Nikon d5100 video won't import in Windows Photo Gallery

I've recently upgraded to a Nikon D5100 to the D5000.  I had no problem at all to import photos and videos from the D5000.  However, only the photos import to Windows Photo Gallery... and the videos are not!  I've tried everything I can think of and nothing will work.  Windows Photo Gallery is not compatible with this device?  Are the videos of the D5100, another type of file than the D5000?  Help!   Thank you! ;)

Thank you.  So, I understand that the video is in a different format.  Is it possible to change this on the camera?  I tried to download a program of online conversion, but it is very confusing and I'm getting nowhere.  I liked my D5000 and I'm so darn frustrated with my D5100 at this stage.  I just want to be able to download the video so that I can use it.  Ugh!   What do you recommend I do?  I need to convert all the videos so I can use it... and you know a good conversion site?

I don't have any experience with these cameras, but perhaps the
more info would help you find a solution that works for you.

Yes, the video format is different. You could check the owner
Manual, but I don't think that the camera has an option for export
the video in a different format.

    Hello martinw56,

Thank you for using the Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

Sorry, you have a problem with that!  Have you tried the steps below with respect to the scanning of a picture with Windows Photo Gallery?  Do you have in the past been able to scan pictures with your current scanner and upload pictures to the photo gallery?

Please let us know status.  Thank you!

    Scan a picture
    http://windowshelp.Microsoft.com/Windows/en-us/help/66c76a19-97e7-492d-b3bf-a9c574c81f521033.mspx#ex

Before you begin, make sure that you have installed the scanner to the computer and the scanner is powered.

    1.

Windows Photo Gallery by clicking on the button Start , allprograms, and then clicking Windows Photo Gallery.

    2.

Click fileand then click import from device scanner or photo.

    3.

In the window import pictures and videos , click the scanner that you want to use, and then click import.

    4.

In the new scan dialog box, click the list of profiles , and then click the picture. The default settings to scan an image appear automatically.

    5.

If you're using a scanner with a document feeder, click the paper size list, and then click the size of the image that you have placed on the scanner or click on the size that is similar to the image.

    6.

Click the color format list, and then click the color format that you want the scanned file to display.

    7.

Click the type of file list, and then click the file type that you want to use to save the scanned file.

    8.

Click the list Resolution (DPI) , and then click the resolution, in dots per inch, that you want to use.

    9.

Adjust the settings for brightness and contrast, or type the values that you want to use.

    10.

To see how the image will appear when it is scanned, click Preview. If necessary, change the scan settings, and then preview the image again. Repeat these steps until you are satisfied with the results of the overview. Some scanners may require that place you the image in the charger whenever you are scanning.

    11.

Click on scan. When the scan is complete, Windows Photo Gallery invites you to mark the image so that it is easier to organize or find later.

    12.

In the list tag these pictures (optional) , type a tag name, and then click import. Windows Photo Gallery displays the picture, so you can view, difficulty or organize.

    Hi tb_pina,

I understand that you are unable to view the video in the Windows Photo Gallery.

    1. have you made changes on the computer recently?

    2. What is the file of the video file extension?

Start the computer in safe mode and check if that helps.

  • Parameters for importing Windows Photo Gallery is completed. (They simply disappeared!)

In the photo gallery Windows and Windows Live Photo Gallery the 'import' settings have disappeared. I can open the parameters dialog box and tab 'import' itself is still there but it is empty. There are no settings to change. I am still able to import, but I can't change where pictures import to or anything. The parameters are the same as the last time they were available before their disappearance.

Basically: I open the Windows Photo Gallery (Live) and everything works fine except for one thing. When I click on import one file - Options-, there is nothing in the importation of the settings box tab. (There are no settings to change. They are not there.) It is empty. Why is it empty? Updated photo gallery

On the Windows Photo Gallery, I get the following message: Photo Gallery can't open this photo or video.  This file format is not supported or you do not have the photo gallery was last updated.  I tried to download a site to print it and the download is finished, and then I got this message when I tried to open it.

    Hi kstormu812,

    Welcome to Microsoft answers forums!

I would like to know the following information to help focus in the right direction.

    a. don't you make changes to the computer before this problem?

    b. don't you make changes to the windows photo gallery settings?

    c. What is the exact error message and error code?

    d. you are able to see other images saved on the computer with no problems?

    e. What is the file format of the photos or videos?

If you have a third party photo editing software, try removing it and see if that will help.

Note: Please try this step only if you can recover the program.

Gallery Photo will show images with any of these file types:

    ·         BMP, JPEG, JFIF, TIFF, PNG, WDP

If Windows Movie Maker is installed, photo library will also play videos in these types of files:

    ·         ASF, AVI, MPEG, WMV.

If you view files, that are other than the files listed above, you will need to convert them to the format mentioned above.
