New PC configuration

I just picked up a new HP ENVY with Windows 8, and it's like reading another language.  My question is now that there is nothing Hat pops up the first time to market to help me Setup and customize (like my last PC).

JPizzle, welcome to the forum.

I understand what you're saying.  Win 8.0 / 8.1 is very different from earlier versions.  However, I use Win 8.0 on one of my computers and Win 7 on another.  I can't say that I actually have a preference.

Here's a guide that should help you learn how to use Win 8 without too many problems.  Be sure to watch the video in the middle of the page.  Kevin and Randy will give you a great tour to win 8.

Once you understand how to use Win 8, you can make the configuration you have when you have turned on the computer.

Let us know if you have any problems.  We are all up to date on Win 8.

Please click on "BRAVO Thumbs Up" if I helped you and click on "Accept as Solution" If your problem is resolved.

  • Creating a new build configuration

    wants to create a new configuration in Momentics in this compiles differently my app (it will pass a few macros to the compiler C preprocessor when my project is built).

    Let's say I want to base it on the release device, but I want to call device-release-test instead. I can see how to do this step through the IDE already: (project-> Build Configurations-> Manage)

    This will (I assume) build my project on top of the arm/o-le.v7/ directory. What I want, is to have the project built in a new location, so that I can ensure that my binary output never get confused upward.

    I want this configuration rather to be built under the arm-test /o - the .v7 / directory. I believe that this should be possible because the 'Device-profile' configuration made something similar, with builds end up under the arm-p.

    My question is, how is the build in momentics configuration (stored in the .cproject configuration file) specifies this change? I can see the configuraiton of 'Device-profile' in the directory .cproject - but there is no reference to a 'arm-p' directory, and there is nothing in the file PRO of my app which gives an indication of a configuration of 'profile '.

    I grep has my entire code base and I don't see how to do it - but it must be possible. What I'm missing here?

    I figured out how to do this, in case anyone else is interested. The key is to understand that the compilation life cycle begins with the brand and not qmake / myapp.pro I first thought.

    By default, a Makefile waterfalls looks like:

    QMAKE_TARGET  =  myapp
    PROJECT_DIR   := $(dir $(word $(words $(MAKEFILE_LIST)),$(MAKEFILE_LIST)))
    I18N_DIR      := $(PROJECT_DIR)/translations

    include mk/cs-base.mk

    The cs - base.mk (found in your NDK) contains everything you need to understand how the process works. In cs - base.mk you can see the built-in rules for unit-Debug, device-liberation, Simulator-Debug configurations. These are hard-coded in the build system.

    You do not want to change cs - base.mk to add your own configurations, to fix this add the following lines at the end of the Makefile in the root of your application:

    QMAKE_TARGET  = myapp
    PROJECT_DIR   := $(dir $(word $(words $(MAKEFILE_LIST)),$(MAKEFILE_LIST)))
    I18N_DIR      := $(PROJECT_DIR)/translations

    include mk/cs-base.mk

    # add the following:
    arm-test/Makefile: $(QMAKE_TARGET).pro

    Device-Test-Release:
       $(info ***** This is my custom make target ***** )
       @mkdir -p arm-test
       cd arm-test && $(QMAKE) -spec blackberry-armv7le-qcc ../$(QMAKE_TARGET).pro CONFIG+=release CONFIG+=device CONFIG+=test
       $(MAKE) -C ./arm-test -f Makefile release

    I wasn't the most appropriate copy rules of cs - base.mk and defined my own rule for the configuration of device-Test-version. The foregoing rules follow these steps:

    1. Creates the arm-test directory
    2. Adds 'test' to the variable CONFIG - this will be available in my PRO account

    Now, you must create a new Configuration of build in the momentics IDE.

    1. Right click on your project in the project (myapp) Explorer. From the context menu, select:
    2. -> Manage the Build Configurations

    In the dialog box handle Configurations, click 'new '.... "and create a new configuration called 'Device-Test-Release' (or whatever you wish to call your. Make sure that copy you the settings from a Configuration of 'existing '. Choose the most appropriate for your scenario. In my case, I started my new configuration of generation on 'Device-Release.

    At this stage, you select the new build configuration when you build your project:

    1. Right click on your project in the Project Explorer
    2. Build - Configuraitons-> current value
    3. Select the new "device-Test-version" configuration.
    4. Build!

