas for security reasons, are isolated.

Currently, we started to work with UCS + VMWARE, and we are facing difficulties. According to the previous model, if virtualize us servers within the internal battery of the UCS area, we cannot not virtualize servers within the outer external in the same UCS, since I wish to propagate VLAN switches area internal as well as for the farm of the UCS, mix. As a result, the isolation would be lost.

I'm reviewing my network base, in order to adapt current infrastructure to the new with UCS + VMWARE, without missing any point security.

My main point, is whether it is possible to virtualize external virtual machines and internal area in the same UCS, without compromising the security of my network.

Could you give me some advice or design guide?

    Kind regards

    Hello-

You are right that upward through UCS 1.4 all them VLAN should be available on the switches upstream.  However, UCS 2.x introduced a feature named "Disjoint L2."  By using this feature, you will be able to connect interconnect fabric to your internal network and the DMZ, then configure the VLANs to blades.

  • Networking of base - VM issue shows the wrong (?) network speed

I'm new on vSphere and I have a couple of servers set up to test vSphere before as I have spread.

I have a HP DL380 server with a HP network card dual port 10 GB.  This NETWORK is connected to a HP switch.  The switch is put in place for the 2 ports are associated.  If I start the server on windows 2008 it shows 20 GB in the team of the local connection state.

Started as 5.0 ESXi host I have NIC associate together as:

Load Balancing: route based on the hash of the IP

Network failover detection: State of the link only

    Notify paramedics switches: both Yes

Both NIC ports show under active cards (no standby adapters).

These NETWORK ports are used only for the standard vSwitch0 by default (no other VM only port groups defined).

On a virtual Win 2008 R2 computer (even for a 2003 R2 VM) of the local connection state shows 10 GB.  Should not show 20 GB?

I also noticed that if I save one of these virtual machines (via Veeamzip) and restoring to another server (Esxi 5.1 with an Intel 4 Gb team, same basic configuration done NIC port) it still shows 10 GB when 4 GB is the maximum available.  Should not show 4 GB?

With the VMXNET3 adapter and the VMware tools installed network comments connection will appear as a rising 10 GB, regardless of the speed of the physical card - it is a behavior expected and rather confusing at first, especially when you have only 1 GB.

The reason shows upward to 10 GB, because it's the speed that it is connected to the vSwitch and this would be the same in a scenario of physics - IE. the speed that you are connected to the switch to is the speed shown on the guest.

  • Effect of allowing disjoint networks UCS L2 for existing pod

Servers within our UCS pod existing v2.0 (3 c) need new connection to a network of layer 2 in our datacenter. This network is not accessible to the Juniper switches to the North of our current 6248 fabric of interconnections.

After reading the documentation, it seems that "disjoint networks layer 2" may be the answer. If I understand correctly, we would have cable redundant connections to 6248 unused ports to switches that host this network of layer 2 and follow the guide associated with that vlan L2 these ports.

However, I also understand that I need to tweak the configs for our existing fabric and the fabric port channels B that hosts all the VLAN "normal." I fear that doing so may impact on the network for computers UCS hosts on these networks, or may necessitate a restart/reacknowledgement of existing hosts of UCS. Am I being too pessimistic?

    See you soon,.

    Paul

    Hello Paul,

I would indeed provide a window of failure because you configure VIRTUAL LAN Manager to associate some VLANs for the uplinks on each FI, it will be re-pinn all vEths which will cause a slight disruption in traffic.  According to the degree of sensitivity are your applications they may or may not be affected - I'd do it wrong side of caution and take a maint 1 hour. window to set up and test accordingly.

By default, all them VLANS are allowed on all uplinks.  As soon as you add a VLAN to an uplink channel / port specifically via the VIRTUAL LAN Manager, he gets explicitly cut off the coast of all other channels of uplinks / port for FI.

A great way to check your configuration is once you have everything configured as you see, you vous connecter connect to the UCS CLI interface, "connect nxos" and run 'show int trunk '.  You should see the VLAN on uplinks necessary - with the exception of the VLAN 1, that will be allowed on all uplinks.

