Newbe to fiber / suggestion Hardware

I am an administrator of a network of small fiber optic, it consist of 90 computer, some with 1 GB and a few 100 MB fiber. Currently we have 6 AT8016 switches (16-port 100 MB fiber) and we want to replace it with 4 24-port fiber GB switches.

Doze, someone at - it recommendations of Cisco switches, I can use it.

Svein salvation,

I'm trying to understand your condition.

You need a switch with 24 ports Fibre with 10 GB interface (fibre)?

If this is the case, you can you a number of choices:

1 WS-C3560E-12SD has, as in the previous post, 2 X 2 10 Gb and FPS 12 x 1 GB ports.

2 4928-10GE offers 28 ports of wire-speed Gigabit Ethernet ports (SFP) and two wire-speed 10 Gigabit Ethernet (X 2 optical) fiber.

3 WS-3560E-12D has 12 X 2 10 GB ports. A 2 X using TwinGig adapter converting two SFP Gigabit Ethernet to 10 Gigabit Ethernet X 2 Interface Interfaces.

The next place is to get a chassis 4500 or 6500 (including overtime) and get the GBIC/SFP cards. Don't know if you want to go this route, because it is not solvent.

I hope this helps.

  • Install - 11.1.2.1 - suggested Hardware

    Hello

Install the following: planning, Essbase, ODI, EPMA, fin Mgr Calc, Essbase Studio, EAS, reports etc... Basically, everything EXCEPT HFM and Strategic Finance. A complete environment of Essbase/Planning. Looked at using 3 VM under Win Server 2008. My question is what is the configuration recommended on each of the 3 servers? In my view, that essbase must make on its own server. But you need to know how to set up the other two servers.

If I choose just install everything on a single server, which is the recommended specifications of a server that I should look? Has been thought at least 8 GB Ram. Maybe more. It will also be a 64 bit OS.

    Thank you!!!

When sizing of the servers in the first question you should ask is how much under license to users and then maybe what kind of concurrent user load.

When you go from 10 users from 100 to 1000 there are different considerations a little thinking about the design.

For a small all in one server for a number of small users say 10-50 new documents of deployment of Oracle for an all in one should be enough. If you start hitting the brand hundreds user considers separate key services servers again the deployment of new guides will be a pinch.

When you start hitting the bar of 250-500 user you can be served better by finding someone who focuses on Hyperion Infrastructure either Oracle or one of the Oracle partners.

PS 8 GB for a single server installation is far too small especially with all products, what you are talking about.

    Kind regards

  • Newbie needing help on hardware

Hello everyone I am new here has read some of the posts here.  I'm going to buy CS4 production in the coming weeks from Yes FCP, I know it's bad word here.  In any case I'll build my own computer, and I was reading on one of the post on the hard drives.  One for an OS for file/scratch/rendering of the page and one for the media.  Could someone give me a little more in detail. What is a swap file?  And CS4 will give the possibilities of this medium? I will be editing DV, AVCHD and P2 in the future.

    1. do I need a raid drive?

2 are two other media players and made internal or external?

    3. If external can someone give me an example of a configuration-eSATA, firewire etc.?

I was reading that the Matrox RTX2 was not necessary.

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

All readers are preferable to internally if it is practical.  If you want to use an external drive for storage or transport to another machine - ok.

  • Tecra M2 and wireless network - signal strength problem

    Need advice buying wireless kit.

I have a DSL phone line connection and I am currently using a Speedtouch USB modem connected to my workstation down.

I have a laptop Toshiba Tecra M2 with construction of wireless support. I want to be able to share the internet connection which comes in the workstation down. I guess that my options for the workstation are to use a DSL wireless modem to share the internet connection or to use a PCI card in my computer. I tried them both.

I first tried to set up an infra mode network with the laptop using a LinksysWAG54G which was connected to the telephone line and a computer. But the problem with that I was t couldn't do accept the subnet mask that my ISP (Lixxus) provided 255.255.255.255 (PPoA). This modem has all the masks of SN in a dropdown list, but mine isn't in this list. I returned this modem.

I tried then set up an adhoc network purchase buy a PCI Wireless card for my desktop, and internet connection sharing etc. on the workstation. However, while it worked, and I could see the desktop of my laptop, the problem has been the wireless range. The signal disappear when I wore the laptop in the back room on the first floor. It would have been a distance of 10 meters in a straight line between the laptop and desktop. There are walls two bricks and a floor between the two machines. It seemed hopeless, so I sent the PCI card.

I'm not sure what to try next.

Any suggestions that I could try next?

    Suggested hardware?

Signal strength - could the problem be that the antenna in portable insufficient Tosh - it too small?

    Hello

I have the same situation at home. The best solution for this is to use the wireless router. Here you have the possibility to connect several computers desktop or laptop. In this case the configuration of wireless connection is very easy and it works fine. I also use it at home and in front of my house with no problems.