    However, you will find that different nothing happens. This is because the device-Test-version is based on device-release, so exactly the same thing happens when build you. Therefore, change the device-Test-version so that our custom in our makefile rule is called, instead of the default peripheral release target

    Bring up the project properties:

    1. Right click on your project in the Project Explorer
    2. Select Properties
    3. Goto the tab generating C/C++
    4. Select Device-Test-version in the Configuration drop-down list
    5. The behavior of Goto tab
    6. There is two-text fields ('Generation on resource save' and 'Building')
    7. Change the textfields that say "Device-liberation" for "Device-Test-Release.
    8. Click on apply

    The procedure above "links" your configuraiton of build in the IDE, with the brand target in your Makefile. Now, when you build your project (in the configuration of the device-version-Test), it will be integrated in the arm-test / directory

    There are still two other things you need to do if:

    Edit your file of bar - descriptor.xml and add a new configuration, based on what you see for release device. Just copy the article release device that is already defined, as follows:

      Qnx/Cascades
      armle-v7
      myapp

    You must make sure that the arm-test folder and of course change

    Once you have done this, you can finally edit the myapp.pro file and specify some custom in there rules. I didn't add the following rule:

    # put this in the myapp.pro file

    test {
      DEFINES += TEST_BUILD_WHOOP
    }

    Don't forget the ' test of += CONFIG "that we put into the Makefile project? In the PRO file above, we leverage this by creating a test rule {}, which applies only when we build the configuration of device-Test-version. Whenever the rule of test runs, we can add a TEST_BUILD_WHOOP preprocessor definition. Now every time our source files are compiled (in the test configuration), the TEST_BUILD_WHOOP macro is defined, and we can put custom code that gets compiled only when we test.

    for example in your myapp.cpp file:

    #ifdef TEST_BUILD_WHOOP

    /* whoohoo! building for test */

    #endif

  • VLAN again added, problems detected on guests during the detection of new network configuration

    Hi all

    I started facing a strange problem trying to use a new VLAN configured in my vCenter environment...

    Basically, my system 'fight' to identify the new network label (VLAN) configured, leaving systems disconnected from the local network.

    This condition disappears only when I change the VM touched, assign a label of different network (VLAN), apply the changes and restart the process by configuring the new VLAN return.

    We will use an example to explain better:

    • I have a named Windows Server/Workstation VM: VM1
    • I have 2 VLANS configured in vCenter: VLAN50 and VLAN70

    VM1 is sitting on the VLAN50 and has the static IP address configured.

    I start the migration of the machine to a VLAN different, by editing the network settings of the operating system (IP, MASK, GW, DNS entries...) and replace the label of VM1 VLAN70 network.

    At this point, the machine NIC shows as if it could not connect to what in the network, although it is configured accordingly in order to communicate in the new subnet.

    I have change the VM again and change the label of a network VLAN different from VLAN70, click OK. Immediately, I change VM settings to assign in return the VLAN70.

    After that, the operating system recognizes the network successfully and starts working as expected...

    All of my virtual machines use VMXNET3 adapter and my version of vCenter is v5.5 build #2646482

    No idea what might happen?

    Concerning

    We found the problem...

    It was not associated with VMware, but a network configuration problem: (ESXi connected to two switches, one of them with the VLAN configured correctly and the other does not...).

    Thanks for the help

  • New Network Configuration Question

    Out of my element here, have a new building we are evolving towards and want to check the right way to install our network. Rooms include 1 - TZ-200, 1 - LAN + Modem wireless switch dell 1-2824 (data), switch dell 1-2824 (voice), 1 - security DVR. If I configure the TZ-200 to the dhcp server, remove the dsl, taken in the wan port modem dhcp will be the sonicwall pick up the wireless and purge the IP for wireless addresses, as well as configure the remaining ports on TZ-200 LAN will all devices to be on the same subnet/nat for easy access? can provide simple schema, if that helps.

    Forget the feature wireless modem from your Internet service provider. You cannot have two routers 'work' (not in this configuration in any case). The only jobs of the modem is to feed the WAN in the Sonic and the Sonic is one that will manage all SonicOS is designed for, such as the creation and serving Dhcp. unless you are forced by the ISP contract to use the material they gave you, it may be more easy to get just a modem ADSL2 + regular that you can find in any * sale because they are unpopular with the houses of our days.

    To get WiFi in your network, you will fill a WiFi 'something' to one of the LAN in the Sonic ports. It can be of any router wireless of quality home set in Bridge mode (all DLink, Netgear, Linksys, etc, they can all work such as bridges), or a wireless bridge of commercial quality (as Unifi AP).

