  • Install old HDD to the pc with the new HARD drive and operating system different?

Hi, I recently ripped my old laptop that no longer works, after buying a newer laptop 4 years ago. The new laptop has Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installed while the old machine had Windows Vista installed. I want to put the old HDD in my new machine to extract some files that I want to keep and possibly use this particular drive as a disc of extra storage without having to turn it into a portable device. Would that work or would I meet problems with him? It would be just a plug & play this sort of thing (as the old HDD already has an operating system installed) or the old drive (vista) would cause the new drive (win7) fails at startup?

And sorry if this has already been covered. I searched through the questions asked previously and has not really found a similar job.

You can use your old drive, but you should check that the "Boot order" is the most recent Player listed before the old drive. If need be exit and save your BIOS boot becomes.

    Next

After you have started since the new drive, you may need to take ownership of the files you need to copy.

To take ownership of a file or folder

    1. open Windows Explorer and locate the file or folder you want to take charge.
    2. right click on the file or folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.
    3. click on advanced and then click the owner tab.
    4. click on edit and then do one of the following:
To change the owner to a user or group that is not listed, click other users and groups and enter the object name to select (examples), type the name of the user or group and then click OK.

To change the owner to a user or a group is listed in the change owner to box, click the new owner.

    5. (optional) to change the owner of all subcontainers / folders and objects in the tree view, select the Replace owner of subcontainers and objects check box.

Then use 'Disk management' to delete all existing partitions and reformat the old drive.

  • A single operating system windows installed, but windows Boot Manager requires me to hit enter to start.

I run windows 7 on a mac with bootcamp. Never had problems before starting. All of a sudden when I boot, windows boot manager wants me hit enter to choose an operating system. Problem is that there is no other operating system, except 7. When I go through the starting system in system properties it only shows windows 7. I changed the time out of 1 second, but it does not help. Looked bcdedit.exe. Reads only one o/s.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Mike

    Hi Mike,.

I can't tell you why, who started, but I can help you disable this menu and safe you 30 seconds:

    1. System opened by clicking on the button start , right click on computer and then click Properties.

    2. Click Advanced system settings.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    3. Click the Advanced tab, and then under Startup and recovery, click settings.

    4. Under system startup, in the list operating system by default, unchecktime to display list of operating systems.

As an alternative, you can leave this checked and simply reduce the number of 30 seconds.

    Hope that helps!

  • Inspiron 17R-N7010 new SSD installed, now I need Windows 7 operating system installation CD.

    Hi guys,.

So my HDD on my Inspiron 17R-N7010 completely stock * on me last week, so I just gritted my teeth and just bought I have completely new SDS and installed last night... now, however, I need to reinstall the operating system. Problem is that when I bought the laptop, Windows 7 is pre-installed, so I don't have to drive to it. How can I do to get an installation disc, and how much it will cost if I can get my laptop up and running again? It's an outdated OS and the laptop is almost 6 years, I can't imagine which costs a lot. There is also a store Microsoft directly by me, can I go ahead and buy the disc of Windows 7 OS you think?

In addition, the original HARD drive was 640GO and this new SSD is 500 GB, so the recovery disks that I made when I got the laptop are unnecessary since Dell Datasafe Recovery (or whatever we call it) keeps telling me the hard drive needs to at least 590GB of space (or something similar along this message). The smallest space on the SSD isn't going to be a problem with the laptop in general or during installation of operating system Windows 7 is?

You will need to call Dell - they usually sell a set of recovery media for about $25 in the United States, the United Kingdom and the Canada.

  • charging on different operating systems problem

    Hello

Since this is my first post, I'll say this first: I love my 4 GB Sansa Clip!

I had a strange problem, however, and a quick look through the forums has not enlightened yet, although I apologize if it's already been processed somewhere I use my Clip in MSC mode exclusively (DPW was just too odd and flaky). To make it work fine on Windows XP, Mac OS X Tiger and Ubuntu Linux 9.04. Windows is on my main computer, and several months ago the Clip stopped being recognized. In fact, when I plugged into the computer, it come alive and say it is 'connected', but it would not charge and it would not appear as a device in Windows. So I tried it on my Mac mini, and it worked fine. So I used it on my Mac mini since then, but tonight, the same thing happened there: I plugged into it, he said 'connected', but not charged and could not climb. I'm so back to my Windows machine thinking maybe the moody aircraft was begging for some MS action tonight, but no luck. So I restarted in my distro Ubuntu (9.04 v and guess what?) Fortunately, it is charging as I type and he fitted immediately and allowed me to transfer files via.

So, what gives? Why would it matter what operating system tries to mount? It is a complete mystery to me, and I wonder how long I could have before even Linux stops recognize it...

Anyone else encounter this? Thanks in advance!

I can't speak for your Mac problem, but sometimes the Windows can have a brainfart and corrupt the USB driver. Go in with the connected player Device Manager and look for a faulty device (indicated by a triangle-and-yellow exclamation icon) in the tree view of the devices Universal Serial Bus controllers section. Delete any you find, disconnect the drive and restart your PC. Once Windows has finished loading, reconnect the video and Windows should detect and reinstall the driver.

  • Recovery operating system 6 t-1000 HP Envy problems

I just got my Ultrabook of 6 t feel like after having had repairs under warranty, interpreted by HP. When I started the laptop originally, I found several problems and errors. I tried to perform a recovery of the system from the recovery partition and have similar but different problems. I have currently no network connection because the system does not recognize that there is a wireless adapter. I have the DVD I created when I first bought the ultrabook but cannot find a way to boot from external DVD drive for recovery. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hello

You can press the F9 key at startup to the top to go to the only time where Start menu or press ESC, then go frm here or you can go to BIOS (F10 at startup) and change the boot order any should allow you to boot from an external DVD drive.

Hi, I support a lot of different PC in several countries. Each country uses its own version of Windows XP - Czech, Slovak, Poland... Someone told me, there is a way - probably by changing some dll files - how to have Eventlog in English, while the operating system itself is in a different language. I tried searching, but have not been successful so far.

  • Problems with sound after you install the operating system

I have a compaq presario that originally vista os, the system crashed and I could get the recovery work so I installed windows xp and now I'm having problems with the sound. What should I do? I tried to locate the drivers requarding info. I keep getting error messages indicating that I have no audio device. Is it possible to go back to vista? I don't have an instillation cd or recovery for vista cd. Any help would be great.

    Hello

Go to the link drivers HP > search your computer number model > XP OS > download and install the audio drivers.

    http://WWW8.HP.com/us/en/support-drivers.html

If no audio driver XP is available, HP provides them.

Through the installation of XP, you have destroyed the provided HP recovery Partition Vista to reinstall Vista:

Solve a common problem of recovery with the HP Compaq computers.
If the original operating system is changed to a non - Vista OS, the Recovery Manager cannot be started from either the desktop or by pressing f11 at startup. You can use the recovery disk to restore the computer to the original state of Vista. If you are using a non - Vista OS, you can use a third-party partition management program to recover hard disk space.

Contact HP and ask them to send you a set of Vista recovery disks.
Normally, they do this for a small fee.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.