    Kind regards

  • Photosmart C4780 installation fails to Select network

    Printer model: Photosmart C4780

Operating systems: Mac OS 10.5 and 10.6

    Method of connection: USB

Wireless network: Time Capsule from Apple (802.11b/g/n) and Apple AirPort Extreme (802. 11 b / g) with WPA/WPA2 Personal security and local access control (MAC filtering)

Problem: Try to set up a new C4780, I installed the software on three computers HP run two versions of Mac OS X.  I placed the C4780 next to two different base in the AirPort network stations.  I have the MAC address of the C4780 in each base in white list stations.  I tried also turn off all the access control and all the network wireless encryption/security (briefly).  I even tried to connect to my neighbor networks.  In all cases, the C4780 was connected to the computer via the USB port and the HP installation wizard has been run.  'Select Network' page, the list shows both of my base stations (with the same SSID) as well as two networks in neighbouring houses.  Any network is selected, the process "in search for the network" succeeds forever.  On some attempts, a dialog box shows the network is out of range (even if the base station is the printer inches), but most of the time the "network search" process runs indefinitely.  I looked in the newspapers of the two my network of base stations and found no attempt to connect from the MAC address of the C4780.  Light on the C4780 Control Panel indicates that the wi - fi radio is on.

I don't see any explanation other than a faulty radio in the C4780.  Any other ideas?  Thank you.

I don't know why you have two airports and if they are configured to play well with each other, but...

We will use the WPS from your printer and 8 function:

Start the WPS process from the front panel of your printer (network menu). Then:

    Open Apple Airport utility
    Select your wireless router
    Select Manual Configuration
choose Add Wireless Clients... in the menu of the Base Station
Select the first attempt, and then press to continue.
You must begin the process of Apple Add Wireless customer within 2 minutes of starting the printer WPS push button method. In fact, the order doesn't matter... you can start the process of adding on the Apple start router Wireless Clients then method push-button WPS printer.

Your printer will now be connected to your router. Now all you have to do is install the printer in System Preferences, Print & Fax by clicking on the button «+» Find the instance of your printer with "Hello" next to it and click "Add" when it becomes available. "

  • Generational UCS/VMWare

    Hello

I'm looking for clarification on how the Palo VIC presents the vNIC, how say/control which card vNIC to which ports physical and how best to configure my environment for VMWare.

    Summary of material:

Blades (full-width) B250 with 2 cards of Palo VIC

5108 chassis with double FEX (double uplinks from each FEX)

    2 x 6120 controllers with 2 x 10 Gbit links rising each to a pair of Nexus s 5020

    Summary of the software:

    UCS 1.3.0 boot loader, the kernel/system 4.1 version (3) N2(1.2d)

    VMWare vSphere Enterprise Plus 4.1

According to my interpretation, Cisco and VMWare recommend against bandwidth limiting the interfaces - but prefer to go with actions and ability to burst.

Therefore, my desired construction is the following:

for each of the 4 available in B250 blade 10gbit interfaces, I want to have 2 vNIC (1 for VM distributed vSwitch [6Gbit minimum actions, 802. 1 q trunks], 1 for iSCSI [4 Gbit minimum actions, access port/no 802. 1 q trunk]). This means that my Service profile must define 8 vNIC altogether.

Q1: How can I make sure that I get 1 'data' and 1 'iscsi' vNIC per physical port?

Q2: how to set a policy to set the minimum bandwidth on each vNIC?

Q3: How do I control/make sure the binding order correct so that I can script my configuration of vSphere?

Generation of VMWare will be vswitch distributed containing all the 'data' vNIC, allowing control of network IO with actions defined to manage the various allowances for groups of data ports, console and VMotion. The vNIC iSCSI will each receive a VMKernel port dedicated.

Thank you very much in advance for any help.

Our installation program is not the same, but the principles can be applied as we also CIV.  To make sure that we had the installation of ports properly, I put into service six vNIC in UCSM to each host.  I put in service the first vNIC of fabric and the second vNIC fabric B - do not check the box "Fabric Failover"...  Repeat for other network cards for four.  This will give you 4 vNIC by fabric.  Note MAC addresses and which tissue they are attached.

Then, in case of VC and to configure your hosts, enter the network cards and line up the vmnic and MAC addresses so that you know how they trace.  When you configure your vSwitches, just make sure you add a vmnic from fabric and a fabric vmnic B.    Do this for the Service Console, vmkernel and VM switches.

