  Hello abcbuck, you could try to go to control panel of configuration, devices and printers, and there should be a list of icons showing the Fax, printer and other icons.

  Watch and see if the Fax has a green check mark in the Fax icon. If so, this would indicate that the fax is set as the default value.

  To change the printer's default value, if there is an icon for your printer, right click on the printer icon and select the default value.

  It should work under Windows 7.

  A file with FXR and FXM file extensions is a Document received from WinFax.

  You can open the FXR and FXM file by double clicking on it and let your PC decide which default application should open the file.   If no program opens, the FXR and FXM file, then you have probably an installed application that can view and/or edit FXR and FXM files.

  You can use a Notepad or another text editor to open these files.  Number of files is files read-only, which means little matter file extension, a text editor may be able to view the contents of the file properly.  This may or may not be the case with FXR and FXM files, but it's worth a try.

  How a FXR and FXM files:
  There are two ways to try to convert a file to a different file type:

  a. open the FXR file in its default program and choose to save the file open in another file format.

  b. use a softwarefrom online file conversion to convert these files to another file format.
  
  Note: using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

  You can select the print queue named "Fax - HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910" and not the operating system Fax driver.

• HP J3680 Fax Windows 8.1

  I can't Fax directly from Windows 8.1 to the fax of a J3680.  I have download and install driver 8.1.

  (1) I can print correctly

  (2) I can copy correctly

  (3) I can Fax manually correctly

  When you try to fax directly... The pop-up window for the distination of come up... I filled information... but fax will not shut down.

  Of course I can print and fax manually... but it is a temporary workaround...

  Any idea on where to find the next?

  I can send and receive faxes using Microsoft fax in windows component, but fax status window does not appear when sending or receiving.  How can I fix?

  Also take a look in the event viewer (start > run > eventvwr > OK) for errors or warnings related to the fax system.  If you find one, double-click on it to open the event properties, and click on 2 pages below the up/down arrow icon to copy the events to the Clipboard.  Then paste it in your response.

  2. click on the view menu, click Add/Remove columns.

  I hope that I can be useful.  Double-click the solution Center icon and look under 'Settings' or 'tools '.  You see an option to turn off notifications here?  Look at the chapters of copies or faxes as well.  I will also consider where exactly this option is the solution Center myself if you can't find it.

  If you don't see everywhere here to turn it off then press your Start button to me if it pleases you and go to 'control panel '.  Go to 'Programs', then open "Add/Remove Programs".  What do you see listed in the list of things to uninstall that have to do with your HP printer?

  Advice from the comprehensive user guide that it may be a software called "HP Image Zone" because it offers context-sensitive help.  It is located in the center of solutions as well.  I would check for a setting turns off until I uninstalled it whatever it is.

• Fax window appears when I try to print photos

  Been trying for weeks to fix this very frustrating. Printer works fine for normal printing. Problem when you try to print photos, whether they come from photo file or memory card. I get the photo all together to the top, but when I hit the key "printing" on the screen of the fax arrives. I've never used the fax and is not connected to a phone. Have tried everything I can think of, including the uninstall of the printer and put it back, using the installation cd. I'd appreciate any ideas on how to correct the problem.

  When the printer is installed, a standard printer and a fax printer are both installed.  In many programs, there is a quick print button and a standard print button.  If you use the standard print button, a print dialog box opens and you can choose the printer.  If you use the Quick Print button, the dialog box does not usually and you do not have a choice of printers.

  Take a look at the print dialog box and open the printer options so you can see the printers installed on your computer.  Don't forget to use the printer which doesn't have a 'Fax' in the title.

  Pass like a Flash will not help.  Unlike an email which will act as a mechanism to transfer files, Fax transfer images and nothing else.  An "attachment" to a fax is not a file transfer (that is why I want expensive that they wouldn't use this word), it is a document to display in a table that is transmissible. If the document is not in a format that the Fax engine can make an image, this (or similar) error (s) occurs.  The usual solution is to let the application that created the document rendered by this request to print the document to the fax printer.

• How to open .tif files using the Windows fax and picture viewer

  I have the file open options set to use the viewer photo and fax Windows, however, it is always opens the .tif file in a window of IE. In reading the other posts regarding this problem, I think it may be a number of MIME, but nobody published how to fix this. Can someone send please how to change the MIME type so I can open the files in the right way. I REALLY appreciate it.

• photo & Windows fax viewer

  When I scan and save as PDF is open with the viewer photo & fax from windows but when I try to open it I have to right click on a blank page and open with Adobe.  I'm so severe.  I put my default to scanning to save in searchable pdf format.  Every time I open a document scanned the icon and extension is pdf but it opens with the viewer photo and fax window, but there is nothing on the screen and right-click to open with Adobe.  ARRRRGGGGG.  Please someone help me.

  Make a right click any pdf file and click 'Open with', go to choose program, select Adobe Reader and check the box always 'using the program selected... '. "and then click OK.

  This should fix your pdf file extension association.