What happens when you connect it to iTunes to your computer, does not recognize it? In the case against you then have a required operating system on the computer and iTunes from your computer is a high enough version? If your OS and iTunes are quite high then you should be able to use the computer to reset the iPad.

  • His failure of latitude E 6420

My unused laptop 2 months when turned on I have now no sound on speakers, taken helmet, or via the HDMI output on my TV, I have video but no sound. I checked what is obvious, Device Manager reports all works correctly for the sound section. I checked "windows sound" and that's ok too.

Driver see 6.10.0.6324, I suspect a failure of the sound card if so what sound card is used? bit of help and advice please. OS win 7 pro.

    concerning

    Brian

    dumduck
you say that they wrong driver is installed

Brian, I said that's it. Go to the Latitude E6420 html page and scroll down to Audio. The html page displays all drivers available for a given model. There is no 6.10.0.6324 IDT version here. So I searched an IDT 6.10.0.6324 and found his page.  Watching his systems supported, it only shows a couple of Vostro and Inspiron.

    dumduck
I went through every folder, subfolder ect twice and there is that anything named ADM.

I downloaded the IDT 6.10.0.6324 (name of file R297811) driver for my computer and unzipped Dell Drivers folder default location (then canceled the installation process). Here is a screenshot of the result showing its WDM subfolder.

    dumduck
The original HD has been cloned on an SSD that I used for about 8 months with no problems until now and this problem of his frustration I returned the original HD, but who showed the same noise problem. There may be a failure of the device on e M/B.

The reason why I mentioned the performing a recovery of the system is that it is an excellent tool for diagnosis, because it contains a known good configuration that has audio work, so that if the audio does not work when tested immediately after a system recovery, you know that there was a hardware failure. If your laptop was audio job by the time you removed the original hard drive, then replacing the hard drive in the laptop computer of origin is equivalent to perform a system recovery - in the sense to use it as a diagnostic tool to determine if there is a hardware failure. So if you tested audio immediately after the installation of the original hard disk, before the updates and others could change the configuration, then it suggests hardware failure.

    dumduck
But why device manager state all works well?

Device Manager is not a hardware diagnostic tool. When he says a device works fine it mainly means that a driver is installed for the device and appears to communicate with her. If a driver refuses to install then it is a symptom that the appliance is damaged to the point that the driver cannot identify or contact him.

I don't know why your system is saying that the IDT 6.10.0.6324 driver is the suitable driver for your model, or why you can't remove it, or why it does not appear in your Dell Drivers folder. I don't think that anyone would be caused by a hardware failure.

I know you said a few times that you tried all my advice with "no joy". Does this mean that you were not able to test the native driver or you have installed the Windows native driver there but still no sound? If you hear no sound with the native driver which would also be an indication of hardware failure. However the only 100% for sure test is to perform a system restore.

If he used to install any suggestions for a good cheap scanner who is compatible windows 7... Thanks steve

    Hello

    1. What is the exact error message you are getting?

    Please follow the steps below.

It seems that the product is perhaps not compatible with Windows 7. see the link below.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-7/en-us/details.aspx?type=hardware&p=Xerox%20OneTouch%204800%20Scanner&v=Xerox&UID=4800&l=en-us&pf=0&PI=0&s=Xerox%204800%20scanner&OS=32-bit

    Method 1:

Try to install the driver in Windows Vista compatibility mode and check if it works very well.

    Use the links below.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows

I would also ask that you contact the device manufacturer to verify compatibility with Windows 7.

You can use your search engine preferred to choose a scanner which is Windows 7 compatible for your computer.

  • Implementation of the Suggestion for hardware OLIVIER

    Hi all

We will implement analytic OBIA for Oracle Financials R12.1.3 and Procure and spend analytical.

Source database will be E-Business Suite R12.1.3 where Oracle Financials and acquisition Modules are already being implemented.

We'll go with the last product of press i.e

    OBIEE 11.1.1.6.8 (so far)
    OLIVIER 7.9.6.4
    Informatica 9.1 HF2
    DAC 11g.

Number of users for EBS will be about 500 and number of users for OLIVIER will be around 100.

I need suggestions on the material. What will be the hardware recommended with above products.

There will be more good if you suggest BONE recommended for specific products as well.

    Here is my own suggestion.

There will be a total 4 servers.

1 OBIEE with 16 GB of Ram and 2 x 3 GHz processor, 400 GB hard drive
2 Informatica/DAC server with 12 GB of Ram and 2 x 3 GHz processor, 400 GB hard drive
    3 Informatica/DAC servewith 8 GB Ram and 2 x 3 GHz CPU, 200 GB hard drive
4 Dataware House with 8 GB Ram and 2 x 3 GHz processor, 5 TB hard drive

My suggestion would be more or less on the limits. as I do all of this as a guess.

Yet is there any method to calculate the sizing of the equipment?

