• Newbe question about the network configuration of ESXi 3.5

  I have ESXi 3.5 works well on a Dell Poweredge T300 server.  I want to connect a Netgear ReadyNas Pro Business Edition for this Dell and connect by iscsi.

  I want to connect 1 network card of the ReadyNas for 1 network card on the Dell printer.

  My question is on the Dell when I go to the ESXi server and customize by pressing F2 and goto network settings I see the following:

  X vmnic0 embeeded nic1

  NIC2 integrated vmnic1 used by vswitch1

  I'm may be thick but can you explain what NIC on the ESXi server is used for access interenet and I need to configure for iscsi?  I thought that it should be obvious, but it is vmnic0 or vmnic1?

  Your ESXi host has two vswitchs configured what uplinks to physical NIC in the system.

  vSwitch0 what uplinks to vmnic0 (who, although a red x, indicating a problem seems to be very well) this vswitch holds you management interface (IP 192.168.2.107) and a portgroup of VM for your virtual machines. You also have an another vswitch vswitch1 what uplinks to GB NIC vmnic1. This vswitch has unused virtual machine port group. Also a VLAN ID has been set for this vswitch which would lead me to believe that VST is / was operating on that host in the past.

  Haven't you set up this? If this isn't the case, I would get with one who did.

• Newbie question for the Oracle application server

  Hi Master,
  a DBA I am interesting to broaden my skill with learning on the application server.
  I knew that in the past before Weblogic bought by Oracle, Oracle, always using Oracle application server.
  Now with the Weblogic gaining more popularity on the market, which is the product the value of learning and get certified.
  
  Is it still useful to take Application Server 10 g or go with Weblogic. in certification path, Weblogic 10 g.
  WebLogic now replaces the Oracle application server, average abandoned Oracle Application Server?

  Make it part of the same system (now). Like WebLogic is the portal and the Jukebox, forms etc. are the records.

  What book other than the documentation that you have found the right one for learning.

  Yet to find one, Oracle documentation was OK.

  Is it better to learn the Linux or Windows version?

  Both are very well, choose the operating system you know better.

  I built my Middleware on Linux 64-bit test. Note that the 32-bit version allows to run Forms and Reports Developer.

  Beware of pre-installation tasks

  Install the Oracle database
  Linux RCU (repository creation utility)

  Database

  Use an existing database. (And it worked)

  My test was divided into four main parts: (in this order)

  Installation of the regional coordination unit
  WebLogic Server Install
  Install JRocket
  Forms and reports Install

  According to me, it took me two or three times to do things. (or at least work)

• Simple (hopefully) newbie question on the Export model

  Entirely new to ODM - so please be gentle! - and you would really appreciate to help smart people.
  
  We use ODM (10 g) to make some predictive analytics (SVM). The question I have is:
  
  Once a model is 'built' and trained on historical data, can model that be exported to and used in another environment (external) Oracle (assuming of course that the data columns are equivalent)?
  
  Can you tell me if the model is exported as an ODM object - and so would require an instance of the ODM to the outside environment. Or, if it is exportable in the form of, say, a table of coefficients that may simply be questioned outside without needing an instance of ODM.

  Yes, you can export/import a model from an Oracle database to a different Oracle DB using the pl/sql API, documented in the doc PL/SQL Packages and Types.

  If you build a SVM model using the linear option, you can extract the coefficients in table form and import them into an Oracle database in some mid-layer service or not.

• Sound weird distortion on Export - Newbie question not the Compression

  I'm trying the demo Flash CS3 - OSX. (Using OS x 10.4.10.)
  
  I have a timeline a bit complicated with about 8 layers and some alpha fading things and out and a lot of sound samples used as sound effects timeline (forget the term, but attached to the frames don't not streaming). No script writing.
  
  The sounds are too long most for the amount of time allotted to them in the timeline and cut the previous sounds. I speculate that this could be a possible problem. In other words, I said 5 second sound, which has only 3 seconds of time to play, before another sound, he interrupts in the same layer of the timeline.
  
  There are two distinct layers of the sound at the same time.
  
  All original sounds are imported into the film as erroneous 44.1/16 bits. What are mono files (could be another possible problem).
  
  I'm trying to export with 128 k MP3 quality. I tried different variations:
  
  -the compression setting for audio files in the library/setting film export settings to use the settings of the library
  
  -definition of the audio files in the library to use 'default compression' and specifying the correct setting of MP3 128 k in the export settings
  
  - or both of them (individually defined in the library and then overridden in export settings).
  
  I tried with and without the 'single use' parameter (both in the library files and export settings). (This is a question for me: what should be set properly so that when the original file is already mono?)
  
  Sometimes, everything is great. I have test or export the movie and the sound is fine.
  
  Other times I test or export the movie - with exactly the same audio as the last time when it worked - and now get a hissing/cracking sound unbearably ugly instead of the correct sound.
  
