new tab opens suddenly to another web site

A new tab opens suddenly. The address in the tab 'redirected towards something or another' bed before loading the page. Windows recently showed a message that Firefox "blocking something or another" and I approved to stop blocking. Since this date... sites of mystery. Thank you, Bob

First of all, you are running a very old version of Firefox, please update Firefox 11 to get all the latest security patches.

Download and install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full scan. http://www.Malwarebytes.org/

Download and launch TDSSKiller http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363

Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials (no not official approval, but I personally recommend MSE as a great permanent anti-virus)

Check all Windows updates.

Then, start Firefox upward in Safe Mode to see if it's a faulty extension at the root of the problem.

  • New tabs opens is not in Web mode

    Hi, I used a webview to open the connection to facebook. The first page with a login into it button. When it is selected, it should actually open a new window (or new tab), but it isn't even in the current page in Web view. No idea what could be wrong?

    Hi SuhairZain,

    I can't reproduce this problem. I tested your URL by using two QML/C++: code below and I get login Facebook page loaded in Web view. (I tested it using BB N 10.1 SDK).

    I noticed that the page takes a few seconds to load.

    WebView {
                        id: webView
                        objectName: "webView"
                        url: "http://connectapp.hostoi.com/index.html"
                        settings.viewport: { "initial-scale" : 2.0 }
                        settings.zoomToFitEnabled: true
                        settings.activeTextEnabled: true}

            // Create root object for the UI
            AbstractPane *root = qml->createRootObject();

        QVariantMap map;
        map["initial-scale"] = 2.0;
        QUrl settingsPageUrl = QUrl("http://connectapp.hostoi.com/index.html");
        WebView *settingsWebpage = root->findChild("webView");
        settingsWebpage->setUrl(settingsPageUrl);
        settingsWebpage->settings()->setViewportArguments(map);

    If you still face the question, please advice on the SDK version you use? Which OS device / Simulator version tested on?

    Thank you

    Kareem.

    Make a check of malware with a few programs to scan for malware.
    You must use all of the programs, because each detect different malware.

  • New tab opens to the bad site

    I seem to have been recently infected with Ask search engine

    Everytime I open a new tab by default to this search engine. I want to reset so this new tab displays thumbnails of recently visited sites

    I followed the instructions of your Support Web site using about: config and newtab but preference under browser.newtab.url looks correct on the subject: newtab

    Yet the new tab always default to the search engine

    How can I reset to the thumbnails?

    TKS

    You can use the SearchReset extension to reset preferences to default values.

    Note that the SearchReset extension runs only once and then uninstalls automatically, so it will not appear on the page "> Firefox Add-ons" (topic: addons).

    You can open the topic: config page through the address bar and search Prefs that refer to ask.com.
    You can restore the default user set prefs ("BOLD") via the context menu.

    Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem.

    • Put yourself in the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance
    • Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode safe

    I wish that when I click the icon tab, which opens from Google?
    Is this possible?

    (in fact, the new tab maybe associated Bing that I see the logo to the right of the Bing search bar.

    Are you a list of 9 thumbnails of the sites recently visited on a new tab? This is a new feature in Firefox 13.

    To set your own custom to the new tab page, follow these steps:

    Go about: config in the address bar. Accept the warning. Search for browser.newtabpage.enabled. Double-click the result to the value False. Then, search for browser.newtab.url. Right-click and select Edit. In the box that appears, you can type a Web page (for example, Google you would type www.google.com). then close, restart Firefox and you should be good to go.

  • Firefox 8 puts new tabs opened from links in another tab at the end of the list, NOT next to the tab it just as in V3.6. I want it next to the tab that it comes. How can I do this?

    Question as noted, sums it up. When I click on the mousewheel on a link in a tab, for I want a new tab open with that link and want it beside the tab, I clicked on the link in any as Firefox V3.6 has done. Firefox 8 is always open the new tab at the end of the list and boy is that embarrassing!

    Please tell me how to solve this problem.

    Define the Boolean browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent true pref on the topic: config page.

    To open the topic: config page, type Subject: config in the address bar (address) and press the 'Enter' key, as you type the url of a Web site to open a Web site.

    If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access this page.

    • Use the filter at the top bar of the on: page config to more easily spot a preference.
    • Preferences that have changed also show "BOLD" (user set).
    • Preferences can be reset to the default value using the context menu if they are set of users
    • Preferences can be changed via the context menu: Edit (string or integer) or toggle (Boolean)
  • new tab opens my home page, but I want to open the more visited sites

    new tab opens my home page, but I want to open the most visited sites. Ad-aware messed up the settings.

    You can check the browser.newtab.url pref on the topic: config page and set this pref to your preferred the new tab page.

    • the new default tab with the tiles page is on: newtab
    • the default homepage is Subject: Home
    • to a blank page, you can use Subject: vacuum

    The pref browser.newtabpage.enabled must be set to true to use the page defined through browser.newtab.url like the new tab page.

    See this article on the page tab (topic: newtab):

    You can open the topic: config page via the address bar.
    You can accept the warning and click on "I'll be careful" to continue.

  • In Windows Media Player when I try to listen to a CD that I pulled it out of my computer, a new tab opens in Firefox "license cannot be downloaded because your Web browser is not supported.

    I use Windows Media Player 11 and I have Internet Explorer 8 is installed on XP Pro and when I try to listen to a CD that I pulled it out of my computer, a new tab opens in Firefox (my default browser), with the following message:

    The license can not be downloaded because your Web browser is not supported.
    To download a license, you must install Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or later.
    To install the latest version of Internet Explorer, see the Windows Update page.

    What do I need any type of license to, to listen to music, I ripped a CD I bought, and furthermore that the browser has to do with what ever automated procedure Microsoft Media Player must perform?

    Suspecting that not having IE selected as the default browser might be interfering, I did so (something I'm not impressed about) and instead, was taken through to a Windows Media Technologies page http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/pdrm/en/welcome.asp?challenge=AAEAAZB*vUQ029QDmL5QfLzVnjGCf9din34fu*twoJQKPK0Agme7r3JqmhpZNJIHdVJ3JF20CQEtGSO6im53G7MUAjceYDRQUZXp2ghI5bYyB7kJjpvQoHFJNtNRWAvEXvv!fk7GbENwhn1K0gzMvWstLFBf3Esp9laOTsOCLqO7FqCfeYinJkeEGUevauivoM3NLAJOP4exrtgQX4zeRcujxi7W7AmLGDNRhh2qEgP1WmXh2PkzNZXwSn3QznsTK8!up58P10sX&DRMVer=1.4&embedded=false that provided some information about Licensing and Migrations and offered the opportunity to Download a License.  However, after selecting this button has encountered an error: 438 unknown error occurred when you store your license.

    Where are the stored licenses and why this is happening with all the music I have on my computer?

    I would appreciate an overview of this and especially a viable solution.  Thanks for your time.