  • New hardware configuration of ESXi environment

    I'm relatively new to a company (to a month ago and I am the only person in what the other person until I started has left a little more) and I was tasked to virtualize ~ 30 physical servers (mainly old systems Solaris 10 which I do not expect to migrate to CentOS VMs).

    I'm now panicing, because even if I have some knowledge of vmware (install ESXi and the creation of virtual machines in vSphere etc.) I have little knowledge about the side things network and how to build a SAN and network connect/configure it via a switch and guests ESXi etc to make the virtual machine environment. Can someone provide some good links that show how to do this step by step for someone new to this? -I'm getting bogged down with the vast amount of information out there. Vmware give to those who may visit a site and help to set up a new environment. Sorry if I ask the wrong discussion group

    Also, I think I'll go with the Dell hardware, which is:

    2 x PowerEdge R710

    1 x VMware vSphere Essentials Plus

    Someone would be able to verify if the options below, I chose for the hardware will allow me to build an environment full of the virtual machine or if I am missing a few bits & bobs and I'll be able to tie together using a HP ProCurve 2810 - 24 G Switch exisiting?

  • For the installation of new network configuration

    I have a few new pieces of equipment to start of my virtual machine configuration. However, I'm not entirely sure of what would be the most effective way to implement the side network and side EQL, then I would like some feed back.

    The kit:

    • 1 x Cisco 2960 24 port (management / VMotion)

    • 2 x Power Connect 5424 24 port (net SAN)

    • 1 x EQ6000xv 300 GB * 16 discs for 4.8 TB Raw (SAN with 4 ports/controller)

    • 1 x R610 (broadcom 4) (vCenter server)

    • 2 x R710 (broadcom 4 Nic TOE + port 1000PT Intel 2 additional on each server for natachasery/Server 6 total) (ESX / I have knots)

    Network:

    Currently I have a certain VLAN ongoing enforcement, and because of some complications, looks like I won't get a subnet that is dedicated to the SAN (still pending).

    Virtual machines will never access 5VLANs (including the Management VLAN I have a virtualized network monitoring app too).

    I saw a white paper about it there but I can't find it now.

    SAN:

    Regarding the EQL, I think of the following:

    1. 1RAID 0 (I know it's plenty of space to go, but it would be better? Dell saw recommend 50)

    2. 1 flight approximately 500 GB to store all the OS vmdk (a number will be unique discs because they do not really data and many have less than 1 GB)

    3. 1 flight, size 1 TB for mapping directly to a VM file server using the MS iSCSI initiators

    4. For the rest, I could leave it as what and the provision necessary.

    5. I also intend to provision thin all the VMDK and also the volume so

    What needs to be run once to the top:

    • Two announcements (Win2K3), which will also be the file server.

    • 3 guests in low use of WinXP

    • 2 WinXP with DBs (each running on offices of single disk with P4 CPU of 2 G)

    • 1 WinXP host already on a DL380G3 with ESXi... this one is probably of the same caliber as the previous ones

    What is to come:

    • Installing SharePoint Services possible (more than 2 Win 2K 3 or guests with a SQL running Win2k8)

    • ISA Server

    I would greatly appreciate any comments.

    You are welcome.

    If you find useful information, consider giving points to 'correct' or 'useful '.

  • New platform configuration

    I am collecting a new rig (not bought much coins) as a replacement for my very old socket 478 one.

    Video editing in first may not be the most common thing I do on PC, but I try to make sure she's going to stand correctly

    (Avi Hd / AVCHD, but no RED or other "heavy" stuff).

    Now, thanks to all the advisors on this forum, especially evil, his messages really helped to understand things on the installer.

    Here it is (with thoughts)

    ASUS Rampage III Extreme

    -C' is perhaps too 'hardcore' mobo, and I need 4 way SLI, but I chose for the high quality components and overclocking features. In fact, I'd rather go with Rampage III Formula, but apparently not imported to the Russia at all (no unique Moscow shop/dealer has).

    I7 930 (perhaps 950)

    -l'intention to operate at 4 + Ghz or closely.

    Corsair DDR3 PC12800 1600 MHz (CMX4GX3M2A1600C8)

    -three kits of 2 x 2 GB; Yes 12 GB in total; as wrong there is never too much memory, and I myself often have several applications open at the same time. I was more looking for freq sticks before, but it seems to be almost no increase in performance > so waste of money. So 1600 mhz I thing is enough to not "hold back" shape overclocking the processor, is it? This model is listed in the official list QVL Rampage Extreme.

    GTX570

    -for me it seems to be the right balance between performance and price (I do regularly play).