  More dangerously - I think but did not quite convince myself - the same export flash file can sometimes play end and sometimes play with the distortion. So I'm not sure if it's a question of export, Flash player problem or combination of export do something semi-bizarre that the player sometimes only chokes on. A 'bad' export is distorted in the desktop Flash Player that comes with the Flash demo, both in a browser with the Flash 9 r45 (OSX) plugin.

  What is the product of $800 which is little more than a Basic for the script text editor and an animation timeline that did not feature update since 1999.

  It is looking like it is a bug of Flash CS3 app.

  The app is intermittently lose range of the sound/document library settings or just chokes sometimes MP3 Converter trying to convert AIFF to MP3 files on the export of the film.

  Fortunately, it looks like once a .swf movie is exported, it will be distorted or not and is not a problem of random play or player.

  So you can just export several times until you get a 'good' (!).

  I've only got with export MP3 128 k, never with 64 k MP3 to export. For 128K, it seems that fiddling with the sound settings before trying to export can prevent distortion. My best results seem to be:

  -all the wrong in the library, the value 'default - compression.

  -Publish settings of ' event Audio: MP3, 128kpbs, Mono; Substitute uncontrolled sound settings

• Newbie question about the firmware loading and music

  Hi all.  Firstly a bit of background.  I am a former admin of system IT I got a C240 as a gift.  I tried to remove the music from Windows Vista section of the computer where the C240 is listed as a portable device.  Now, I can't get things to work quite right.  I seem to have the 8 original songs/5 albums that come with the device.  The number has doubled to 16, and half of them cannot play.  I'm not sure I want to do with this device, but I want to clear in addition to all the current music and load my own.  I tried to download the update of the firmware and it still just waiting and never took the screen "search for updates".

  Also, I have Media Player 11 and it does not recognize the unit.  So, how do Media Player to see the device, copy music to it and delete the prepackaged songs accompanying?  Any help will be appreciated.  I don't want to choose the format from the settings menu, unless it's the way to go.  Arrest me please make any more mistakes!  Thanks in advance for help a dummie MP3!  -Victor

  OK I got when I hit reset I changed the USB to MSC settings to automatic detection.  So I reset on MSC.  Now I see the Unit 11 MP so how can I delete and add music?  Thanks for bearing with me! -Victor

  Just look at whether the separator for CSV is be a comma in your culture, you probably need to adjust the separator in the Join method!

• Newbie question: place the Illustrator .eps or .ai file in InDesign

  I have an Illustrator file contains text that has been converted to outline text.  When I placed .ai or .eps version of the file in a new InDesign document, the text is composed of pixel blocks that make it not only unsightly but also illegible. My goal is to place that looks like it is in Illustrator and is resizable as vector.  This is my first shot using InDesign so I don't know that I do something wrong, I just don't know what.  I'd appreciate any help.  Thank you!

  You did nothing wrong; not sure that ID displays previews low-resolution images. You can view previews full resolution images placed by going to view-> display performance-> display high quality, or you can right-click on any one image and set its resolution of preview in its own menu of display performance, just that a placed image.

• Newbie question: using the pen tool

  Hi, I drew a shape with the tool pen in Flash CS4. When I double click on the line, it highlights the whole shape, but I can not complete for some reason any.  If I single click, that part of the line is highlighted (before he changes the angle). How can I get this line to connect as a form to invoke filling on it?

  This does not mean that having a closed shape.  is there a visible gaps?  (if you have a vision problem, you can use the magnifying glass tool.)

• Comblete newbie question on the issue of duplication VOD

  the fms 3.5 was just installed on my server and I wanted to have a folder where I'll have my fla videos in my file of members (which requires a login) and another outside the members folder (which could be accessed by anyone).

  In certain parts only of the fms manual says that the fms to ierarchy adapters, a vhosts or applications that could be reproduced as many times as necessary, so I guess my folder initially created fms - vod could simply reproduce where I want in my physical server.

  He was waiting for me in the manual that the fms.ini file conf file shows the path to a duplicate files I want, so I found this file in one of the folders fms (somehow, I have 2 folders at the root of my server fms: one of them is a shortcut to the location of the installation and the other is the file that I downloaded the application for installation, but only one of them had this fms.ini file) , but when I tried to add the suggested in the line of manuals on pointing to another location to a new vod folder, I got a message that I didn't have permissions to edit this file and even attempts to re-chmode it could not on my side.

  1. is it possible to duplicate a folder locations of other vod servers?

  2. what should I do for this?

  3 place one of them in a folder that requires the connection going to the fla secure inside videos (not allowed to bind or download without a login), right?

  When you install FMS, there are some default location where 'live' and 'vod' applications are present and this folder is the folder "applications" that you can find in . This "request" is a directory where you can place your own applications, its as a repository.

  Now, you can configure your application directory. I mean that you can have more than one applications directory location. You just need to add one more entry separated by semicolons in fms.ini or Vhost.xml.

  Open the fms.ini and search the VHOST. APPSDIR. By default, it would be like

  VHOST. APPSDIR = /applications

  Change this way (assuming you record member area is C:\MemberArea and the preview area is C:\Preview)

  VHOST. APPSDIR = \applications; C:\MemberArea; C:\Preview

  So now you can connect to one of the requests that are in all of these 3 files.

