Operating system reinstallation problem

Hardware: Dell XPS410, bought 1007

O / s: Vista Home Premium, 32-bit

My hard drive crashed so I had to reinstall the OS from the Dell reinstallation DVD, P/N NX589

Once reinstalled one apparently successful, Vista will NOT accept the Service Pack 1 update and probably not Service Pack 2.

Before the crash, SP2 has been installed.

I suspect the drive Dell to re - install, but can't seem to contact the appropriate people.

  • How to increase disk space without guest operating system reinstallation

    Hello

I take advantage of VMWARE with linux host and vista 64 comments, but I encountered a problem, running out of disk space.

During the installation of VISTA, I chose 25 GB of disk space, as recommneded by IG of installation).

    Now I need more space.

According to the virtual disk manager, I did

    VMware-vdiskmanager mydisk.vmdk 40 GB - x

increase to 40 GB. It seemed to work, as I received a message,

    "Disk expansion completed successfully."

Now "The VM setting" windows says HD 40 GB. But internally under VISTA, disk space is always 25 GB. In fact, the size of disk file (view on the side of linux) is only 22 GB. No idea how to increase disk space. He must start from the installation, but it's a little painful.

    Thank you.

If the guest is Vista or Windows 2008, then you should be able to extend the partition while the system is running.

Take a look at this article: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial133.html

Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 won't let you do that, while the disk is online.  Vista and Windows 2008 changed things.

For versions of Windows Vista/2008, look for the Dell ExtPart.exe utility, as it will do the job for you.

    See you soon,.

  • Operating system reinstallation

    Hi all

I have an old HP Pavillion a1120n who settled with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (no disc available; and no recovery discs too).  Just recently, I wiped and reformatted the hard drive clean because of some problems I had with it.  Can I reinstall XP itself and use the same product key on the COA on the case 25-digit?  I guess I would need to install a XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2, but please let me know if the relocation must be product specific XP in order to use the same product key.

    Hi, Steve:

    That is right.

The recovery disks will restore the PC it is ' out of the box "what software is the condition.»

The OS and software that you see listed on the product page, it's what needs to be installed after you run the recovery discs. It must also create a recovery partition.

  • Help! Operating system reinstallation

    Hello

My computer is a HP Pavilion dv4-2045dx. I had to have my hard drive replaced. I have the recovery system for windows 7 64 bit DVD. I tried to reinstall, but for some reason it wasn't and the computer gives me a message saying that the installation only has not worked and re - install. I put the re-installation of discs in and it does not work. I don't know what to do. Help, please!

Try typing away at the F11 key immediately after turning the power on to see if the recovery partition can reinstall now (without disks):

  • The Portege 2000 via PXE - LAN operating system reinstallation

    Hello again,

So as said before I'm trying to reinstall Win XP from the recovery provided CD.
In fact, I have 4 CD: one that contains only Windows 2000 Pro and 3 CD containing Windows 2000 and Windows XP Pro. Of course, the 4 CDs were shipped with the computer.

I tried via the floppy and CD-ROM drive that does not work (see previous section), but I also tried via PXE - LAN.
So I installed a trial version of Windows Server 2003 in 3 months on my desktop and ran the RIS (Remote Installation Service).

    1. He accepted the CD Windows 2000 Professional as a CD of Windows Setup, but when you launch the Portege 2000, after some time, when he looks for the configuration of the computer, I get an error message that the driver for the network card is missing and it may not all go further.

    2. when I run the installation remotely with CD 1 of 3, it does not even recognize as a Windows CD of Installation!

So, I managed to install a Win XP Family Edition that I run normally on my desktop, but I don't have any driver installed (WIFI, infrared, sound card, etc.) but also, I have only 1 license for the home edition.

Someone at - it an idea on how to proceed with this method (I mean with the 3 CDs)?

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

    > Has anyone at - it an idea on how to proceed with this method - I mean with the 3 CD
Do you mean the Toshiba recovery CD?

I never tried to recover the image of Toshiba via RIS, but in my opinion that RIS does not recognize the 3 as a Windows CD of Installation CD1 because the recovery CD Toshiba image isn't really a Windows CD of Installation!

The restore CD contains only the image files. To my knowledge these are ghost files

Go to Finder and select your user folder. With this Finder window as the windshield, select Finder/display/display options for presenting or order - J.  When the display options opens, check "show the library folder. • Partition Recovery - what operating system?

I just bought a ThinkPad Edge E431 with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit OS pre-installed, but a free upgrade option to Windows 8 Pro (Windows 8 a license with downgrade rights).  Provided Lenovo recovery Windows 8 Pro (upgrade) DVD discs but nobody knows (or how to find out?) what operating system is contained in the recovery Partition from the factory on the laptop?  I expect that it is Windows 7 but the caveats users defined recovery disc to be sure to do a recovery image before moving on to Windows 8, which should not be necessary if the recovery Partition is Windows 7.

    Mtn-high hi,

    Welcome to Lenovo Community!

We understood that your request is subject to OS pre-loaded on ThinkPad Edge E431.

If the system is delivered with Windows 7 pre-loaded OS, then the recovery partition will be Windows 7 OS only.

We recommend to create the current operating system reinstallation disk, and after you create the recovery disk, you can move the windows of Windows 7 to Windows 8 OS.

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards

  • A single operating system windows installed, but windows Boot Manager requires me to hit enter to start.

I run windows 7 on a mac with bootcamp. Never had problems before starting. All of a sudden when I boot, windows boot manager wants me hit enter to choose an operating system. Problem is that there is no other operating system, except 7. When I go through the starting system in system properties it only shows windows 7. I changed the time out of 1 second, but it does not help. Looked bcdedit.exe. Reads only one o/s.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Mike

    Hi Mike,.

I can't tell you why, who started, but I can help you disable this menu and safe you 30 seconds:

    1. System opened by clicking on the button start , right click on computer and then click Properties.

    2. Click Advanced system settings.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    3. Click the Advanced tab, and then under Startup and recovery, click settings.

    4. Under system startup, in the list operating system by default, unchecktime to display list of operating systems.

As an alternative, you can leave this checked and simply reduce the number of 30 seconds.

    Hope that helps!

  • Inspiron 17R-N7010 new SSD installed, now I need Windows 7 operating system installation CD.

    Hi guys,.

So my HDD on my Inspiron 17R-N7010 completely stock * on me last week, so I just gritted my teeth and just bought I have completely new SDS and installed last night... now, however, I need to reinstall the operating system. Problem is that when I bought the laptop, Windows 7 is pre-installed, so I don't have to drive to it. How can I do to get an installation disc, and how much it will cost if I can get my laptop up and running again? It's an outdated OS and the laptop is almost 6 years, I can't imagine which costs a lot. There is also a store Microsoft directly by me, can I go ahead and buy the disc of Windows 7 OS you think?

In addition, the original HARD drive was 640GO and this new SSD is 500 GB, so the recovery disks that I made when I got the laptop are unnecessary since Dell Datasafe Recovery (or whatever we call it) keeps telling me the hard drive needs to at least 590GB of space (or something similar along this message). The smallest space on the SSD isn't going to be a problem with the laptop in general or during installation of operating system Windows 7 is?

You will need to call Dell - they usually sell a set of recovery media for about $25 in the United States, the United Kingdom and the Canada.