    The disk configuration:

    I'm not qoing with raid controller, don't have budget for this more than Areca is not yet present in all the shops here. Thus, "mobo" raids.

    My configuration:

    WD VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS 150 GB -Windows

    I was considering an Intel X 25 - M 80 GB SSD for this first, but he refused later to the old faithful hard drive.

    2 x SAMSUNG HD502HJ of SpinPoint F3 500 GB in Raid 0 for overview of media pre-rendered cache, etc windows pagefile i.e. knit. files may also games.

    2 x SAMSUNG SpinPoint F3 HD103SJ 1 TB Raid 1 for data (project, captured, exported, movies music photos etc. all.) It is perhaps paranoid, but I never make backups and since 2004 kept all my data on an IDE HDD which fortunately still lives. But when my friend had 750Gb hdd die completely...

    He has lost all the collection of films, he has collected () there is

    I took these spinpoint HDDs because they have been suggested here on the forums, but I was surprised how on each site and each store only have positive feedback and comments from users.

    Power supply 1200W CHIEFTEC CFT-1200 G-DF - actually I'm not looking at this topic a lot, but this model has the most popularity and positive comments on the Web site of the shop where it is sold; I'm sure he's got enough power on all the rails. I take with a bit of reserve for the case I would add 2nd video card later. It's online power supply calculator gave me 850 Watt on this platform, I foresee (I select tdp of 100% of full load and all fans).

    Case - Antec twelve hundred. IMO, the best in the world... Tall, elegant and absolutely ventilation (the most important).

    And finally, I have some disturbing thoughts:

    (1) is it not too late for 1366? Like LGA2011 coming in late 2011, 1366 live at least another solid 2 years? And I mean direct be sufficient for the first.

    Is not as they exit a CS6 and say "k, now you need a Sandy Bridge for our new engine" or something else.

    How much truth beyond that? And how that applies to the first? Bulldozers have now all you need to SEE or what they call instructions

    to bring the i7 to its knees?

    Sorry for my English and thanks in advance for your answers!

    How long the socket 478 is dead? Still using the old system, right? The fact that a successor will appear at any time of the year, does not mean that all of a sudden all 1366 boards are dead. Of course, you realize that 1366 boards have a life span much longer than boards of 1156. Also, you realize there are still some 775 boards sold. In short, I wouldn't worry about a successor to the corner.

    Help me with the Bulldozer. Is Opteron 6128 a Bulldozer? If so, a dual core Opteron octo (total 16 hearts) with 40 GB memory always is about 3 times slower than the system fast 980 X. look here: Référence PPBM5

  • Suggestions for CS5 new hardware configuration

    I'm investing in new hardware to run CS5 of the House and I would like your suggestions and comments on my list of requirements below.  My hardware budget is about $750 for the Tower, I already have a beautiful Vizio 20 "monitor, a generic wireless mouse and keyboard.

    The problem that seems to be running is that I don't want a game system performance or a home theater system.  So far, the only way I can hit on home theater systems is not to watch what anyone with TV remotes.

    Preferred manufacturers: Acer/Gateway or HP but consider others.

    The whole system will only work CS5, associated with scanner and printers and an internet connection USB720.  He won't be networked or you need wifi capabilities.  I do mainly web production, some print jobs and no video or audio editing (or if I do it will play only).  Most of the heavy lifting will be Photoshop and InDesign.

    I will install a Wacom Bamboo tablet also after CS5 is in place, and I noticed other assignments that I should download the latest drivers for the 64-bit operating system.

    My list so far:

    OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (preloaded)

    Memory: 8 GB of RAM, + 2.2 GHz (by heart), Quad core configuration, but favorite DDR3 settle for DDR2

    HDD: 750 GB to 1 t or as much as I can get for the dollars

    USB ports: at least 2 more is

    Graphics card: am I locked in NVidia?  If so, the GeForce GT220 looks like standard

    Optical drive: DVD + - R/RW, not interested in Blu - ray

    Audio: everything that makes noise.

    Thank you for your ideas,

    Mary126

    Many users prefer ATI cards.  Personal choice because they

    both work well.

    If you have other data and scratch disks you have at least a C drive is huge, in my opinion.

    There are places that build custom computers, look on the web.

    HP doesn't have a computer with an eSata Port.  Dell computers from model 7100 do.  I bought a 9000.  It has space for 2 additional internal hard drives.  But was disappointed that there only 3 sata ports and one is used by the optical drive.  In order to check that it there are enough ports for what you want before you buy.