If you make this unique environment of VIC inas, it will ensure that your vswitches are attached to every tissue.  I guess you can do this same thing with two VICs, since each card may appear independently in UCSM.

As for the bandwidth mgmt and others, check out http://bradhedlund.com/ its recent messages are on the networks of the UCS.

    Announcement

    Hello Adeel,

Assuming that access is available for all network components of the infra and none are configured for snmp querying or already part of a network card/inventory application, I would like to generally like below,

    (1) build a network from base level diagram and build ward [using 'sh ip int bri', 'sh cdp nei', "sh ip arp", 'sh mac addr' etc.] and continue to do so until the diagram has only devices/ISP devices at the edge interfaces.

    2) add on values [details Int, speeds, bandwidth etc avg] on the links above the said scheme.

-If the infrastructure is too big, you can do it in the segments [Campus1, Campus2, branch, etc.]

    I hope this helps.

  • Connection no UCS server to the fabric of interconnection 6248

We are migrating our VMS of Dell PowerEdge servers to Cisco UCS environment 620\710. The question has been ask if we can connect our Dell servers directly to the IF SFP ports + and/or the connection of TP will 10 GB. Is this possible? How does the FIs treat non - UCS servers?

This is not supported! I guess you want to do vmotion and transfer your Dell to UCS Server VM. Just configure the appropriate network connectivity (vlan UCS to Northbound Dell server) and it should work.

    Hello
Looks like you have for your CRS address completely different subnet masks to your 'normal' address Looks like your address CRS is a class A that is 255.0.0.0. You must have this defined incorrectly in the CRS config somewhere - it must be the same as the 'normal' subnet for host.

  • Thinking of adding Airport Extreme for Google Fiber

Hello world. Wanted to start a new question related to Google fiber... slightly different from the issue of Back2Mac earlier.

I just Google fiber. House is wired throughout with CAT6. Wired connection works fine. Wireless is great, sometimes, but do not receive the beach or the consistency we want.

Can I add an Airport Extreme, hard connected to the Google fiber network box (which is a router, "PNG" for short) and everything work well and be safe?

There is a lot of information out there, but most are very technical and I think talking to try to take the PNG of the equation all together. I don't need or want to do. Looking to replace PNG with a wireless Airport Extreme wireless. I think that all that I have to connect the Airport Extreme to PNG by wire, set the Airport Extreme in Bridge mode and "create a wireless network" and disable wireless of PNG.

I have not bought the Airport Extreme and wouldn't bother, if it will be technically above my head. I've seen many references to static port forwarding, DMZ, IP, etc.. Are there others that should be configured to secure my installation? In addition, the activity of the network of wired and wireless devices will share work together (for example, iPhone wireless to AppleTV wired antenna)?

Thank you and appreciate any help anyone has for a novice with little network experience!

Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the ports on the fibre-optic LAN <>router - port WAN "O" on the AirPort Extreme.

Turn AirPort Extreme for a minute or two.

Click the WiFi menu at the top of the screen on your Mac and are looking for a list of new AirPort base station.

Click on AirPort Extreme just below this list.

Who will get the facility operational Apple "Wizard". It will take a few seconds to analyze the network, and then display a screen similar to the example below, except that you will see a picture of the AirPort Extreme.

Name of the network... Type a short and simple name that you want to call the wireless network

Base station... Enter a device name short and simple that you want to use for AirPort Extreme

Password... Type a password that will be used for the wireless network and a base station

Check... Type the same password to confirm

    Click next

The "Wizard" will configure everything for you automatically. ... then you don't have to worry about things like the 'bridge', 'security' mode or other parameters.

When you see the message Setup is complete, click done, and you're done.

    Hi people,

my end of 2013 Mac Pro 6.1 (OSX 10.10.5) takes unusually long to start (a few minutes) since a few days ago.

Verbose mode must be terribly long to load the boot.efi

But neither pressing "D", nor the network launch base "Alt + D' Apple Diagnostics tool.

It gives me just a black screen, no matter how many times I press on and wait.

The monitor is 'active', so some sort of signal goes off, it's just black.

Does anyone have an idea what is the cause and how to fix it?

    Thanks in advance