    Thank you
    Naeem Akhtar

    Hello

As Abhishek Anand says there is no need to have a server for Informatica / DAC client - Client tools can be installed on the laptop.
I think that configuration OBIEE OBIEE is very good (16 GB, 6 CPU) but your database does not respect the requirement (Minimum recommended: 8 cores minimum CPU - RAM: 8 GB - your configuration: 6 processor cores, RAM: 8 GB).
You can add more CPU and RAM on your configuration (ex: 8 CPU - 16 GB of RAM).

For a study of sizing on your environment OBIA, you must contact an Oracle sales.

    Best regards

    Benoit

    2 X HP DISK ENCLOSURE D2700

    1 X HP MDS9124 8 PORTS ACTIVE FABRIC SWI

    8 X HP LC - LC 5 M CABLE SET

    1 X VMWARE ADV ACC 6PRO

    1 X VMWARE ADV ACC 1Y PSN 6PROC

Could you please tell me what I forget on the virtual platform of Vmwae?

    Thank you

    Yes. 2 switches for redundancy.

Your host should also have redundandt NIC. Having 2 NICs for Public traffic going to the network switch/router.

2 NICs for SAN traffic. If you use fiber then HBA. Those who go directly to the fiber switches, which then connect to the San.

You may also have a separate network for your vCenter management traffic and/or the vmotion, etc. fault tolerance. This would require and additional 2 cards network and VLAN separated.

  • Suggestions for CS5 new hardware configuration

I'm investing in new hardware to run CS5 of the House and I would like your suggestions and comments on my list of requirements below.  My hardware budget is about $750 for the Tower, I already have a beautiful Vizio 20 "monitor, a generic wireless mouse and keyboard.

The problem that seems to be running is that I don't want a game system performance or a home theater system.  So far, the only way I can hit on home theater systems is not to watch what anyone with TV remotes.

Preferred manufacturers: Acer/Gateway or HP but consider others.

The whole system will only work CS5, associated with scanner and printers and an internet connection USB720.  He won't be networked or you need wifi capabilities.  I do mainly web production, some print jobs and no video or audio editing (or if I do it will play only).  Most of the heavy lifting will be Photoshop and InDesign.

I will install a Wacom Bamboo tablet also after CS5 is in place, and I noticed other assignments that I should download the latest drivers for the 64-bit operating system.

    My list so far:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (preloaded)

Memory: 8 GB of RAM, + 2.2 GHz (by heart), Quad core configuration, but favorite DDR3 settle for DDR2

HDD: 750 GB to 1 t or as much as I can get for the dollars

USB ports: at least 2 more is

Graphics card: am I locked in NVidia?  If so, the GeForce GT220 looks like standard

Optical drive: DVD + - R/RW, not interested in Blu - ray

    Audio: everything that makes noise.

    Thank you for your ideas,

    Mary126

Many users prefer ATI cards.  Personal choice because they

    both work well.

If you have other data and scratch disks you have at least a C drive is huge, in my opinion.

There are places that build custom computers, look on the web.

HP doesn't have a computer with an eSata Port.  Dell computers from model 7100 do.  I bought a 9000.  It has space for 2 additional internal hard drives.  But was disappointed that there only 3 sata ports and one is used by the optical drive.  In order to check that it there are enough ports for what you want before you buy.

Suggestion: Find a computer close to what you want and then call anywhere in the nearest big city and see if someone can build you one for a similar price.

  • My menu has stopped working. I disabled add-ons, started in safe mode, disabled hardware acceleration and all the other suggestions but nothing helps.

Everything worked fine until a few days ago. I tried all of the suggestions for similar problems, but the problem remains. I don't have the problem with Internet Explorer.

I found the problem! It was my wireless mouse, who must be dying or something, although I remember a fall just before the problem started. In any case, after switching to my old mouse wired, everything is back to normal. I suggest that anyone else has the same problem first check their mouse.

  • Some suggestions for a hardware upgrade on P20 S203

Hi, I upgraded my satellite P20 S203 because I now have a untimely budget of 500 euros.
I would just have a few suggestions.
First of all: it's crazy to think about changing the motherboard? And if it seems not too crazy, one of which (obviously to toshiba, because it must harmonize perfectly with all of the equipment, or if you know another name that would go well in the laptop...).
Second, a REAL soundcard with line of external references in & out (yes I play guitar... :-))), any suggestion is welcome, even if I already have a few names in my mind.
Thirdly, a wireless card, this model had a place dedicated... my thought woul be obviously for a toshiba, you think? I should any problem if I chose the 100 Mbit/s, one?
Oh, I hope you will help me decide... any personal experience on the upgrade of this model is really welcome.
    Thank you
    See you soon

    Hello Nerd,

You can only change a few things on a laptop, such as the memory or HARD drive. A laptop is not a desktop computer. Most of the components are designed for a single model and they do not fit in any other model.

So, I am sorry to say that you can't improve your mother and sound card.

But you can put a wireless card in your laptop.
    Standard WiFi 802. 11 b
The best way is to buy from a Toshiba service partner. Here you get the right card.

    Hope this has been helpful.