  I think that the confusion arises in your mind, because you're trying to apply concepts of Web Applications for FMS.

  Like I said before, you can get you use cases without keeping applications in separate folders and I explained before how do this in my earlier answers.

• newbie question on the rendering of text with the movement

  I'm new to Flash and after 10 hours of training, self-taught and little results, I would like to ask the experts for help.  In a flash animation I want three lines of text where I want line1 to appear with a predefined query, then line2 below line1 appear with a predefined query, then line3 row2 to appear with the preset motion aplomb.  I want to have the smallest possible file to fla.  Can someone advise how to do this?

  Jay,

  The text layer a movieClip is on its own layer and I just applied a percentage of alpha to the last movieClip on layer one. You can see my tween of a percentage alpha of 100 up to a percentage of 35 alpha.

  An excellent resource for the animation of the timeline is the book of Chris Georgenes... "How to cheat in Adobe Flash CS3". There is also a book for CS4.

  You can also do this same thing with ActionScript 2 and ActionScript 3. It is however a bit more of a subject in depth.

  Yes, both versions can produce webhelp but HR HTML allows you to present the things you can't do in HR for Word. See Twisties on my site for example.

  You will also better get HTML HTML HR who, while you are a beginner can bother you, it will probably be later.

  Another reason to go with HR HTML is that it is more popular and better supported in these forums. If you hit a problem with HR for Word, you can not get responses too these days.

  Now let's look at your work scenario. As Colum as said, you can generate a printed document HR HTML for your small business. Any document that you give them, you do not want to import. Instead you're going to make the changes yourself then what version you use becomes academic.

  Output print suggests not HR for Word. See the section on my site about printed Documentation. Which is written for RH HTML and yet once again, control is better, yes the better.

  Given your knowledge of Word, I understand your desire to remain in his comfort zone. I was even initially but Rick Stone (Robowizard on these forums) have convinced me that this was not the best way. Of course, you're in for a few sorrows, but everyone here will help you. • Way Newbie Question - under the date limits

  I have to produce a presentation Monday flash - and need to play a small (200 x 200) .swf file in my file of 800 x 600. I'm slowly going nuts trying to 'play' a .swf file in my project, which will be recorded as a .swf file, of course... I can link to the file via a button, but it is too small, and of course, I can't resize without the .fla file, right? I need to play the small file on my biggest stage - how I can import it?   Probly do not "import" the swf file. Instead, you can read the file running.
  Directions for use:
  If you have Flash Professional... you can use the "Loader". Just place the component of loading on your stage and set the parameter "contentPath" about the location of the swf file. See the following link for more information:

  If you do not have Flash Professional, you will need to use the code (actionscript) instead. I would like to know if this is the case.

  For now and for future use, please state which version of Flash you use. That is to say. Flash MX, Flash 8, Flash Professional 8...

• Via the command script / Sudoers question

  After trying to understand the solution for my part, I only managed to come up with a partial solution.

  Main question:

  I want to use an alias of office to shut down the computer. The reason is that I wish to first run another command without having to open a terminal every time.

  And also, I don't want to enter a password every time.

  Based on my homework, I created a text file, it gave an extension .command, did a chmod + x and then tried to use to run the following commands, both starting with a space to keep them out of the history of the orders:

  Echo password | sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume = 80%

  Echo password | sudo shutdown-h now

  The commands work fine if I already have a sudo in terminal of this session. If I don't then I'm invited my password.

  I even tried to add me in the sudoers file (in the last line) but that did not help:

  Steve ALL = (ALL) NOPASSWD: / sbin/poweroff, /sbinreboot, / sbin/shutdown, / usr/sbin/nvram

  When it comes to Linux type stuff, I am just a monkey-see, monkey-do person, so if you give me good advice, I can come back with a response like, "What is a power cord?" Please be as gentle as possible.

  Secondary issue:

  Everytime I open terminal I get a list of stuff like indicated below (there are several, I just cut and paste one of them). Anyone know how to stop this?

  There is a way.  It is NOT the only way.

  Google "ssh passwordles".

  Set up your account without password ssh logins.

  Now, take the ~/.ssh/id_*.pub file and put the contents of the file in the "/var/root/.ssh/authorized_keys of the root file (you will need to use sudo to perform this change)."

  The id_*.pub file will probably be id_dsa.pub or id_rsa.pub, but it could be slightly different.

  Now, you can

  SSH root@localhost shutdown-h now

  and you will not have a password.

  NOTE: Make sure your id_ * (not the .pub file), which is your private key NEVER leaves your control and copies are not where someone else can get his hands on it.  If someone else gets your id_ file *, they can connect to your system with a password.

  NOTE 2: There are ways to put a password your ssh keys and store them in your keychian.  Google: "ssh password in keychain".  It would be safer than no password, but you will still need to keep control of your keychain file.  It's always something
