I rarely see a necessity to have exports included in the catalogue. Most of the people the export only when necessary for the purposes non-Lightroom, and in this case, there is no reason to keep exports in the long term, you can always recreate the exported photo by exporting it again.

  Nevermind, I've decided to show courage and do it anyway. It works fine, no impact, which was what I expected. I understand VMware Server records no other purposes in addition to organization, but given the potential impact on the farm if I was wrong, thought I'd throw the question out there.
