Newbie - Server and Desktop (same machine)

I have a processor AMD 6 / 32 GB memory/2 (1 to) readers.  Using it as a home/training box/gaming server machine.   I have operational vSphere with some guests WXP.  However, I would like to take advantage of the graphics card that came with the machine for the games, so I want to be able to run an operating system alongside vSphere or as a guest which is accessible from the console of the physical server.  Is this possible?

What really want to do is to have a machine that someone can sit at the console and play games while others are accessed remotely using virtual guests.  For users to access at the same time is a necessity.

This is not possible with vSphere, ESXi. Its a hypervisor business who does not know which software support third-party user like UI (console) games.

For this, you can go to VMware Workstation, which is installed on a Linux or Windows host OS.

1. install Linux/Windows on the server.

2. install the VMware workstation.

3. create virtual machines.

4. install the game.

In this case you can play the game on this server to the console. At the same time others may access their virtual machines.

    You should not install client tools because they will be automatically installed w install the server. The 11g installation guide says "do not install client tools on the same computers that host your server instances Oracle Business Intelligence, client tools are already installed on these computers (as part of the installation of Oracle Business Intelligence)."

    If we install the application and the server of Oracle database in a single machine, must we always install the client from the Oracle instance?

    Thank you and best regards,

    I would use two accounts of the operating system where the application administrator and database administrator are held by different people with different responsibilities.

    It is not critical to maintain client inventory with the server.

    Richard - Welcome to the forums.

    "You can not have VMware Server installed on the same host with another product VMware as VMware Workstation, VMware GSX Server and VMware ESX. You cannot have multiple versions of VMware Server installed on the same host.

    Only VMware products which may share a host with VMware Server are client VMware VirtualCenter (VMware Infrastructure Client) and the server software and the VMware Converter. If you plan to install VMware Server on a host of the machine which already

    contains another VMware product, you must uninstall this product first. »

  • vCenter Server and Manager on the same virtual machine and on the same host ESXi update that they manage

    Hi all

    I have a question to which I did not respond.

    I have an ESXi 5 on Proliant DL380 G7 server host. I want to install vCenter Server and Manager Update on one of the Server 2008 R2 VM on the same host. I know it's possible, but my question is how Update manager will provide updates to the same ESXi host it will run on? The update is applied every time host must spend in maintenance mode and power off the virtual computer running on this subject which means he'll kill VM where vCenter Server and Update Manager is running and the update will fail right?

    Is that possible at all or the VCS and UM such as a virtual computer operating point is updated to other guests if you have them or vMotion as VM to another host when you want to update the VCS and UM host is running?

    Thanks in advance.

    It will not work.  You will need at least two hosts.  This way you can vMotion the vCenter VM to another host.  From there, you can use VUM.  Otherwise, you will need to patch the host as a stand-alone host.

    See below for patching a standalone host

  • Web server and the apex running on the same machine - possible conflict port 8080

    Hi guys,.

    I installed Apache Tomcat and currently in the process of installing Oracle 11 G in the same machine.

    The tomcat uses port 8080 and I understand other installs, the APEX uses 8080 as well.

    Is there way after installing Oracle 11 G database XE, stop APEX so it is not in conflict with the use of 8080 Tomcat? I have no use for APEX at this point you want to stop if possible.

    Alternatively, it can be configured to use a different port?

    Thank you very much.

    You can do either, stop it or change the port. So sad that you said that you «have no use for Apex...» ».  :(

    What gateway do you use for Apex? What is the EPG, OSH or the listener of the Apex? If you use the EPG, there is an order any structure/API for it. Here are a couple that you can run a SQLPlus session:

    SELECT DBMS_XDB.GETHTTPPORT FROM DUAL;

    EXEC DBMS_XDB.SETHTTPPORT(port);
    For example:

    EXEC DBMS_XDB.SETHTTPPORT(8080);

    OR

    EXEC DBMS_XDB.SETHTTPPORT(8181);

    If you use OSH then you go to your OHS/Apache Directory and find the path to the OPM and issue commands to start where your stop. If it's the listener of the Apex with Glassfish, then you go to the console of administration of Glassfish and stop your deployment of Apex from there. I'll leave you the specifications.

  • Are there problems in the creation of a virtual machine in VMware Workstation or Server and then move it to ESXi?

    Hello

    I intend to pass our mailserver's current installation of Windows Server 2003 running on native hardware in a Windows Server 2008 running in a virtual machine on ESXi.

    This is the same machine as we will reuse so I would prefer to be able to create the virtual machine on a different computer and test it before wiping Windows and install ESXi. Are there problems with the creation of the virtual machine in VMware Server and then migrate to ESXi using VMware Converter? I won't if the result is not a 'perfect' virtual machine that performs as well as if it had been created on ESXi from the beginning.

    All our other VMs were created on ESXi from the beginning.

    Kind regards

    René Frej Nielsen

    If you are not sure, you can load VMware Server 2 and then install ESXi in it and test your configuration.  Do all this from your desktop (as it is decent).  You can also do in my computer.  A quick google search should give you all the information you need to get something like this configuration.

  • Is it possible to run vCenter Server and AUVS in the same database?

    Hello. My client has vCenter Server and VUM installed and running in the same database. Yes, the same database (not only same server database) and the same ODBC (ODBC VUM is 32-bit only).

    My question is whether it is supported or not and I would like a source VMware information, not only "it works fine for me".

    I can't find any definitive info on this VMware. Only something to wave in the installation and upgrade guides about or not to run in the same database ' ' (I guess they mean 'server') and it seems that the recommendation is to separate them for the 'large environments,' whatever that means.

    The environment vSphere 4.1 is currently, and there are about 20 guests and 150 virtual machines.

    If it is not supported, I guess the best way to go is to reinstall both from scratch?

    Thanks in advance!

    / Anders

    Yes, it is a supported configuration.  Since VUM and vCenter using different tables, you can share the same DB

    The database of the update manager that you use can be identical to the vCenter Server database. You can also use a
    separate database, or you can use existing database clusters. For best results in a large scale environment, you
    must use a dedicated Update Manager database that is located on one computer other than the
    the vCenter Server system database.

  • Impossible to use VMWare Server and Virtual PC at the same time?

    I have a Win 7 box I use VirtualPC (unfortunately, VPN to the employer only supports the 32-bit Win XP).

    If I try to start any virtual machines using VMWare Server, power on and then immediately off.  Tried several different VMs.

    However, if I disable VirtualPC, they all work normally.

    Then... there at - it a known issue with the help of Virtual PC and VMWare Server at the same time?

    BTW, I didn't see this problem when you use Virtual PC and VMWare Player at the same time.

    VirtualPC leaves the CPU of the exploitation of VMX root, which is a restricted mode.  VMware Server is problems to switch between legacy mode and long (this switch is prohibited when the CPU is in VMX root operation).  The current versions of the workstation and the player are able to circumvent this restriction.