    Suggestion: Find a computer close to what you want and then call anywhere in the nearest big city and see if someone can build you one for a similar price.

    Make sure that the Weblogic password is correct in the boot.properties and restart the services.

    Boot.properties files would be present in D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\EPMSystem\servers\\security\boot.properties

    For example,.

    For APS:
    D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\EPMSystem\servers\AnalyticProviderServices1\security\boot. Properties

    For Regional service:
    D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\EPMSystem\servers\EssbaseAdminServices1\security\boot. Properties

  • I'll spend 6-6 s how can I get my health data from the old to the new iPhone configure everything as a new? I don't want to restore from a previous backup. Thank you

    I just got my new iPhone 6s, until now, I had the iPhone 6.

    as I use the Apple Watch I like to keep my health data but do not want to restore the entire backup to have a "fresh" iPhone

    Any idea?

    Thank you

    The only way to restore the health data is to backup the old phone and restore it on the new phone. You must use iTunes backup with active encryption, or backup to iCloud.

  • new site configuration

    In the new Site of the magician / advanced, when I try to use the standard Site on Mac (in my house, of course), DW 8 complains that there is another site in that folder and "there can be problems with the sync etc... "History: just installed DW 8 MX 2004 update. Quite successfully transferred the previous sites ("exported" since MX 2004 first) - has been flawless. The site DW 8 complains is one of these ancient sites.

    Thanks for the help, David Allen

    I have a resolution. If this is correct, I'm a little sheepish... And Alan was pointing in the direction all along.

    DW does not fill in the path, once a new Site is registered. As Alan, it is necessary to manually change the path name, so that a new folder is created. In my case of course that I want, and so must enter the name of the site I just entered the previous line.

    Thank you, Alan.

  • "The new tv configuration data cannot be downloaded" media center units

    Media center TV worked for about 3 years and just a few days after that I installed visasp1 and vista sp2 that he stopped recognizing tv signal and comes up with this message when I try to re-setup the signal and the guide (I use dell xps with built in tuner)

    Try this: -.

    http://www.hack7mc.com/2009/09/clearing-Guide-data-and-tuner-Setup-from-Windows-7-Media-Center.html

  • Media Center "new configuration data TV could not be downloaded.

    When initially implemented in Vista Media Center worked perfectly, then after about 3 months or so he left the information download guide.  I couldn't find a solution at this time.  Then I udated for Windows 7.  Now, he will even not be passed the original installation of the region.  Comes back with the error "Failed to download" new TV configuration data could not be downloaded. Existing data, if any, will be used as you continue through Setup TV signal.  That would be perfect, but there is no data available. Have you tried a lot a lot of difficulties on this and other sites, nothing seems to work. Really frustrated. Help, please.

    If you have double NAT. I don't know why you're using TWO routers.

    Here's what to try:

    start by writing down all of the current settings in the router DLink for SSID
    name, password for wifi and the admin password security.

    1. unplug the cable modem. Shut down all computers.

    2. unplug the USR8004 and remove it from your network

    3. disconnect the DLink router and then plug this DLink WAN port in the
    cable modem. Plug any computers wired on the on the DLink LAN ports

    4. plug the DLink router and make a DLink router factory reset. I think
    There is a hole reset at the back where the ports are, use a folded paper
    clip.

    5. when the router comes back to the top (you'll know by the lights), turn on a wired
    computer and you connect and configure the wireless, exactly as you had before and
    reset the admin password on what you did.

    6. the router should reboot. When that happens, reconnect the cable modem

    7. with the computer cable that is already in place, check the connectivity

    8. turn the touchsmart and nothing else

    This should solve the double NAT problem.

  • I've forgotten my pwd sync and the email I used is like. How can I copy my old info, acct (setting, Add - ons, ect.) without sync settings, a new account?

    I recently had to reset my computer to factory settings. After you install firefox, I realized that I had forgotten my password synchronization. Unfortunately, the email associated with my original account is now gone, so I can't just change my password. From now on, I copied my account from my laptop information and substituted default account on my desk information, so at least I have my favorites and other features the same parameters.

    Is it possible to create a new account and copy all my old settings (excluding the synchronized data) and create a new synchronization configuration? Or the method I've implemented will be effective to synchronize any bookmarks or changes that I do from one computer to another?

    You can feel free to simply create a Firefox Sync account.
    Follow this link: https://accounts.firefox.com/signin
    and click on "create an account".

    NOTE: If you are always connected to Sync, you must sign in first.

    Connect all your devices to your new account and you should be in business!

    I hope that helped!
